I am conducting an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using Principal Axis Factoring with Promax rotation for the adaptation and validation of a scale. The scale consists of 60 items, and the original developer suggests five dimensions (although no factor analysis was conducted to establish these five dimensions in the original scale). To determine the number of factors to retain, I have performed the following procedures:
  1. Parallel Analysis(FA) suggests 9 factors.
  2. Theory suggests 5 factors.
  3. The Scree plot suggests 3 factors.
  4. Eigenvalues greater than 1 suggest 19 factors.
Can we evaluate these factor models using additional fit indices available in JASP? Specifically, can we use these fit indices to determine the optimal number of factors to retain in an EFA using the Principal Axis Factoring method? If so, which fit indices (e.g., RMSEA, SRMR, TLI, CFI, and BIC) would be the most accurate for deciding the optimal number of factors to retain?
Relevant answer
Answer
Hello Riya,
if there is a clear theoretical rationale, why do you use EFA at all? I would suggest testing the model with a CFA. And be prepared that the model will drastically fail. But within failure, there is a chance for you to re-build the scale, but this will probably be limited to 2-3 crystal clear indicators of each of the factors (which is absolutely sufficient).
Here are a few papers that may guide you (focusing on published papers, that tested critically measurement models) and failed:

A simple description and schematic ilustration of a cogeneration system based on a HT PEMFC for residential heating and domestic water usage
Relevant answer
Answer
HT PEMFC stands for High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell. It's a type of cogeneration system that generates both electricity and heat using a fuel cell technology. Here's a simplified overview of its working principle:
1. Hydrogen fuel and air are fed into the fuel cell.
2. The hydrogen is split into protons (H+) and electrons (e-) at the anode.
3. The protons pass through the proton exchange membrane (PEM) to the cathode.
4. The electrons travel through an external circuit, generating electricity.
5. At the cathode, the protons and electrons recombine, producing water (H2O) and heat.
6. The heat is recovered and used for various applications, such as water heating, space heating, or industrial processes.
7. The system can also be designed to produce additional electricity using a steam turbine or internal combustion engine, further increasing overall efficiency.
HT PEMFC systems operate at higher temperatures (typically 160-200°C) than traditional PEMFCs, allowing for:
- Improved efficiency
- Higher heat recovery potential
- Increased durability
- Reduced catalyst degradation
These systems are suitable for various applications, including:
- Combined heat and power (CHP) generation
- Industrial processes
- Commercial buildings
- Residential applications
Please note that this is a simplified explanation, and actual systems may have additional components and complexities. If you'd like more details or have specific questions, feel free to ask!

What differences principal betwen DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS and ECONOMICS DEVELOPMENT?
1. The purposed?
2. Indicator of betwen DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS and ECONOMICS DEVELOPMENT.
3. Which importance betwen DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS and ECONOMICS DEVELOPMENT for welfare society.
Relevant answer
Answer
Hello!
I think that:
  • ->Development economics<- is about financial and material flows between market's (both public and private / third sector) activities concerning building infrastructure such as water wells (as a source of clean, affordable, potable water), water & sanitation pipelines / installations; street lamps (increase in safety of public spaces, especially at night) and planting electrical and Internet cable lines (for accommodation- when people will have electricity in their houses and flats, then they may have for example a working TV set, gaming console or a computer with Internet access- this can make people, especially young, stay in their homes longer, thus limiting their opportunities in partaking in antisocial and destructive activities, conduct and behavior, to which impoverished city, rural or suburban environments are prone of); affordable social housing for impoverished people (slum clearance); hygiene training, proper garbage removal from living quarters, vaccination programs; family planing and birth control (avoiding additional unwanted children, which makes financial matters worse in impoverished families), emergency food distributions; providing improvements for agriculture- teaching farmers better agricultural techniques, giving them affordable soil fertilizers and pesticides etc., building schools (teaching children in order for them to become more skilled workers in the future, providing for themselves, their families and communities); providing vocational training for adults (in order to make them find jobs and get out of poverty, thus improving the standards of affected communities); providing impoverished, but self-employed people (such as carpenters) an affordable micro-loans (in order for them to get out of the cycle of reimbursment through labour and cut their dependency on embedded raw materials supplier, so they can develop their businesses as self-sustaining companies.); protecting affected communities from crony financial services (loan sharks for example), from violent and sex crime and from dangerous weapons and drugs (proper policing and public safety enforcing), promote sports (especially squad based games- increases the social cohesion and cooperation values, enhances general health of the population).
  • ->Economics development<- is about making economical situation of a state better-> increase given country's GDP, increase foreign and domestic investment, by making public policies and laws more friendly to direct greenfield / brownfield investment (removing property taxes or setting them at low, fixed level, tax cuts, investment support through subsidies, responsible environmental laws, balanced labour laws etc.) and thus promote industrialization, build big infrastructure in a country- roads, railways, ports (if given contry has access to the sea or have proper river system), build power stations, for example small renewable energy installations such as windmills in order to produce affordable electricity for local population; build mobile phone and wireless Internet relay towers, in order to increase the flow of information, promote activity (including economical one- for example selling one's product on the Internet), eradicate corruption of public officials; fight organised crime on a coordinated, state level, promote country as a tourist destination (if given country has proper things to show to tourists), combat infectious diseases and typical health ailments which are widespread in a state's society, disarm the population (avoiding armed rebellions), maintain proper and healthy balance between civil sector and armed forces (avoiding coups and armed rebellions)-promoting stability of the state.
So:
  1. The purpose of development economics and economics development are to improve economical, and thus social and cultural well-being of citizens of given country.
  2. Development economics concerns itself with improving the economical circumstances- food availability, industrial output and proper labour market and also a safety, health, housing, sanitation, education and entertainment of selected local population- for example the residents of a given slum districts in particular district of the large city in an impoverished country. Economics development concerns itself with improving the economic, and thus social, medical and cultural well-being of the whole state, by enacting appropiate law and public policies.
  3. Development economics and economics development for society's welfare goes hand-in-hand->these activities are co-dependent on each other. A given state, by starting a program of economics development, can enact and / or amend laws which help with economic growth by easing / simplifying / making investment more profitable, and by that increase agricultural and industrial output (together with development economics programs such as vocational training for adults and adolescent education (because they can quickly join the workforce), at first on loan, probably foreign) and thus increasing tax revenue for the state, which in turn can spend that increased tax revenue on development economics programs- by building housing and clearing the slums, building big and small infrastructure (which in itself creates more tax revenue, due to the state's investment funds being spend on materials / labour, and thus, providers of that materials and workers on this investments have more money which can spend on their wants and needs, thus making more taxes for the state- due to taxes paid by providers of the aforementioned parties needs (it is a self-propelling mechanism). This will also make private domestic and profusely foreign investment more feasible (due to better public infrastructure), thus the state will make more tax revenue. Then, it can be spend on loan repayment (the loan that were took for first development economics program->vocational training for adult and adolescents) and on social programs - such as improving health, vaccinations and prophylaxis, which in turn result in more healthy population, which (paradoxically) reduces costs of health in the overall country budget (due to better Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY)- people are healthier, live longer (and thus can work longer) and when they retire because they are old, but are healthy, they will costs the state financial system much less than if they were old and sick or even throughoutly disabled). Later, better economic conditions will result in people buying better, and therefore costlier goods and amenities (more taxes for the state) and will also increase demand on better housing. At that point, private domestic investors should afford such investment without the help of the state. Thus increasing demand on another types of goods and hiring more workers, who spend their money-> now, in the country there is an economic boom- state is more rich and can afford on better public projects (for example on total development economics project which provide proper housing, sanitation, amenities and proper health, social and educational services for the whole population of the state, thus boosting the aforementioned country's economic boom. Now, the reasonable state will make sure to make an improvement on raw materials industry (mining, agriculture, forestry)- by enacting a ban (or at least heavy limitations) on exports of raw materials from the country (the state can now do it even by force (due to having more bargaining power thanks to economic boom and improved financial situation to withstand possible backlash and / or make a public investment if there is one needed in making given raw material at least partially processed status or even semi-finished product). Now, even more reasonable state will enact strong and radical family planning (birth control) edicts, forcefully reducing the fertility of the population, in order to avoid a situation, where there will be a youth bulge (due to greater fertility and less infant mortality (thanks to improvements in housing, sanitation, food supply and better health services)- so many young people that the state's economy will be unable to give employment to them all, thus provoking an appearance of high youth unemployment, which the state will be forced to take care of. And that case is not so easy- the state cannot just kill the surplus youth, so it would be forced to give them welfare support (which will cost a lot). Then, those young people, due to boredom and lack of purpose, will fall into drugs and then into violent crime, and due to the sheer numbers of them thus severely deteriorate the public order and safety, which in turn will severely hamper further economic growth, social mobility and foreign investment and tourism. In order to combat this, the state will be forced to invest a lot of resources into security services (police etc.), which will lead to even more violence and even worse situation and quickly what was achieved with such a beautiful plan and commitment of whole population will be lost.
I hope that my little screed will help you with your assignment :)
Best Regards,
Tomasz Wojciechowski

Transaction costs include all the costs associated with executing and governing a transaction. Since formal financial transactions are recorded in writing, and written records are the principal source of evidence in the case of disputes, people who can't read or write will avoid formal finance unless they receive their money first (as in the case of a loan, or a cash withdrawal).
"A governance structure is usefully thought of ... as an institutional framework in which the integrity of a transaction, or related set of transactions, is decided." [Oliver E Williamson]
When transactions fail to attain integrity, in the sense of a common agreement between the buyer and sell, markets fail. And in the case of microfinance, this means financial exclusion.

If you want to see the distribution of maximum principal strain at a specific time step, choose Max Principal Strain. This is useful for analyzing deformation patterns at a particular point in the simulation. If you're interested in the maximum principal strain a material point ever experiences, regardless of the specific time step, then Strain(t)-Absolute Max Principal might be what you need.

What do you intend to achieve by publishing a project in RG? The platform itself does not support projects.

I am looking for an instrument to study the Sustainable Leadership (Andy Hargreaves's) of school Principals and its effect on Teachers' Productivity. I noticed quite several studies and research papers on the topic but, I am looking for anyone who has access or knowledge, and is willing to share any instrument that I can cite and use in my dissertation.
Thank you very much in advance.
Relevant answer
Answer
let me try to give my thoughts.
First and foremost this topic requires a diverse approach using various instruments. However, note that Sustainable leadership offers a positive school climate . This then leads to improved teacher moral and enhances job satisfaction among teachers and other support staff. In the end you will have better students outcomes.
But the impact/effect has various instruments that can be used.
You can try
Interviews...these may be direct interviews with teachers and pricincipals and other stake holders to ascertain there perception on principals leadership stlye.
You could also try observations on how the principal interacts with teachers and students. This helps you understand the sustainability of his leadership style and strategies employed.
Document analysis is one good instrument. You may look at the mangement meetings minutes, borad meetings minutes, departmental meetings minutes and other policy related documents.
Surveys are a common instrumnets especially when sent to pricincipal, teachers and students. These will give feedback on the perceptions of the principlas leadership style.
Let me also try to look briefly at teachers productivity.
How do you measure their productivity? You may opt to use students achievements. Look at students grades, scores and general performances. These are great indicators of teachers productivity.
I also think classroom observation will tell you more about the teachers productivity. How the students interact with their teachers will easily tell whether the teacher is productive.
You can also simple do students surveys. Students will easily express their feelings of the teachers productivity once given a monitoring and evaluation tool especially at the end of a term or semester.
One more thing.
Do not underestimate the context of the school. Its culture, its values, its perception from the community locally and nationally.
In conclusion understand that sustainable leadership is an on going process. You may not exhaust everything in one single study and research.
Thank you

Regarding the G20 summit, state-issued invitations sent to world leaders using the word “Bharat” have ignited rumours that the government might plan to phase out the English name India. In 1947, when British rule was finally overthrown, India ostensibly had three coexisting names, each with its own history, connotation and legitimacy.
There was India, a name thought to have its origins in Sanskrit, referring to the Indus River that runs through the north of the country.
There was Hindustan, the name used by the Persians, the Greeks, Delhi sultans and the Mughals for hundreds of years to refer to a large stretch of the north and centre of the subcontinent.
Finally there was Bharat, a name that is traced back to an ancient Sanskrit text, the Rig Veda – written around 1500BC – which mentions the Bharata clan as one of the principal tribes occupying an area now known as north India. It is also the name of a legendary king that appears in the Sanskrit epic the Mahabharata, who Hindus claim was the father of the Indian race.(https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/07/india-or-bharat-g20-invitations-throw-up-question-dating-back-centuries)
India, Hindustan or Bharat? What are your thoughts?

I would like to construct principal components from 30+ financial ratios for a predictive model. I would then use logistic regression and support vector machines for the predictions, conditioned on the principal components. I have panel data with T << N. For PCA, the data should be iid. I am concerned that the time series are not independent. I have only 10 years of data, which precludes most time series statistical testing. I have seen several peer-reviewed papers constructing principal components using panel data, but the potential problems with using panel data for PCA are not discussed in the papers. The papers all seem to use the standard PCA approach one would normally use with a cross-section but with panel data. I have researched several means of doing a PCA with time series and a couple that use panel data as one of several examples of a general (usually very complicated) PCA procedure, but nothing seems to "fit the bill" for my standard panel dataset. I would greatly appreciate some direction as to where I might go to look for an adequate procedure or suggestions for a procedure that could possibly work. I am an applied econometrician, and it would be difficult for me to translate a complex procedure into code. So, ideally, I would like to find a procedure for which there is existing code (I use SAS and R). Thanks in advance for any insights provided,

For unequal sample sizes, commonly used test is the Welch's t-test (also known as the unequal variances t-test). Welch's t-test is an adaptation of the independent samples t-test that does not assume equal variances between the groups.
1. Check for Normality and Homogeneity: First, ensure that both groups follow approximately normal distributions. You can use graphical methods (e.g., histograms, Q-Q plots) or statistical tests (e.g., Shapiro-Wilk test) to assess normality. Additionally, test for homogeneity of variances between the groups, for example, using Levene's test.
2. Unequal Sample Sizes: If the sample sizes are unequal, as in your case (12 and 58), you should consider using statistical tests that are robust to unequal sample sizes.
3. Use Welch's t-test: If the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variances are met, despite the unequal sample sizes, you can use Welch's t-test. Welch's t-test adjusts the degrees of freedom and accounts for unequal variances between the groups. It is available in most statistical software packages.
4. Consider Nonparametric Alternatives: If the assumptions of normality and/or homogeneity of variances are not met, or if you prefer to use nonparametric methods, you can consider the Mann-Whitney U test (also known as the Wilcoxon rank-sum test). The Mann-Whitney U test does not assume normality or equal variances and can be used for comparing two groups with unequal sample sizes.
Good luck!!

According to the principal of entropy increase, it's easier to form more disordered crystal strcuture at low temperature. Do I mixed up the concepts of chaos and disorder?
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, you have mixed up the concepts of chaos and disorder. In the context of the principle of entropy increase, disorder refers to the number of ways in which the constituent particles or components of a system can be arranged or distributed. It does not refer to chaos in the sense of unpredictability or randomness.
Entropy is a measure of the number of microstates (microscopic arrangements) that correspond to a given macrostate (observable state) of a system. In general, increasing entropy corresponds to increasing disorder, as there are more ways for the particles to be arranged in a disordered state compared to an ordered state.
At low temperatures, it is typically more favorable for a system to adopt an ordered structure, such as a crystal, because the particles can arrange themselves in a regular and organized manner. As the temperature increases, the system gains more thermal energy, and the particles become more mobile, leading to greater disorder and a decrease in the degree of ordering, which is why many materials melt and lose their crystalline structure at higher temperatures.
Chaos, on the other hand, refers to a complex, unpredictable behavior that can arise in certain dynamic systems, often characterized by sensitivity to initial conditions. Chaos theory is a field of study that deals with such systems, but it is distinct from the concept of disorder as used in the context of entropy.

I am sure this could be true for US education administrators as well, but I hope it is limited and not a dominant practice. In my experience working with many different industries in the US, including education, it has always held true that the true experts in their roles are the people who are hands-on with the work. They are smart, they are problem-solvers, and they are innovators, no matter the job. If course, not all are this way, but most are and they help drive the companies they work for forward toward success. I am sorry that your education system prevents this from happening.

I have a nonnegative square matrix A and a matrix B that is a principal submatrix of A. Is there anything I can say about how the eigenvalues of B are related to the eigenvalues of A? I'm not assuming that A is symmetric here.
-Rich
Relevant answer
Answer
I can propose a hypotesis for positive matrices: the maximal eigenvalue of B is less or equal to the maximal eigenvalue of A (both are real due to Frobenius-Perron theorem). Maybe, the Collatz-Wieland formula will be helpful for proving this (if it is true).

I am conducting an exploratory factor analysis and to determine the number of factors I used a paired analysis.
How can I generate the number of factors correctly in stata? Or other tool?
When using parallel analysis in stata, for example, if you proceed with Principal Axis Factoring all my Eigenvalues from the Parallel Analysis using a Principal Axis Factoring lower than 1. (Suggests in this case to retain all factors)
when out of curiosity, I use principal component factors, or even principal component analysis (I know this is not EFA), it suggests retaining 3 factors (which satisfies me)
Relevant answer
Answer
Hi there,
the most basic question is whether a common factor model (which underlies EFA) is reasonable. Are your indicators of a kind that makes the assumption reasonalbe that they were caused by one or several underlying common causes? How does the correlation matrix looks like?
If a PCA is better than this suggests that the former assumption is unreasonable. This is fine but keep in mind that a PC is a simple composite of the indicator without any surplus meaning.

How weights (WQI) derived from relative loads and eigenvalues associated with water parameters in principal components (PCs) are calculated? I need help
Relevant answer
Answer
At first, calculate the PC of all parameters and sum up the F1 values of selected parameters (normally the highest F1 valued parameters select for WQI operation).
After that, divide each parameter's F1 values by the calculated sum value.
These results are the weight values for the WQI calculation.

RGPPM technique has been successfully expanded towards path planning for the delivery of merchandise during the last-mile. However, it is necessary to include indicators to measure fuel consumption and therefore the amount of carbon emissions. These indicators must be closely related to the carbon footprint caused by gasoline and electric vehicles.
Relevant answer
Answer
According to Noelle Eckley Selin, a variety of different tools exist for calculating the carbon footprints of individuals, businesses, and other organizations. Commonly used methodologies for calculating organizational carbon footprints include the Greenhouse Gas Protocol from the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and ISO 14064, a standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization dealing specifically with greenhouse gas emissions. Several organizations, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Nature Conservancy, and British Petroleum, created carbon calculators on the Internet for individuals. Such calculators allow people to compare their own estimated carbon footprints with the national and world averages.

Gusenbauer & Haddaway (2019) stated that Google Scholar is not appropriate as principal search system. As supplementary system, how should we use Google Scholar in relation to the principal search systems? Under what conditions can we use Google Scholar?
Relevant answer
Answer
I have used Google Scholar a great deal but you have to be discerning in what you choose from whatever search results it provides. As with any article, no matter where you find it, it is necessary to establish scholarly integrity, not necessarily by the number of times the article has been quoted but by assessing what sources have been used and the quality of analysis undertaken. Whilst following pointers from colleagues or supervisors is obviously beneficial, particularly in ensuring you have a strong grounding in established theories and principles, it is also necessary to 'follow your nose' to discover new lines of enquiry which can come from the unlikeliest of quarters.

There are 3 leadership styles - autocratic, authoritarian, transformational with each having about 5 indices. I am the view that the appropriate tool should be the mode or the one that has the highest frequency after transforming each of the 5 indices in each of the 3 leadership styles to one single variable and then find the mode. But there has been diverse opinions that the one that has the highest weighted means will measure this.
Relevant answer
Answer
If your research is a descriptive survey, that is, if there is no dependent variable, whereby only three leadership styles are being investigated as independent variables, then you can use analysis of variance to analyse your data. However, if you are correlating the three leadership styles with dependent variable (performance for instance), then you may want to consider using regression analysis.

I want to find the load at which a beam fails, so I want to plot a graph to be able to predict the failure load
Relevant answer
Failure in a triaxial state is very difficult to predict, that is why there is not a universally applicable method, but rather different failure theories that are suitable for different cases and backed by experimentation. The maximum principal stress failure theory and the von Mises failure theory are two of these failures for ductile materials.
  • The maximum principal stress failure theory (or Rankine) states that failure occurs when maximum or minimum principal stresses reach the yield or ultimate strengths of a material. Simply:
Sigma_1 = Sigma_y, Sigma_u
Sigma_3 = -Sigma_y,-Sigma_u
  • The maximum distortion energy theory (or von Mises stress failure theory) states that yielding occurs then the maximum distortion energy is equal to the distortion energy at yielding in a uniaxial tensile test. Simply:
SQRT((1/2)((Sigma_1-Sigma_2)^2+(Sigma_2-Sigma_3)^2+(Sigma_3-Sigma_1)^2)) = Sigma_y
What this all means is that for S > Max. Principal, you are looking at the largest principal stress.
Whereas S > MISES, you are looking at the equivalent von Mises stress. (The left side of the equation shown up)
Both can be compared to the yield strength of the material for your beam to see if it has failed at the given load.
Based on experience and a plane stress yield surface (image attached), von Mises is more accurate and conservative.

Hello everyone, I applied PCA in python by taking lagged climate indices and then used its resulted two principal components (showing maximum variance) with GLDAS satellite data precipitation values in multiple linear regression to predict monthly precipitation. My data was 38 years monthly data. The correlation between GLDAS and model's predicted precipitation on the training set was 0.50 and on the test set was 0.49.
I wanted to check the model's performance further so I took 22 years monthly TRMM data and calculated PCA on 22 years monthly lagged climate indices. I entered the obtained two PC values in the previous developed multiple linear regression equation and acquired the predicted monthly precipitation. The correlation was calculated between the TRMM and model predicted precipitation which was negative -0.45.
What is the reason that I got negative correlation and what this negative correlation shows?
Relevant answer
Answer
TRMM shows the amount of condensed water in the atmosphere. Not all condensed water falls to the surface of the earth. Water does not always fall on the surface of the earth in the place where the satellite showed. Maybe this is the problem. What is the spatial scale of averaging? This may be important.

I am interested in solving Delayed Differential Equation Systems with Runge-Kutta 4a. Order Method.
Based on the great reply of Dr. Ziaeemehrpost done in https://brian.discourse.group/t/adding-delay-differential-equation-solver/191/3 I did the same tentatives to solve the system used as example
dy0dt = -y0 + y1(t-1) + y1(t-10)
dy1dt = y0 + y1(t-1) - y1
dy2dt = y1 - y1(t-10)
with the RK4 method.
According to the example, I considered the system as a Python function
def model(y, t, n, h):
# dy0 = -y0(t) + y1(t-1) + y1(t-10)
# dy1 = y0(t) + y1(t-1) - y1(t)
# dy2 = y1(t) - y1(t-10)
y0 = -y[n][0] + y[n - int(1/h)][1] + y[n - int(10/h)][1]
y1 = y[n][0] + y[n - int(1/h)][1] - y[n][1]
y2 = y[n][1] - y[n - int(10/h)][1]
return np.asarray([y0, y1, y2])
where h is the integration step used.
The memory of the system was considered constant and equal to the vector (5, 0.1, 1) and declared with the function
def memory(t):
return np.array([5, 0.1, 1]),
and the knowledge of the solutions in the interval [-delay_max, 0] is performing the following Python function:
def history(func, t, y, t_start, delay_max):
for i in range(1,t_start+1):
aux = -(t_start-i)/float(t_start)*delay_max
t = np.vstack((t, aux))
for j in range(len(t)-1):
y_value = func(t[j])
y = np.vstack((y, y_value))
y = y[1::,:]
t = t[0:len(t)-1,:]
set_history = np.hstack((t,y))
return_history = []
for i in range(t_start):
return_history.append(set_history[i])
return return_history
This function returns the previous knowledge of the system in the interval [-10, 0] considering the discretization of this interval with step h, the same used in the integration with RK4.
My doubt is about how I must declare the values k2, k3, and k4 in the principal looping of the RK4 considering the respective increments k1/2, k2/2, and k3. I wrote the following function but I do not know how to declare these increments in my code:
# Numeric Solution
# Runge Kutta 4a. Order
def rk4(func, set_history, tf, h):
# Initial Time
ti = set_history[-1][0] + h
# Interactions to Looping of RK4 Method
iterations = int(np.floor((tf-ti)/h))
# Dimension of System (Time is Dimension, Too)
r = len(set_history)
dim = len(set_history[0])
# Inicialization of Numeric Solution Matrix yy
yy = np.vstack((set_history, np.zeros([iterations+1,dim])))
for i in range(r, r + iterations+1):
t_actual = yy[i-1,0]+h
k1 = h * np.asarray(func(set_history, set_history[i-1][0], i-1, h))
k2 = h * np.asarray(func(set_history, set_history[i-1][0], i-1, h))
k3 = h * np.asarray(func(set_history, set_history[i-1][0], i-1, h))
k4 = h * np.asarray(func(set_history, set_history[i-1][0], i-1, h))
aux = set_history[i-1][1::] + (k1 + 2*(k2 + k3) + k4) / 6
matrix = np.hstack((t_actual, aux))
set_history.append(matrix)
solution = set_history[r::,:]
return solution
Someone can help me? How must I declare the quantities k1, k2, k3, and k4 correctly?
Regards,
Magrini.

Answer
Your ODE is rather simple (except for the delay) and RK4 is easy to implement. The biggest challenge in solving your equation is the time lag, which is a bookkeeping task (i.e., keeping track of the previous solution in an array and accessing it as needed). The predicament is that you're trying to do this in Python, which is a huge hassle and waste of time. My advice after 50 years of writing software is: learn C and ditch Python. I have solved your problem in C. You weren't specific about the initial conditions, so I made up something (y=5 for t<10). You will need to put the initial conditions into the function InitializeSolution(). I have attached the code and also the results for the initial conditions that I assumed. If you don't have a C compiler, I suggest Digital Mars (it's free) or Visual Studio (sort of free). As a last resort, you might use Gnu's gcc, if you're stuck with an O/S other than Windows.

Dear all,
I performed a PCA analysis on a Likert scale with 5 questions which ordinal responses can be 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 (from strongly disagree to strongly agree). I did it in two independent samples. I obtained only one principal component in each group. Now I want to compare the principal component in each group. If my data were continuous, I know that the Principal components are continuous. However, as my Likert scale does not have continuous data (It can't), I would like to know if the resulting principal components should be considered continuous data or something else.
Of course, this is important to determine which test(s) should I use to determine if there is association between the two groups that I want to compare.
Very much thank you,
Nicole
Relevant answer
Answer
Hello Nicole,
If your goal is to compare groups on their scores on some common factor or component, then your options are:
1. Re-estimate the component/factor with both groups' data sets combined. Save the component/factor scores, then compare. As they stand, if you wish to be conservative and consider the scores as ordinal, then a test such as Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon will work.
2. Adopt a scaling (IRT) method, as suggested by Ronán Michael Conroy . These have the ability to take graded/ordered response scale items and yield an overall score that is defensibly interval strength.
3. Consider revising the component/factor analysis by starting with polychoric correlations instead of Pearson correlations. That should result in defensibly interval scores on the component/factor.
For all three approaches, a number of comparison tests could be chosen. Let me suggest these non-parametric options: (a) Cliff's dominance statistic (proportion of times a randomly selected case from set "A" has a score exceeding that of a randomly selected case from set "B", after subtracting the proportion of times that a case "B" score > a case "A" score); (b) an exact/permutation test (for which sample means or medians would be a sufficient statistic; (c) Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test.
Finally, though you didn't ask, it's probably wiser to use common factor analysis, with either principal axis factor or maximum likelihood extraction than to use principal components analysis. Measures of human judgment / perception / opinion / sentiment simply do not live up to the assumptions made for PCA regarding the scores on the variables (e.g., no measurement error; no specific or unique variance).
Good luck with your work.

I can understand the importance of having an outcome assessor independent and blinded of intervention for a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT), but when conducting a Case Study investigating a new Clinical Health intervention is it also important to NOT allow the principal researcher to carry out baseline and post-intervention outcome scales/measures?
My understanding is that the principal objective of a Case Study is to establish the feasibility of a new intervention rather than effectiveness and more importantly ensure that the participant does not experience any adverse effects. Because of this, the significance of any non-feasibility scales are minimal so for this reason would it be a poor design for the principal researcher to undertake the outcome scales/measures?

The researcher intends to find out whether the following managerial skills - Communication, decision-making, and supervisory skills correlate with school effectiveness. School effectiveness was measured as a product of teachers', students' and administrators' effectiveness. For considering teachers, students, and principals themselves in the dependent variable, the researcher states that the "population of his study comprised 810 school leaders (270 principals and 540 principals), 2,5763 teachers and 13,890 students. From this population, 10 per cent each of principals, teachers and students were selected at random for the study. Is there anything wrong with the population? A lecturer who is not even the supervisor said it's wrong, but I felt he was right since teachers, students and school administrators are taking part in the study. The lecturer said the population has to be unitary, and as such, all the secondary schools should rather be used.
The idea of this lecturer about population choice has affected many students' theses. Thus, I decided to bring this topic here up to get the opinions of other experts regarding the choice of population.

Answer
Water budget is determined by both hydrological and thermal processes, characteristics often represented by so called ‘‘drought indices’’ to manifest the actual hydrological conditions in a single number. According to their characteristics, drought indices can be sorted as: precipitation indices, water budget indices, soil moisture indices, hydrological and various aridity indices, all of them meant to indicate from different points of view moisture conditions, deficiency or surplus of water, for a given area. One of the most common indices is the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), introduced by Palmer (1965) to simulate moisture content of the soil month by month and to compare its monthly anomalies at regions having totally different climate and seasons. I don't believe that MBSR and MBCT rely on the cognitive model, in that there is no underlying assumption that changing cognitions is necessary for change. Both are more experiential, relying on the client's curiosity and openness to come to their own insight about their relationships with their internal states. MBCT was designed as a relapse-prevention extension of CBT, but largely focuses on decentering the client from their thoughts, as opposed to actively changing them. So I wouldn't say that it's intentionally functional contextualist, but more so is an exploration of what works given research on the differential activation hypothesis and theories for why rumination and relapse occur in depression.

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a multivariate statistical technique to reduce the volume of the large dataset with minimum loss of information and identified the major components along with which maximum variance associated. Generally, PCA was performed using varimax rotation with Kaiser Normalization. The output of the analysis is expressed in terms of Principal Components, their % variance, and factor loading of the variable. In practice, the values of factor loading greater than 0.6 are considered as significant variables. Many times, the values of factor loading are lesser than 0.4. What does it mean? How the result to be interpreted in this case having lower factor loading?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Sunil,
I wonder where did you get this 0.4 from? I've found the statements saying that if factor loading is close to one its impact is weak. However, its maximum is at 1.
I wonder also why do you dig factor loading but not the % of variance explained by the reduced number of types of data? As the aim is to reduce it, the maximum variance - after the reduction - should be analysed the most.

Also, if there is some reason not to use regression analysis just setting up the data in a scatter diagram would offer some insight into the relationship.

When searching "cobalt" in google, some of the results that appears are azurite minerals. I know that cobalt production mainly comes as a byproduct from copper or nickel production but haven't found any direct relation between azurite-cobalt. So, my question is, what copper or nickel mineral is the principal for cobalt production, if there is any?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Marck Anthony Alava Galarza
Various cobalt bearing minerals including cobaltite (CoAsS), carrollite (Cu(Co.Ni)2S4), and linnaeite (Co3S4). These are often associated with copper minerals and pyrite and pyrrhotite iron sulphides. Two different flotation separation strategies are used. A differential copper-cobalt flotation separation which begins with selective copper flotation by raising the slurry pH to 10 with lime and using a dithiophosphate copper collector. The tails produced in the first differential flotation step is followed by a pyrite and pyrrhotite flotation stage using xanthate and MBT, leaving the cobalt minerals in the flotation cell tails.

One of the principal objects of restorative justice is focussing the restoration. Although debate about the subject matters of restoration is not recent, it has been continuing since 1970s. What is your thought about it?
Relevant answer
Answer
Thanks Michael for your great answer. I also think restoration in the criminal justice indicates restoring the victim, offender and the community. The restorative justice puts its focus on victim, offender and community, whereas the prevalent retributive justice gives least focus on the victims. In restorative process, the victim is restored through healing his/her wounds, alternatively, the offender is restored by giving them an opportunity to understand their wrongs, ensuring their rehabilitation for rectification, facilitating to get pardon, helping to feel remorse. In respect of the USA, various restorative models, such as victim offender mediation, conferencing, reparation boards, peacemaking circle are in practice, but VOM are mostly used in almost 32 states. However, thanks again for your answer.

Let’s suppose, how does the principal of secondary schools manage teaching resources for quality learning in his/her school?– is the basic research query and I wish to look at how the practice evolved over the past 20 years. What could be its steps, any helpful software, techniques, or any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

To conduct meta analyses, several steps and analyses have to be performed as well as what types of questions to be investigated. Then you have to go for analysis for instance, STATA, Covidence, R package etc. However, in this issue, plethora of research articles have published previously. Best.

Hello all,
Early next year I'm planning to evaluate a training for school principals. I will collect data from school principals with experience (what that entails is to be defined, but they should be in the field for X amount of years), who have been in that program. I'm currently thinking of a questionnaire (big sample), followed by interviews with some interesting individuals (also to be defined). At the moment I'm not sure yet how I would do that or what specifically I would ask, so any ideas are welcome. If you think of something else than a questionnaire or an interview, please do share. I am wide open to suggestions.
Relevant answer
Answer
I think you need to have specific questions that will help you get the informations you need to.
I was just thinking if I got you right you want to evaluate a training for school principals. Surely the training is already happening and has specific objectives. So you will need a survey where you can assess first the quality of the training, whether the objectives were met and if the participants (principals) are able to easily apply what to learnt. Did the training improved their skills or leadership some how?

Dear colleagues,
I am conducting my EFA in SPSS, using principal axis factoring and oblique rotation.
Is there any rule of thumb when a certain percentage of nonredundant residuals is too much?
I would be greatful if you could point out some articles/sources to me where this issues has been discussed or even solved.
Many thanks
Marcel

Answer
Marcel Grieger I was struggling with a kinda similar problem. First of all, a good model should have low residual values (<0.05). You can compare the Reproduced Correlation Matrix with the original Correlation Coefficients Matrix. If the model is a good fit, you should expect small residuals between the two matrices (<0.05). As a rule of thumb, 'a model that is a good fit will have less than 50% of the non-redundant residuals with absolute values that are greater than .05'. You can see research following this rule of thumb in Mahmud et al 2018 or Broen et al 2015. However, sometimes this rule of thumb is violated when attempts at different factor structures do not significantly change the number of residuals (Williams et al 2012). I would suggest you to stick to the lowest possible % of residual values.

While creating a wealth index using the household asset (dichotomized ), Can we take the second principal component (comp 2) if it has more relative positive eigenvectors (For example: as shown in the attached picture)? If yes, which is the best reference to quote. Thank you

Hussain Ali thank you very much for the answer. It is great to help. In some point, I get practical confusion. In above-attached file, If we see in PC1 variables such as motorbike, refrigerator, vehicle, etc. have a negative magnitude. So, in the case of counting wealth, it will lead to the opposite direction (i.e those who have a vehicle, refrigerator, motorbike etc. will contribute to poor wealth). Therefore from the practical point of view, I thought PC2 will be good. :)

I am using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to create an index required for my research. My question is how I should create a single index by using the retained principal components calculated through PCA. For instance, I decided to retain 3 principal components after using PCA and I computed scores for these 3 principal components. What is the appropriate ways to create, for each respondent, a single index out of these 3 scores?
• Is it relevant to add the 3 computed scores to have a composite value?
• Or to average the 3 scores to have such a value? • Or should I just keep the first principal component (the strongest) only and use its score as the index?
Alternatively, one could use Factor Analysis (FA) but the same question remains: how to create a single or overall index based on several factor scores?
Any advice, or documentation will do.
Relevant answer
Answer
Hello Mangalani,
You seek an index score, but for what purpose? How best to combine scores depends on the intended use of the linear composite.
In general, the individual component score that yields the largest variance for a sample is the one that will have the most impact in separating cases. That's one possible use.
If the goal is to determine an index that best corresponds with some external variable, then multiple regression could be useful for identifying weights.
That doesn't cover all of the possibilities, of course. Perhaps you could elaborate on your aims for the proposed index.
Do recall that component scores among your chosen three-component solution will be uncorrelated with one another unless you rotated the resultant solution with an oblique rotation (such as promax or oblimin).
Good luck with your work.

I am wondering whether there is any relevant literature on how to best estimate the sample size of a hypothetical clinical trial with various treatment effects (10%, 20%, 30%) based on the scores of the first principal component in a PCA. The scores summarize changes of various markers over time which are standardised and which are associated with clinical outcome measures.
Many thanks in advance

I am not familiar with a principal component analyses to be used for sample size estimations. One normally calculates sample sizes based on power which is related to the likelihood to commit a type II error, but I am interested to hear what other people will post in relation to your question. .
