... LLO (58 kDa) was the first identified virulence factor of L. monocytogenes (Harvey and Faber, 1941;Gaillard et al., 1986;Geoffroy et al., 1987;Cossart et al., 1989). The main function of the LLO is to participate in the lysis of the phagocytic vacuole and the release of L. monocytogenes into the host cytoplasm (Arnett et al., 2014) (Figure 1).
