Are you interested in joining our Juglandaceae-network?
We are working on global biogeography and conservation of the relict tree family Juglandaceae. However, the distribution and status knowledge of many species of South-Eastern Asia are not well known.
We are searching therefore for local experts of Engelhardia apoensis. According to our knowledge, the species is present in continental Malaysia, Borneo, Brunei, Philippines. Please see the attached schematic map with known distribution (administrative units & countries).
Any information, maps, publications, reports, personal observations, etc. from your region are interesting for us.

Do you know any expert on identifying freshwater fishes in the Philippines?
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern globally, particularly in third-world countries like the Philippines, where access to healthcare resources may be limited and antimicrobial stewardship practices may be lacking. Understanding the regional antibiograms, which outline the susceptibility of pathogens to specific antibiotics, is crucial for effective treatment strategies. However, there is a lack of comprehensive data on regional antibiograms in the Philippines, hindering the development of targeted antimicrobial therapies.

In the research article "Challenges facing blood transfusion services at a regional blood transfusion center in Western Kenya" by Kavulavu et al. (2022), the demand and need for blood in Kenya were caused by tropical infectious diseases such as malaria, as well as trauma-related incidents in recent years. From a Philippine standpoint, what could contribute to a spike in the need for blood?
Based on the journal of Kavulavu et al. (2022) entitled “Challenges facing blood transfusion services at a regional blood transfusion center in Western Kenya”, the supply of blood components in Western Kenya is facing several challenges. These challenges include scarcity, incompatible transfusions, and transfusion-transmissible infections. Other developing countries also suffer from the same problems, including the Philippines. How can these life-threatening challenges be prevented?
In the study by Kavulavu et al. (2022), they stated that certain sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries have limited financial resources. Data have shown that the situation can be mitigated through recruiting and retaining regular blood donors, thorough blood screening, compatibility testing, and hemovigilance. As a medical technologist, we can participate in recruiting blood donors. Therefore, what strategies can blood banks employ to enlighten the public about the importance of blood transfusions? What can be done to erase misconceptions, and encourage voluntary blood donations in local communities here in the Philippines?
Recruitment, selection, and retention are pivotal aspects of human resource management especially within the public sector in the Philippines. Considering the unique challenges and dynamics of governmental organizations, what strategies can be implemented to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of recruitment, selection, and retention practices in the Philippine public sector? How can these strategies address issues such as talent acquisition, meritocracy, diversity, and employee engagement while aligning with the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness inherent in public administration?
We are going to conduct a study on the antidiabetic activity of sea urchin extracts and it was suggested that we use cell lines to determine the activity of our extract. Are there any laboratories where we can get these cell lines? Or what alternative in vivo or ex vivo methods can be used instead of cell lines?

Hello, I'm a student just getting involved in the sphere of research, and the topic I found interesting was the lack of interest in history within all spheres of education in my country the Philippines. I mean, unless the students are interested in history (who I might add are few and far between), the general population seem to have a disinterest in it...
I'm a communication student, and I wanted to see if its something related to how history itself is being taught, and if it might be a misunderstanding between student and teacher that is causing it, or maybe the way it is being taught is not interesting enough to the general public anymore...
So far, the only related research I found on this site was "‘Clio’ in Danger: The Causes, Condition and Consequences of the Decline of Interest in History in Perspective" written by Adjei Adjepong, Charles Adabo Oppong & Joseph Udimal Kachim from the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana.
Thank you if this ever gets the attention it needs (honestly don't know if I'm supposed to be posting this here)
I have determined radon in Philippine caves for my MS thesis. To add an environmental health aspect, I have proposed calculating the excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) for tourists and workers. I have found that there is no significant risk to tourists. However, it is not the same for the workers since they spend more time inside the caves due to repeated entry. I found an estimated ELCR of 2% - 3% for the workers. Does anyone has an idea where can I compare this estimation and what is would be your opinion on this. For now, I can just say that there is a significant risk to cave workers due to radon exposure.
I tried looking for related literatures but most ELCRs are estimated for indoor environments such as work offices and homes.
For my research paper, I will be studying on the antibacterial, antioxidant, and antitumor activities of the plant species shown in the photo. However, I am not sure of its full scientific name. It was collected in Pandan, Antique Province, Philippines. It has a local name of "libut" and is known as a medicinal plant for headaches and toothaches. Thank you very much in advance.

What is an academic discipline? Is Academic Discipline synonymous to "relevant field of study"? Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Philippines Circular Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 15 Series of 2019 states that Dissertation Advisers should have a PhD in the Academic Discipline that their students are taking up. Is "relevant field of study" the same with one's understanding of academic discipline? For instance, is the field of Forestry the same Academic Discipline as Environmental Science? Another example is, is the Academic Discipline of Anthropology the same Academic Discipline with Sociology?
To what extent could this study ascertain the current assertions about Philippine English grammar and lexical features as a unique variety of English and acceptable in the classroom context?

Need: funding for wet lab part of thesis (development of vaccine through reverse vaccinology with immunoinformatics pipeline)
Hello! My groupmates and I have our undergraduate thesis on developing a vaccine through immunoinformatics. (Philippines)
Our initial plan was, as the title has already suggested, to conduct it through dry lab, but our institution requires we perform wet lab, as well, which is why we decided that we would derive antigenic epitopes from isolated bacteria. That means we need microbiological reagents (agars, plates, etc.), a DNA extraction kit, a PCR kit, gel electrophoresis needs, etc. Hence, we need funding for this part of the thesis. I was wondering if anyone knows where we could look for funding for our thesis. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. TIA
What is the best way to calculate prevalence/ Pool prevalence from a study with heterogeneous population/Sample? For instance, in a survey conducted across Asia (continent), how can I check the prevalence of a disease in only one of the participating countries (eg: Philippines)?
Preferably, in the Philippines.

I (Japan) and colleagues from the Philippines and Vietnam are conducting a survey on the English language and culture.
We would like to open this to any other interested parties.
We are all teaching EFL students who are English majors.
It is a simple survey that questions how long students have been studying English and how culture effects their foreign language learning.
We would like to expand this to a wider base of countries, not necessarily Asia with instructors who are teaching EFL English majors.
Please contact charry@g.matsuyama-u.ac.jp
Thank you, for any who are considering

We will be conducting Insecticide resistance surveillance on Philippine mosquitoes. I just wanted to know if it is acceptable to use the CDC Bottle Assay for our study even though we are in the Philippines. Will there be a problem in terms of the acceptability of the results to the reviewers if we use the CDC Bottle than the WHO?
I am hoping we can be clarified on this matter.
Thank you!

I am planning to do a spatiotemporal analysis (2010-2020) of urban heat islands in Metro Manila, Philippines, specifically on how they correlate with factors such as population density, average precipitation, and the prevalence of infectious diseases (e.g. leptospirosis).
I am new to this field of study and the methodology in most papers I have read is highly computational and beyond my comprehension. Can anyone suggest a statistical method I can use to correlate urban heat islands to multiple factors? Also, can anyone suggest an appropriate software I can use to run these analyses?
I wish to conduct research on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing and poaching of mobulidae species in Jagna, Bohol, Philippines.
Hello, good morning. Our study is about ranking 30 blue chip stocks in the PSE. We want to know the validity of a ranking method called TOPSIS based on the ranking used by the Philippine Stock Exchange which is the VWAP method. I just want to ask if I can use Kendall tau b to know if the ranking given by the TOPSIS method is valid, based on the ranking given by the VWAP method? Because there are ties in the ranking between the two methods. Thank you! I hope you can help me with this.

Is there anyone here, or do you know anyone willing to validate my happiness instrument/ scale? Thank you.
What is the formula used by the Philippine Social Science Council used for the number of respondents in a random sampling and the applicable margin of error to be used the fact that I need a small number of respondents that must still be reliable for a study?
I am currently looking for a new research topic for my Ph.D. Specifically, what I did in MA courses was explore the determinants of vulnerability. Here, I consider poverty, covariate risk, and idiosyncratic (household-specific risks) as elements of vulnerability. Then, during my Ph.D. (near future), I want to do my research about land reform and climate change especially in the context of the philippine focusing on CARP and Livelihood by using panel data and some qualitative data. Does anyone have an idea about it?
I'm a grade 11 student from the Philippines and our school is currently holding online classes. Quarantine restrictions render us with no access to physical laboratories to hold tests and experiments in. We have been interested in the field of Pharmacogenetics and considered doing a comprehensive meta-analysis. However, our research coordinator discouraged us from choosing to do so. Is it still possible for us to pursue this topic? And what specific research topics could be feasible for us to do? Answers and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Does data from contact tracing help in establishing patterns of behavior and social interactions that lead to infections? There are cases here in the Philippines where patients have no travel history but still get the virus. It is probable that patterns of behavior of other members of the household (for example, working in enclosed and densely populated workspaces) might cause the infection. Just a thought.
I am working on a paper that looks into the dynamics of the spread of Wolbachia and its potential impact on dengue transmission, particularly in the Philippines.

I'm particularly interested in Tungro, but any leads would be great!
I do not have the figures for researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), but for this discussion, I will assume that in a population of researchers, a fair fraction will be researchers in STEM.
The Philippines has a frustratingly small number of researchers (~188 researchers for every 1 million inhabitants). This is probably the reason it lags behind its neighbors in the STEM fields. This, I would suppose, has detrimental effects on the overall development of the country. Its neighbors, such as South Korea (~7500 researchers/million inhabitants), Singapore (~6700 researchers/million inhabitants), Japan (~5300 researchers/million inhabitants), Malaysia (~2400 researchers/million inhabitants), Thailand (~1200 researchers/million inhabitants), China (~1200 researchers/million inhabitants), and Vietnam (~700 researchers/million inhabitants), that have significantly larger densities of researchers have overtaken the Philippines in many aspects of development. Other countries, such as Laos (~16 researchers/million inhabitants), Cambodia (~30 researchers/million inhabitants), Myanmar (~29 researchers/million inhabitants) seem to also lag in many aspects of progress.
What might it take for countries such as ours to raise more researchers and scientists? Would you be able to provide suggestions on how we might do so despite the fact that the Philippines and other countries with small densities of researchers are low- to middle-income countries?
(Data on number of researchers per million inhabitants taken from UNESCO Institute for Statistics: http://data.uis.unesco.org/index.aspx?queryid=64)
