Hello!
Following the completion of the national research on sports club business models, I am looking for collaboration opportunities to conduct research on sports club business models in other countries. I have conducted my research on volleyball clubs however I am not limited to this sport only.
If anyone has the possibility of access to conduct surveys - I am very open to future cooperation. I would also be happy to join an erasmus+ exchange cooperation (e.g. STA).
Best wishes!

This question is in the context of talent development for soccer
Relevant answer
Answer
it may be innate or acquired. Innate talent is born with a person and develops with attention and correct training, and it may reach unexpected levels. As for the acquired talent, it is the result of being affected by the environment, whether the influence was a super star or a player with the presence of ambition and determination, as it achieves the desired results. Messi and Ronaldo are the simplest example

Thomas Bunting argues that "sport is a forum for democratic contestation" (https://theloop.ecpr.eu/sporting-democracy-as-illustrated-by-the-qatar-world-cup/).
What are examples of democracy or democratic contestation in sport?
Relevant answer
Answer
That's a fascinating question. Sport was already a political issue in antiquity, even more so in modern times. Besides the political appropriation of sport by dictators, which has a long tradition, processes of emancipation also take place in sport that take longer elsewhere. Women's tennis is an interesting example. Female players are very political, committed against sexism, racism and war : Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, Elina Svitolina, Iga Swiatek etc. revolt against anti-democratic phenomena and use their notoriety to express solidarity.

Question

Hi, I really need help knowing how to analyse my data as I am lost.
My questionnaire has 24 questions.
The first 22 questions use a 5 point Likert scale.
The first 10 questions are related to motivations to engage in high risk adventure sport (eg: rock climbing, skiing etc). However based on Ewert et al's (2013) study ("Beyond" because its there), motivation is split into 3 constructs. 4 questions for sensation seeking motives, 3 questions for social motives and 3 questions for self-image motives. Then the next 12 questions are to understand willingness to engage in high risk adventure sport.
I also want to test the effect of gender.
In addition, I have two questionnaires - both are the same but they start with different videos to test mortality salience - one video is a control showing nature, the other is a video on death related to coronavirus.
The aim is to test the following hypotheses:
H1: Sensation seeking positively affects (increases) willingness to engage in high-risk adventure sport.
H2: Social position positively affects (increases) willingness to engage in high-risk adventure sport.
H3: Self-image positively affects (increases) willingness to engage in high-risk adventure sport.
And then also to compare the questionnaires, to see if mortality salience influences motivations/willingness to engage.
I have done a pilot test questionnaire and tested the reliability of the 3 motivation constructs and willingness construct. Do I need to do anything else before the proper questionnaire?
Honestly, any advice is appreciated.

Disability sport researchers, please join us in initialing ideas for establishing a society for disability sport studies. I am Tiao, a Ph.D. student in Sport Administration at the University of Houston, my research is housed in disability sport marketing and sponsorship in Adaptive Athletic Lab under Dr. Michael Cottingham. Through almost a decade, the lab/Dr. Cottingham has worked with colleagues from disciplines across the spectrum including medicine, kinesiology, sport management, adaptive physical activity, recreation, economics, communications, and cultural studies programs. In realizing that we often do similar work from different angles and frequently cite each other’s work with the shared passion in building the scholarship in disability sport, a collective need to establish a society for disability sport studies is revealing itself and now we are generating interest/support to make it come true! This society would allow people with the shared context to coordinate together better, to share and disseminate ideas and resources. Whether it is a conference, a journal, or something else entirely, the first step is collecting a list of names of people who might be interested to be involved with this project. So, please take a minute to fill out the survey if you are one of us and share this with people in Disability Sport Research. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/gCPQMsQA

I started a PhD with the topic "Formation of an intellectual property management system in small innovative enterprises".
But now I want to change the topic to more narrow view: I'm working with smaill enterprises in sport area, and this data and expierence are very different. On one hand I have an innovatibe product for the competitions and very poor management and awful business process. On the other hand I have innovations in business process, good management, but no innovations in technology.
At previous steps of my research I studied different types of innovations and their meaning for small businesses. If I'll change the topic to more practical shape I could compare this enterprises and get more usefull information for the development of small businesses. What do you think, colleagues?

I am researching gender bias in sport media have done a survey which involved 8 sets of 4 images of athletes (4 male and 4 female sets), each being followed up with 3 questions. Participants had to select which image they thought best fit the 3 questions. (So i ended up with 8 answers to each of the questions)
I'm struggling with figuring out how to analyse my data? I need to keep my data in terms of 'amount of times this image was chosen', so i need it to be in whole number (image 1,2,3,4) but everything I try gives me the mean answer from 1-4 across ALL the images for the question.
Questions I am trying to answer are:
Was a certain image chosen more often in the female athlete sets than the male athlete sets (and vice versa)?
Did male/female participants differ from eachother in their responses? (was one gender more likely to select one type of image compared to the other gender)
Happy to answer follow up questions. I feel like the answer is simple but I havent done stat analysis in ages and I just cant think of anything.

I'm currently working on a research project where I need to get some data from athletes, coach and sport officials.
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, it is possible. Does that make it acceptable? Depends on the research. You are limited by availability, so you probably need to select a sample you can reach.
Define the population and identify the sample frame. Try to enlarge your sample, which means looking beyond what can be done minimalisticly. Size depends on your research paradigm (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods). Examine the concepts of convenience sampling, stratified, cluster, and snowballing, etc.
Justify your methods, your size, and acknowledge your limitations.

I am looking for any research that would shed some light on the following question: can an athlete professionally train (an endurance sport, e.g. cycling, running) if their sarcoidosis seems to be in remission? We are talking about a really exhaustive training here on a competitive level, not just regular physical exercise.
Relevant answer
Answer
Thank you, but I am specifically after a research into training (aim: improve results), not exercise (aim: stay healthy). What I mean by that is not improving one's QOL, but being able to compete at a professional level. I am aware of the work done by Dutch researchers (among others, Marjolein Drent, Bert Strookappe), but they all refer to average people, not athletes. I am looking for something that examined at least semi-professional sportsmen.

Satyam Majergi - a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern Institute says we have studied the effect of internal team relationships on team sports results. There were two aspects to measure these relationships: the first was a quantitative aspect represented by the number of times two teammates cooperated, and the second was a qualitative aspect that focused on the "prior joint success" among the team members, which helped us to know whether the teamwork succeeded or failed. In other words, we tried to study the chances of success of a team whose members have previous common experiences in the event that they encounter another team that includes highly skilled players.

I was unable to back this with numbers, so maybe it's just my hunch, but most adult Martial Arts practitioners I know started as youngsters, or at least have some experience in a related field. Many others, however, tried and quit.

It sounds like you may be using the tidyverse. If so, I suspect that the syntax you are looking for is handled better by case_when... This allows you to put a boolean, TRUE/FALSE/ statement and then ~ and the output. Just note that if your output includes NA, you will need to match the NA type to the other outputs, so NA_character for the cexample below
data %>%
mutate( new_categorical = case_when( variable < 40 ~ "Category 1",
variable >= 40 & variable < 50 ~ "Category 2",
variable >= 50 ~ "Category 3",
.TRUE ~ NA_character ) )

In general, football is a sport deportation that moves to a large market and related businesses, as well as dealing with public limited companies in football teams also with commercial societies that have several economic agents who have financial information with different interests such as partners, shareholders, investors, sponsors, suppliers, debtors, control agents, among others. In the analysis of cases of some national soccer teams, it is often the case that soccer teams are not in a good business. From there, the question arises as to what situations and conditions are profitable?
Relevant answer
Answer

Everyone is aware of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is limited to a very few subjects.Would It be possible a PISA report including sports and physical education? What the first steps would be in achieving that goal?
Relevant answer
Answer
I think yours is a great idea. Sports and physical education needs to be valued equivalent to normal studies and one of the effective ways to do that is to include it maybe in the PISA report. It will be a good measure of sporting indulgence of all the member countries of PISA....
Its a great idea Daniel Martínez Aguado
One step we could take in that direction could be schools themselves introducing sports and physical education as a subject and working on making sure every child is at least exposed to, if not forced to any of the many sporting activities which can become hobbies for life for many of them!

I'm trying to understand the role of Athletes Commission in a sport governing body. I collected quantitative and qualitative data to get the perspective of two different hierarchical level of participants - current active athletes (Surveys) and members of Athletes Commission - whom are retired athletes(Interviews).
Even though all the participants are athletes (active or retired) - I'm confused if they can be treated as samples from the same population.
Due to this, I got even more confused if my research can be considered "Convergent MM Design - If I can continue analyzing my data separately and than merge them in interpretation by comparing the two different hierarchical perspectives.
I would really appreciate, if anyone with MMR experience can help me regarding this.

Dear Daulina,
Maybe you could try to convert all your data in percentage of something that could make sense for you and analyse using non parametric tests.
I don't believe that there is a test to fit quantitative and qualitive data together and you can't use a mixed model test or a parametric test in your data.

Do not forget the female sports. The gender equality lacks in music, art and the like. Also female foot ball and ice-hockey are taken less seriously than a male running after a foot-ball or a black small round thing on the ice. At least in our country. Also in science the women were supposed to sit at home when the man puts forward his PhD thesis. The protocol is solely elaborated for men. Think about this philosophy that 50% of the global population is discarded from many activities due to male dominans or fear of women being as good as they are.

Better define what you mean by "central fatigue". It can mean different things depending on which tissue you are interested in. If you are interested in central fatigue as in the factor that can affect skeletal muscle force production, the interpolated twitch technique and the central activation ratio measurements are generally considered the gold standards. These are discussed in Shield & Zhou (2004) and Millet et al (2011)

This was the case in Cyprus as from 2013 !. The effects of acute exercise on plasma glutamine concentration appear to be largely dependent on the duration and intensity of exercise. Many studies showed that when there is a deficiency of glutamine or when the amount of glutamine is reduced during increased stress or exercise, the body experiences a suppression of the immune system until glutamine levels are restored through either diet or supplements. So I need your experience about the efficacy of L-glutamine supplement on sport training and athletes?

Hi, I have recently gathered all my data and begining to analyse it using a thematic analysis. when looking at my data, i realised that the answers i recieved for different questions were very similar. Could anyone give me advice on the best way to analyse this and create codes?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Vincent,
Data Analysis method depends on the kind of open-ended data, research methodology/ design and the research questions. In-depth analysis may not be possible if it is a mixed method study where only survey-questionnaire is used which included open-ended questions. Such tool gathers limited qualitative responses, not rich enough to dig themes/sub-themes. In such cases, narrative data can analysed by codes, frequency of codes, and verbatim that compliment quantitative data. Many a time, research question becomes theme and qualitative responses expressed by participants are coded, organized into categories to fetch meaning out of it.
When you plan to analysis question-by-question data, content analysis can be used where you identify the content of the response, develop codes, count frequency of each code and group codes in category. Following computer assisted programs can be useful:
The Coding Analysis Toolkit (or "CAT"): https://cat.texifter.com/
Quantitative Discourse Analysis Package (Qdap)
Hotjar’s open-ended question analysis template: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet s/d/1l4l4sBbqMRfgQEtah5dNnLptKON6M myF2jZOnEJssT0/copy
If you have a rich data sets, then thematic analysis would be appropriate. Thematic Analysis aims to generate themes, which would occur as consistent patterns in the way that people respond to set of questions. Themes can be derived from research questions or pattern emerged from the data. The six steps prescribed by Braun and Clarke (2006) has proposed six steps to carry out a thematic analysis. The six steps are as follows:
1. Familiarising yourself with your data: This step requires the researcher to be actively engaged in the data. While reading your data make notes and jot down early impressions. A comprehensive understanding of the content of the data provides the foundation for the subsequent analysis.
2. Generating initial codes: Once familiar with the data, then start identifying preliminary codes, which are the features of the data that appear interesting and meaningful. These codes are specific than themes, but provide an indication of the context of the conversation.
3. Search themes: The third step in the process is the start of the interpretive analysis of the collated codes. Relevant data extracts are sorted (combined or split) according to overarching themes. The researcher’s thought process should allude to the relationship between codes, subthemes, and themes.
4. Reviewing themes: A review of identified themes focusses on deciding whether to combine, refine, separate, or discard initial themes in two phases: (1) check themes in relation to coded text, (2) check themes for overall data set. This helps generate thematic map. Important to note that the data within themes should cohere together meaningfully yet they should be clear and distinctive.
5. Defining and naming themes: This step involves ‘refining and defining’ the themes and potential sub-themes within the data. Provide theme names and clear working definitions that capture the essence of each theme in a concise and punchy manner. At this point, a unified story of the data needs to emerge from the themes.
6. Producing the report: Finally, transform analysis into an interpretable piece of writing by using vivid and compelling extract examples that relate to the themes, research question, and literature. The report must go beyond a mere description of the themes and portray an analysis supported with empirical evidence that addresses the research question.
Vincent Pere Hope this address your query.
With Best Regards,
Apurva
