I am trying to configure a pedestrian detection system using an RBC signal controller so that the pedestrian signal shows a green light only when pedestrians are detected; otherwise, it remains red at all times. However, in my current setup, the green pedestrian signal activates in every cycle, even when no pedestrians are present. I have already turned off the Ped Recall mode, but the issue persists.
Can anyone guide me on how to resolve this issue and configure the system correctly to activate the green signal only upon pedestrian detection?

Dear Dr. Maslov!
May I add? There are strange cases you can see here on ResearchGate concerning LUT University:
Ms. Iuliia Shnai advertises herself as a Master of Science & PhD student at Lappeenranta - Lahti University of Technology (LUT University):
- in reality, she is already a Doctor of Science and quit LUT University more than a year ago....
Similar way Dr. Irina Fiegenbaum advertises herself as a Project Manager at Lappeenranta - Lahti University of Technology:
In reality, she quit LUT many years ago, lives in Spain, and works for TÜV NORD GROUP as a "Senior Manager Digitalisation & Innovation"
I wonder why ResearchGate does not react and check the details provided by the users.

AI-driven anomaly detection systems can significantly enhance real-time threat identification and prevention in distributed networks by leveraging advanced machine learning algorithms and data analysis techniques. Here's how:
  1. Behavioural Analysis: AI can monitor network traffic and user behaviour patterns continuously, identifying deviations from normal behaviour that may indicate potential threats such as malware, phishing attempts, or insider attacks.
  2. Real-Time Detection: Traditional methods often rely on predefined rules or signature-based detection, which can miss new or evolving threats. AI systems, however, can detect anomalies in real-time by analysing patterns and flagging unusual activities as soon as they occur.
  3. Scalability and Adaptability: Distributed networks generate vast amounts of data, which can be overwhelming for human analysts or rule-based systems. AI can process this data at scale, adapting to changes in network architecture or traffic patterns without manual intervention.
  4. Reduced False Positives: AI models can differentiate between legitimate anomalies (e.g., a new software update rollout) and actual threats, reducing the number of false positives and allowing security teams to focus on real issues.
  5. Proactive Threat Prevention: By identifying early indicators of potential attacks, such as unusual login attempts or data transfers, AI systems can trigger preventive measures like isolating affected devices or blocking suspicious IPs before a breach occurs.
  6. Continuous Learning: AI systems can learn from past incidents, refining their detection models to improve accuracy over time. This ability makes them highly effective in evolving threat landscapes, where attackers frequently change tactics.
AI-driven anomaly detection enhances network security by offering faster, more accurate, and scalable solutions for identifying and mitigating threats in real time, ultimately strengthening the resilience of distributed networks.

I am seeking guidance on how to integrate a VANET file, generated using SUMO, which encompasses the road network, vehicles, and routes, with NetSim. Specifically:
What steps are essential for linking this VANET file to NetSim?
Once connected, how can we facilitate communication traffic generation?
Is there compatibility to integrate SUMO files that are produced with the osmWebWizard.py tool?
Relevant answer
Answer
To establish a connection between a VANET file and NetSim, follow these essential steps:
1. Ensure synchronization between SUMO and NetSim by including a <time> </time> tag within the <configuration> section of the SUMO configuration file. Here's an example:
```
<configuration>
<input>
<net-file value="network.net.xml"/>
<route-files value="trips.trips.xml"/>
</input>
<time>
<begin value="0"/>
<end value="100"/>
<step-length value="0.4"/>
</time>
</configuration>
```
2. Import the modified SUMO configuration file into VANET NetSim. NetSim offers an option to load the SUMO configuration file for road simulation.
3. Ensure that Python and Pywin are installed, as they are necessary for the integration of SUMO and NetSim. For additional details, refer to the provided article: https://support.tetcos.com/support/solutions/articles/14000083140-please-explain-the-steps-involved-in-interfacing-sumo-with-netsim-
After importing the sumo file in NetSim, facilitating communication traffic generation is straightforward. Simply add an application between the source and destination devices.
You can refer to the video which explains the same https://youtu.be/fEEqgPAlWfo?feature=shared
NetSim is compatible with integrating SUMO files generated using the osmWebWizard.py tool. This compatibility extends to files created in a manner similar to SUMO configuration files produced by NetEdit (SUMO).

The pedstrains should be counted based on the camera visuals and the data should be evaluated to turn on and off the traffic lights for the pedstrains around.
Relevant answer
Answer
I am unclear whether you mean signals for pedestrian movements need to rely more on pedestrian presence (through camera visuals) rather than having an automated pedestrian phase.
If this is your question, in my experience at signals control, the ped phase is extended based on technology such as Pelican and PUFFIN, where the presence of pedestrians still crossing is detected and the green light extended to allow pedestrians to continue crossing safely.
In some signal programming, the pedestrian phase is triggered with the pressing of the pedestrian button, otherwise the green phase is based on the length of the green required for vehicle movement only (ie not lengthened due to pedestrian crossing). The number of pedestrians, as far as I am aware, is not considered, just the presence and linking of the ped phase with vehicle green phase.

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication refers to the exchange of information between vehicles (V2V), vehicles and infrastructure (V2I), vehicles and pedestrians (V2P), and vehicles and network/cloud (V2N) using wireless communication technologies. The implementation of V2X in autonomous vehicles can significantly improve their safety and efficiency in a connected and intelligent transportation ecosystem in the following ways:
  1. Enhanced Situational Awareness: V2X enables vehicles to communicate with each other and share real-time information, such as position, speed, acceleration, and intentions. This enhances the vehicle's situational awareness and allows it to anticipate and react to potential hazards or critical events proactively.
  2. Intersection Safety: V2X can improve intersection safety by allowing vehicles to exchange data with traffic signals and infrastructure. This enables vehicles to receive traffic light phase information, optimizing speed, and facilitating cooperative maneuvers, such as platooning and intersection priority management.
  3. Pedestrian Safety: V2P communication enables vehicles to detect and communicate with pedestrians carrying V2X-enabled devices, such as smartphones or wearable sensors. This can alert both the vehicle and pedestrians to potential collisions, reducing accidents involving vulnerable road users.
  4. Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC): V2V communication facilitates CACC, enabling vehicles to form platoons and maintain safe and coordinated spacing at high speeds. CACC can enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve fuel efficiency.
  5. Hazard and Road Condition Warnings: V2X enables vehicles to share data about road conditions, weather, and hazardous events with others on the network. This information can be used to warn nearby vehicles and drivers, helping them adjust their driving behavior and avoid potential dangers.
  6. Preemptive Emergency Braking: V2X allows vehicles to receive emergency braking warnings from other connected vehicles or infrastructure, allowing for preemptive actions and reducing the severity of collisions.
  7. Data Sharing for Traffic Management: V2X communication can provide real-time traffic data to traffic management centers, helping optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
  8. Reducing Carbon Emissions: V2X-enabled vehicles can optimize their routes and speeds based on real-time traffic and road conditions, leading to reduced fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Overall, the implementation of V2X communication systems in autonomous vehicles plays a critical role in creating a safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation ecosystem by promoting cooperative, intelligent, and data-driven interactions between vehicles and the surrounding environment.
Relevant answer
Answer
V2X is a technology that enables vehicles to communicate with other vehicles, infrastructure, pedestrians, and networks in a connected transportation system. V2X can improve autonomous vehicle safety and efficiency in several ways, such as:
  • V2X can provide beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) perception for autonomous vehicles, which means they can receive information about the environment and traffic conditions that are not visible to their onboard sensors. For example, V2X can alert autonomous vehicles about potential hazards, such as a jaywalker, a construction site, or a red light ahead.
  • V2X can enable cooperative planning and control for autonomous vehicles, which means they can coordinate their actions with other vehicles and infrastructure to optimize their routes, speeds, and behaviors. For example, V2X can facilitate cooperative platooning, which is a formation of closely spaced vehicles that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
  • V2X can enhance the security and privacy of autonomous vehicles, which means they can protect their data and identity from malicious attacks and unauthorized access. For example, V2X can use encryption, authentication, and verification techniques to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the communication messages.
  • V2X is an emerging technology that has the potential to revolutionize the field of autonomous driving and make it more safe and efficient.

I am trying to build random parameters model with heterogeneity in mean and variance (RPNB-HMV) models for road traffic crashes on a highway in India.
Random parameter Negative Binomial models are the most popular models for assessing unobserved heterogeneity in crash prediction models.
I want to know some free or open-source software like R for fitting such models.
E.g. A sample syntax of the RPNB-HMV model in R software.
Relevant answer
Answer
R is one popular free software for building random parameters models for count data with heterogeneity in mean and variance. R is a powerful programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It has a vast collection of packages specifically designed for various statistical modeling tasks, including count data analysis.
R packages that you can use to build random parameters models for count data:
1. lme4: The lme4 package provides functions for fitting linear mixed-effects models, including models with random parameters. It uses a maximum likelihood estimation approach and supports various model specifications and random effects structures. You can use this package to build random parameters models for count data with heterogeneity in mean and variance.
2. GLMMadaptive: The GLMMadaptive package is specifically designed for fitting generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) with adaptive Gaussian quadrature for efficient estimation. It supports various distributions, including Poisson and negative binomial, which are commonly used for count data. GLMMadaptive allows for modeling heterogeneity in mean and variance, making it suitable for building random parameters models.
3. brms: The brms package provides a flexible interface to fit Bayesian multilevel models using a syntax similar to lme4. It utilizes Stan, a powerful probabilistic programming language, for Bayesian inference. brms allows for specifying complex models with random effects and supports a wide range of count distributions, including zero-inflated and hurdle models.
4. MCMCglmm: The MCMCglmm package is focused on fitting multilevel models using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. It provides a Bayesian framework for estimating random parameters models with different variance components. While it doesn't have built-in support for count data distributions, you can use transformations or link functions to model count outcomes.
These packages offer different approaches and functionalities for building random parameters models for count data in R. They provide flexibility, extensive documentation, and user communities for support. You can install these packages in R using the `install.packages()` function and access their documentation and examples through the R help system.

What is the V2X in 5G?
My friend: Hi Saif, I have a question for you.
Me: Please, go ahead.
My friend: What is V2X?
Me: V2X means a vehicle to everything and as per 3GPP; It has 4 types in 5G which are Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle to Network (V2N), Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle to Pedestrian (V2P).
My friend: Can you give me some examples?
Me: Of course, V2V means the transfer of data directly between vehicles, so vehicles can exchange information to avoid the collision. V2I involves the transfer of data between vehicles and Road Side Units (RSU) and RSU are application servers positioned along the road with built-in Base Station functionality so they can communicate directly with passing vehicles. The RSU is aware of the timing used by nearby traffic signals and this timing is provided to vehicles approaching the signals so they can react appropriately. V2N involves the transfer of data between vehicles and the mobile network, e.g. providing Internet connectivity. V2P involves the transfer of data between vehicles and pedestrians for example for pedestrians to provide warnings to drivers.
My friend: Thanks a lot. You made it clear.
Me: You are most welcomed.

In the case of standing in public and attempting to stop passers-by to complete a short questionnaire, what is your basic approach? In a previous life, I was a commission salesman, so I know how important it is to make the first utterance out of your mouth the right one if you want people to give you even two seconds of their time, so what tends to work best for collecting data for research? A yes-no question? An open-ended question? A statement about the weather? Asking if they have a couple minutes vs avoiding mentioning time? Here have been some of my attempts, but it's hard to gauge which works best with the few attempts I've made:
  1. Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk (about ...)?
  2. Excuse me, what do you think about ...?
  3. How's it going? Hot today, isn't it?
  4. Hi, can you spare three minutes for ...?

Machine learning techniques can greatly enhance anomaly detection in network traffic and improve cybersecurity defenses by leveraging their ability to analyze vast amounts of data and identify patterns that may indicate malicious activity. Here are some ways machine learning can be applied:
1. Feature extraction: Machine learning algorithms can analyze various network traffic features, such as packet size, protocols, header fields, and timings, to identify normal patterns and create a baseline for comparison. Any deviation from this baseline can be flagged as a potential anomaly.
2. Unsupervised anomaly detection: Unsupervised machine learning algorithms, like clustering or dimensionality reduction techniques, can identify outliers or unusual patterns in network traffic without relying on labeled training data.
3. Supervised anomaly detection: Machine learning models can be trained using labeled datasets to classify network traffic as normal or malicious. This requires a training phase where the model learns from known patterns of attacks and then applies that knowledge to detect similar attacks in real-time.
4. Behavior-based detection: Machine learning can develop models that learn the behavior of normal network traffic over time. Any deviation from this learned behavior can be flagged as an anomaly, even if the specific attack hasn't been encountered before.
5. Real-time threat intelligence: By incorporating machine learning with threat intelligence feeds, cybersecurity defenses can benefit from up-to-date information about known threats and attack patterns, enabling faster detection and response.
6. Adaptive defenses: Machine learning models can continuously learn from new data and adapt their detection capabilities to evolving attack techniques, making them more effective in combating emerging threats.
It's important to note that while machine learning can enhance anomaly detection, it's not a foolproof solution. Cybersecurity requires a multi-layered and comprehensive approach that combines machine learning techniques with expert analysis, human oversight, and other security measures.

Answer
The simplest way to do this is to use a File-based approach; this approach does not require any modifications to NetSim code. Your program in MATLAB should write the device position with respect to time in a text file. The format is explained in https://www.tetcos.com/help/v13.3/Technology-Libraries/MANETs.html#file_based_mobility_model
In the devices which you wish to move per MATLAB data, set the mobility model to File-Based Mobility and update the Mobility CSV file with input generated from MATLAB in NetSim's mobility file format. The mobility file is common for all devices in the network. Hence, if you want to introduce mobility in multiple nodes based on data from MATLAB all this information can be put together in the same mobility CSV file which NetSim will read at the simulation start.

There is various figures of supply and demand curves in literature that describe induced demand but they do not correspond to the properties of supply and demand of car travel. My question is related to following subquestions: is supply of car travel dependent or independent on price (i.e. is it a vertical line)? Does shift in supply (increase of capacity) lead to shift of demand curve or move along the curve? Move along the curve (which is in the most of the graphs I have found) means that the demand corresponding to a particular price stays the same but it is certainly not true. There is different demand (traffic volume) with the same level of congestion (price/time).

Does collecting waste at night help to reduce the carbon footprint cause I believe at night there won't be much traffic and mostly the street are always empty.
Relevant answer
Answer
Collecting bins at night instead of during the day may have several benefits, but it may not necessarily reduce the carbon footprint. Here are some possible benefits:
  1. Reduced traffic congestion: Collecting bins at night when there is less traffic on the road can reduce traffic congestion and improve the flow of traffic during the day.
  2. Improved air quality: Collecting bins at night can also reduce air pollution during the day, as there will be fewer vehicles on the road emitting exhaust fumes.
  3. Improved safety: Collecting bins at night can reduce the risk of accidents involving waste collection vehicles and other road users during peak traffic hours.
However, it's worth noting that the carbon footprint of waste collection is primarily determined by the type and efficiency of the collection vehicles used and the distance traveled, rather than the time of day the collection takes place. Additionally, if waste collection at night requires additional lighting or energy consumption, it may negate any potential carbon footprint reductions.

I am working on the control of urban traffic networks. I have the urban traffic volume data that consist of attribute like location, route length, number of vehicles per day, ADT, ADTT and so on. How can I determine trip production or trip completion flow using historical data? The network is a large regional network i.e heterogeneous network, that requires partitioning into homogeneous subregions, the second question is how can I partition the urban traffic networks?
Relevant answer
Answer
To determine trip production and completion flows using historical data of an urban traffic network, you need to collect data on traffic volumes, travel times, and origin-destination patterns. Then, develop a trip matrix using a variety of methods such as the gravity model or entropy-maximizing method. Use this matrix to estimate the total number of trips produced and completed within the study area and time period. Analyze flow patterns of trip production and completion to identify spatial or temporal trends or patterns. Validate the results by comparing them to other sources of data such as travel surveys or traffic counts. It is recommended to consult with an expert in traffic engineering or transportation planning to determine appropriate methods and tools.

We use ECM to predict Dutch yearly traffic kilometers. For year 2020, the covid-policies impact the traffic performance a lot. We need to use data from 1983-2020 to obtain coefficients of independent variables, such as GDP, population, oil price...to estimate traffic kilometers for year 2021 to 2025. Therefore we add a dummy variable to present the covid-policies for year 2020. The question is: should the dummy for both short and long terms or only for short term?

According to Professor Nilsen of the NHH Norwegian School of Economics, ‘the higher the temperature, the lower the power plant’s efficiency – prices therefore rise in line with the temperature’ – see: https://www.nhh.no/en/nhh-bulletin/article-archive/older-articles/2015/april/powerplants-and-climate/
If I visualise the entry and exit to a power station as similar to a Motorway junction, the speed at which heat molecules move forward depends, like that of cars, on the volume of traffic in front of them.
If the road leading to the motorway junction is reasonably empty, the cars (i.e. heat-molecules) can approach the entrance reasonably fast – if it is full, they have to approach more slowly. Similarly, if the motorway is also blocked with slow-moving traffic, the cars (i.e. heat-molecules) entering it are forced to move slowly.
As the speed of the heat-molecules is what causes the rotation of the turbine which creates the electricity, (and the faster the turbine rotates, the more electricity is created) it can be imagined that the turbine works most efficiently when the air ‘upstream’ and ‘downstream’ from it is relatively empty of heat-molecules – i.e. cold.
Is this correct? Please can you tell me how to find the relevant data?
Relevant answer
Answer
I have been modeling the operation and performance of power plants for almost 50 years and have written numerous articles on the subject. These may be found here on RG and also Google. Whether or not there is global warming or how much this might be is a different question but assuming there is, one could use this in the Carnot formula to get some idea of the possible impact on the efficiency of a power plant. That result will be quite small, regardless of whose numbers you choose. Higher prices for electricity are driven by countless other decisions that people make, including; retirement of assets, maintenance, replacement with green options, which green option to use and when, etc. This book (Computer Simulation of Power Systems) will be free tomorrow (10/7) https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asin=B07YJ1JFLS&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_GXSACP1BQPFR8GN1YGKS

Dear All,
I’m planning to conduct a traffic count in the coming days for selected route near my university in Budapest. Currently, I'm attempting to identify the rush hour time along the route. Accordingly, I'm trying to use an approach based on real time information other than the traditional method. Underneath, please see the steps I took so far and kindly share your helpful thoughts:-
  1. I checked the tomtom previous rush hours profiles (2021, 2020 and 2019) for Budapest, which suggests the overall city rush hour to occur on Monday between 7:00 to 8:00A.M.; however, this may not be the reality in the particular route I’m considering in 2022. Therefore, I checked the Traffic Stats function of the TomTom Portal, which offers very limited dates in 2021 for the trial version and information on the speed profile couldn’t help in identifying the rush hour in the route. Therefore, please kindly share your thoughts in identifying the rush hour a selected route?
  2. Aside from the traditional approach, if you can suggest any other reliable method on the subject, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

According to the (UNODC, 2015), illicit drug use is a multi-facet problem which is affects millions of people world-wide. The consumption of illicit drugs has increased over years in the Mauritian population, and it is affecting the population at large, cutting across all age groups and classes, in particular touching the youngsters; presently there is 40% of youngsters aged between 15 and 25 years who consume synthetic drugs in Mauritius (L’Express, 2018). This phenomenon leads to a massive impact to social harm, health issues and economic complications.
The article of Dr. T. Ibrahim and Dr. S. Peerally 2019 sheds light on public health measures that is helpful in tackling the current problem of illicit drug use in the island of Mauritius.
An increase in statistical figures year after year in Mauritius is causing chaos in the population. Institutions like the educational system, the police force and road traffic Management are relentlessly facing real problems like, increased rate of school failures, domestic violence, divorce, road traffic accidents, crime as well as a decrease in the work force of the country (Ibrahim, T. et al. 2019)
The judiciary in Mauritius, relates that from statistics gathered, there is decrease in safety, couple with an increase in criminality rate can precipitate a drop in the amount of tourist and subsequently a drop in the economy of Mauritius. Mauritius depends on the tourist economic as it is one of the main pillars of the island (Ibrahim, T. et al. 2019)
What are the main solutions and alternatives to the combat of Drugs and solutions to eradicate illicit substance in the country ? The Govt and all related institution are merging to only one common problem that is drug.

I'm sure you're still very busy reading all the research papers and articles I referenced in my first reply. Wanted to make sure that I helped you as much as humanly possible. Here's some additional advice.
First, it took me more than 5 minutes to find the paper you refer to by Dr. T. Ibrahim. I find this annoying, but it also doesn't help the scientific processes very much.
This is how you should cite a paper:
Cite as
T. Ibrahim and S. Peerally. (2020). A PUBLIC HEALTH APPROACH TO COMBAT THE PROBLEM OF ILLICIT DRUG USE IN MAURITIUS. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3687444
Also, you forgot to mention keywords like: Safer Use, Drug Policy, Risk Reduction, Public Health, Evidence Based and Harm Reduction. I'm at least assuming you're not PRO HARM right? And that you did more reading than just the articles that only support your opinion, right?
Finally, please be more respectful to other people. Words like 'addiction' are stigmatizing and unhelpful. Consider phrases like 'drug dependent'. Read more about why/how to write more ethically and humane here: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2017/06/11/531931490/change-from-addict-to-person-with-an-addiction-is-long-overdue?t=1646374399799 Or even better, buy the AP Style Book from 2017 or later..
Please learn from the mistakes you made in this post. I'm just trying to give some constructive criticism. Nothing personal.

Hi,
Are there proven and emerging technologies for obtaining road network level:
a) motorcyclist traffic volumes (counts)
b) their speeds,
c) motorcycle classification (from light moped to heavy touring bike)?
We have automatic tube counters which can satisfy the first two needs. These are expensive and cumbersome to use on road network scale. Digital video combined with computer vision is emerging quickly and would meet all three needs. The cost is prohibitive.
What other sources and technologies could do a good job and be cost-effective? What is used in your jurisdiction?

For dealing with traffic complications the authorities do not have a magic wand in their hands. But there is always a possibility of improvement. The suave and proficient implementation for mobility of traffic can be accomplished by making best use of the existing system. The proper sign posts, zebra crossing, footpaths, subways and signals are the tools which can be used to transmute commotion into a smooth and effective mobility. We need to take appropriate traffic management measures after trying out their effects. In order to curb the jeopardy of mishaps caused by the maladministration of traffic we need to contemplate abysmally to this nuisance. Due to obliviousness of the rubrics, rowdiness, desertion and waywardness, the roads are wrenching into muddle. The authorities are wedged in torpidity and have no intimation of how to make traffic more affable. Hardly any zebra crossings are visible in Srinagar city. There are no passable parking facilities. The authorities are decreeing conceitedly that considerable challans are imposed on daily basis. Challans will only result in proliferation of corruption. There should be an obligatory training for the commercial vehicle drivers. Public infringing should be circumvented on the roads, there is need to accentuate the pedestrian crossings. Traffic police need not only check the vehicles but also pedestrian traffic. They should thwart people from crossing roads at high traffic zones. Fine should be levied on the pedestrians who are not using zebra crossings and foot paths provided they exist. Training is a vital contrivance and instructors need to be trained first who should be taught how to train.
It is highly advocated to instil the skills and awareness in the schools and colleges also. It is noticed that the tippers, tata mobiles and other commercial vehicles are driven by minors who do not have any inkling what gaffes they can do on the roads. Rash driving and racing between the commercial vehicles are the causes of accidents. The traffic authorities only know how to do challans, they only punish the drivers who are possessing incomplete documents. They do not prevent the drivers from pledging mistakes on the roads. How many drivers have been penalized for rash driving? Another cause of accidents in Srinagar is teenage bike riders, who are endangering their lives for the sake of stunts that they perform in the cold weather imitating aerobatics. Bikes should have been proscribed in winters in Srinagar a long back, at least for the months of December and January. Another hazard is overloading in commercial vehicles. This has been going on for decades and no one is taking a heed. We have seen passengers boarding and getting down from the commercial vehicles in the middle of the roads. Accidents happen due to the indiscipline created by the commercial vehicle drivers. These drivers know the traffic rules but deliberately break them. In such cases impounding of driver licence for 15 days or 20 days is recommended. The monetary penalty need to be revoked as it only increases corruption. There need to be some firm guidelines for acquiring commercial licence.
The number of vehicles plying on the Srinagar roads has increased to manifold but the roads are the same. So there is a necessity of splaying all the city roads. Foreshortening the density of traffic through hectic plugs is need of the hour, specifically during peak hours. Increasing the number of flyovers and subways will also make the proper traffic flow on the roads. We need to increase the infrastructure facilities for smooth flow of traffic. The train connectivity like metro train should be introduced in the city. One ways should be made the norm throughout. Waterways should be used to conveyance and transport of the goods wherever possible. Traffic police should be deployed at schools and colleges during the peak hours. The commercial drivers need to be educated about their negligence. Shifting of education institutes and government offices to the suburbs is a virtuous alternative.

A great thank to all researchers amongs all of you in the field who kindly accept to share their work with me. However, I would also like to do a thesis in co-supervision between the doctoral school of the 2iE institute in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, and a suitable school / university which has the expertise in the experimentation of positive energy road technologies. My project (my desired theme) consists of designing a thermo-piezoelectric block capable of simultaneously exploiting the mechanical stresses of road traffic, and the heat stored by the roadways, to produce electricity. It will therefore be a question of carrying out modeling and simulation work in order to determine the optimal structure of the block according to road traffic, vehicle weight, sunshine (temperature profile, humidity, etc.), depending on the context, etc. In short, I would like to have advice from you (the researchers community) regarding the best adapted and advanced doctoral school laboratories in these positive energy road technologies, through which I could carry out my research, in collaboration with the doctoral school of the 2iE institute in Ouagadougou.

  • Use CCTV to monitor road conditions
  • Enforce existing road traffic laws
  • Improve perceptions of buses
  • Extend residents’ parking zones
  • Charge for workplace parking

  • Widen roads
  • Narrow roads
  • Add bus lanes
  • Remove bus lanes
  • Build tunnels
  • Build a new ring road
  • Build a light rail network
  • Switch off traffic lights
  • Ban cycling
  • Ban cars from city centres
  • Close through-routes to private vehicles
  • Close car parks
  • Build more car parks
  • Build more park-and-rides
  • Make buses free

I would also be interested in related literature such as studies on train passengers' behavioural changes, methods to assess the benefits of traffic information.
Regards,

Dear Sir/Madam,
I want to estimate the incoming and outgoing traffic volume of a ward area. There are many roads stretches passing through the ward. Can you suggest some way or any effective paper as a reference to count the incoming and outgoing traffic volume for that ward?
Thanking you.

I have a 5-year combined crash data (2013-2017). What representative traffic volume data should I use for crash frequency modeling?

Answer
It is very common to use AADT or ADT for crash frequency modeling. A typical functional form is:
y = exp(a*log(AADT)+ ...+ c)
