Hello and Happy new year , I am currently searching a topic for my thesis. I study Computer Science with netwotks specialization . I am looking for a topic which maintains a balance between theoretical and practical-experimental research . The stuff I would like to be included, are: C, Java , NS2 , Matlab, signal processing, Packet tracer, general network management and I would like to learn a modern skill which will be usefull in a future job. In cloud-based RAN (C-RAN), all the signal processing were transferred from the local or small cell base stations (i.e. Distributed D-RAN) to a centralized center to simplify the network management and enhance the computation capabilities. But again, the centralized computation of C-RAN is distributed across the continuum from the cloud to the network edge in so called Fog-based RAN (F-RAN), i.e. the situation is again returned to the D-RAN.
So, I am confusing about this situation, if there is any clarification from anyone, he is very welcomed.

My question lies on the Electricity Substation Automation. I am not that familiar on how communications are working so I am trying to understand the worst latency case I can face.
Example: Several monitoring devices (i.e., 6) send measurements to a remote terminal unit (RTU) located at the electricity distribution substation. These monitoring devices send average data of the measurements to the RTU every 30 minutes. The communication used is GPRS.
Can the latency go up to the scale of minutes?

Are there any excellent papers / books about the management and organisation of innovation networks beyond what Nambisan & Sawhney (AMP 2011), Iansiti and Levien (the keystone advantage), and Adner (the wide lens) have been advocating?
