Biodiversity is diverse in virtually unlimited degree, which results from the essence of processes of evolution of species, filet lines and entire ecosystems. It is thanks to the millions of years of evolutionary processes on Earth that there are so many different natural and highly diverse ecosystems in which different species of flora, fauna, fungi and microorganisms adapt to life in different and very diverse geographical and climatic environments.
The largest biodiversity of ecosystems and species functions in natural environmental environments in which ecosystems have evolved without human impact through millions of years of climatic and geographical conditions enabling the development of various life forms. These types of high biodiversity sites can be found in unpolluted rainforest ecosystems in tropical forests, in temperate climates and in coral reefs.
Unfortunately, human civilization activity contributes to the successive and accelerating process of biodiversity reduction by dying out species of living organisms. The areas of natural natural ecosystems are decreasing, including those in which the greatest biodiversity is diagnosed, such as the rainforests of the Amazon. The protection of naturalistic ecosystems and thus the protection of the planet's biodiversity is the most important challenge for mankind in the 21st century.
Do you agree with my opinion on this matter?
In view of the above, I am asking you the following question:
What do you think is the importance of biodiversity in natural ecosystems?

Different conceptual frameworks [e.g. Multi-Level Perspective, Strategic Niche Management, Transition Management, Innovation Systems, Techno–economic paradigm, Socio–metabolic transitions] have been used to analyse and understand sustainability transitions but mainly in other sectors and systems (e.g. energy, mobility). However, it seems that the use of sustainability transitions frameworks in the agro-food arena is rather limited and results are scattered. This question aims to fill in this gap by gathering experiences regarding the use of integrative transition frameworks in different socio-economic and bio-physical contexts.
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes I agree, transitions and shifts in other stages of the food chain (cf. processing, distribution, consumption) need to be considered together. A transition in India has also been observed. India is second largest producer of food grains, fruits and vegetable crops. Record food grains of 285 million ton produced during 2017-18 and per capita availability of foods have increased from 169.8 kg/year (2015) to 176.8 kg/year (2018) but consumption of foodgrains have decreased to 147kg/year because of increased awareness for nutritious food and paying capacity people are demanding different kinds of foods fruits, vegetables, milk, chicken, meat, fish etc. It is also an example of transistion and shifts.

One of the problems at the moment is that, despite the high cost of conducting academic research projects, these projects remain unused in the shelves of libraries. How should this problem be solved?
I want to know what issues should be considered in designing and implementing these projects in order to increase the efficiency of academic research projects and their coordination with the needs of the community? Do you have any scientific resources in this regard?
Relevant answer
Answer
How are you thinking of 'the community'?  Are they an audience who might be interested in what you are researching, a population who might be directly affected by your findings immediately or in the long term, a source of data for your research who will therefore be entitled to know the outcomes?  There is a lot of literature on how knowledge can be co-constructed with communities if that is your aim, but obviously it requires a very different approach to research.  Think about how much power you want to give other people over your work - for example, if a group disagreed with your interpretation of a focus group discussion, would you agree not to publish it but only to publish an amended version they approved?
It would help to know your discipline - if you want to co-construct knowledge or have  visible impact in a limited timescale, it's probably easier for a social scientist, local historian or public artist than for a physicist (though still not easy or direct!)  How long are you prepared to wait for your research to become effective?
Most people who work in this area think that a first step is getting the community themselves to identify the issues, so your research question and methodology emerge from their view.  This may well be the key to finding research impacts which are not externally imposed, and therefore likely to be effective - but they require you to relinquish much of the agenda setting to others.  Risky and no guarantee of success, but hugely satisfying when it works!

Concise definition of economic growth and economic development.
Interrelationship between the two concept in the context of the developing economies.
Relevant answer
Answer
Economic growth is different from the economic development. They are measured with indicators used in development economics. The economic growth can be measued with the variation in the Gross Domesctic Product (GDP), the Gross National Product (GNP) and/or the National Revenue. Efficiently, economic development growth is measured with the variation in the Human Development Indicator (or Index) (HDI). The economic development can also be measured with the poverty indexes (P0, P1 and P2), and the inequality indexes, such as the Gini Index.

May i please know what does the term Quaternary signify in 'Quaternary Deposits' i would also like to know if it has similar meaning in case of 'Quaternary Landslides'.
Relevant answer
Answer
The history of the term "Quaternary" is well explained above by Mr. Dill. So in an old way of earth creation classification, Quaternary was the fourth phase, and maybe the etymology is from Italian language "Quarto".
Arduino was firs to use it, when studying the geological cross section of north Italia observed four kind of rocks, which began from ultramaffic rocks (primary) to recent unconsolidated depositions (fourth or quarto).
The acceptance of this concept was very difficult, but at the end the Quaternary is the only therm survived by the fourth class classification.
Today is accepted than Quaternary begin 2.6 million years before now, and is subdivided into Pleistocene -2.6Ma to 11.7 ka, and Holocene from 11.7Ka until present.
The main characteristic is the appearance of Homo Sapiens during this geological Period and the glacial inter-glacial oscillation during Pleistocene (four significant).
Quaternary deposition are deposition that belong to this period, younger of which belong to Holocene. Quaternary landslides is a therm that I encounter for the first time, but I believe they are actual and active landslides and that this must be the correct terminology. I don't believe a landslide can be collected with an entire geological period, as we can do it with tectonic activity.
But it must be in the concrete framework. if they are some landslides, created by sea level rise during the Holocene transgression, you can use a term like Holocene landslides, but the correctness of this term is to be evaluated.

Dear Lilian. The project ended in 2015, but low-carbon transition is a topic which we still are working with. We focused on clothing in one part of the project because we wanted to address the impact on energy consumption from the interaction between production and consumption within a practice area (clothing). Other parts of the project focused empirically on smart grid, LED, bio-energy, mobility, and housing. I have attached the final reporting to the funding agency. Usually I observe that most of the journals in natural sciences have high impact factor as compare to management science. I also observed that impact factor journals are more in natural sciences as compare to management sciences. Even some of my friends at master level publish in natural scienes journals with impact factor two or three or even five. In comparison the top journal such as journal of Finance has impact factor close to 5.What is the possible reason for this? ?
Relevant answer
Answer
Impact factor measures how much are papers in a particular journal cited. Papers in natural sciences are simply more cited. You can read more about it the blog below. For example:
“Only” 12% of medicine articles are not cited, compared to about 82% (!) for the humanities. It’s 27% for natural sciences and 32% for social sciences (cite).

One way is to increase the productivity of agriculture. GMOs could be one way but that is not the only way. Cultivation techniques, crop rotations, soil amendments, complete use of agri-products (integration of bio-products into larger economy such as medicines, industries, and fuels), expansions of growing areas (marginal lands, urban spaces, etc.) and novel crop choices are some more ways. If you can make more, and more useful, agricultural products you will have economic growth.

I cannot find any indicators as to what constitutes a "good" altmetric although it appears in an appreciable number of articles.  Thank you.
Relevant answer
Answer
Good question! As a very rough rule of thumb, 20 seems to be a good score, in the sense that if your article gets an Altmetrics score of 20 or more, then it is getting more public attention than most other articles. However, the number is very sensitive to context. For instance, I could imagine that your research results could easily be presented in a way that would generate public interest and thus potentially get high Altmetric scores but would also have to compete with other high-scoring articles in the field. In contrast, I would be happily surprised if any of my pure maths articles were to get an Altmetric score of more than 0. It is therefore worth looking more closely at the Altmetric details of a particular article: the Altmetric data gives a detailed rundown of who was interested in your article and also how it is ranked in comparison with other articles in general, other articles from the same source, other articles of the same age, and so on. If your article gets more attention than 99% other articles from the same field, then that is worth bragging about, regardless of the particular Altmetric score.

Good day!
My master thesis is Determinants of Earnings Quality.
And I have to use qualitative research, involving analysis of company annual reports and/or other company information collected and articles from the business press.
I've done literature review and all papers in this ares are quantitative and involves using of Stata or other software.
Can you please give any ideas how can I conduct qualitative research without interviews and surveys. Can I manually analyse annual reports?
Thank you
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Aiman
I agree with David, what you plan to do is something unusual. The value of qualitative research is to go deeper into a specific topic. It seems to me that one possibility might be to study the perspective that different employees and managers have on "earnings quality" and how to measure it. This way you could do several in depth interviews. You could contrast how various positions in the organizational structure look at the topic.

Jorge

Want to publish case reports, how do I start
Relevant answer
Answer
I completely agree with Marcel, besides it gets harder to find respected international journals to publish case reports due to the high flow of manuscripts.  Try some journals specifically printing case reports.  Unfortunately many of these journals require payments to publish unless the case is very interesting.
Case reports are left mostly to local journals, which may prevent some very interesting cases and approaches to be missed by international readers.
For an advice, be meticulous when writing case reports, and try to include excellent pictures or diagrams in order to be preferred.    Use the most recent literature in the field.
Good luck.

I am researching a Business problem for my dissertation identifying gaps between Global Supply Chain and Global Environmental/Sustainability compliance. My overall goal is to intertwine Business Management principles with Environmental and Sustainability Management principles and how they interact and influence each other.
Relevant answer
Answer
The ability to measure what KPIs accurately identify interactions within supply chain networks to track environmental impacts on stakeholders becomes a critical Green Supply Chain Management Tool. Based on my initial research I identified the following Environmental Supply Chain KPIs:
Internal Drivers:
  1. Cost Reduction
  2. Corporate Social Responsibility
Market Drivers:
  1. Consumer Demand
Legal Drivers:
  1. Current and future environmental regulations nationally and internationally
Lagging Drivers:
  1. Company Reputation
  2. Risk Avoidance
KPI Critical Path = Cost Reduction>Customer Demand>Current and Future Regulations>Risk Avoidance
Once measured how do you quantify KPI measurements and how does it translate along the Critical Path? Has any organization successfully done it and if so has it been published? As Multinational Organizations strive to develop best in Class Practices in Sustainability how can you validate it's true worth? How can you identify the effort as window dressing, benchmarking or Best Environmental Management Practices (BEMPs) based on the data?

I would like to learn about the most commonly used statistical methods in monitoring and evaluation of projects and programs. The practitioners of M&E may be able to tell us the methods they frequently use for measuring specific aspects of a project or program. It is also helpful to mention the common dimensions that a person in-charge of M&E has to measure. This also allows one to guess what can be an appropriate method to measure such dimensions.
I appreciate sharing your experience and information in advance.

Dear friends,
Thanks for your participation. Actually, I am not asking about methods for analyzing a specific research problem. I, rather, want to know about the common methods that are used by practitioners of monitoring and evaluation of development programs and projects. As we know, there are numerous statistical and econometric methods, it is very interesting to work on those methods that are applicable to impact evaluation of projects and programs. There is one book by world bank, but it is not very rich in statistical terms. If you have experience in monitoring and evaluation, please share your experience with us. It may also be very helpful if you can share the types of outcomes you are interested to measure so that we can guess of an appropriate statistical method.
Thanks for your cooperation in advance.

If we are conducting research from developing countries in the field of management sciences, what key points we should consider to make it publishable in impact factor journals? what points are considered most important by reviewers of high impact journals?
Relevant answer
Answer
I would recommend you two main points:
(1) The contribution of your research should be clear in your article. you have to explain in detail what is your research question, why the others have not or could not answer it, and how you are going to solve it.
(2) When your data or your case study is from a developing country, it should be considered that making your results to be expandable. Your findings should be interesting (and also applicable) for readers from another countries.
Here is an example of publication from a developing country to a prestigious American journal:

Policy instruments impact heavily on sustainable manufacturing principles and practices if they are not consistent. But how can the policies on sustainable manufacturing be consistent? They cannot because one or the other principles of sustainability: Economy, Society and ecology is weakly founded.
Take the example of Climate Change. Several billion dollars have been poured into saving the Earth from the vagaries of climate change. Marching in comes a DENIER of climate and out goes the policy on Climate Change. Look deeply into the consistency factor.

Needless to say, the field of exploration became more specific in the world of research, and researchers need to be experts in the respective fields. However, young researchers, perhaps need more exposure in different sub or relative fields to understand their own area of exploration better. It is then, can be a valid question to be raised,  since the new researchers are rising everyday and they need help with these issues.

Like Mark Twain said, 'predictions are difficult, especially about the future'.
Nevertheless, the trends are there: have a look at the country data in this site, which are based on long term records by the national met services ( not really suspect of data manipulation, I think). You'll see that Europe is a prime place to observe climate change... and hence to be concerned about carbon emissions...
They also record impacts on several important features or activities, such as agriculture, extreme events ( flash foods, etc...), forest fires, etc... Quite telling in my opinion, but maybe not in yours.
And I'll stop it here, because I guess the only point on which we can agree on this topic, is to disagree!

I have collected information from more than 50 published papers. However do not know whether meta analysis be conducted as there is no control observation? Can any one guide me to solve this issue?
Relevant answer
I don't think a control group is relevant. It's more important to consistently compare the studies by adjusting their results for the different methodologies used. Often the only way is to obtain original data from the authors, but that is difficult in my experience :)

Relevant answer
Answer
This question is still so wide, it is almost impossible to answer. I suggest you start with what you have: what does your first degree give you? What access to businesses do you have yourself, or could be arranged through advisors? Ask yourself which industry and which type of organisations (multinational, consultancies, start-ups) you are most interested in. Start reading on those topics (try finding review articles at first, which may give the quickest overview of a field). Iteratively shape your focus and research questions. If you post answers to above questions the community will be more able to help with suggestions.

I have several variables which show same things so i want to combine all these variables though PCA and creating an Index.
Relevant answer
Answer
This is a multi-stage process. I'll use SPSS terms in the description, but the process can be carried out with most statistical packages.
1. Do exploratory PC factor analysis of all your variables with a factor cutoff eigenvalue of 1.0 (normal default). Ask for a component structure loading matrix, and ask for the variables to be sorted on that (makes interpretation easier, but not required).
2. If there is only one factor retained with eigenvalue of 1.0 or higher, you can be fairly sure your set of variables are unidimensional and internally consistent and thus will make a valid index. If more than one factor is extracted, your set of variables are not unidimensional and will not make a valid single index. You will probably want to either (a) exclude variables loading below some criterion from your set and repeat (1) on the new subset of retained variables  or (b) split the set of variables into two indices, with the variables strongly loaded on factor one retained as one index and the variables loaded strongly on factors two, three ... as separate additional indexes. Interpretation of what these component factors are comes from the variables that load strongly on each component factor in the structure matrix.
3. When you have a set of unidimensional variables for one or more component factors, evaluate each component factor  independently with the below process(es):
3a. Factor all retained variables again, forcing the program to extract only the strongest factor (FACTORS(1) in SPSS) and to save the factor scores as variables. This produces a properly weighted sum of the variables, and it is the value of your index for each observation (subject or respondent). It is computed as a standard (z-) score, with mean of 0.0 and standard deviation of 1.0, with subjects/respondents getting a positive score if they are above the mean and a negative one if below the mean.
3b. Alternatively, if you want to create a simple summed index, make sure all your retained variables use the same measurement scale (not required in 3a). Then compute the Cronbach Alpha statistic for the variable. As a rough rule of thumb, .70 and higher are typically accepted. This is an indicator of the suitability of your set of variables to be combined by adding into an index. If the Cronbach Alpha is acceptabel,  then just the sum of the scales of the retained variables to get the index value.
3c. A good procedure is to combine 3a and 3b. Correlate the PC Index and the Summed Index. If they correlate very highly (say, .90 or higher), just use the summing procedure...it's easier to compute and to explain. But if it's lower, the items are not really suitable to simply sum, and need to be weighted. Use the PC weighted factor score index in this case. It weights the more important variables more highly, and so is really more accurately representing the underlying construct the index is measuring.
