Which organic solvent can solve KOH ?

I want to solve KOH in an organic solvent .Afterwars, I want to react it with the chloromethylated polysulfone in order to substitute the chloride group by the hydroxide group. So please I want a solvent that can solve them both ( a common solvent ) and what are the reaction conditions

The KOH not dissolved in DMF. But the color changed into yellow. Further adding KOH it turns dark yellow color. Is anyone tried to dissolve KOH in DMSO.

KOH disolves readily in methanol partially in ethanol so you can try using this as your solvent conditions or use something like a mix of methanol/chloroform or DMF (DMF should solubilize KOH) if your substrate wont disolve in the methanol alone

You may try Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) a known polar solvent that dissolves most organics and inorganic salts. It is also miscible with water in all proportions. CH3S(O)CH3; MW 78.089, density 1.096 g/mL, mp 19°C, bp 189°C hope this will be useful for you to optimize your reaction conditions

It dissolves effectively the KOH salt. However when I dissolve the chloromethylated polysulfone ( CMPsf ) in alcholos it didnt work , this why i asked about a common solvent to solve them both

Hi Issam,
if you have problems with getting the right solvent composition for your reaction, you may try phase transfer catalysis. I'm not deeply in that topic, but I know that there are substances which are able to perform with regards to your specific needs.
Alternatively, why not try ionic liquids? They probably dissolve both KOH and you sample compound. At least, there were some solutions available on Sigma-Aldrich with OH- as counterion so it should be possible (see link).

As a result, you're looking for a solvent that dissolves both polymer and KOH at the same time? I think DMSO is best for your system.
