In Mexico and in particular at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, we have worked data repositories for research with DSpace and we put both pure data and worked data, that is, both data for research and research data having good acceptance by users . In this sense, we think that institutional repositories are adequate to include all types of data.

If given the option, would you publish your data exclusively in an institutional repository (e.g., associated with your university) or an external repository of your choice (i.e., not government mandated)?
Which would you prefer and why?
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi Racquel, I wonder why you would aim for exclusivity? If properly licensed, ie ideally CC0 or CC-BY, that would not matter. Moreover, a consideration will certainly be why the data is published in the first place (e.g. you'd like to submit a paper and the journal requires that the underlying data is published - a repository that is easy to use and immediately provides a DOI would certainly be a in a good position to be selected).

Context: the data that the system store and handle concern product and production development information within a factory in the discrete manufacturing industry,
In particular, I ask for suggestions on how to perform a literature review/review of practices of data management systems, both generally speaking and/or within the context mentioned above.
Simply put, are any particular key words but "data management system* that suit this research area?
Thank you in advance.

You can conduct key word searches in article data bases. This can be done in a systematic manner. If you are not finding the the type of discussion you are looking for, try different search terms.
You can also try and follow references once you find the type articles you are looking for..

The volume of data/files stored in our personal computers, laptops as well as organizations is increasing rapidly. At certain stage, you have to decide which files/data should be deleted. Therefore, question is, how do you decide this? Please share your knowledge and experience.

Some colleagues told me that they had computer crashes and therefore lost the original data set they used in publications.  Given the high-speed of technological change, perhaps it would be good to have different types of data storage systems, or to share data sets with colleagues to store it at different, sometimes distant, places.

Interest in research data is growing and researchers are being encouraged to have a research data management plan covering research project life and after life. Measuring research impact has traditionally focused on the results in the majority of disciplines but a shift towards measuring the impact of research data means researchers need to have a clear research data storage resource, and a research data management plan that complies with national data laws, research ethics, intellectual property and caters for re-use and re-purpose.
Hence the questions where do you store your research data (raw data and results)? Here are a few research data storage locations I have found:
Personally Controlled storage
  • USB drive,
  • HDD
  • CD ROMs
  • DVDs
Cloud storage
  • DropBox
  • Google Drive
  • Box
  • Microsoft SkyDrive
  • Amazon Cloud
  • SpiderOak
  • Organisation proprietary shared drives/ space or private clouds
Research sharing and networking sites with data storage repository

I think different methods can be used to store research data. Anyone can create a database and store their data in organized way. MS Excel is one of the best data management software for organizing and managing research data because of its compatibility to statistical software such as SAS-STAT, SPSS, etc. Moreover, Dropbox is now on of the best alternatives to store both research data and important documents.
