Dear researchers and developers,
I have simulated a BAN network with 10 nodes using Castalia 3.2, I have used the MAC and radio module parameters to evaluate the performance of the studied network.
Now, I would like to know what are the acceptable packet loss rate and delay for medical applications in a BAN knowing that in some simulation cases we are forced to exceed the allowed SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) (1.6 w/kg) by increasing the transmission power to minimize packet loss rate. Our goal is to change the transmission powers to find the acceptable packet loss rate and delay for medical applications.
Can you help me know how to simulate working two performance evaluation metrics with Castalia? or Are there any articles in the literature that can inspire us?

I will a conceptual answer which may help you to find out the suitable communication performance parameters of your network.
You want to define the the so called quality of service which are:
The required maximum bit rate,
The bit error rate rather than the packet loss rate.
And the delay of the signal from the source and destination node.
The maximum bit rate depends on the signal to be transmitted.
The bit error rate for voice like signal must be better than 10^-4
The bit error rate for critical data applications must be better that 10^-6
The delay of packets depends on the application whether it is on line or off line communication.
So, you have to search for the quality of service for medical signals.
This review article may help you to get out the required performance parameters of your network.
If you want to improve the transmission parameters you can increase the signal bandwidth. Increasing the signal bandwidth will enable you to decrease your transmit power to the safe operating values. You can use the spread spectrum for this application or you can use forward error correction.

Hello researchers, Hello omnet ++ WBAN simulation teams,
I am a beginner with omnet ++, I work on the optimization of RFID systems used in wireless body area networks(WBAN) . I want to start a simple simulation and to design and implement a WBAN network using omnet ++. Can someone guide to start a simple simulation of a WBAN network with this simulator, specially I want to learn how to make a design of a one BAN or more than one BAN for many persons and to have a global idea about implementation and design of a wban network. (Knowing that I used Castalia 3.2 and omnet 4.5 but just for Banest simulation like in the manual of Castalia), know I want to carry out the simulation with design and implementation.
knowing that my goal is to achieve the following two scenarios:
1) monitoring the movement of a patient in a hospital or the movement of a person in any place
2) monitoring the vital signs of the patient or of a person in any location
Can you help me with useful information (omnet ++ version, framework : (which framework must be used INET, Mixim ?) I didn’n find tutorials in internet, I found just some videos on youtube and some websites with payments. I decide to contact some researchers because I didn’t found nothing.
what do you recommend dear researchers?

I wanted to know how to construct a WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) environnement with sensors and Gateway and Base station ?

I am a beginner with omnet, Mixim and Castalia, I work on RFID systems used in wireless body area networks(WBAN).I want to start a simple simulation and to design a WBAN network using omnet 4.5 and Castalia 3.2 or Mixim. Do you have any idea how to start a simple simulation of a WBAN network with this simulator. In addition, I want to know how to design WBAN network components with castalia.
can I do WBAN network design with Castalia? because I read a small part of CASTALIA's Manual I noticed that all commands are done on the omnet command prompt. how to construct a WBAN environnement with sensors and Gateway and Base station using Castalia ? i.e. how to work directly on Castalia to realize these components, is there a tutorial?
I want to test two scenarios, the first is monitoring human body movement, the second is monitoring a person's vital signs.
Can you help me with useful information or if you have examples of projects done before or tutorials. I need help.

I'm working on Castalia framework in order to enhance the adaptive routing protocol in WBAN network; the reference is Adaptive Routing Protocol for wireless Body Area Networks with Heterogeneous Nodes paper, Sijjad Ali khuhro, Zeeshan Haider, Kashan Memon.
I seek to built a routing protocol depending on ant colony algorithm.

In fact, on different problems, you need to use different algorithms to get the best results. So in your issues, you should try to increase the accuracy of your algorithm to improve the performance of your method. You have to optimize different parameters depending on different issues to achieve this goal.

where x is the input signals, Φ is the sensing matrix and y is the compressed vector. α is a sparse vector,and Ψ is a sparse basis.
* In case of DCT-based compressed sensing,Ψ is the DCT basis.
* For wireless body area network, I think it is not practical to apply the DCT transform of the signal X at the sensor node , right ?

Dear Rahul,
I think the sizing of the network depends much on its application. How the sensors are distributed in a specific area will determine the number of nodes and the distance between the nodes. In addition the function of every sensor node will set the data produced in a specific time and so its traffic. The power and the bandwidth and the sensitivity of the receiver is dictated by the internode distance and the data rate. The processing power required in every node is determined by the signal processing required in every node. However there are number of generic wireless sensor networks that can be used as a reference for the parameters. On the other side there are data published about practical networks.
You can survey them to get the range of these parameters.

using matlab/simulink, or you can even find the the model or the code. You need only to to it the channel model.

It depends on what is the subject that you will focus on, it is the information sensing, the information transmission or both, or the embeded systems of WBANs ?
I work on WBAN and e-healthcare in the context of Internet of Things, you can see in my articles.
For simulation, if you will work in the context of IoT, i suggest Cooja simulator of Contiki OS

                  IF you are familiar with OMNET++ then there is a module "Castalia" which integrates with OMENT++ and provide support in terms of protocols for WBAN plus there are example scenarios of BAN. You can modify to create attack scenarios such as sinkhole. You may look at my following paper (full text available on RG ) where we have use Castalia.

Hi,
Look, there is no such simulator available which is directly focused on WBAN and to medical data. However, you can demonstrate in virtual environment of any simulator like NS2 or OMNET++ which assumes other network architecture as WBAN. Moreover, you can select any programming languages that are supported by sensors and simulate on available device emulators like J2ME, .NET, etc. 
You can also use senseNUTs that are real sensors which support C programming and can be modified as per requirement. You can use them also for real time practice.

To calculate the number of relay nodes in WBSN, we need to know that:
- Distance between bio-sensor(s) and sink (k)
- path loss coefficient (LOS=3.38 , NLOS=5.9)
No. of relays=summation ((distance from sensors to k/ distance field for LOS)-1)

There are different types for the distribution such as exponential, Lattice, Normal , uniform and power law. I have two parameters, the first parameter is   number of patients ( some patients moving and another static) and second parameter is time ( may change t1,t2,...so on). How can do distribute the number of patients with time ? which is better method for distribution?

very interesitng question. Well i think it would be very difficult to put a probabilistic approach on the distribution of patient numbers and time. only poisson distribution could be used fro the intake and outake of patient. Main distributions can be put on the time and node failures

Energy is most important factor for Wireless sensor networks. A node is connected to the base station through a singlehop or a multihop. Here sleeping and wake-up schemes of different nodes are very important to achieve energy efficiency of the system. A protocol is used for communication between the nodes. In fact throughput is the measurement of number of bits received per second and it is measured in kbps/mbps where as the ratio of number packets received to number of packets transmitted is called packet delivery ratio which is measured in %.
