Hello,
Previously, the editors of the article: Do eco-schools really help implementation of
ESD?: A comparison between eco-school systems of Hungary and Israelת got confused with the spelling of my name and wrote Avid instead of Adiv.
Can I also add this article to the list of my publications?
Thanks

Dear ResearchGate Community,
As I delve deeper into marine biology, I am particularly interested in expanding my knowledge of the taxonomy, ecology, and physiology of algae, with a focus on macroalgae (seaweeds). Unfortunately, my university does not offer a dedicated course on these topics (Phycology). Therefore, I am seeking to educate myself independently.
Could you kindly recommend essential books, guides, scientific papers, or any other academic resources that would help me gain a thorough understanding of marine algae? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello everyone. I found another researcher has wrongly claimed my publications, and I have tried the following suggestions. But I Still can not add my own publications. Could you tell how to do next? Thank you very much.
To resolve this:
1. Go to the publication page by clicking on the publication's title 2. Click the More button at the top right of the page and select Claim authorship - is this your work? from the drop-down list 3. Select the author name you published under, or add if it's not yet appearing 4. Click on the blue Request authorship button.

It’s incredible, given the current state of scientific data and publications, that there are still otherwise respected colleagues who doubt the existence of defense priming in plants. In the biomedical field, it has long been accepted (partly due to copying insights from plant research) and is making significant waves. I recommend skeptics perform a simple experiment: Take two batches of Arabidopsis plants. Infect three leaves of one batch with virulent or avirulent Psm ES4326, while performing a mock inoculation on the other. Three days later, infect 2–3 systemic leaves of both batches with virulent or avirulent Psm ES4326. Two to three hours after the systemic infection, measure the expression of a few defense genes (e.g., FRK1, CASPL4D1) in the systemic leaves—you’ll be amazed. It is the duty of a skeptic to verify a claim rather than dismiss it without examination. That’s what defines a serious scientist.

Since I started my PhD in 2019, this question has been a recurring challenge for me. Now, as a PhD graduate (2023) with a Master’s degree, I am highly motivated, hardworking, and committed to advancing my academic career. I have good language skills, have published several papers in multidisciplinary fields, and am still engaged in various research activities. I have been actively pursuing postdoctoral and research fellowship opportunities, applying to over 100 calls.
A significant hurdle I face is the requirement of securing a host supervisor or institution to apply for these fellowships. To fulfill this, I have sent hundreds of polite emails to professors worldwide, carefully tailoring each one to align with their research interests and including all necessary documents such as my CV, motivation letter, and a proposal synopsis. However, despite my efforts, I have received very few responses.
Before reaching out, I thoroughly review potential supervisors’ publications and research profiles to ensure alignment with their work. I remain persistent, applying and networking without frustration or hesitation. I also recognize that this challenge may not be unique to me but rather a common struggle for many early-career researchers.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights from this community regarding strategies to overcome this barrier.
How can I improve my approach or increase my chances of securing a host? Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Different institutions have varying requirements and expectations for postdoctoral fellowship, in that case i will suggest you send a cold emails to the institution and find out their requirements.

If the research item is yours, please confirm your authorship to add it to your profile. To continue editing the details of this research item, simply delete the DOI you entered."
But if I ignore adding DOI, I will get "You can not claim this publication."
This is because somebody wrongly added my publications onto her profile. In this case, what can I do if I connected her without response?
Thanks!
Relevant answer
Answer
See "Another researcher has claimed my publications" in https://help.researchgate.net/hc/en-us/articles/14292798510993-Authorship for instructions how to correct this. But unlike this help page suggests, most probably it was not the other author himself who wrongly claimed authorship, but ResearchGate's automatic algorithm wrongly identified him as the author and assigned your publication to his profile. This is a frequent problem in ResearchGate in case of similar names.

I am looking for empirical findings and/ or assessments on geothermal heat collectors and their impact on soil microbial communities.
Geothermal heat collectors are installed horizontally at 1.0 to 1.5 metres below the surface of the ground.
Based on an Austrian Housing Research Survey from 2006 ("Wärmepumpen, Erdkollektoren, Garten und Wohnqualität") soil temperature differs by 2 to 6 °C between soil with/without collectors (in the depths of the collectors). The total microbial biomass decreases especially in 0-20 cm soil depth.
I would be very grateful for any advice or recommendations for appropriate publications.
Any findings on soil temperature decrease and soil properties are welcome.
Kind regards
Irabella Fuhrmann
Relevant answer
Answer
I hope this message finds you Irabella Fuhrmann well!
I wanted to share some insights regarding the influence of geothermal heat collectors on soil microbial biomass, which I believe could be quite relevant to this ongoing discussion about sustainable practices in different projects.
Recent studies have shown that the operation of geothermal heat collectors can create localized soil temperature variations that significantly affect microbial activity. For instance, the Austrian Housing Research Survey from 2006 revealed that soils above these collectors can experience temperature differences of 2–6°C, especially during colder months. This temperature shift tends to suppress microbial activity in the upper soil layers, where most biological processes occur, leading to a decrease in microbial biomass. Many microorganisms thrive within specific thermal ranges, and this alteration can disrupt their metabolic efficiency.
Additionally, these temperature changes can lead to shifts in microbial communities, favoring cold-tolerant species and potentially reducing biodiversity. This shift can have cascading effects on essential soil processes, such as organic matter decomposition and nutrient cycling. Moreover, the heat exchange process may influence soil moisture levels, further complicating microbial dynamics and possibly slowing down decomposition rates.
To better understand and address these challenges, I recommend exploring literature from journals like "Soil Biology and Biochemistry" and case studies on the effects of ground-source heat pumps on soil ecology. It would also be beneficial to investigate research from Austrian and German teams focusing on geothermal installations, as they often provide valuable insights into local climatic and soil implications.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. How do you Irabella Fuhrmann think we can design or manage geothermal heat collectors to mitigate any adverse effects on microbial biodiversity and promote sustainable soil health? Looking forward to your insights!

When a patent is granted it is cited by subsequent patent publications as part of the 'state of the art' literature review. It doesn't seem that RG has access to the patent ref databases?
Relevant answer
Answer
ResearchGate (RG) primarily focuses on academic publications, not patents, and doesn't have direct access to patent databases like those managed by the USPTO or EPO. Therefore, patent references might not be automatically integrated into RG profiles. However, researchers can manually upload and link patents to their publications on RG, or cite patents in their articles, but RG itself does not track or include patents in its reference management system. For tracking patent citations, tools like Google Patents or Espacenet are more appropriate.

I'm exploring strategies to optimize the impact and monetization of research by balancing publications with other intellectual property options, such as patents or trademarks. Given that high-quality manuscripts often face publication bias and may not reach top-tier journals, I am particularly interested in approaches that prioritize the inherent value of the research itself over its journal placement. Insights on effective strategies and experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Relevant answer
Answer
To balance publications and intellectual property (IP), researchers should publish open, high-quality research while protecting commercializable innovations through patents. Collaborating with industry can help bridge academic and commercial gaps. Licensing IP offers monetization opportunities without limiting academic freedom. Strategic patenting focuses on breakthrough discoveries with strong commercial potential. Prioritize impactful, quality research to maximize both academic and financial returns.

Dear ResearchGate Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my interest and request more publications focused on wind turbine blade repair and inspection tools, equipment, methodologies, and technologies on ResearchGate.
As someone deeply involved in the wind energy sector, particularly in wind turbine blade maintenance and repair, I have noticed a significant gap in accessible literature and research papers addressing the latest advancements, best practices, and innovative solutions in this critical area.
Given the rapid growth of the wind energy industry globally, there is a pressing need for more scholarly articles, case studies, and technical reports that can contribute to improving the efficiency, sustainability, and safety of wind turbine operations through enhanced blade repair and inspection practices.
I believe that facilitating greater access to research on these topics will benefit professionals like myself and support the broader community of researchers, engineers, and technicians striving to advance the field.
Could you please consider prioritizing and encouraging researchers to publish their findings related to:
  • Tip repair methodologies and techniques
  • Advanced inspection tools and technologies
  • Case studies on successful repair projects
  • Comparative studies on different repair materials and their effectiveness
  • Innovations in preventive maintenance strategies
Your support in promoting and disseminating knowledge in this area would be invaluable to professionals and organizations committed to optimizing wind turbine performance and sustainability.

In recent months, I’ve noticed that my publication (Early lymphocyte levels ..., https://doi.org/10.3389/fimmu.2024.1426635) has generated a significant number of views and downloads, prompting me to reflect on how such interest might influence future citations. I understand that the number of citations often depends on various factors, such as the relevance of the topic or the visibility of the study in relevant channels. In your experience, can a high number of views and downloads shortly after publication actually lead to a higher number of future citations? Or are there other variables that play a more substantial role in driving a publication’s citation rate?
I would be interested to hear your experiences and insights regarding the relationship between audience interest and the subsequent impact of a scientific work.
Relevant answer
Answer
What can be said with decent certainty is that open access has an impact advantage over science behind paywalls. View numbers are substantially higher resulting in higher citation numbers:
Going beyond that, the plain number of views is not necessarily a guarantee that it will be cited at all:
Thus, establishing a causality there probably would require shady argumentations.

Dear Frank The size of atom is about 1,000,000th human hair. Can you imagine the size of "electron'?
FYI, nothing inside of atom never been observed (Proton/neutron electron) to this date, because science believes standard modeling of atom is correct, but to this date everything is just theory.
In the other hand, one or two-dimension of our math cannot describe three-dimension of nature that it is changing constantly.
Additionally, our math does not recognize temperature, pressure, size, colors, taste, smells, character... of nature, while atoms do.
Simply, our universe has unit and that is atom. and it does not work mechanically as you think.

How could I track my publications and citations from July 2024 to October 10, 2024?
Relevant answer
Answer
To track your publications and citations from July 2024 to October 10, 2024, you can use platforms like Google Scholar, Scopus, or ResearchGate, which allow researchers to create profiles and monitor citation counts.
On Google Scholar, set up a profile linked to your published works, and it will automatically track new citations. Scopus provides a more detailed analysis of citations, though it may require institutional access. ResearchGate also allows you to manually upload publications, track citations, and engage with other researchers.
Additionally, tools like ORCID ensure your work is consistently linked to your unique researcher ID across various platforms.

See "A publication in my profile doesn’t belong to me" in https://help.researchgate.net/hc/en-us/articles/14292798510993-Authorship for instructions how to remove this publication from your profile. This is a frequent problem in ResearchGate. ResearchGate's automated algorithm for the identification of authors does not work very precisely.

Nowadays scientific illustration became an integral part of publications. Apart from original research images, graphical abstract is imperative for journal submission. It even receives more attention than the main article. I, as a person with mediocre drawing skills, always fascinated by published graphical abstracts. Recent times, many illustration making softwares came in rescue. Many softwares provide free/ paid services like icon libraries, flow charts, etc., which form the basis for creating illustrations according to one's requirement. Some softwares provide templates, which can be modified by paying subscription. What perplexed me is, Are these templates making us copycats?
For example, a simple google image search resulted in exact matches of nearly more than 50 publications, where a image template was slightly modified. As a person, who used to see the images first, this is really confusing to identify a publication based on its graphical abstract. In essence, these templates will fail to create a hype/curiosity among the audience (as it is initially aimed for) and making all our work similar like "Agent Smith". Is it acceptable?

Lessons from industry for science cyberinfrastructure: Simplicity, scale, and sustainability via SaaS/PaaS
Ian Foster
A version of this paper was published in the Proceedings of SCREAM’15: The Science of Cyberinfrastructure: Research, Experience, Applications and Models, June 16, 2015, Portland, Oregon, USA.
[Abstract Commercial information technology has changed dramatically over the past decade, with profound consequences for both software developers and software consumers. Software-as-aservice (SaaS) enables remote use of powerful capabilities, from accounting and payroll to weather alerts and transporation logistics, that used to require expensive in-house facilities and expertise. Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offerings from cloud providers simplify the development and operation of SaaS software. These developments have slashed costs, reduced barriers to access and entry, and spurred innovation. Science cyberinfrastructure, in contrast, seems stuck in the 20th Century.
Summary With effort and vision, we can ensure that a broad spectrum of software is accessible in this way, greatly simplified due to outsourcing of functionality and sustained by a broad community of subscribers. We will thus promote values we hold dear, such as accessibility, reproducibility, and more money for research.]

RG does send me an email on Thoursdays to indicate how many citations that I have for the particular week. For example, it indicates that I had been cited 15 times last week, but I cannot find the detailed report.
Relevant answer
If you receive weekly citation notifications from ResearchGate but cannot find the detailed report, there are several steps you can take. First, check the email carefully for any links that may direct you to more detailed information on the ResearchGate platform. If that doesn't help, visit your ResearchGate profile and look under the "Stats" section, where detailed citation data, including who cited your work, should be visible. You can also review the "Citations" tab under each of your publications for specifics. Additionally, check your activity feed or notifications on the platform, as citation details may appear there.

I have been a member of Research Gate for years and have had more than 12000 readings and 140 citations ... now I only see four publications, the rest have disappeared, where have they gone?
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Treimer
Relevant answer
Answer
This looks like a temporary problem at ResearchGate. Meanwhile, the 143 publications have been restored (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Wolfgang-Treimer-2/research), and your stats page (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Wolfgang-Treimer-2/stats) indicates 2,872 citations and an h-index of 23/19. I guess the other stats (Reads, Research Interest Score) will also be restored. This may take a few days.

Over the past three years, I have noticed that a considerable number of researchers are publishing more than twenty, thirty, or even forty papers annually. This is a clear indication of academic corruption, and the appropriate response in such cases would be to hold them accountable, not reward them.
What are the suitable procedures to stop such unethical behavior?

I should like that my Research gate publications were also on Google Scholar.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Rob Koller
Perhaps it was my lack of attention, but only now, from your second answer, I understood the most important thing for me: I cannot upload my publications to the GS myself, they are selected from various sources by the search engine of the GS itself. It is unclear to me what determines this selection of publications: for example, about 70 of my works from different years are posted in the RG, of which I only come across a very small number in the GS. Now I understand that I will not be able to transfer the rest of my publications to the GS myself. It's a pity, but what can I do.
Thank you very much for the clarification that is very important for me. I wish you success in your work.

The common methods for protein quantification mentioned in a lot of publications are Bradford assay and BCA. Due to some technical issues, I am searching other methods for protein quantification. I have been using Nanodrop for DNA and RNA quantification for years but never used for protein. There is a method in the Nanodrop for measuring protein concentration called A280. Have anybody out there used this method for protein quantification. I have to use the protein samples for western blot, so it is necessary that I load the right amount of protein in the gel?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Dr. Shaima Raji Abdul Rahiman Sirajudeen,
Nanodrop has various disadvantages namely, the machine is susceptible to contamination, as the sample readings are susceptible to foreign matter. Secondly, there is a lack of sensitivity. It is recommended not to measure samples with concentration below 10ng/mL due to possible inaccurate readings. Lastly, nanodrop is sensitive to interference from a number of compounds which also includes surfactants.
However, if you want to use the Nanopdrop, you will have to wash the detector to avoid residual protein interferance, otherwise the data may be affected. Secondly, take a few blank readings in between measurements. Lastly, use a proper solution for measuring the reference sample.
Using Nanodrop for protein quantification to be used for Western Blot should not be a problem. This is because if you have decided to load a certain amount of protein on the gel which suppose may not be accurate, even then you will be loading the same amount in all the lanes, and so you will still be able to compare across different lanes.
It all depends on the experimental set-up. If your aim is to measure the expression of the protein of interest, it should be fine. But for a more complex set-up where accuracy is required, the quantification of protein by Nanodrop measurement is not recommended.

Malcolm Nobre

See "How do I edit my research item's details?" in https://explore.researchgate.net/display/support/Reviewing%2C+featuring%2C+and+editing+your+research for instructions. However, ResearchGate just recommends to add abstracts, you are not obliged to to do. But it can be indeed useful to add abstracts so that potential readers will know better about the content of your publications. It may help to get more readers.

Question

I have a question about the compensation for authors and reviewers in academic publishing. Authors invest significant time and effort into their research and publications, often receiving only small recognition or promotions after many years based on the publications. When we submit our work to publishers, they monetize it through subscriptions, allowing universities and other institutions to access the articles after buying the subscription. However, authors do not receive any royalties or monetary benefits from this. Similarly, reviewers dedicate their time to ensuring the quality of research without compensation. From writing a research paper to reviewing it, those involved do not receive any financial benefits (except perhaps a certificate for their contribution); all the financial gains go to the publisher. In contrast, authors of successful books can become millionaires. Why don't authors from academic industries receive any financial benefits from publishers?
Relevant answer
Answer
Scientific publishing is a high-profit business, at least for the large publishers. But their financial model does not include rewards for authors and reviewers, otherwise the profit would not be high enough, or the prices for subscriptions and APC should be much higher. Contrary, for open access articles the authors have to pay the publishers (APC). There are non-profit journals published by institutes, academies or societies, but their financial model also does not allow to pay authors and reviewers, because the institutes, academies or societies have to pay for the costs of publication. Relevant answer
Answer
An h-index of 15 means that you have 15 publications with at least 15 citations. To reach an h-index of 16, there have to be 16 publications with at least 16 citations. New publications do not increase the h-index an the short run.

I am writing a paper as a part of my course. I am new in London and was wondering that what publications should look upto?
Relevant answer
Answer
Speak to the librarian at the university or college where you are studying your course, and also mention this to your lecturers on your Masters. Together they can help you learn more about literature searching and specifically what keywords and journals would be the most useful for your paper. You may find other students on the course will appreciate this as they may also be unsure how to find the right papers or other publications to help inform their papers or other work for their Masters.
