Seiring dengan mening-katnya penggunaan antidepresan untuk menangani depresi pada anak dan remaja, timbul kekhawatiran karena antidepresan ternyata meningkatkan risiko perilaku mau-pun ide bunuh diri, terutama pada kelom-pok pasien ini. 3,4

Addiction is a major health problem in Indonesia. The prevalence and pattern of drugs addiction shifted according to changes in personality, stressors, or increasing responsibility as people grow. Therefore, the personality traits and social economic factors involved in the benzodiazepine addiction are unique. In this study we evaluated the personality traits of patient with benzodiazepine addiction in Yogyakarta using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) 2 test. This study was a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional design. Subjects were 39 benzodiazepine addicts obtained from private psychiatrist practices in Yogyakarta. The instruments used were questionnaire for personal information and MMPI 2. Statistical analysis was conducted with SPSS ver. 17 and significance level was defined at p<0.05. MMPI 2 test revealed a low total mental capacity index and a low basic personality index (OCEAN: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism). The clinical profiles examination showed profile of somatic symptoms due to psychological disturbances, clinical symptoms of overt suspiciousness, overt negative emotionality, clinical symptoms of depression, symptoms of psychopathic behaviours (antisocial), emotional difficulty in interpersonal relationship, clinical symptoms related to overt emotion, and weird and bizarre psychological experiences. There are certain personality variables that may be important predictors for benzodiazepine addiction identified in this study.

Duration of untreated psychosis of first-episode psychotic disorders in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Introduction: Duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) is an important predictor for prognosis in first episode of psychotic disorders. Caregivers often seek help from alternative healers first and health professional later. [Show full abstract] the association between DUP, symptoms severity, and global functioning in patients with first-episode psychotic disorders. Methods: We identified 100 patients with first episode of psychotic disorders and their caregivers. The instruments used were Brief Psychotic Rating Scale (BPRS), Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Premorbid Schizoid-Schizotypal Traits (PSST), and Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF). Results: There were no significant association between BPRS, PANSS, PSST, and GAF scores and DUP in our subjects. Nevertheless, we found that men had significantly longer DUP compared to women. Conclusion: We found significant association between sex and DUP in this study. Longer DUP leads to delayed treatments and poorer prognosis. Further study is required to confirm our finding.

[Show full abstract] Cycloserine administration is frequently reported to be associated with psychiatric disorders. In this study, we examined the prevalence and characteristics of psychiatric disorders among MDR-TB patients in Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Methods: In this descriptive study, we studied medical records of MDR-TB patients admitted for MDR-TB treatments to Sardjito Hospital from January 2014 to July 2016 and screened for psychiatric disorders. Results: We found that 32.8% of the patients had psychiatric disorders, some of which had multiple psychiatric diagnoses (14.1%). The diagnoses were medication induced delirium, substance/medication induced psychotic disorder, substance/medication use depressive disorder, depressive type schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder current episode severe manic with psychotic features, mild depression, moderate depression, major depression without psychotic features, major depression with psychotic features, adjustment disorders with mixed anxiety and depressed mood, adjustment disorder with anxiety, acute stress disorder, and insomnia. Psychiatric disorders were significantly associated with cycloserine dose and sex. Psychotic symptoms were significantly associated with sex and level of education. Conclusion: The presence of psychiatric disorders might disturb MDR-TB treatment resulting in poor outcomes. Precaution and prompt managements are required for psychiatric disorders in patients receiving MDR-TB treatment regiments.
