I am conducting an experiment on comparative gene expression in yeasts using the real-time qPCR method. However, I am experiencing amplification in all my negative controls.
I use MilliQ water, have changed my plate and adhesive setup, work with micropipettes dedicated exclusively to qPCR, wear gloves, and perform my work in a cabinet where I turn on UV light for a few minutes before starting.
Does anyone have any tips on where this contamination might be coming from or how to resolve it?
Hello,
I'm planning a shell exchanging experiment with two marine, hermit crab species inside of a tank. I only have one tank available for this experiment. I plan on running 30-40 shell exchanging trials, each trial lasting 48 hours. During each trial, I will place 2 individual hermit crabs, one of each species, inside a tank with a single empty shell. Note, both hermit crabs will be wearing damaged shells. The objective of this experiment is to see if one of the species exhibits a higher frequency of taking the empty whole shell than the other, which we would interpret as one species being more dominant. The idea is that each trial will be conducted with new individuals and new shells.
My questions are, is the Chi-Square test the appropriate statistic for this hypothesis? Lastly, if it is, could someone give me an example of what the contingency table/matrix would like for the analysis?
Many thanks,
Miguel
Happy to announce a special issue in the Coatings journal, edited by myself, has gone live and accepts submissions as of today 27th of September and until the 9th of June. Feel free to drop me a message if you are interested in publishing your work in this SI.
Contributions to this Special Issue should address the broad spectrum of techniques, from traditional surface characterization methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), to cutting-edge approaches such as deep learning-assisted analysis, in situ monitoring systems, and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, such as optical and ultrasonic-based methods. Contributions should also explore the application of emerging technologies that have the potential to transform the early evaluation of surface damage, such as 3D imaging and IoT sensing.
The aim of this Special Issue is to advance our understanding of degradation mechanisms via the enhancement of tools available for monitoring and characterization, leading to more efficient maintenance strategies, and contributing to the more reliable monitoring of engineering structures. We hope that contributions to this Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and practitioners working in fields that are affected by material wear, corrosion, and erosion.
Hallo. I have a question. So I need it to find wear dept using the Archard law formula H = KPS. Where K is the coefficient, P is the contact pressure, and S is the sliding distance. I am still having trouble finding the sliding distance value in ABAQUS CAE. Where can I get the sliding distance value in abaqus?
What is the method for analytically calculating the wear and service life of polymer-polymer sliding pairs?
Using FGMs in the production of gears offers significant advantages in terms of wear resistance, thermal properties, mechanical performance, stress distribution, corrosion resistance, design flexibility, and long-term cost efficiency. These benefits make FGMs an attractive choice for high-performance and specialized gear applications where traditional materials may fall short. The ability to customize material properties precisely where needed allows for the development of gears that can withstand extreme conditions and deliver superior performance over their operational life.

I am confused regarding protection of virus by wearing mask. The mask which is hurdle of inhaling of oxygen also. how we protect our selves from virus ?
I'm rewriting some PPE standards for an underground mine. Typically workers wear 'muckers', or reinforced pull on rubber boots underground. The use of the boots extends to surface activities due to high rain / snowfall. To confound the issue, the mine is a lead mine and we require boot covers or removal of boots for entry into no operational areas (prevent contamination). Logically pull on boots would make this transition easier, however I cannot find any evidence that they provide adequate ankle support and stability - our site is remote, on the side of a hill and the underground work surface is frequently littered with 'ankle breakers' or small rocks. I can find research on comfort and ergonomics, but no evidence based recommendations for one over the other related to ankle stability or injury.
Hello,
Are there any public sample datasets of sensors' data measuring CNC machine parameters on a shop floor? I am looking for basic parameters such as vibration, temperature, humidity, tool wear, etc... to train a simple ML model.
Appreciate your help.

I am working for a startup company that makes microfluidic molds and I was wondering if Trichloro(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl)silane eventually wears off after a certain number of molds using PDMS? I was under the impression that it lasted forever but we are currently making over 50 molds a week on our wafers so I figured I would ask.

Dear Colleagues
I'm writing a single case paper on the metaverse initiative in wearing clothes in social media for a managerial journal. Here are the title and abstract. What do you think? Any comments?
Metaverse interventions in wearing clothes in social media: Transferring solutions from physical clothing vs. transforming digital fashion at the product level.
Summary
Research on metaverse so far has focused specific characteristics of the latter and looking at the consequences from profit-a normative perspective. Surprisingly little is known about how particular metaverse projects inspire transformations in customers' life beyond the explanations in sustainability (fewer emissions) and expressing selves-related outputs. To fill this gap, this paper presents a single case qualitative study that shows how the metaverse fashion project transforms wearing clothes in social media and what else it could do.
Keywords: metaverse project, wearing digital clothes, digital fashion, social media, transferring solutions from physical to digital fashion, transforming wearing clothing in social media

I performed dry sliding reciprocating wear test on nickel based thermal spray coatings. Generally, wear rate and COF decreases as we increase the temperature. During my experiment, COF decreased while wear rate increased to a large extent at high temperature. In few papers, I got to know that after reaching certain temperature, wear rate trend changes. Please provide some insights. Connectivity with related research works would be much appreciated.
High-speed machining of titanium alloys is commonly used in the aerospace, automotive, and biomedical industries due to the high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance of these materials. However, the machining of these alloys is challenging due to their low thermal conductivity, high chemical reactivity, and low machinability. In addition, tool wear is a common issue in the high-speed machining of titanium alloys, which can lead to poor surface finish, dimensional errors, and increased scrap rates. Therefore, understanding the effects of tool wear on surface roughness and dimensional accuracy is crucial for improving the quality and efficiency of titanium machining. Furthermore, identifying effective methods for compensating for tool wear can help to maintain consistent part quality and minimize scrap rates. This study aims to investigate the effects of tool wear on surface roughness and dimensional accuracy in high-speed machining of titanium alloys and explore potential methods for compensating for tool wear to improve machining performance.
Other solutions? The patient has tried gabapentin, acupuncture, application of topical creams and ointments, Epsom salt solution soak, acetomenaphin, antidepressants, etc with little success, if any. The problem manifests as swollen toes and fingers, sharp shooting pain, overall burning sensation of feet, bleeding and difficulty wearing shoes or walking. Any help would be appreciated. 🙏
We know that one of thyroid functions is for regulation of our body temperature. When winter already come and fuel are not available because of war impact, could we use any substances to increase body temperature through thyroid pathway ? For example increase our yodium uptake. For our lives survival beside use others ways like wear very thick sweater or jacket.
While depositing TiO2 in a RF magnetron sputtering systems, there seems to be uneven deposition of material. Obviously, variation of film thickness along the substrate is expected along the distance to the target. However, these are very localized anomalies, with clear borders, that seem to appear near the borders of the glass substrates.
This does not happen while depositing, for example, silver. I've flipped the targets between the two avaliable sputtering guns, and the uneven patches always appear on the side of the TiO2 target, so I'm assuming the problem is in the target. The 'wear ring' on the target looks uniform, however this problem only started to happen recently, so it would't be noticeable. There is also still plenty of material on the target.
Is it plausible that electrically charged TiO2 sputtered material is deflected by the magnetron magnetic field, instead of pursuing a random trajectory, covering the typical solid angle? Has someone faced this same problem? Suggestions?
Thank you,
João Pedro

The application of numerical models in the simulation of rock/soil cutting process and at the same time the wear on the cutting tool.
hi, can any one send the code for reciprocating wear test, find out the coefficient of friction and wear analysis?
Hello.
I've been trying to simulate wear in ANSYS for about two weeks now, but now I'm facing another error. An error occurs when calculating wear in ANSYS using the Archard model:"The solver engine was unable to converge on a solution for the nonlinear problem as constrained. Please see the Troubleshooting section of the Help System for more information". I'm trying to simulate a standard wear problem: the indenter is pressed into a rotating disk, you need to find out the wear of the indenter. The simulation takes place in module the transient structural. So far, I'm trying to simulate at least 5 seconds of this wear. I set the disk rotation via APDL using the CMROTATE command. The indenter is limited on the X and Z axes, the disk is limited on Y and Z (also tried to limit only on Y). All settings for frictional contact and analysis settings are shown in the screenshot. The second screenshot also shows the zones that are highlighted by Newton-Raphson Residential Force. 3 screenshot shows the grid, it seems to me that it is quite small.
Thank you very much in advance. I've already tried to do more sub-steps, but it doesn't help.

Hi everyone
I have done an experimental test (Hinge and stopper) to see the wear between the material (steel and polymer).
After the experimental test, I saw wear in the polymer. I wanted to measure the worn volume.
Could you please give me your suggestion on how I can measure the worn volume? I used a 3D scanner to scan the specimen and then measure the volume but It was not an accurate method.
Thank you in advance for taking your time and consideration.
In the process of cutting the workpiece using a lathe, the cutting tool is an important thing to note, but it is difficult to know if the cutting tool will wear out. Therefore, it will be easier if you can know the characteristics that indicate that the cutting tool will wear out.
Hi,
Im stuck with a statistical question of one subchapter:
We have two groups surgeons versus non surgeons. We test the sensibility of the hand with wearing different size of gloves: fitted, undersized, oversized, and comparing them to bare hands (control).
Our questions are:
1) does glove fit alter the sensibility?
2) is sensibility of undersized gloves comparable to bare hand?
3) is there a difference in sensibility between surgeons and non surgeons when wearing gloves?
I believe that the control group=bare hands has to be excluded in the Two Way analysis, regarding to the question 1) and 3) since they require wearing gloves. Should the Question 2) analyzed separately with a one way ANOVA?
Thank you very much!
What information do we get from 2D optical graph of wear track related to tribology?

I am looking for a metal/ceramic material that has good wear resistance in corrosive gases (HF: 750 ppmv, HCl: 200 ppmv, N2: 70 %, O2 % 18 %, remaining constituents are SO2, H2SO4 (1%), SO3, CO2, H2O) at operating temperatures of 450 C. pH ~1.
Can you be specific on what grade of alloys or class of ceramics I should be looking at? I am sure if there is an application, some material is used for it.
Tire wear as particels (nano mm up to mm large ) is about 40 percent of microplastic problem.
what are your ideas to solve or
reduce this huge environmental hazard?
Hi all,
I’ve got a question about which statistical test (SPSS) to use.
I will shortly explain my research:
The subjects wear sensors (which will measure the angle while they’re bending) while they are at work and performing their job. At the end, the results will come out in a table which will state how long (seconds/minutes) the subject has bended in a certain angle. Attached is a file with an example of one of the results I will get!
The result outlined in red means: the subject was for 224.3333 seconds in a bending position within an angle of 10-20 degrees.
Now I wanna compare these kinds of results to a standard of static working postures. For example, this standard states that if the bending position is in an angle of 20 degrees for max 4 minutes, it’s allowed, but not longer than 4 minutes. Or if the bending position is in an angle of more than 60 degrees, it’s not acceptable.
Which kind of statistical test should I use to compare these kind of results with the standard? I have to use SPSS.

Hello fellow researchers
i am working on cermets tribology and using pin on disk methods with disk made of cermet sliding against a diamond pin.the tribometer data gives wear volume(mm3),wear rate(mm3/m) and cof with an interval of 0.328 seconds.the sliding istance is approximately 200m.thus we have a lage amount of plotted data.i have a few confusions which i want to clarify
1)total Wear volume is the total sum of all all data points?( i assume it is) or an average of all data points should be considered
2)Total wear rate?average or sum?( i assume sum is the right option)
3) cof?( i assume an average of all datapoints should be taken)
another question regarding wear coefficient k=wearvol(mm3)*hardness vickers(in mpa)/load(N)*total sliding distance(mm)
wear vol=i took sum of all data plots
hardness=avg hardness of test samples
load=40N(as aplied)
distance=Distance in mm
one measurement gave a wear cof of 1.5e-06 which is good for cemented carbides(i assume)
am i following the correct methodology here?
please find enclosed image of some readings for guidance.

After the test is carried out what would the appropriate way for measuring the wear rate and how can I validate the results of material which is been tested .
I am working on a object recognition model that is able to detect whether the person in the picture is wearing any type of headwear or not (hat/cap/helmet/scarf/raincoat etc etc) . I am unable to find any large publicly available datasets of this kind. As of now I am resorting to writing scripts that scrape images from the web of people wearing hats/caps etc using bing image downloader API and Google image downloader API . Please let me know of any publicly available datasets of this kind. Thank you.
Convalescent people have high anti-SARS CoV2 antibodies (different varieties apart from regular anti-spike proteins) in their plasma which are sufficient to neutralize heavy viral load. Such people generate robust immune response to neutralize successive encounter from the same virus (not mutant). Can such people serve as the 'carrier' of virus and potentially infect others healthy individuals in sorrounding? Do these people really need to wear face masks and practice social distancing? If yes, what are the main reasons for that? Thanks in advance for sharing knowledge 😊
Wearing of nose mask is one the Corona Virus (Covid-19) preventive measures recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).
We clean Solar mod surfaces every day. With my research on this I have found many manufacturers are voiding warranty if the coating is removed by, cleaning, pressure washing or any other form of scrubbers like rotary brushes being used.
Does this coating wear off in time?
Does it get removed be a higher mohz hardness?
If it is removed, can it be replaced with same coating?
The "two groups" will be in fact the same group of people. The first time they will not wear a brace while the second time they will wear one. The posttest measure will be after a fatigue protocol is executed.
Hello,
I am doing some tribological tests with a reciprocal sliding tribological test.
To calculate the wear rate, the wear volume is needed with high accuracy. Do you have any accurate and easy method(s) to evaluate that wear volume? I have already tried some imaging with 3D digital microscopy but the initial roughness of the substrate makes the measurement difficult.
Thank you in advance,
Alexandre
I have no prior coding experience but i want learn to write subroutine in Abaqus especially the ones dealing with wear (UMESHMOTION)..plz tell me from where should I begin
hello
In my wear simulation, I need to define 18000 cycles. Defining the numerous cycles take much time, so it is not possible to utilize the regular method. I found a paper about high cycles fatigue that the authors used the Jump-in-cycles algorithm.
I did not find more things about this algorithm. Can you help me how define this algorithm in Abaqus for my wear simulation?
Thanks,

Dear researchers,
I am working on Mg composites fabricated by powder metallurgy. I have investigated the wear behavior of Mg-based composites with variation in temperature. I observed that wear rate increased with an increase in the wear temperature. Can anyone explain me in detail, why is it happening? What is the mechanism? I am looking for your responses.
Thank you so much.
what are the factors that affect the coefficient of friction in surface coatings and can I get this research paper "Laser surface cladding of Ti-6Al-4V on AISI 316L stainless steel for bio-implant application"
Hi all,
I was just wondering if two materials (e.g: Steels and cobalt alloys) with the same coefficient of friction exhibit different wear rates. Can this be possible or not?
Kindly assist with published references.
Thanks
Wearing mask has been inevitable, though not bad, it too has established a mask culture over the world. Along with it arose some major problems, likewise, identity issues, healty issues and bargaining. Production of mask has taken the shape of big profit making Industries. There is a lack of knowledge regarding proper wearing of mask. There is no check on production firms. There should be parameters and specifications on material, size, thickness, etc. for producing masks of good quality. Many a time, wearing a mask creates identity crisis and it may create some other social problems if not handled within time. What do you think about these issues? Kindly share your views and experience.
Dear Users,
I would like to simulate the wear in a hip implant joint. I will be happy to know the procedure of wear estimation in ansys 21 software.
Dear all,
I would like to simulate the wear test in a hard coating layers. I will be happy to know the procedure of wear estimation in ansys or COMSOL software.

There are institutions in many countries where students wear unisex uniforms. Some educational psychologists and human rights activists believe that such decisions will decrease gender discrimination to a certain extent and will help give women enjoy equal status in society. However, people, especially with an orthodox mindset, oppose this type of liberal movement, saying that this will denigrate the status of women. What do you think?

I am an undergraduate student learning the ropes of microplastic sample processing and have found that my blanks continue to have above average counts of fiber contamination. We have found that disposable masks might be a culprit and have stopped wearing them in the lab but still find fibers matching that of disposable masks in my blanks. Has anyone run into this issue? Has anyone found a way to overcome this problem?
To combat this virus, wearing the mask and social distancing is only the solution but mostly people ignore this and take it lightly/
Whether someone is vaccinated or has previously had Covid-19, they are safely immune from getting the disease again. But does that mean they are also not contagious to others? Some research indicates they can still catch the virus and be contagious and should continue to wear a mask. What are your views based on reported research?
CR is supposed to bone to bone relationship rather than centric occlusion which is teeth to teeth relationship....

I want to know which combination results in higher wear loss.
1) Pin: Conventional carbon steel (280 hv), Disk: Conventiona carbon steel (280 hv)
2) Pin: Ultrastrong steel (320 hv), Disk: Ultrastrong steel (320 hv)
Assumed that the wear loss is measured by the difference in weight of pin samples before and after the pin-on-disk test.
1) or 2) ??
Conversion of linear wear into specific wear rate
I performed a dry ball-on-disk wear test on In-718 plate, but in my wear profile, I am getting a "hump" in the middle of the wear track. By looking at the SEM images, it appears that this extra material that forms the "hump" is not uneroded material, but is just In-718 that has adhered to the wear track.
Does anyone know of any methods to remove this adhered material on the track? It could be mechanical or chemical, but my objective is to remove this material to get the proper profile of the wear track.
Losing lives for covid-19 is sorrowful. It could be avoided. People do participate and help spreading the virus whether intentionally or unintentionally by violating rules. I'm astonished to see such violations. Most countries warned people and imposed fines as well as launched intensive mass media to keep people at home for a limited period of time so as to stop spreading the virus. With all of those precautions, we can see those gatherings without masks and physical distancing. In your opinion, what could motivate people to wear masks and do physical distancing? Any novel or creative ideas?
Hi
At the current point, I am wondering about which survival analysis to use for my data. My data is consisting of one control group and three exposure groups. One of the exposure groups is known to have a difference in toxicity over time (in my case, taken into account by making a gradient over distance). Therefore it is necessary to divide the groups into three stages, making 12 survival curves (with eight individuals per stage) per experiment.
The data is only right-censored, but the amount of censoring in the different groups is wearing much. That being, the control and one of exposure group has almost no censoring (three of the six stages in the two groups has only censored data, the rest of the stages only one or two deaths)
The survival curves between two of the exposure groups are crossing.
Also, many of the survival curves inside the different exposure groups (two of the exposure groups and the control) are crossings, as they do not have a difference in toxicity over time.
What would be a soothing survival analysis for such an experiment? Moreover, how problematic is the crossing of the curves if it's expected?

In my wear results, the effect of parameter will give different results for wear volume loss and wear rate. For instance, the wear volume loss is increase with the increase of applied load, However, if I use wear rate, the wear volume loss will divided with load and sliding distance which will make the wear rate decrease with increasing applied load. So which one I should use i.e. wear volume loss or wear rate to report my wear data?
I am working on a simulation of two blocks connected frictionally by surface contact, one block slides on another. I have to calculate the wear occurred on the moving block. please tell me, how to write TB wear command in Ansys APDL for this analysis and how to plot results.
I need to figure out on the correlation between material used in fabric masks (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) and the associated frequency that affects its degradation (focusing on wear and tear). I need to get the material and run in production line and monitor the goods especially its frequency which related to wear and tear. In my assumption, this is related with ultra sonic frequency & I need also to see the suitable frequency for this study right?
I need few suggestions on this matter, so that can start my project as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Dear,
I was asked to give "the wear" of some materials for a number of applications.
There are a lot of conventions for this and this has been documented before.
I remember seeing a paper passing by that looked at the presentations of one conference and gave an overview of the number of methods that were used to rank for wear loss (either WOM or Nordtrib). They gave an overview of all the methods and basically, every presentation used different formulae.
I think this was not the main topic of the paper, only the introduction.
That's probably why I have trouble finding it back.
I would like to show this paper to make clear that there is not a universal value (and one should not compare raw numbers). Any pointers to the paper I described (or a similar one) would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
-Michiel
I am currently working on my dissertation and want to explore the role of competence as a mediator between the effect of colour of clothes on voting intention (focus on Western countries). Initially, I wanted to do a mediation analysis with colour (4 conditions) being the IV, competence the mediator (measured on a scale 1 - 9) and voting intention the DV (measured on a scale 1 - 7). However, as colour is a preset categorical variable I am looking for alternatives to mediation analysis. I am currently considering a one-way repeated-measures MANOVA but would be grateful for any suggestions and further help.
More details on the study design: I asked participants to rate "perceived competence" and "likelihood of voting for" using pictures of politicians wearing the four colours as stimuli.
Thank you in advance!
I'm looking to do a sliding wear (plate-on-plate) simulation of GFRP composite plates with Archard Wear Model.
Any hints or example steps are appreciated.
I have conducted the cylinder on cylinder fretting wear tests at various loads (i.e. 30-60 N). The wear scar and COF decreases with increasing load.
For the purpose of selecting the best one among the 4 design approaches, experimental video surveillance has taken. The dependent variable is the distance (meter) and the independent variables are lighting (3 levels) and design ( 4 levels). Perceptions on the distance have taken from the 100 respondents. For example, one pedestrian wearing a blue jacket (one design among 4) and walking on the straight road. A video was taken and prepared for respondent perception for showing on the computer screen. Each 5-meter distance from the video camera up to 200 m ( 40 sections) was shown and respondent gave their response as they detect or not. One respondent data like that: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 0, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 0, 0, 70, ...................................... Among the digits, 0 means unable to detect. I would like to select the best design approach based on the lighting. Additionally, How can I measure the effectiveness of 0?
Should people who do not wear protective face masks be allowed to shop in grocery stores? Should they be allowed to use public forms of transportation, including bus, train, commercial airliner?
Archard wear Model doesn't concerns particular hardness property, specifically like Brinell, Rockwell or Vickers hardness.
Has anyone used the Archard wear model with particular hardness property? And why so?
What are the methods to be followed for the corrosion behaviour at lab scale?
The process of hanging the sample can be a possible way. However, certain area exposure is not possible for small component (say for disc sample of having dia 8mm and 5mm thickness).

I want to know different testing methods to investigate the mechanical behavior of steel wire
Dear colleagues,
We plan to conduct a systematic investigation (both simulation and measurements) of the practical settings with a high risk of airborne infection. We would greatly appreciate it if you can offer some ideas about which settings we should look into, especially, the settings in which current preventive measures (such as wearing masks and social distancing) cannot be readily implemented.
We hope to recover, and the economy improved by using vaccination .and vaccines is needed.
The vaccine will protect you from getting ill and then ending up hospitalized. But it's possible that you could still carry the virus and be contagious to others. So those who get the vaccine should still be wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.so my question ,are we going to be improved by vaccination?
While feeling the shared pain of costly and slow PCB Manufacturing process. Which also makes the hardware creativity and education much costly and slow.
I was trying to figure out how can we decrease the cost of PCB manufacturing, get it made quickly and still maintain the level of quality we currently get. I came across the concept of using UV laser for Board cutting boards and drilling board plus using Masked SLA type of process for UV expose.
- To me, this seems like a revolutionary setup.
- You can make every board different, which makes enables mass customization
- Very less wear outs as there are no drill bits to die
- Automation can be a much higher decreasing need for costly labour and faster lead time
- Fewer machines and setup costs which makes the footprint of the plant smaller
- Above 2 points can make PCB Manufacturing feasible outside china as well
- Maybe we can mitigate the setup cost of PCB and bring down the cost of proto PCBs to the cost of PCB manufactured at scale
All these seem that for at least 2-layer rigid or flexible PCB, a lot of initial costs can be mitigated and prototype PCB manufacturing cost can be decreased.
So what am I missing? What are the technical or commercial challenges you see in making with this way of manufacturing a PCB?
Will we have to wear masks after the vaccine or will we be able to go as before and or the risk of infection will be reduced ..
A recent study shows that even herd immunity does not work in controlling corona virus in most effective manner. Rather it is the mask that is the use of universal face masks work most effectively. The study shows if some one who is sick wears a mask it blocks out 90% of the virus when talking and 74% of the virus when cough . It is most preventive when some one is healthy and wears face mask. Along with masking, physical isolation does work broadly and tracing, tracking, testing and treating are the other best possible ways to get a handle on it without lock downs.
Do you agree ??

I recently replaced the pump seals in my system (there were four of them, I only replaced the ones farthest from the pistons (not in the o-ring things) because I didn't know if I could replace the other ones. Anyways, I was trying to do the seal wear in procedure but I think I did it wrong. I set up my solvent line to pick up some pure methanol (a compressible liquid comparable to IPA) and ran it through the whole system. However, I kept the capillary on the purge valve still connected. This was because if I left it open, I could not get the pressure to go beyond 150. Was I doing something wrong that made it not be able to build pressure? I also tried plugging it with an end cap to help with the pressure but that did not work either. Also, I think video instructions of this procedure would be very kindly appreciated just in general.
I am getting surface temperature and pressure.
But surprisingly i am not getting wear rate.
I have used decimal values upto 9 levels .
Also i have I have tried with different A and B constant value.
But outcome is always zero for local coordinate system.
developed countries, contact lens (CL) wear, specifically extended wear (EW) with hydrogel lenses, overrides all other risk factors for the development of keratitis in otherwise healthy eyes.
We nitride 15-5PH stainless steel for aircraft landing gear at 405 degrees for 70 hours to get a case depth of 40 microns. We have noticed on testing that we get spallation and wear of the case. We tested a component with a 20 micron case under the same conditions and it performed much better (almost no wear). Could someone provide an explanation of this effect?
I found a paper that only presents the data without properly telling why. According to them, At 20% CF loading, PEEK- Pitch CF composite provided higher friction and more wear rate, while at 30% CF loading, PEEK-PAN CFRP composite provided higher friction and more wear rate. I would appreciate if anyone could provide me some explanations. Thank you!

flattening the curve
In epidemiology, the idea of slowing a virus' spread so that fewer people need to seek treatment at any given time is known as "flattening the curve." It explains why so many countries are implementing "social distancing" guidelines
Some of the scientifically unanswered questions that puzzles my mind are:
Is it scientific to assume that virus entry to the body can be restricted by wearing a mask, as if the virus is of a mosquito size? Does air not pass into you through the sideways of the face mask, otherwise what are you inhaling, or is it biologically allowed to inhale the carbon dioxide exhaled? Does air not invade your rooms or are you wearing a mask 24/7 at home? Is it scientific to block proper inhaling, that too in a pollution free atmosphere, as if your heart doesn’t need adequate oxygen? Why are a large number of masked doctors and health workers falling prey to the virus? If physical distancing can check the spread of the virus, then how much physical distance is to be maintained within family members during the home stay, as if the virus can travel to a limited distance? And if so, has someone exactly found the distance that they can travel? Does physical distancing mean virus germinate through physical friction, as if people follow the same rule at home, even in their conjugal relationship? What distance between the patients is prescribed or maintained in camps, schools, hospitals, railway trains, stadiums meant for their quarantined rehabilitation? Has it been followed by the lakhs of migrant workers walking down for 1000s of miles to reach their home safety? Do we have a proper justification for socially distancing ourselves from a healthy family as a next-door neighbor? Unlike the downtrodden, how come the V VIPs and Premiers, living with the best of hygienic conditions, are falling prey to the virus?
material wear will change depend on thermal conductivity? pls explain
1. Why 5, 10 and 15% of SiC was chosen? any base reference paper related to it. Why not below 5% is to be included.
2. What will be the result if the % of SiC is reduced less than 5% in wear properties? Weather is it possible to have antagonistic effect on wear resistance, with the incorporation of SiC?
3. The criteria for selecting the values of input parameters for wear examination for three levels (in Table 3) must be specified.
Wear of bent pipe takes place in wire rod mill due to high temperature and abrasive action of moving wire rods through it. Need suggestion for abrasion resistance material.
After reported first coronavirus case in State of Washington January 20, 2020, and seeing first case death in Seattle Hospital, quarter there had been more than 10,000 case reported in Seattle hospital itself. The life of normal human being has been changed so far. It has started with buying basic shopping in grocery stores to entertainment and shopping.
The question is here that what New Normal is for consumer who was regularly visited shopping malls, cinema halls, musical parks, resorts and other public events.
Will consumer behave the normal way as they were doing previously?
The effect of Covid-19 will remain forever or it will vanish with the time…???
Let me brief my experience of shopping in a store in North Carolina (USA) after the store just opened from the lockdown. We went for Guitar shopping and in the process, I visited two stores in-person and before that I visited many websites to understand the basic features and other essential accessories for the guitar for beginner. We were about to book online seeing online deal of the product but we hold our decision for a day. After brainstorming, we decided to visit some stores at least to have a look of guitar and just to have feel of it while holding guitar in hands. Please note here that I mentioned here to have feel of Guitar. That’s very important for consumer in buying at least in some product/s to have feel while consuming it or using it.
Since we are first time guitar buyer, it is very important for us to have a feel before buying it. In case of guitar, I understand during the buying process of guitar that guitars are available in different sizes, shapes and strings. The material is also very important and keep in mind while buying as a beginner buyer of guitar.
So again come to the point of buying product after New Normal…. Is not a Normal anymore, isn’t it?
When we entered into a store of Guitar, we were told to sanitize our hands and not to touch anything unless you finalize your buying decision. Of course, they allow to touch on your two or three options but not randomly touching all that you want to see like previously you did in a store normally. Now that is not at all Normal. Because storekeeper has to sanitize all the products what customers have touched to see? Uff! Isn’t it big task? More important he cannot cater or allow all the customers depends on the size of the store to enter at a time. Storeowners has to have a dedicated person to supervise this in a store.
So now there is one more role added in the storeowner duty i.e. apart from cleaning or better to say sanitize all the products before opening the store, during store hours and while closing the store, make sure all the staffs wear masks and hand glows and keep customers in line in tact in store so they can follow “six feet distancing” among all other next customers.
This is just one small example for buying guitar in a store. There are number of products irrespective of its nature of origin.
Tipping point:
The challenge is that how the business offers products to the consumers in New Normal.
Will consumers back for shopping as usual or they restrict themselves not to be in public immediate contact of any such products?
What experience can business house offer to consumers in New Normal?
What about the products that we try buy wearing and having ‘touch feel’ of it before buying?
Both CDC and OSHA recommend eye-protection at the time of contact with COVID patients? However they do not distinguish between goggles (which provide better seal around eyes but not to other parts of face) and face shield (which can cover the whole face but not a good seal). Wearing both can pose problems with fogging and increased discomfort. Would you be comfortable with any one? If yes, which one?
I am looking for a wear detection method for a pipe that goes under intense heat and pressure for short instances at intervals. this process has an average cooldown time of 8 seconds between each cycle.
Whether continuous wearing of mask may cause weakness?
i want to move a parabolically varying load according to time in ansys apdl. this should be written with codes because i want to apply this load for many cycles.
I am talking about machining conditions, when we machine CFRP with carbide tool. The fiber causes wear on the cutting tool. How does the fiber diameter may affect the tool wear behavior? Would be glad to have some insight. Thank you!
CDC provided guidance to the public "Wash hand, disinfect surfaces, cover sneezing" ever since the outbreak of COVID-19. I get a strong sense this guidance is for contact transmitted disease such as pink eyes! It is a wrong guidance for COVID-19 because COVID-19 is a respiratory infectious disease spreading by viral carrying salivary micro-particles in the air. In my opinion, the chance getting infected from the virus carrying aerosol in the air is 100 times high than the virus landed on the surface. If I wear a full face respirator all the time except alone and take a bath after taking off my respirator, I will not be infected! I can go to work or school normally. What is your option, please challenge me how could I get infected?
I can Challenge CDC by meeting with COVID-19 patient who can talk without face mask. I wear a full face respirator, CDC wear rubber gloves; let's see who will be infected!
.
What are the chances of spreading COVID through open laparotomy operations, if you are wearing N 95 mask only but not full PPE kit ?
( in comparison to direct aerosol spread.. )
- How to find a relationship between velocity and weir landing length (X') as shown in figure?

Is there any research paper or advisory that specifically emphasized on educating the public to keep the eyes, nasal and oral structures clean to prevent or fight against the infection caused by corona virus? If not, why it has been disregarded? Are people wearing the masks & regularly sanitizing the hands not affected by COVID 19 at all?
Non-exhaust emissions are increasingly in the interest of science. There are numerous working groups around the world that are concerned, for example, with the development of standardized test procedures for determining brake wear particle number and mass. As the interest on the part of the legislator is growing, the developments are becoming more and more extensive.
This platform shall enable scientists to exchange information on important issues and developments in the field of sampling, measurement and classification as well as on technological measures to reduce brake/tyre wear emissions. To make the exchange as efficient as possible, it is necessary that numerous experts gather on this platform. In this way, questions on global developments can be answered in a targeted manner.
How to calculate the life of the brake pad based on the it's wear . For example , the brake pad is subjected to multiple braking events at various temperatures. At all the temperature level, wear displacement value ( How much amount of pad is worn out) is available. By using those data & using the actual thickness of the brake pad, how to calculate the life of the pad ? The pad is used in passenger car.
Wear and tear in steel/stainless steel pump parts like impeller, sleeves, bowl would cause leakage, reduction in the head height, reduce discharge, increase clearances, etc. How does this wear and tear in such part influence the pump parameters? Case studies, personal experiences, professional opinions are all welcome.
Thanks and best regards,

i working on the enhancement of wear resistance properties of coated stainless steal in the absence and presence of various lubricant. In experiments , in the presence of some lubricants, the coefficient of friction was lower as compared to other lubricant but the wear rate was higher than the other. i repeat the experiment several tome but got the same results. so, is it possible that with lower coefficient of friction we are getting higher wear rate?
