I am performing a bond test of concrete with metals. Most of the literature reviews that I have looked so far refer to the ASTM C234-91-a. This standard was withdrawn in 2000. However, many research papers and journals, even after 2000, are following the methods in C234. I am looking for ASTM C234 or any other suggestions for standards for doing a pull out / push out test of metals on concrete.
Thank You,

Question

Hello,
I need to use guanidium chloride to denature a protein. However, I’m reluctant because it is absolutely crucial for my experiment that no isocyanic acid is formed. I need to know the equilibrium constants of the reactions where guanidium chloride in solution forms urea which then forms isocyanic acid to see if the isocyanic acid formed is negligible or not. If not negligible, I also need to know the thermodynamics of the reaction (if it occurs very slowly, then it should be okay).
I tried looking it up but I couldn’t find it. Is there a website or an equation that can be used to find eq constants?
Thanks for your time.

Pyrolysis of urea and guanidinium salts to be used as ammonia precursors for selective catalytic reduction of NOx
Author links open overlay panel
, , ,
Abstract
In this work, the thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) of urea, ammonium carbamate, and guanidinium acetate, carbonate and chloride was performed, using thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis coupled to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (TGA/DTA–GC/MS, from 25 to 500 °C). Solid products from pyrolysis were characterized with infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Triazines and heptazines were found as solid products of pyrolysis for the tested solids. Crystallite sizes were assessed using the Scherrer equation; it was found that guanidinium acetate and guanidinium chloride had the biggest crystallites of all solids analyzed (maximums of 113 and 109 nm for guanidinium acetate and guanidinium chloride, respectively) up to 350 °C. These compounds also showed the highest decomposition temperatures, with thermal decomposition starting at 246 °C for guanidinium acetate and 300 °C for guanidinium chloride. This results show the composition of the solid and gaseous products for guanidinium acetate, carbonate and chloride, along with identification of ammonia production of guanidinium salts, which offer an important comparative with the thermal decomposition of well-known ammonia precursor compounds like urea and ammonium carbamate.
Introduction
Controls in nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are environmental pollutants, have become tighter in the last years; this has increased the need for better pollutant controls in lean emissions, typically present in diesel powered motors. There are many processes [1] for achieving low NOx concentrations in exhaust gas, one of these being the selective catalytic reduction (SCR). In this process, nitrogen oxides react with a reductant which can be ammonia or hydrocarbons. The precise reaction mechanism followed by the system depends on the relationship between NO and NO2, with at least three reactions possible, being:
When NO accounts for at least 90% in the exhaust, reaction 1, named “Standard SCR”, is present [2], [3]. For Reaction (2) to occur, a slight majority in the NO2 concentration must exist, higher than 50% in the exhaust. Reaction (3) occurs when NO and NO2 concentrations are equal. The latter reaction is also called “Fast-SCR” reaction [4].
Hydrocarbon-SCR presents several disadvantages when implementing it in a commercial scale, the most important being an increase in fuel usage. Ammonia-SCR avoids this problem, by using an NH3 precursor compound, typically an aqueous solution of 32.5% urea in water, known commercially as AdBlue®, which has the advantages of low toxicity and easy transportation, compared to gaseous pure ammonia [5]. However, there are important disadvantages of the solution, such as a moderately high 261 K freezing point, the possibility of having solid formation in the exhaust line, and difficulties in dosing at exhaust temperatures below 473 K. These drawbacks have motivated several researchers to study alternative ammonia-promoting compounds [6].
Some of the recently investigated alternatives have been liquid solutions of different compounds, such as ammonium formate [7], methanamide [8], formamyde [9] and guanidinium formate [10]. However, solid alternatives like ammonium carbamate [11] and amminated inorganic salts [12] have been studied due to their potential increase in performance compared with liquid alternatives. Solid urea and ammonium carbamate are well known and the thermal decomposition has been studied in the past with many detailed mechanisms available [13], [14], [15], [16], [1
he ammonia solid precursors used were urea (CH4N2O, 99.0–100.5%, Sigma–Aldrich, St. Louis, USA), ammonium carbamate (CH6N2O2, > 99.5%, Sigma–Aldrich, St. Louis, USA), guanidinium acetate (C3H9N3O2, 99%, Sigma–Aldrich, St. Louis, USA), guanidinium carbonate (C3H12N6O3, 99%, Sigma–Aldrich, St. Louis, USA) and guanidinium chloride (CH6N3Cl, > 99%, Sigma–Aldrich, St. Louis, USA). There was no pre-treatment protocol used, thus materials were used “as-received”.

Hello,
I am trying to set up my own website which will allow users to log in and open 2 seperate doors on my property. I have already made a website with the log in form and there is a system installed in de doorlatch that will open it when it recieves power. Now the thing I need is a device that can take commands from my website (Through wifi or something like that), that when ordered will send around 24v of power to the doorlatch. I have tried to find things only and also looked at things like arduino, but nothing would seem to work with my own website. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
Relevant answer
Answer
Why can't you google and use one of the ready made smart home solutions?
If your door has a lock with a code, you could just post the code on the website? Such a lock runs on batteries, i think? And some code locks are like the ones on bicycle locks, they require no electricity. And the code can be altered. Some airbnbs use a small box with a code lock, in which a normal key is placed. Whan you order, the code for the key box is emailed to or sent by sms, or posted in an automated airbnb message.
If the door is triggered by power, the same remote device that let's you turn on a light, could be placed between the lock and the power supply. Just like with a lamp. The fact that what you wish to open is a door is not important. Since you have chosen this solution, I assume that we are talking about some sort of gate for a car door or an entrance?

What do you think?
And what can anyone add useful advices to get into this point?
Relevant answer
Answer
All your suggestions relate to SEO for normal webpages, but articles are placed in portals or journals that feed into google scholar etc? You cannot use these SEO techniques on the adacemic journal website? The best thing is probably to use academic social media groups and place links to your article there. Linkedin, facebook maybe reddit. H-net etc. But you are not maximing your visitor numbers, you must target academics in your field without violating marketing laws. So you must NOT spam target everyone, but only those most likely to give you what you want, a citation.

But I don't know why people are interested in this research as companies already have better security features. And nowadays it's very hard to find such attacks. It was popular 15 years ago when everything was between a web server and internet. Even if u do some research work in this, it is not going to be very novel. It doesn't matter if a paper regarding this gets published in a reputed journal. No business is going to implement that article whether it is Scopus indexed with 9 impact factor or not. A research by Prof. Juan De Vicente (CIEMAT, Madrid), author of dozens of publications in the field of astrophysics, was recently published (May 23), which demonstrates, in the opinion of the author, that the universe is not expanding and that the observed cosmological redshift must therefore be attributed to some other physical cause. For example, the decrease in the speed of light over time.
If Prof. De Vicente's research were confirmed, it would put an end to the Big Bang model that the recent observations of the JWST are strongly questioning.
I, not being an expert in astrophysics or statistics, am unable to understand the article in which De Vicente explains the methods and results of his research.
This is the link of the article:
Prof. De Vicente's research is based on the analysis of public data, published on the website:
therefore it is perfectly reproducible.
Is anyone interested in checking De Vicente's research and confirming/denying these results?
It goes without saying that if these data passed the examination of careful criticism they would represent a revolutionary result that would change the history of astronomy forever.
In the event that someone is about to do this check, could he explain exactly the steps taken (possibly limiting to a few dozen galaxies in order to make the method adopted clear) so that this check can also be performed by non-experts?
Relevant answer
Answer
So objects (planets) revolving around a star are not, according to the standard ΛCDM model, subject to cosmic expansion, as they are gravitationally bound.
Objects (stars) gravitating around the nucleus of a galaxy (stars) are not subject to cosmic expansion as they are gravitationally bound.
Objects (galaxies) rotating around the nucleus of a cluster are not subject to cosmic expansion as they are gravitationally bound. In fact, if the redshift of any galaxy belonging to a given cluster is measured, the same redshift is always found.
According to the ΛCDM standard model the only objects subject to cosmic expansion are clusters.
But what prevents us from thinking that clusters also revolve around the nucleus of a supercluster?
For example, our Galaxy rotates around the nucleus of our Local Cluster (or Local Group), which rotates around the nucleus of a super-cluster called Laniakea extended for 160 Mpc.
If this is true then all clusters of the Laniakea supercluster should not be subject to cosmic expansion since they are gravitationally bound.
Then the redshifts that are measured for the Laniakea clusters are not due to cosmic expansion, but some other cause.
What is wrong with this reasoning?

Answer
Greetings Melody,
I would use an environment manager, such as Anaconda (which runs the open-source Conda engine under the hood). Unlike closed-source software computer languages (e.g., MATLAB), Python is maintained primarily by the community. That means that all of the language's packages/libraries/dependencies are constantly changing and being updated and, therefore, not always compatible with each other. Python environment managers make sure that all packages can operate with each other.
So, I suggest downloading Anaconda, installing it, and opening the Anaconda Navigator application. It will open in the "base" environment. Press the "Environment" tab on the left and then press the "Create" button from the bottom (it is recommended to create a new environment and not use the "base" environment for coding). You will be prompted to choose the version of Python that the environment will use and to give the environment a name. I suggest choosing the latest version (3.11). Anaconda will now create a new environment.
Go back to the "Home" tab. Make sure that the new environment's name is selected on the dropdown menu from the top next to "on". You will see several icons of popular Python data analysis packages. Among them, you will see "Jupyter Lab". Press "Install". Anaconda will install all the required dependencies. After that, you can press "Launch" next to Jupyter Lab's icon and it will launch on you browser.
Enjoy,
Eli

Could anybody explain me the meaning of the data point “number of atoms” that is shown for any material on the material project website? I thought that it was supossed to tell the number of atoms per unit cell, but, in many cases, it doesn’t make any sense to me. For instance, TaC (https://next-gen.materialsproject.org/materials/mp-1086: (Cubic, Fm-3m, 225)) exihibits a fcc crystal structure and, thus, should feature 4 atoms per unit cell. However, “number of atoms” on the website says that it’s 8.

I have the text of a biomedical document and I have extracted the biomedical terms, now I want to create a connected graph that connects all the terms, I am using the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) but I haven't found in their website how from a list of biomedical terminology concepts (cuis) can we generate a graph , Any help please ??
Relevant answer
Answer
Here is python program and steps.
Python program that demonstrates how to create a connected graph using UMLS data:
```python
import networkx as nx
import xml.etree.ElementTree as ET
def create_umls_graph(file_path):
# Create an empty graph
graph = nx.Graph()
# Parse the UMLS XML file
tree = ET.parse(file_path)
root = tree.getroot()
# Iterate over UMLS concepts
for concept in root.findall(".//Concept"):
cui = concept.attrib['CUI']
name = concept.find(".//Name").text
# Add the concept as a node in the graph
graph.add_node(cui, name=name)
# Add relationships as edges in the graph
relationships = concept.findall(".//SemanticType")
for relation in relationships:
rel_cui = relation.attrib['CUI']
rel_name = relation.find(".//Name").text
# Add the relationship as an edge in the graph
graph.add_edge(cui, rel_cui, relationship=rel_name)
return graph
# Example usage
umls_file_path = 'path/to/umls.xml'
umls_graph = create_umls_graph(umls_file_path)
# Print the number of nodes and edges in the graph
print("Number of nodes:", umls_graph.number_of_nodes())
print("Number of edges:", umls_graph.number_of_edges())
```
We use the `networkx` library to create and manipulate the graph. We parse the UMLS XML file using the `xml.etree.ElementTree` module and iterate over the concepts to extract necessary information such as CUI (Concept Unique Identifier), concept name, and relationships. We add each concept as a node in the graph and the relationships as edges connecting the nodes.
STEPS:
UMLS is a vast repository of biomedical and clinical concepts that can be used to create connected graphs representing relationships between medical terms. Here's a general approach to creating a connected graph using UMLS:
1. Obtain UMLS Data: Access the UMLS database or download the necessary UMLS files from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) website. UMLS provides various files, including the Metathesaurus, Semantic Network, and SPECIALIST Lexicon, which contain the necessary information for building the graph.
2. Choose the Scope: Determine the scope of your graph. UMLS includes a wide range of biomedical concepts, such as diseases, drugs, anatomy, procedures, and more. Define the specific domain or subset of concepts you want to focus on in your graph.
3. Define the Graph Structure: Decide on the structure of your graph. You can choose different graph representations, such as a directed graph or an undirected graph, depending on the relationships you want to represent. For example, you may represent relationships between concepts as edges and the concepts themselves as nodes.
4. Extract Relevant Information: Extract the relevant information from the UMLS files to populate your graph. The Metathesaurus provides concept identifiers (CUIs), names, relationships, and other attributes for various concepts. The Semantic Network offers information about semantic types and relationships between them.
5. Build the Graph: Use the extracted information to build the connected graph. Each concept can be represented as a node, and the relationships between concepts can be represented as edges. Connect the nodes based on the relationships defined in the UMLS data.
6. Enhance the Graph: Depending on your requirements, you can enhance the graph by incorporating additional information, such as concept properties, synonyms, or hierarchical relationships. This can provide more context and depth to the graph.
7. Visualization and Analysis: Visualize the connected graph using graph visualization libraries or tools. You can explore the graph structure, identify clusters or communities, analyze connectivity patterns, and perform various graph analysis techniques to gain insights from the data.
UMLS data is subject to licensing and usage restrictions. Ensure that you comply with the UMLS usage agreements and license terms when working with UMLS data.

I conducted an online survey for my research and the initial invitation to participants through email were 290. However, the survey link was also distributed through website and other means of social media (Whatsapp, snowballing, etc).
The total responses was almost double from the initial number of target participants, although the completed responses to be analysed are almost 60% from the target number.
How do I justify the response rate? Or should I analyse the completed responses with meaningful answers and ignore the response rate?
Relevant answer
Answer
Nonresponse may bias results because the subpopulation of respondents may be quite different from the population in general. Substituting new respondents for nonrespondents can just make this worse. In addition, your different sources may also represent different populations. You might compare respondent results for different sources to see if there are big differences there.
For nonresponse, you could weight according to response "propensity," though that may be difficult.
In general, you cannot solve a nonresponse problem by taking other data unless you know there are similar characteristics between the member of the population nonresponding, and the member whose response is substituted, and this is still risky and should not be overused. However, I think such methods as "hot deck" might still be used. But that is not what you are doing.
Best wishes.

I know many websites have simple tools like transcription and translation available, but are there any analysis tools that researchers need that either do not exist or are not publicly available? It could be anything from algorithms to visuals. Thanks!
Relevant answer
Answer
Abhijeet Singh Thank you for your response and mentioning my earlier post! My belief is that researchers would know tools that are missing based on the fact that they would run into such problem often during their research. If there is some manual analysis task that researchers can automate, I believe that PeptiCloud can be the perfect platform to develop and make those tools publicly available. (For instance, PeptiCloud has a unique feature that allows users to further alter codon sequence of each amino acid after codon optimization with respect to a specific bacterial strain). With that being said, if you could check out PeptiCloud for yourself and see if anything could be added or improved, that would be greatly appreciated!

My sister is an architect and needs to use linear interpolation in the following situation:
The NCC states the maximum ramp length for a 1:14 ramp is 9 meters and a 1:20 ramp is 15 meters before you need a landing. The NCC states to calculate the maximum length of a ramp in between these gradients is to use linear interpolation.
She wants to specify a ramp of a 1:16.6 gradient and needs to calculate the maximum ramp length before needing a landing using the two values provided above. She is not confident her calculations are correct - she found the formula below but struggled to use it. So instead, she found this website - https://www.easycalculation.com/analytical/linear-interpolation.php. The solution that website provided was 11.6 meters. Can anyone confirm that this is correct and/or explain how to correctly calculate the linear interpolation for this example using the formula? Thanks in advance.
Linear interpolation = y1 + (x - x1)*(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
Relevant answer
Answer
Let's calculate the maximum ramp length for a 1:16.6 gradient using linear interpolation based on the two values provided: 1:14 (9 meters) and 1:20 (15 meters) before needing a landing.
First, let's assign the values:
x1 = 14 (corresponding to 1:14 gradient)
y1 = 9 meters (maximum ramp length for 1:14 gradient)
x2 = 20 (corresponding to 1:20 gradient)
y2 = 15 meters (maximum ramp length for 1:20 gradient)
x = 16.6 (corresponding to 1:16.6 gradient)
Now, we can use the linear interpolation formula:
Linear interpolation = y1 + (x - x1)*(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
Substitute the values:
Linear interpolation = 9 + (16.6 - 14)(15-9)/(20-14)
Linear interpolation = 9 + 2.66/6
Linear interpolation = 9 + 2.6
Linear interpolation = 11.6 meters
So, according to the formula, the maximum ramp length for a 1:16.6 gradient before needing a landing is 11.6 meters. The website you mentioned provided the correct result. Linear interpolation is a useful method for estimating values between two known data points, and it's commonly used in various fields, including architecture and engineering.

I am doing absolute quantification RT-qPCR for the beta actin gene. I start with RNA, turn this into cDNA and use that for qPCR. I am going to get a custom oligo of the PCR amplification product to use for making the standard required for absolute quantification.
This is how I got the sequence for the custom oligo. First, I input my primers into this website: http://www.bioinformatics.org/sms2/pcr_products.html along with the mRNA sequence for beta actin. The website gave me the amplified product, which is 61 bp as expected.
My question is should I use this result sequence as my oligo, or should I reverse complement it? I am wondering this because I input the mRNA sequence into the website to get the amplicon, but I am using cDNA which would be the complementary sequence. Please let me know. Thank you

Hi,
I purchased collagen IV powder from Sigma and the website says to dissolve in acetic acid, PBS or water. As I didn't have acetic acid I tried to dissolve it to 1mg/mL in PBS but the collagen has aggregated. Should I let it dissolve at room temperature or in the fridge? Is it still efficient?
Thank you for your help
Relevant answer
Answer
Collagen IV, like many proteins, can be tricky to dissolve and may require some special handling to go into solution. Although it can be dissolved in various solvents, acetic acid is often preferred because the mild acid helps to protonate the collagen, disrupting its structure and aiding in solubility. That being said, you can also use PBS, but it might take a bit more work.
When dissolving the collagen, avoiding vigorous stirring or high temperatures is important, as these can denature the protein and make it less effective for cell culture. Try these steps:
  1. Slowly add PBS to the collagen powder while gently mixing. Avoid adding all the solvent at once, as this can form clumps that are difficult to dissolve.
  2. Leave the mixture at room temperature for a few hours. This allows the collagen time to hydrate and go into the solution gradually.
  3. If the collagen still isn't fully dissolved after a few hours, you can put it in the refrigerator (4°C) overnight. This slows down the rate of denaturation, giving the collagen more time to dissolve without becoming denatured.
Remember to sterilize your solution before use. You can do this by passing the solution through a 0.2µm filter.
If your collagen still won't go into solution, it's possible that the collagen has become denatured or is otherwise damaged. You might need to purchase a new batch if you suspect this is the case.
Finally, remember that the effectiveness of collagen coatings can vary depending on the specific needs of your cells. While a coating of 1mg/mL collagen might work well for some cell types, others may require a higher or lower concentration, or a different type of coating entirely. You might need to experiment to find what works best for your specific application.

During my search on various Chinese universities and research websites, I noticed that my published articles, both in English and Chinese, as well as my master's and doctoral dissertations, are frequently cited in scientific conference papers in China, articles published in Chinese scientific journals, and numerous master's and doctoral dissertations, both within and outside of China. However, none of these citations are reflected in my profiles on ResearchGate, Google Scholar, or Web of Science. One possible reason for this discrepancy could be that most of these articles and theses have not been uploaded to ResearchGate, or it could be due to the language barrier of the content. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have to address this issue and improve the link between my profile and research databases encompassing different languages.
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, there are several ways you can enhance the connection between your citations and your researcher's profile on platforms like ResearchGate, Google Scholar, or Web of Science. Here are a few suggestions:
Create and maintain a comprehensive profile: Make sure your researcher's profile on these platforms is up-to-date and includes all of your publications. This will make it easier for others to find and cite your work.
Claim your publications: If your articles and theses have not been uploaded to ResearchGate or other platforms, be sure to upload them yourself. This will help ensure that your work is associated with your researcher's profile and increase its visibility to others.
Use consistent author names: Make sure that all of your publications are attributed to the same author name. This will help avoid confusion and ensure that all citations are associated with your researcher's profile.
Provide translations: If your publications are in a language other than English, consider providing translations of the titles and abstracts. This will help make your work more accessible to a wider audience and increase its visibility.
Network with other researchers: Engage with other researchers in your field, both online and in-person. This will help you build relationships and increase the likelihood of your work being cited by others.
By following these suggestions, you can enhance the connection between your citations and your researcher's profile on various platforms, and increase the visibility of your work.

Hello everyone
I am a master's business management from Sapienza University. I want to make a new proposal for applying Ph.D. in field management. I am thinking that traditional training ( teacher speaking) is not completely practical and most students cannot enhance their skills through courses at university because of that when they will graduate they will understand their knowledge is not related to what they learned. That's why nowadays, students are finding out e-learning and online courses are practical ways to increase their knowledge like the Coursera website in the field of their interest. Now I want to make a proposal for a Ph.D. that there is a gap between in level of courses at universities and learning by digital learning technology. if someone can give me some advice on how can I make a relationship with them in the field of management, I will really appreciate it.
Relevant answer
Answer
It's great that you're looking to propose a PhD project that addresses the gap between traditional classroom teaching and digital learning technologies. You may want to consider the following steps:
Conduct a literature review: Look for existing research related to the effectiveness of digital learning technologies in the field of management. Identify the gaps in existing research that you believe your PhD project can address.
Define your research question: Based on your literature review, define a clear research question that addresses the gap you have identified.
Develop your proposal: In your proposal, explain your research question and why it is important. Provide a detailed methodology for how you plan to address your research question, including the types of data you plan to collect and analyze. Also, explain how your research will contribute to the field of management.
Identify potential supervisors: Reach out to faculty members at your university who specialize in the field of management and may be interested in supervising your research. Send them your proposal and ask if they would be willing to meet with you to discuss your ideas.
Refine your proposal: Based on feedback from potential supervisors, refine your proposal and ensure that it meets the standards and expectations of your university's PhD program.
Remember, your proposal should be well-researched, innovative, and feasible within the timeframe of a PhD program. With careful planning and dedication, you can develop a proposal that will make a valuable contribution to the field of management. Good luck!

I am currently in need of wind data (wind speed and wind direction: possibly every hour) for Malaysia. Unfortunately, the data from the National Department are due to payment and it is expensive when I am interested in acquiring a data worth of 33 years.
Are there any website or database that is providing wind data for free of charge and also for a long duration like 33 years?

Hi Mr Ramesh,
I come accross this question because I am in need with data as well. I am interested with the answers which I could not read here. If possible, could you share the answer with me? Thank you very much
