In the Orléans area, several archaeological diagnostics in the context of the Loire's old alluviums were carried out between 2012 and 2015, within the framework of the preventive archaeology activity and that of the working group "The Pléistocène of the Centre region: development of a chronostratigraphic framework". The old alluvial sequences corresponding to the terraces mapped Fv, Fw and Fx, revealed by the deep holes, were the subject of stratigraphic surveys including a fine macroscopic approach of the palaeopedological and sedimentary characteristics. Alluviums were also sampled and dated by Electronic Spin Resonance (ESR), seven results were obtained from three sites taken in Fx and Fw. This double approach, as well as the discovery of flint material on the site of Saint-Cyr-en-Val, made it possible to renew the knowledge of alluvial formations and to re-examine their chronological attributions. Thus, ESR datings allow us to propose an MIS 12 age (Elsterian) for Fw and MIS 7-8 one (Saalien) for Fx. If ESR dating contribute to a new geochronological framework, for Fw and Fx in particular, field surveys and observations also question the contribution of paleopaedology and the study of morphology and geometry of sedimentary units to the definition of reliable regional chronostratigraphic markers.

... For the Late Laborian we can quote the dominance of red deer at Peyrazet caverockshelter and La Borie del Rey (Langlais et al., 2014b). In Normandy, the aurochs is the principal game in Alizay, Eure (Bémilli et al., 2014) and in Loiret, site of Chevilly-Nant valley yielded some rests of fauna with horse (Verjux et al., 2013). Finally, it should also be pointed out that dogs are documented during the Early Laborian (Célérier and Delpech, 1978;Célérier et al., 1999;Chaix, 2000;Boudadi-Maligne et al., 2018, see below Table 1). ...

... Forests cover approximately 31 % of the department (210,000 ha) and are primarily divided into two large massifs: the national forest of Orléans, north of the Loire River, and the Sologne, south of the Loire River. The soils of Loiret show high spatial variability owing to the great diversity of lithology and derived parent materials (Horemans, 1962;Lacquement et al., 2015;Liard et al., 2017;Macaire, 1985;Martelet et al., 2013;Richer-de-Forges et al., 2008;Tissoux et al., 2017). The primary soils observed under forest vegetation are Arenosols, Fluvisols, Colluviosols, Luvisols, and Planosols; some Cambisols and Vertisols are also observed on clayey parent materials . ...
