What are the main determinants of obtaining a prestigious grant to fund an innovative and necessary for the development of civilization research project?
What are the main determinants of the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to fund an innovative research project, for certain reasons considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization?
Many researchers and scientists strive to obtain for the development of their research work and scientific activity financial support in the framework of grants and financial subsidies from institutions that support the conduct of research work carried out within the framework of colleges, universities and scientific institutes. it is often the case that the possibility of implementing major research projects and conducting scientific activity in the framework of new, developmental topics is determined by the ability to obtain funding for the research work carried out. In the situation of limited financial budgets of universities, scientific public institutions, limited finances within the system of public finances of the state, researchers and scientists look for sources of funding for their research projects in commercially functioning economic entities, companies and enterprises interested in developing specific scientific research and research work. In addition, researchers and scientists seek funding for their research work and scientific activities in foundations set up by non-governmental organizations established to support the development of scientific research within specific fields, scientific disciplines or topics on key problems of the development of civilization. However, among the particularly important sources of funding for specific research projects are financial grants allocated through competitions announced for the implementation of scientific research and research projects on defined scientific topics. In particular countries, regions of the world, in certain types of scientific institutions and research environments, there may be certain main factors determining the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to finance an innovative research project, for certain reasons considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization.
In view of the above, I address the following question to the esteemed community of scientists and researchers:
What are the main determinants of the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to finance an innovative research project that is, for specific reasons, considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization?
What are the main determinants of obtaining a prestigious grant to fund an innovative and necessary for the development of civilization research project?
And what is your opinion on this topic?

Dear Prof. Prokopowicz!
I claim that the theme of a multinational research project must be relevant and has to have a global level of multidimensional system impact. For example, cybersecurity is a top priority in fighting criminal teams, specialists engaged in deploying uncertainty. I am developing a research project idea that could be relevant to the CEE - region including Poland and Hungary. The keywords are as follows: cyber resilience, humanitarian logistics & healthcare supply chains, cyber maturity index, and crisis management capabilities.
Hope we can discuss this idea of mine further and create a forum for the benefit of the EU: Poland, Hungary, etc.. I could introduce you to my mentor CEO, Editor-In-Chief Emeritus Dr. Kenneth David Strang. He is an easy to approach and a nice person to talk to. I do not know if this is a merely coincidence, but over the last number of years doing research, I have seen hundreds of Junior Researchers (either undergrad, master of PhD students) suffering from blood- and energy-suckers coordinators. Perhaps, this is a consequence of multiple factors (such as history of academic world and labor western culture). The fact is, as a Senior Researcher or Project Coordinator, what do you do to avoid or to alleviate mental illness amongst your students?
Relevant answer
Answer
The psychological stability has a great impact on the educational level, because it increases his desire for education, which in turn reflects positively on his comprehension and educational attainment, and vice versa if the student's psychological state is disturbed or has a feeling of anxiety, this will lead to poor concentration and a lack of comprehension in general.

I am currently working on many different research fronts at the same time. I would like to keep track of my advances and relate tasks when various projects --eventually-- overlap. I am currently working with a regular spreadsheet, an ordinary notepad, and Evernote. Nevertheless, I get the sense that this method has reached its full potential and soon will become more a mess than an aid.
So, I was wondering, have anyone worked with a project management tool for research purposes? Which were your experiences? Which options would you recommend?
I am meaning to use it for both personal and group projects. A key feature would be to allow me to keep annotations on preliminary findings, organize tasks, relate to external sources (files, URLs, texts, and such), and also get some kind of indication of project advancement. Evernote does most of the annotation features but lacks an organization function.
I read you, thanks so much for your input!

I agree with @özgür - use most common tools for project management. And Trello can perfectly serve your need - grouping by projects, tasks, timelines, collaboration with your team, you can integrate with callendar or ghant as add-on (only one for free). Very easy to learn if you don't use it yet.

The most important action, in my experience and in my reading, is sustaining change management throughout the change process. Many problems arise when changes are launched without attention to ongoing leadership for change, incorporating new organization members into the change, and periodically revisiting the important question of whether the change is achieving its goal(s).

In the course of any research project, we can get surprises- pleasant or unpleasant. How do you deal with them. Do you think that there is any way we can prevent their appearance? How do you manage to identify or detect research results or byproducts that you weren´t looking for? How do you communicate them to your important people-project members, department heads, stakeholders? Do you do it early-as soon as surprise comes up- or do you "wait and see" what happens?
Relevant answer
Answer
Surprises are typically an indication of learning and knowledge development. They should thus not be avoided. Dont try to avoid them. Expecting or wanting certain answers may mean doing research for the wrong reasons and not really being objective.

Some studies have claimed digitalisation can be the key towards ending issues of disputes on construction projects. What is your take on this, considering that dispute arises from diverse areas of construction project delivery and from different construction participants?
Relevant answer
Answer
Digitization can certainly partially solve some problems. In particular, the coordination of the parties involved is easier. Errors can be detected earlier and solved faster. But digitization will not be the silver bullet for all problems.
But it will certainly contribute to increasing efficiency and reducing costs. I am not the specialist in construction, but I know that a cost reduction of more than 10% (very conservative) is usually achieved in manufacturing industry projects. But it is not just the efficiency increase that has to be considered. If you also integrate the customer with your digitization project, you also have a competitive advantage.

The spatial data available on India- WRIS is in Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC) Projection and WGS84 datum.
but in ArcGIS 10.1, following three are available under
 Projected Coordinate System > Continental > Asia>
1) Asia Lambert conformal conic
2) Asia North Lambert conformal conic
3) Asia South Lambert conformal conic
Which LCC was used by India wris?
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi,
it seems to me that none of the three is the correct one!
LCC of WRIS is based on the central meridian 80 (at least the dataset I checked of WRIS, you'll find thwe information in the metadata), where as has
1) 105
2)  95
3) 125
as central meridian (also the other values differ!)
Thus you have to edit the settings in ArcGIS to create your own projection matching that of WRIS. It's quite easy, as you dont have to change the geodetic datum (WGS84)
Have a nice day

I have downloaded one map from openstreetmap, the file is in .osm format. I converted that to .shp file to work in arcGIS. My aim is to perform the network analysis on that shapefile but, I am getting an error as projected coordinate system is not specified.
  1. How to rectify this problem?
  2. How to find assign the projected coordinate system to that shapefile?
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi,
Can you specify, while adding into the ArcMap as shape file, which unit it is showing? you can check it in the bottom right corner.
If it showing the values in the DD, you need to project the map in the projected coordinate systems.
For the projection, you can use the ArcToolbox (Data Management/Projections and Transformations/ Feature / Project.
You need to add the shapefile and show the input coordinate (if it is not defined) as WGS 1984.prj  from the Geographic Coordinate systems / World and the output coordinate as the  WGS 1984 UTM Zone.... based on you area from Projected Coordinate system /  UTM / WGS 1984.
Hope this will help you to check with your data.
Good luck.

development of innovation is often run as a project and there resource allocation to the new project is problematic in the existing PPM
Relevant answer
Answer
It is important to know first that what kind of innovation is being embedded in project portfolio management. Generally innovation is of 4 types 1- Sustaining: An innovation that does not affect existing PPM. 2- Evolutionary: An innovation that improves a product/ PPM in an existing market in ways that customers are expecting. 3-Revolutionary (discontinuous, radical): An innovation that is unexpected, but nevertheless does not affect existing PPM/ markets.4- Disruptive: An innovation that creates a new PPM/ market by applying a different set of values, which ultimately (and unexpectedly) overtakes an existing PPM/market. What kind of innovation is, will affect the performance accordingly.

Project Manager is essentially responsible for the planning, execution and closing of a project. He is overall accountable for the Project Delivery and to ensure that the key objectives of the project are delievered.

Answer
Dear Esther,
In addition to the response by Alfa, you might also wish to consider Emerald and Elsevier Publisher as they also list a number of Journals specific to ‘Project Management’ such as the ‘International Journal of Project Management’ published by Elsevier; the ‘Built Environment and Project Assets Management’; ‘Engineering Construction and Architectural Management’ also published by Emerald.
Most of the Universities have access to those publishers by paying some kind of fee which would enable Academic Staff free access. However, I’m aware that not all Universities subscribe to that which would pose as problematic when you want to research those areas. Notwithstanding, there are some journals that you could also get through ‘Open Access’. While you have not specified the context of your research, some journals are focused on ‘developing countries’ such as the ‘International Journal of Construction in Developing Countries (JCDC)’ which you could try. I’m attaching one of my articles as previously published under the same journal (JCDC). It’s in the area of ‘risk management’. I’m also attaching another on ‘barriers to risk management’ as published in the ‘International Journal of Construction Management’. While both articles are in the area of ‘risk management’, some studies have demonstrated linkages between ‘RM’ and ‘project performance'. Finally, the 'Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM)' maintains a data of past conference papers, and using the search engine with the appropriate keywords associated with your research area, you will be able to access and download quite a number of good articles. They also list some Journals of which you could at least read the abstracts just to get a feel of the current research.
Another option would be to search through ‘ResearchGate’ as some Authors (including myself) tend to upload their articles which you could easily download.
All the best with your research,
Nicholas
