Res. Sir/ Madam,
I am working as Scientist (Horticulture) and my research focus is improvement of tropical and semi arid fruits. I am also interested in working out role of nutrients in fruit based cropping systems.
Looking for collaborators from the field of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Agricultural Statistics, Soil Science and Agronomy.
Currently working on Genetic analysis for fruit traits in Jamun (Indian Blackberry).

The higher incidence of rotting in large bulbs may be attributed to higher water content. Moreover, the sprouting of larger sized bulbs in storage may also be attributed to the late time of harvesting. The colour of the outer scale is correlated with the storability of the onion. The onion bulbs with high pyruvic acid content have better storage quality. The red onion varieties have higher phenolic compounds than the white varieties, which protect them against pathogenic infection, and thus have a better keeping quality. Light red-coloured onions were found to have a lower respiration rate while comparatively higher respiration rate was found in dark red and white-coloured varieties. These show that colour and bulb size likely have an influence on storability/ shelflife of onion, however, it seems also other factors associated with postharvest and storage are attributing the storability of onion bulbs.

if subscriptions significantly impacted on impact factor, it is worthless to be specific in subject specific journal. For example, better to target horticulture journal rather viticulture or pomology.

Can anybody suggest a reliable method to estimate the age of ancient olive trees i.e. >500 or even 1500 years old? Radio-chronology is out of question due to the deterioration of the most aged tissues.

Dear Dr Peter Roussos, the methodolgy I suggested four years ago (see above) is now bearing fruit and the first of a series of papers on ageing monumental specimens of yew will soon be forthcoming. It is with Fellows of Brunel and Harvard Forest for revision right now. There are a few surprises, and the current methodology which yields a parabolic age/girth curve based on constant annual increment derived from John White's Forestry Commission note 250 (e.g. Tabbush and White 2006) is overturned. I believe that the method may be transferrable to monumental olives. Key is measure/re-measure data in order to inform and verify theoretical work. This ageing conundrum cannot be solved using mathematics and theory only. I will alert you when publication is complete. Keep measuring and re-measuring to the highest accuracy possible.

If the present date palm yields are compared to 1961, one can easily reach at the conclusion that these either remained stagnating during last five decades or decrease compared to benchmark level, except a few countries like Egypt and Iran. The increase in production was mainly due to increase in harvested area and not increase in yields, except a few countries. The major area (Arab countries) where about 75 % of dates production is obtained is showing this situation (except Egypt). Surprisingly, trends in USA (though not a major date palm growing country) are also the same. Yield data for last five decades can be taken as a proof (Please refer to my paper "Global dilemma of stagnating/decreasing date palm yields during the last five decades" uploaded on ResearchGate website for ready reference). How we can improve this situation?

Local clones, which are exclusively of seed-origin,  poor drainage and aeration, waterlogging in heavy soils are some of the reasons. Climate change effect on flowering and fruiting may be one of the reasons. Commercial date production requires artificial pollination which ensures good fertilization and overcomes disadvantages of dichogamy (different opening time for male and female spathes) and also reduces the number of male palms (with no fruit production).

Yes , you are right Daniel.o depends on the kind of isomers that are exposed to such temperature, cis or trans form , however there is usually no difference with regard to their comparative susceptibility.

Thank you for your answers. Actually, I rescued immature embryos after 2x X4x hybridization and obtained some seedlings. Now I would like to confirm that my new hybrid offspring are polyembryony or Monoembryony. Because, I can not wait until the fruit bearing stages of new hybrids.

For the last three years, my research has dealt with strawberries in Southern Rajasthan (India). Due to fungal diseases, however, plant survival is less than 25%. So, I regularly drenched the plants with bavistin, SAAF and DM 45 on a weekly interval, but plant survival did not improve. Can anyone provide any suggestions on how to control plant growth and survival?

I can only support the answers of my predecessors that you will need to identify the causal disease first, before you can find an effective control. To my knowledge there is a very good compendium of strawberry diseases from APS press. Generally you should check your cultivation condition and propagation material, before using plant protection products, otherwise you will not achive sustainable control. After you have found the cause you should be able to find adequate advice and effective control.
