Conducting the practical examination with strict observance of social distancing, is an uphill task. The faculty of our department is busy preparing mock clinical situations, such as showing patient's videography, clinical images etc. to the students for them to make an assessment and reply accordingly.
We are not too sure whether this is the right way to test the clinical skills of an outgoing postgraduate, but may be OK for the unprecedented times that we are facing now.
We welcome suggestions on how to go about conducting practicals for the MD final exam.

As a student I am currently working on a Social Media Research report project analysing a piece of content that has both interesting audio voice over and interesting videography.
In my research of this content I would like to briefly discuss how we absorb content and if there is any difference between genders when absorbing content that has both visual and audio.
Relevant answer
Answer
As Michael W. Marek suggests, once you have a clear taxonomy of the corpus of analysis and after setting specific topics for analysis, you can try to do a multimodal analysis of the content. In this way you can observe and analyze how the two types of semiotic resources (audio and visual content) are combined to build meaning.

Answer
Do you have a set of results from analyzing quantitative data? If so, you might use a mixed method approach called an "explanatory sequential design" where the follow-up qualitative methods gives you a better understanding of your quantitative results.

Dear Research Gate Colleagues,
Comments please.
I saw some very emotionally moving videos of the tremendous damage in Gary, Indiana, a consequence of the massive withdrawal of industrial investment as the steel mill has downsized.
Thousands of houses, schools, public buildings, are sitting vacant and falling into ruins. How can all the industrial "ruins porn" videographers increase the impact of their films?
I was impressed but I wonder if many people know about all these videos in places like YouTube.  I sent links out to friends of a couple videos about Gary, Indiana.  I gave these videos descriptions and ratings.  I also wonder how we can start some award for industrial ruins videos named something like The Steel Phoenix.
BELOW: PLANET GARY’S Thousands of abandoned buildings. (Videos)
(Some wobbly camerawork but goes right around town. It’s got heart. You can click on individual buildings that the film maker entered.  The Memorial Auditorium is one I recommend.)

Three suggestions to increase the impact of industrial urban decay videos in Gary Indiana.
1. Timeliness is important -  invent time machine and start filming in the 1970s.
2. Have a celebrity (preferably from the performing arts) narrate the video.
3. A dramatic musical score.

The data is taken by cameras carried by dogs involved in rescue operations, so the images present:
- Lots of motion due to the camera being attached to the dog's vest (and the dog running, jumping).
- All possible image artifacts: Blur, illumination changes, dust, water in the lense...
I understand it is going to be difficult to obtain "smooth" video, but any improvement in the images will be most welcome.
Thanks !

I think that for the purposes of the question, you'd be better off reading the credits directly from a database and cross-referencing them with internet data on the persons' ethnicity/age/etc with respect to whatever your diversity metric is. for the purposes of the tag lines, there are some excellent ethnic/sex based feature sets described in on-line graphic arts and fashion industry pages. these provide concise descriptions of features associated with the sex of major ethnicities, as well as age. you could translate that to a facial feature recognition and just scan frames of your video files. I remember answering a similar question on ethnic facial recognition... its in the RG feed somewhere.

Does anyone have recommendations of how to record video for very simple behavioural measures (e.g. yawning) using online studies? I will probably use Prolific for participant recruitment and collect self-report data using Qualtrics.
Many thanks,
Fergus
Relevant answer
Hi Fergus,
Of course you can embed video into many on-line survey platform (e.g., Qualtrics), so that part is no problem. The difficulty is in the recording the participants. In order to record people participating in an on-line study, you would need an app that could gain control of their webcam and record them, store the data, and have it available for your retrieval. As far as I know, this does not currently exist (and I've searched). The best you could do is ask participants to record themselves with their webcam while doing your study, and to email you the subsequent video.
Another problem with this is the angle of most webcams. Think of when you are on Skype and can see your own image, it is at a downward angle. So, depending on what you want to use the video for (e.g., behavioural observation, facial expression taxonomy, etc), this may also prove problematic as most of the face is not reliably visible.
In short, this limitation is why I am still mostly doing lab based studies. Sorry I didn't have good news for you

I am fairly new to this type of data analysis, as my study is looking to identify the 'character of place' of two Montana communities. I've done demos with MAXQDA, Nvivo, and Atlas.ti, but am not quite sure which pieces of functionality I should focus on to differentiate the available options. Any insights into a platform that can best handle video and image analysis as well as transcribed qualitative interviews is more than appreciated.
Ease of use/learning curve and ability to produce analysis in a visual friendly way are considerations I would like to emphasize as well.

Hi Evan,
NVivo is a great tool for researchers who want to analyze video files, images and interview documents. I'm an online community manager at QSR (makers of NVivo) so my comments may be a little biased :)
Here's how you might approach your analysis:
As you read through an interview you find comments about culture. You create a container (aka node) called 'culture' then drag and drop the comments into the container. Then you watch a video about local theatre, select a segment and drop that into the 'culture' container too. Same goes for images (or just sections of an image). Then, as you go deeper, you can open the 'culture' container and see all the content (video, images, text) in one place - this makes it easier for you to find patterns, make summaries and write up your findings.
There are some great visualizations (models, charts, word clouds) that you can use to explore your data and present your findings in an engaging way.
To get up and running you can check out the video tutorials on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/QSRInternational
Good luck with your study - Montana is beautiful so I imagine you'll enjoy the ride :)
