... In previous Early Jurassic studies, the significance of the basinal or 'seaway' configuration of the Cook Formation has perhaps been ignored or downplayed. The Early Jurassic Seaway introduced shallow-marine waters into a region previously dominated by continental Triassic deposits and led to a connection between the Tethys Sea in the south and the Borealis Sea to the north during Sinemurian time (Gjelberg et al. 1987;Ziegler 1990;Doré et al. 1997).
