Dear researched,
I read a paper from one well known publisher. Paper is about gestational diabetees. At the age 45+ they found 35 cases of diabetes and 90 women without it. They wrote: ''Te incidence of GDM at age≥45years was as high as 38.89%.'' I would suggest 28%? What do you think?
In addition, I have some question. If something increase from 50 to 200, that is 4 times increase?
What about folds? In my opinion, folds are not same as times? The next article stated in abstract: ''neutralizing antibodies were increased by 10.3–28.9 times at 4 weeks after the booster'' and than in results ''eutralizing antibody GMTs then increased during the 4 weeks after the booster dose until day 237 by 28.9, 10.3, and 11.9-fold". Was this written correctly?
Relevant answer
Answer
38% comes if we divide 35/90 . it should be 28% (90/125).
"fold change" i think synonymous with "times", as in "3-fold larger" = "3 times larger"..

The problem is that I can not recognize what is predatory publisher and what is not. Why? Because some superiors (often professors or groups with certain interests) claim that this or that publisher is bad, with predatory traits.
This negative campaign is being run against publishers whose journals are indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus databases.
Do you think it's perfectly okay to publish in journals indexed in WoS / Scopus? Or can these databases index stacks of predatory publishing journals?
Of course, there can be some mistakes in the order of units..
Please help share this including your opinions, thanks.

Because in some cases the mostly DOI links cannot work properly.

I have read many research "overclaiming" the result of their research and fail to describe the limitation of their current study (maybe because they are afraid that the limitation will undermine the result of their research). For anyone of you who have written your scientific paper, how did you write the limitation of your study? Is there any tips?
Relevant answer
Answer
Agreed with Ajit Singh Enumerate every constraint in context but succinctly; Describe why each restriction occurs. Specify reasons why each restriction could not be solved using the data collection method(s) employed [reference other studies that experienced comparable difficulties where possible]
These limitations will be clear for certain studies: limited sample size, numerous comparisons without adjustments, observational design, and the possibility of confounding. The limits of alternative designs may be less evident, but you must nonetheless list them.

Greetings
One of the most major problems of writing an undergraduate article is the lack of access to a laboratory and a professor to check the accuracy of article information in the laboratory.
For example, at my university, only postgraduate, PhD and postdoctoral students are allowed to work in the laboratory. What should an undergraduate student do if he or she wants to write an article and extract the information needed for his or her paper from the lab?
Undergraduate students do not have access to professors and laboratories to verify their ideas, what should they do to write an article?
Can he write another type of article that is published in a valid journal but does not require laboratory information? Or can he collaborate with a foreign professor to write an article?
What is the solution to the problem?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Pejman Rahmani Nejad many thanks for asking this very important technical question, which is certainly of broad general interest to many RG members. I'm afraid that my answer is not what you want to hear, but of course you are absolutely free to ignore it. My initial thought was: Why should an undergraduate student write a scientific article? In my personal opinion (which might be somewhat old-fashioned) the main job of an undergraduate student is to attend lectures, courses, and seminars, collect basic knowledge and pass exams. Especially in your discipline, chemistry, you can only write a scientific article if you have new results to report, and new results can normally be achieved only in the lab (if it is not theoretical chemistry). Moreover, you need to have a supervisor / senior scientist / principal investigator who conceicves the research and acts as corresponding author. Writing of a review article is also not a good idea at the undergraduate stage, as you must be a proven expert in the field covered by the review. Thus, in the end, why don't you just be patient and wait until you worked on an own research project and have sufficient new results to publish?
Good luck and best wishes, Frank Edelmann

Choosing a journal for the publication of research articles is becoming increasingly difficult and a source of concern. Most often, the researcher struggles to determine the article's weight and is rejected. So, how should we go about choosing a journal? Do you have any suggestions that you find useful? I'd be extremely grateful.
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, that's right, choosing a journal for a research paper is not an easy matter. Journals with a high level of recognition in the scientific world and included in the Scopus and / or Web of Science lists usually require high fees for publishing an article. Journals that do not require fees, have simplified editorial procedures, are usually much less known, and articles published in these journals are less frequently cited. But there are journals that do not require a fee to publish an article, and the articles included in these journals are also posted on many different indexing databases of articles, journals and research papers when published. In this situation, the possibility of citation and recognition of the published article also increases. This is particularly important when the entire text of the published article is posted in the OA formula in various indexing databases of articles, journals and research papers and on various internet research portals.
Below I propose good scientific journals published every six months (semi-annuals), which, after publishing their articles, place all articles in many databases of indexing scientific publications in the open access formula. Articles for publication are accepted free of charge and are also published free of charge. You can publish for free in these magazines. Articles published in these journals are entered in many indexing databases of scientific journals. These magazines are published electronically in PDF and also in printed version.
Below are the websites of three scientific journals that meet these criteria:
- "International Journal of Innovation in Social Sciences and Engineering" (ISSN 2543-7089):
Social sciences, various humanities and exact sciences, also taking into account social, sociological, economic and other aspects:
- "International Journal of Legal Studies" (ISSN 2543-7097):
Legal sciences, normative aspects of various issues, various issues described in normative terms:
- "International Journal of Innovation in Social Sciences and Engineering" (ISSN 2543-7089):
Humanities and exact sciences, various fields of science, various types of issues including new technologies, various fields of innovation applications, determinants of innovation development, etc.
Have a nice day, Stay healthy! Best wishes,

Due to the huge leap in COVID-19 vaccinations around the globe, I presume that this disease will be eradicated promptly (hopefully).
However, is it OK to use retrospective data of COVID-19 in our research?
I used the data of last year (2020), but because of the journal's long processes, I think that the data I used in my paper will become old.
Is it going to be accepted, or it's not interesting for journal editors and reviewers?

Retrospective vs prospective studies in patients with COVID-19?
Quality of data is more important than tons of quantity. It is definitely more important in retrospective studies than in prospective.
However, doing something (even a case report about a new aspect of COVID-19 ) is better than doing nothing.

Recently, I read that we do not validate the questionnaire, but the scores obtained through this questionnaire. So is it wrong the papers with the title"Validation of the XXXXXX questionnaire"?
Relevant answer
Answer
Early in my career I encountered Anne Anastasi's book "Psychological Testing". I was struck, and have remained impressed all my life, by her thought that a "questionnaire is a sample of behaviour". That is, a questionnaire is a *sample* from which the analyst makes predictions about the *ensemble* of behaviours the respondent may be said to exhibit. It makes complete sense therefore to investigate the ability of a questionnaire to allow the prediction to be made with validity (does the sample really measure the ensemble of interest?) and reliability (does the sample fluctuate at random?) Using unvalidated questionnaires is, as I used to drone to my dear students till they knew this lesson, pseudo-science and snake-oil. As in all inferential statistics, the actual *data* (in the original question, "the scores") is an accident that has just taken place. What the investigator wants to know is: what does the accident tell us ("the questionnaire")? Welcome to the wonderful world of Psychometrics!

Answer
Dear Aziz,
That's a nice but weak question. Since you have defined yourself a beginner, pleae accept just a few suggestions.
Qualitative methodologies and designs can be rather different among and within each scientific discipline.
Epidemiologists and sociologists would probably disagree on which criteria should be used to define and, consequently, suggest a good (even the best) resources. And I am pretty sure that also sociologists themselves would.
What is your main interests, where do you want to start from?
Are you interested methodologies? in suitable approaches? in specific qualitative interview techniques? or, different methods for qualitative analysis?.... in-depth qualitative interviews?… ethnographic methods?
Try to better define your question to avoid random suggestions. I am sure you will find what you're looking for.

Nowadays, I have seen many researchers are involved in increasing their citation count. They are using various inappropriate approaches for that. However, in last they have a good number of citations. My question starts now:
Organizations judge the profile on several factors among them one is a citation. Is it really good to have a high citation count? If one person fairly wants to do research, then for him citation count will be less (because he is not doing any fraudulent activity) and his profile will be judged lower than the cheater. Here, we are talking about only citation count, therefore please don't involve other performance measure components like quality research papers and others.
Please share your views.

Interestingly, the specific capacitances decrease with the increasing of the current density, but increase with the increasing of the scan rate before 50mv/s? How it is possible? and how to solve the problem? Thanks a lot!
the CV and GCD plot are in the attachment.
Relevant answer
Answer
A good (and correct) capacitance's calculation need a rectangular[1-3] (in shape) cyclic voltammogram (CV). So, your method is quasi-accurate at low scan rate (2 mV/s).
This is supported in the low frequency regime (in your EIS), where the phase is near -90.
This freq. regime is marked (in EIS#2) by the letter A.
The "bad freq. regime" for capacitance's calculation is marked (EIS#2) by the letter C.
Letter B shows the transition freq. regime; EIS(#2) indicates: "How it is possible?"[4].
George Zheng Chen (July 15, 2014): The general equation, capacitance = charge/voltage, is only correct if the material or electrode or device behaves like a capacitor, for example, the cyclic voltammogram (CV) is rectangular in shape. Your other equation (copied below) for calculating capacitance is incorrect.      capacitance under the peak =total charge under a peak / sweep rate (1) A peak shaped CV should not be used for calculation of the capacitance of the material or electrode.   (2) Even if it is for calculation of the differential capacitance, your equation is still incorrect. I have a scientific article. Its content refers to the harvesting and storing energy from storms. Because this content is new, strange and uncommon, I have been rejected by some journals (including RENEWABLE ENERGY by Elsevier, SCIENCE, PLOS ONE - a mega journal) just because the topic of my article is outside the scope of those journals even though the editors of these journals have confirmed the content of article is technically correct.
I want to ask which scientific journals will accept to publish an article with the topic and content related to harvesting and storing energy from storms
Relevant answer
Answer
You can try the following journals:
Journal of Cleaner Production
Coastal Engineering
Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans

We are living in a digital world. Our life is encompassing with internet, computer and smart phone. Communication is getting faster but losing spirits and emotions.
The practice of writing letter on paper with pen are very rare and going to be extinct.
When was the last time you wrote a letter on paper with pen/pencil?
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, we have had email for 25-30 years, but we retain the option of witing with a pen and paper offline. Gauss famously kept his work private. Modern times made it more urgent to share. Humanity requires cooperation.

Hello Dear Researchers,
Actually, I need to find a free and comprehensive reference, in order to learn all steps of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis theoretically, practically and exactly in SmartPLS, by studying it. Could you suggest me a good reference like this (book, paper and so on), based on your experiences. Thank you so much.
Best regards,

Answer
I have used two books as basic literature for SmartPLS:
1) Vinzi, V. E., Chin, W. W., Henseler, J., & Wang, H. (Eds.). (2010). Handbook of Partial Least Squares. Berlin: Springer. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-32827-8
and
2) Hair, J. F., Hult, G. T. M., Ringle, C., & Sarstedt, M. (2014). A primer on partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Thousand Oaks: Sage.
Attached are the pdf files.
Hair et. al (2014) is not the most recent edition, but better than nothing...
Sorry for some marked excerpts, but it's my way of studying ... I'm a very visual person.
Hope this can help.

I want to publish my review paper in any reputed journal, but the time duration is less. Are there any free journals available to publish with in 2 months? Otherwise can you list trustworthy paid journals?
Relevant answer
Answer
If you want to publish a review article, you should write to the editor of the journal in question, together with a detailed plan. But be aware that if you are not known to the editorial board, you will have a chance very close to 0, unless you have a much more senior colleague who could recommend you. And even that might not help.
My question to you is this: WHY, WHY are you in a hurry? A review article needs to be assessed, just as any other contribution, and I would say that if you are not known the assessment will be more detailed, just because you are a junior scientist.
Again - to be in a hurry is NEVER a good start.

Hi
I have submitted my paper to a journal of Elsevier publisher 3 months ago. The paper is still in Under Review status. However, although the paper went under review on 6th September, the status date of the paper have changed several times. Please could you tell me why such changes happen, while it is still in Under Review status?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Mohammad
First of all, you have to wait for the minimum time to take final decision (that is generally 10-12 weeks for Elsevier). You don’t worry about change date with same status. Your task has been finished since you submitted and even you cannot assume whether reviewer is rejecting or accepting.
There are several possible reasons for date change:
1. When Editor invites Associate Editor or Handling Editor (Status: With Editor)
2. When Associate Editor or Handling Editor accepts or rejects the invitation. Editor again invites new Associate Editor or Handling Editor if earlier Associate Editor or Handling Editor rejects invitation due to Unavailability, Out of Area, Conflict of Interest etc. (Status: Under Review)
3. When Associate Editor or Handling Editor invites reviewers. (Status: Under Review)
You will get mail at this stage with subject: Your manuscript paper id has been sent for review
4. When Reviewer accepts or rejects the invitation (Status: Under Review)
5. When Reviewer submit their response (Status: Under Review)
6. When reviews are conflicting then Associate Editor or Handling Editor invites another reviewer (Status: Under Review)
7. When Associate Editor or Handling Editor recommends his decision to Editor (Status: Ready for Decision/With Editor)
You will get mail at this stage with subject: Reviews complete and decision pending for your manuscript paper id
8. When Editor takes final decision. (Accept/Reject/Minor/Moderate/Major)
This is the whole story of Elsevier Review Process.
You have submitted on September 6. Please wait for exactly 3 months (till December 6) and then send a gentle reminder regarding status of your paper to Associate Editor or Handling Editor if still under review. I hope everything has been clearly to you.
Wish you a good luck with your research paper.
Best Wishes
Sukhpal

Will biomass pyrolysis provide large scale biofuel alternatives to fossil fuels and alternatives to petrochemicals, as compared to the large scale common uses of biomass such as paper industry
Relevant answer
Answer
Biomass production has three main human uses: for food and fodder production; for energy, such as liquid bio-fuels; for production of materials, not only for construction and paper, but also for wool, cotton etc. Net primary production of biomass has to support Earth's ecosystems as well as the human uses listed above. Ethically, providing food for Earth's people must be given precedence over the other uses, but not necessarily providing high animal products diets. Also, using timber as a construction material to replace (some) energy-intensive steel and concrete will reduce global GHG emissions more than using bio-energy to replace fossil fuel combustion. Overall, bioenergy can only be a minor contributor to future energy--we will have to rely more on other renewable energy sources, and on energy reductions.

There must be certain stylistic features in writing that differentiate native from non-native standards. Perhaps non-native writers can improve upon their writing styles in order to enrich competition in research paper publishing.
Relevant answer
Answer
Something quite annoying is the inconsistency in the definition of "native speaker" between journals. I personally experienced cases of American journals complaining about the English used by British authors, and vice-versa. It's also common to see complaints made by American or British reviewers about the English used by people from other native anglophone countries, especially in Africa. So, at least part of the problem may be attributed to prejudice.

Dear colleagues,
please, let us discuss your opinions about a single and multi-authors paper. How it can reflect the author personality? Which one is more trusted? Does a single author paper give the author a good reputation? or maybe it shows the competency of the author?
Regards.
Relevant answer
Answer
In my point of view, the quantity of authors is not important in a research. Novelty, content and quality of research are more significant rather than that one.
