In line with Pierce et al.'s (2001) perception of experienced PO as individuals' felt needs satisfaction, when academics' needs for a sense of capability and success in universities are met, they would feel more responsible for the effectiveness of their universities. To borrow Gouldner's (1960) argument, with their needs for being self-efficacious satisfied, academics would naturally be motivated to reciprocate the universities with extra work efforts (see also Blau, 1964). This sense of responsibility and desire to reciprocate would arouse academics' motivation for being proactive in, among initiating other work performance endeavors, teaching more creatively (i.e., using the legislative style) and investing more time and efforts into experimenting on new ways of teaching (i.e., using the liberal style). ...
