Question
1 answer
Dear all,
Turkey has been hit by several major earthquakes. Thousands of people died, millions lost their dearest and their homes. Turkey is trying to recover from both the figurative and real ruins. What would you suggest to do, both to academics and students affected by these earthquakes, to utilize academic studies to recover from these disasters? Thank you very much in advance.
Best wishes
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi Murat, it's an unspeakable catastrophe for those affected and I don't want to pretend to have solutions. You pose a very good question, though, and a couple of humble ideas that spring to mind with regards to English studies are 1) strengthening inclusivity and participation to play a role in the economic recovery of affected areas and 2) employing approaches such as ecocriticism and trauma studies to help deal with the experience and the aftermath (as a fellow Shakespearean, you will probably know about some of the work that's been done on Shakespeare, performance, and mental health)

The recent earthquake in Turkey and neighboring countries.
Relevant answer
Answer
In connection with the question can remember about next factors:
1. It is known about the reflection of electromagnetic radiation (ER) from the ionosphere. The high frequencies of the ER are absorbed and the low frequencies of the ER are reflected.
2. The purpose of the HAARP project was to study the interaction of the ionosphere with powerful ER.
3. HAARP and similar systems use highly directional transmitting antennas, usually phased array antennas, capable of focusing almost all of the radiated energy into a narrow beam and therefore into a small area of space.
4. It is known about the effect of ER on deformation processes in the Earth crust. An assumption was put forward about the trigger mechanism of the effect of ER on seismicity.
5. There are facts of strengthening the seismic regime under the influence of a magnetohydrodynamic generator (MHD generator).
6. There were statements of a political nature about the evacuation of the diplomatic embassies of Western countries before the earthquake itself on February 6, 2023 in Turkey.
7. There are other stations capable of influencing the Earth's ionosphere.
Therefore, the technogenic impact of such ER systems on seismicity cannot be ruled out.

Can we propose newer seismic provisions for designing a building along a faultline of tectonic plates? Is it possible to safeguard the occupants of such earthquake occured recently in Turkey of magnitude 7.8 richter?
Relevant answer
Answer
In Google Scholar and Google do a search using the words safeguard, retrofit, fault-lines and 7 richter for homes and commercial building design. Add specific areas that you know to sit on or near fault-lines. I'm in the US. The entire south west coast sits on fault-line. Look for building standards for the city of San Francisco, in the state of California. They continue build and rebuild the city due to severe earthquakes using the latest building ideas.

Appeal to geophysicists and leadership of Turkey.
Greetings to you, colleagues. It's a tough time, I sympathize with you.
Moreover, I saw the anomalies of these two earthquakes ten hours before the start of the shocks.
Unfortunately, one station does not give data: about where this earthquake will be. This means that it is impossible to predict. For an accurate forecast, you need to have a network of five stations or more.
Only once I was able to give an accurate forecast of an earthquake of magnitude 8 with two stations - this is according to the anomaly in Haifa, I gave a forecast of an earthquake in the Sea of Okhotsk - for 4 days. The error in the start time of the shocks was 10 hour, since there were no additional stations to get the intersections of the vectors, the triangle of error.
If you and your government want to create a working group that will supply equipment to seismic stations (for about 10 stations), then I am ready to give you advice on the interpretation of the Kozyrev-Yagodin wave, forecasting with high accuracy. I was offered this in a laboratory in Russia, but my children are in Israel and Turkey and I must, first of all, protect their lives.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Fuqiong Huang, I am very glad that you answered me. I wrote to a Chinese newspaper in Russian to set up an official group with China. I can be considered a successor of the Chinese experience. I was able to find the cause of the false prediction after a successful prediction in Haicheng. This made it possible to understand the whole process of the genesis of earthquakes. After applying this theory and practical experience, I had no false predictions. (Of course, if the network is built with modules containing at least five short-term forecast stations). I hope that China will participate in building the Global Short-range Forecast Network. We can try to involve the Technion (Haifa) in this, this institute works with China.
My documents of official scientific expertise and test results and discussion of this in the Russian Expert Council are suitable for an official appeal to the governments of countries to allocate funds for the creation of regional centers of the Global Network. This is where you have to start. The Israeli government is still busy with itself, and therefore, first of all, we can talk with your government. My book is in the National Library of China.

At present, the dust storm has more and intense in the Middle East and have many environmental problems for some countries in this region especially in Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, and Iran ,
Some researchers and scientists say that this problem is caused by climate change and others say by improper water management. For example, the construction of river dams in Turkey, Syria and other countries is the main cause of dust intensification. what is your opinion?
Relevant answer
Answer
To keep the rain clouds moving and producing rain across the Middle East and cut down on a lot of the atmospheric dust of the area, here is a map where we need to keep a layer of native plants on the surface, to keep that soil in place and out of the air. Are you going to check on the plans for your country, how many billions of trees will Iran be planting out of the total of 50 billion, for the "Middle East Green Initiative" -- to also cut down in the dust?

Before you put me in the same category as Von Daniken, hear me out.
When the ice spread across Europe, it basically annihilated everything and changed the landscape. New valleys and fjords later emerged where there had been none.
My reason for asking such a speculative question is partly related to the extraordinary age of the Göbekli Tepe site in Turkey, and the fact that in order to raise such structures skills are needed which presuppose organized learning of some sort.
Today archaeology has moved down at almost a molecular level. And I thought this might make it possible to search for clues of what preceded the ice-age in a new way. So, the question is does the evidence exist, and is any search feasible?
Relevant answer
Answer
Archaeological evidence is open to interpretation. There are pre glacial sites that could be interpreted as urban. I would look at the “Indigenous paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere” by Paulette Steeves. She provides very compelling evidence of significant populations in the pre glacial era in North America.

Oppenheim himself wrote in the work that the material is deposited in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, but it can't be found there. How do I perform Turkey post-hoc test (for multiple comparisons) using linear mixed effect model with random (subjects) and fixed effects (3 interventions [groups], 3 repeated measures [time]) in SPSS?
SPSS has options for LSD, Bonferonni and Sidak only
Relevant answer
Answer
I think the Bonferonni adjustment is probably too conservative for pairwise comparisons with only three means. The Fisher's LSD will be more powerful (at least in cases where the omnibus F test is significant as that's the only mechanism for FW error control in the LSD case). Bonferonni and Sidak don't require that omnibus F test is significant (and doing so will make them even more conservative).

For a study that I intend to make a country-based comparison of the legal regulations on the protection of agricultural lands, I examined three examples from Turkey, Germany, and United Kingdom, but I would like to extend these examples.
I'm also quite curious about examples from developing countries that continue this process with a variety of policies and regulations would be great.
Relevant answer
Answer
Protection of agricultural land in China relies more on government control than on legal regulation. In general, rule of law is much weaker than political control in China. So, if you want to study cases from developing countries, you need to go beyond legal regulations. Political control, clan, customs, etc. are very important in those countries.

It is my observation that RG lists name of each regular department at each university heading. But, there are some departments that are not similar in each country. One example is "Department of Public Finance". This field is organized as a separate department in Turkey. In US, it is not named a separate department. It is a part in department of economics. It may have different structure in different countries.
My point here is that those public finance scholars look for their department listing, and have no option to list their name. Some of them put their names on similar department listing such as department of economics or department of finance.
How to correct this technical issue? Suggestions?, thoughts?
Relevant answer
Answer
They don't usually list all, due to different departmental and subject settings across the world. But, the ones with regular departmental settings are listed.

The mineral deposits of the Balkan Peninsula and western Turkey are bound to modern fold belts such as the Carpathians, Dinarides, Balkanides, Hellenides, and Pontides separated by large intermountain basins, e.g., the Pannonian Basin and bordering small basement structures such as the Dobrudja Zone. In view of the vast outcrops of Mesozoic and Cenozoic rocks, unsurprisingly, the majority of mineral deposits are found in Cretaceous, Paleogene, and Neogene rocks. This SE European mineral province is known for its porphyry-type and epithermal silver and gold deposits, e.g., Rosia Montana, Romania, Bor, Serbia, Chelopech, Bulgaria, and Kisladag, Turkey. The metallogenic districts are also host to Pb-Cu-Zn deposits. Additionally, Fe-Mn- and bauxite deposits are still mined. This Special Issue is open for new ideas and models created for these classical ore deposits. First and foremost it will be a forum for research on mineral deposits irrespective of their economic importance as a deposit under exploitation for quite a long period of time or as a newly discovered site in the state of a mining project, such as the lithium-boron mineralization in the Jadar Basin, Serbia. Even if some of the non-metallic mineral assemblages in sedimentary and igneous host rocks have not yet come under the spotlight of mining engineers and entrepreneurs they may be suitable targets for new genetic models and element concentrations hitherto not known from such lithologies. The following keywords should give an idea of the topics of interest for this Special Issue in view of the current and future technologies is given below:
  • Clay minerals,
  • Sand and placers,
  • REE-U-Th mineralization,
  • Nb-Ta- Ge-In-Ga-Se concentrations,
  • PGE mineralization.
Unconventional resources in uncommon environments should be the central theme of this volume. New ideas may be presented as a review or a research paper.

I have whole rock mantle peridotite (harzburgite and dunite) analyse results (ICP-ES) from ACME (Canada) and Academia Sinica (Taiwan). There are three samples problematic for me. I need to explain why these sample's Al2O3 (2.69-3.91 %wt.) contents are high but CaO contents (0.12-0.14) are low... What reason could increase Al2O3 and/or decrease CaO content?
Besides, Cr2O3 contents (4.5-6.3 %wt.) of these peridotites are also high than others. But compared to other samples, there is no significant difference in terms of the Al2O3 content of spinel (by mineral chemistry-EPMA).
How can the scenario be interpreted in this case?
Thanks in advance.
Mustafa
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi Mustafa,
if you are dealing with peridotitic rocks you should, first of all, check your thin sections. Petrography can give more information than simple geochemical analyses. Probably these rocks are rich in orthopyroxene and poor in diopside. It is possible that a former garnet reacted with olivine forming an assemblage stable at lower pressures (e.g., during mantle exhumation) made up of opx+sp.
Coupled with this you can have the formation of metasomatic layers made up of orthopyroxenites whose origin could be related to interaction of SiO2-oversaturated melts with forsteritic olivine, leading to the formation of enstatite-rich metasomes. These SiO2-oversaturated melts can be formed as consequence of partial melting of eclogitic/pyroxenitic lithologies very common in the mantle. Their origin is related to portions of subducted slabs or to basaltic melts crystallized at high depths forming eclogitic assemblages (not basaltic, because plagioclase is not stable at P >1 GPa).
I hope this helps,

In the events in Syria, in the perspective of various organizations in Syria, in the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya and Europe, these intersections are experienced in the energy lines. The downing of Russia's plane and the killing of its ambassador did not break relations. Be a member of NATO, Turkey does not adversely affect relations with Russia. Russia-Turkey relations will be shaped by how the process next time?

TWF was established by a code number 6741 in 2016. Turkey handed over the precious public companies that fund by executive decision. What's really interesting is that TWF's chairman of the board and, the person who appointed the auditors is President of the Turkey. Besides, TWF depends on presidency in terms of administrative law and TWF's vice chairman of the board is Minister of Finance who son-in-law of the president. Is there another sovereign wealth fund in which the president is so active? I know that there are similar situations in Arab countries, China and Russia. But I don't know if there is a sovereign wealth fund managed directly by the president.Currently, TWF which does not currently have much activity, in later times, under these circumstances, it would be beneficial to Turkey?

Hi!
Currently I am analyzing my data and I've got some results of which I don't know what to do with it. I've tested whipped cream on whipping time at three different moments: day 0, day 1 and day 2 (three different groups). Therefore I used a one-way ANOVA test to analyze if there's a difference between the means of the groups. This test is significant, however, when I use a Post Hoc test to analyze which groups differ, these results are all insignificant. The variances are equal so I used the Turkey test (but any other test I can use in my program give the same insignificant results).
I think this is because the ANOVA may give a type I error (incorrect rejection of the H0 hypothesis that there's no difference between the groups) and the Post-Hoc can do a more reliable analysis between the groups. But I don't know exactly how it works.
Does somebody might know how to draw a clear conclusion from these results! I would be very grateful for any help you can provide!
Relevant answer
Answer
In order to support your explanation, I think that you must be sure that the ANOVA meets the assumptions. That gives you a guarantee about the inferences in your analysis. If the answer goes to the right way, to support your conclusions, you must calculate the power of your ANOVA. This will be an objective answer to concluded about your analysis

Since Turkey is located in the Mediterranean macroclimate region in the sub-tropical zone, great rainfall variations can be seen between the years. at the north part, extreme rainfall and flood hazards and at the south and south-west part overheating are among main problems. However, the severity and of these variations is different from region to region. how can we define the most risky region, which its built heritage will be affected more in terms of future climate change?
Relevant answer
Answer
This is a multi-factor problem. Good question, but the answer is not so simple
You'll have to model each (sub-region) individually for future effects of rainfall and temperature ranges but also look at wind patterns and storm events.
You will then need to look at the heritage stock and assess how the building fabric responds to the new (modelled) climatic realities. You can do so by looking at the performance and response to climatic events over the past 30 years . Look at the extreme events and possibly use them as new normal.
The next issue will be the state of the heritage assets and the funding that currently goes into maintenance, both private funding for private buildings and public monies for community-owned assets. What is the trend here? That trend can be forward projected.
You will then also need to take into account the projected impact of climate change on the economic capacity of the private citizens and of the local governments. That will vary from region to region, but will have an impact on the future capacity and willingness to pay for repairs.
When you have all of this in hand, you ned to develop a set of evaluation criteria with relative weighting , which then provide you with a numeric value of future risk that incorporates environmnetal and socio-economic factors.

I think that it would be helpful and necessary to take your opinions about my work which I have explained below. Thank you in advance for your valuable time and contribution.
System, environment, strategy and dialectical method are assumed to be important independent variables in the solution of management problems. At the same time, it is important questions to what extent management gives importance to these concepts, which are independent variables of strategic management, and to what extent they have a positive attitude. The success of management in modern theories; knowledge of these concepts, consciousness, depends on believing in the necessity of these concepts. İn my thesis I want to examine to what extent they give importance to these variables work in different types and sizes of organizations in Turkey. I aim to investigate the level of consciousness and attitudes towards these concepts. It is therefore necessary to develop a scale.

Relevant answer
Dear Sir,
There are several conspiracy theories on Treaties that Turkey has signed. The most enjoyable myth is that the Treaty of Lausanne is limited to 100 years and is due to expire in 2023. We Turks always like to make jokes about it. (in 2023, we will be oil exporters despite the fact that we have no oil only Batman city as bla bla) The other one is Montreux Convention of 1936 that regulates the access to the Bosphorus must be reviewed every 20 years. Nothing happened in 1956, 1976, 1996 and 2016. Turkey is Turkey, these myths reflect the fears of some and the hopes of others. That's all. Turkey loved conspiracy theories in 1923 and will love them in 2023.

I am working on a panel data modeling research aiming to find labor force dynamics which are affecting employment of young newly graduated women engineers in Turkey. We employed the latest Labor Force Survey to build our model, however as you would realize, for country level inferences Turkstat provides weights for each observation, each observation represent a specific share of the Turkish population. However after filtering all female, young, new graduates, who have an engineering degree and works in a role related to engineering my sample fell to 726 from 370,000. From that point I think I am no longer trying to make an inference on Turkish population and should I keep using weights in modeling and discussion part? Or should I treat data as an ordinary random sampled survey and give the same weight for each individual.
Relevant answer
Answer
One thing to keep in mind is that you can't use the original sampling weights anymore, since you excluded 370,000-726 observations from the original data set, so the the original sampling weights are no longer valid. Calculating new sampling weights for your sub-sample would be very hard to do. Also, when and why to use sampling weights, i found this very useful: https://blogs.worldbank.org/impactevaluations/tools-of-the-trade-when-to-use-those-sample-weights

Basrah city is the point where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers unite into the Shatt al-Arab. In recent times, the city has been facing a serious fresh water shortage due to a decreasing river level, which resulted in salt water intrusion. The salinity levels of the Shatt al-Arab increased more than fifteen-fold in the last year, as total dissolve solids, which measures water purity, increased from approximately 10000 to more than 28000 ppm. Although there are several causes related to this issue, the problems started in the 1990s as Turkey built several dams on the Euphrates river. As part of its GAP project, Turkey is now finishing the construction of the Ilisu dam on the Tigris river, which will have a huge impact on Iraq’s water provision. It will reduce fresh water levels in Tigris river by 25%. This impact will be mostly felt at the downstream end of the river, at which lies Basrah.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Hussein,
the question you are asking is the same that is asked in many parts of the world - and unfortunately there is no simple answer.
In an ideal world both countries (or, in a more general term, both parties involved - the upstream and the downstream water users) would get together and discuss a sustainable water resource management plan (IWRM) that takes all water demands (as well as ecological requirements) into consideration. This is already difficult enough if both parties are neighoring regions within the same countries. Adding the transboundary character to this problem makes this theroretical solution highly unlikey. There are best case examples like the International Commision for the Protection of the Rhine (or the similar commission for the Danube), but those examples are not loated in arid regions, where the pressure on the limited water resources is so much higher. The commission for saving the Aral Sea tries for decades to solve this problem and sinks millions of dollars into this venture, without much results...
So, let's assume that the reduced water availablity will be a given, what are the remaining options?
1. Reduce the overall water demand - by increasing the water use efficiency (water saving technologies, drip irrigation evaporation control, less water demanding crop types, improving the water infrastructure to reduce water losses etc.).
2. Make the most of the available water resources by reusing/recycling the water several times (desalinization, improved waste water treatment, effective grey water management etc.).
A combination of both options will be most successful. Unfortunately, both options require large investments in terms of money (infrastructure, technological know-how and innovation, long-term education) and political agenda (proper implemenatuion of top-down and bottom-up management approaches, shareholder involvement etc.).
It is not an easy way, but it might be the only one - and it can lead to a more sustainable resource management overall (with positive side effects on the ecology, soil fertility and even economic development).
