Questions related to Tennis
Your rigid system did not allow me to formulate my complete question:
Why are vascular catastrophes more frequent among table tennis players,
than chess or football players?
I am not a physician. However, being a very old man, have several
practical experiences.
For instance, if somebody sudently makes an end of his sportings, then he
is very likely to get ill in some kind of cancer.
Moreover, if you want to live long, doctors and hospitals have to be avoided
as far as it is possible.
Hi
I try to add the journal of my article called "effects of the repeated sprints training in hypoxia on tennis specific performance" it Sports Medicine International Open
Recently, a fashion developed to post preprints on RG or other web media.
As a reminder preprints are manuscripts, thus submitted research that did not underwent the reviewing process.
This is a way of sharing research faster would say some. Indeed, we are unfortunately living in an accelerating world, and science does not stay alongside the road.
However, I see here some reasons to doubt about the possible benefits of posting preprints:
· The benevolent work of the associated Editors and Reviewers is somewhat non-respected, denigrated. It is already sometimes difficult to find some reviewers, and such lack of consideration may lead to really loose the interest for reviewing.
· Ideas or findings in preprints are spread away from their initial scientific domains. For geology (my domain), this may not be a critical problem. But for the medical domain, and overall nowadays, spreading non-quality checked ideas/concepts/results may have some consequences. If the manuscript is rejected, then only the authors are really aware. But the diffusion of the ideas/concepts/results that are rejected is done. This can lead to serious issues.
· There is a risk of plagiarism-related problems. As illustrated by a case raised in a question here on RG, ideas/concepts/results are shared with a community. The manuscript can be rejected or necessitate significant revisions, and then during this period, others may have time to re-bake the ideas/concepts/results of the initial preprint and publish them faster somewhere else. A game of “table tennis prosecution for plagiarism” may then start.
Meetings, conferences are the places to introduce some advances, some “half-baked” ideas (as would have said R. Bathurst), and they should continue to play this role. I think we should let the peer-review process to do its job, but I may be wrong.
Ideas, comments, all welcome!
I am currently investigating cognitive differences between unforced, forced errors and winners in table tennis matches. I find very little literature on the topic.
Hi everyone! I would like to write my bachelor's thesis on a topic that's currently relevant in the sphere of analytics, supply chains or technology (or if it's possible a topic concerning all the three fields of interest). I am a business student, and my program covers anything related to the above mentioned fields.
Here are some examples of themes that I am interested in:
- Sports(tennis, soccer, basketball and football)
- Health and wellness
- Real estate
- Education
- Sneakers
- Food ingredients
- Job market
Ideally, I would love to find a topic that relates to one of these themes. However, I am open to other suggestions as well. As long as it is interesting.
Obviously any kind of suggestions, regarding new topics (broad or specific) or the development of cited ones would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
about tennis stroke detection using wearable sensors data
I'm looking for research related to the rates at which sports teams/players exhibit intra-contest performance reversals. For example, in tennis the player who loses the first set wins the second. Or in the context of a period-based sport, an example would be a team in basketball outscored in the first quarter flipping the tables in the second.
Dear all,
My question is about a study with tennis players. I have two categorical independent variables: skill level (3 levels) and type of stroke (three different strokes). I have one continuous dependent variable (ball speed). I want to compare if there exist differences between strokes and between levels in this variable (ball speed). I have think about Two-Way Mixed ANOVA or simply perform two One-Way's ANOVA, one including the skill level as the independent variable and another including the type of stroke... You think in this case it is interesting studying the interaction between level and type of stroke. I think so but I would like to listen the opinion of an expert... Two-Way Mixed ANOVA is adequate? I have forgotten to say that each player has performed the three different type of strokes.
Thanks very much,
Gabriel
Hello.
I´m looking for information about any Psychometric Test or questionnaires specifically designed to evaluate tennis players.
Could you recommend me somthing?
I have found some values for short and long term shear stress, decay constant and bulk modulus online for the ball. However, i am not sure how to use them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
if I import an empty volume into comsol, like a tennis ball, does the software get solid body then apply a volumetric mesh or not just mesh on shell? and it can be solid by comsol automatically (is there any option)
Hello everyone. I have been working on bistable states of a hemispherical shell cut at a height( like cutting a tennis ball at particular height). I have been able to do static analysis of hyper elastic( neo-hookian) material. But while doing explicit dynamic analysis, the elements distort excessively. Can anyone please provide some guidance?
I am working on sport activity recognition based on wearable sensor data specifically accelerometer and gyroscope. I would appreciate your cooperation if you share such dataset.
I am trying to detect and track tennis ball during a Padel game. I have only one camera ( 30-50 fps) recording video from one end of the court. The ball is small and moving fast. I am using yolo v3 to detect the ball but it fails to detect it most of the time. Is there any approach that can be used in this kind of situation?
Hi
1) I'm trying to calibrate camera from single image of tennis with known world and image coordinates with known image and world points of tennis courts , as well as net and net poles
2) What is the best way to achieve it ?
With matlab , I'm able to perform camera calibration but camera intrinsic and extrinsic parameters are wrong(see below)

Hi, i am working on a University Project where i am trying to design a tuned vibration absorber to fit on the handle of a tennis racket. I understand the theory of selecting the mass and stiffness of the absorber mass and spring, however i am not sure how to physically model this.
What does/would a mass and spring system actually look like? Could it simply just be a steel block fixed to the end of a spring, for example?
Would really appreciate any help!
Real-match video data for Tennis Shot Recognition like THETIS [http://thetis.image.ece.ntua.gr/ ] except that is in front of a basketball court, and too focused on the player.
Dear Sir,
I am Gabriel Delgado, from Granada (south of Spain). I am doing my phD about tennis. I am studying the segment movement sequence using three gyroscopes: one on the trunk, one on the arm and one on the wrist. They record at 128 HZ and the limit of the gyroscope is of 2000 degrees per second. The are firmly attached to the segment with straps and weight 24 grames... I have studied Spot Sciences but I know something about signal processing. But it isn´t enough to achive my objetive... I am detecting peaks using OriginLab software. Before I was doing with Excel (semimanually). I have also try Matlab . I think learning how to use this software is more complicated than using OriginLab (it implement manual peak detection). With OriginLab is faster... I would like to filter the signal to obtain peak values, peak moment aparition, peak integral and other interesting variables (signal assymetry, slope, etc).
In OriginLab there are lot of filter. I have think about three:
-Moving average.
- Savitzky-Golay. I didn´t knew about this filter but when I use it the signal don´t change to much and it maintain local peaks and signal width...
- Clasicc butterwooth filter.
I record series of 20 strokes. The duration of one serie is about one minute. Each player perform 13 series so I have lots of strokes to analyze. I have analyzed 40 players.
What do you recommend me?
Thanks very much,
Gabriel
I would like some reference studies that are using big data applications to improve any aspect related to some team or individual sport (soccer, cricket, tennis etc.)
I'll start a project in tennis rehabilitation and disabled tennis. Therefore, I greatly appreciate it if you could indicate me who are the leading experts in tennis rehabilitation research?
Thank you very much for your attention.
I am training a tennis player who plays very good at the beginning of the match, but in the second set he plays worse, i think its a psychological aspect and I want to work on that with him. His latest results are 6/1 6/4, 6/0 7/5, 4/6 0/6.
Tennis is a sport where athletes generate alot of explosive movements with the dominant side of their bodies so i would like to know a way to calculate how much difference of strenght exists between both sides of their body.
I am currently developing a paper on national representation of the Doha (Qatar) Tennis Open and would like to cross-reference with other studies. As well, I am looking for primary sources specially the World of Tennis annual book from 1992 to 1998. Any support is more than welcome!
I would like to measure fatigue representing the same match to the 2 players face each other. Would carry out a pre post plantar pressure test and evaluate how fatigue affects the plantar pattern. Thanks
Hi everyone, does anyone know where to find normative data according to the 'T'-Drill-Test (Agility) for tennis players? Thanks a lot!
It would be helpful in training regime with collegiate tennis players, both men and women.
I want to evaluate the effects of training in a specific shot.
I am planning to investigate the effect of whole body vibration training on some parameters of tennis players. In this regard maximum isokinetic torque values will be one of the variables for both con/con and ecc/con. I would like to take the measurements from ankle flex/ex, knee flex/ex, shoulder int/ex rotation(neutral and 900 abd), forearm supi/pro, wrist flex/ex. Even though I have found some certain values for some joints I couldn't decide whether I should use the same angular velocity for all joints or different angular velocity values for each joint and what they should be?
Thank you for your critics and recommendation.
