Domestic lignite production were reduced by 2.2 % from 181.9 mill, t in 2004 to 177.9 mill, t in 2005. 163.2 mill, t (about 92 %) of the output achieved in 2005, which corresponds to a calorific value of 54.9 mill, t coal units, were used in power stations for general supply. This figure was 2.5 % lower than in the previous year. Lignite contributed 25.0 % to the total electricity generated in Germany in 2005.
