Hi! I am currently working on a research project focused on exploring the dynamics of masculinity within the context of the workplace, specifically delving into the concept of "work as a masculinity contest" as discussed in link to the mentioned paper: .
As part of my literature review, I am eager to gather insights from a diverse range of perspectives. I am reaching out to request recommendations for books that have significantly contributed to the discourse on masculinity in the workplace, with a particular emphasis on the theme of work as a masculinity contest.
If you have come across any impactful books or publications that shed light on this specific aspect or have broader relevance to masculinity in professional settings, I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.

If breastfeeding correlates with reducing risks of autism in infants parsimoniously (as the most simple explanation with the most evidence) then that could also lower toxic masculinity in adult males. Especially because pegging is already thought to lower toxic masculinity.

Pintrijel Mihai, I must tell you - as a life-long male - that I at the age of 50 still do not know what masculinity actually is. I know Diana Ross likes Muscles, but that is it. If I cry, am I feminine? The conclusion is that masculiny is a term everyone fills with their own prejudices. "Toxic masculity" is, however, a reference to quite specific type of character, whether one accepts the etymological roots of the term or not. We know what the term refers to.

I am especially interested in the apartheid effect on aestheticization. So, in my paper, I propose that Black body builders are not publically aestheticized and eroticized outside of their communities. They use body building to reach for and produce a moral, eroticitized and aestheticized body. I am looking for possible literature to advance this argument. Thanks.

Answer
If you are still researching this topic I suggest reading Mercer's 'Welcome to the Jungle' which considers the effects of the gaze on the male body, how the athletic body receives admiration and contributes to its fetishisation for hetero- and homosexuals.

Hi Camille,
A professor in my home department, Chrysanthi Leon, wrote a book on this topic. It's entitled Sex Fiends, Perverts and Pedophiles: Understanding Sex Crime in
America. It examines the social control of pedophiles, including its medicalization, from a sociological (in particular, social constructionist) perspective. It should be very relevant to your research. Good luck!

I know Hills' chapter in the Azzarito's book about visual method (Routledge), but is it the unique work abuot diversity/masculinities using this new methodology?
Relevant answer
Answer
Can't help you there with a specific reference but I think it would make a great study. I have used visual methodology, with a colleague, to explore our teaching of outdoor education  which in New Zealand is a PE context. We look at the way we have used experiential learning in our teacher education for outdoor education.

If you haven't already read it - there is a seminal paper by WH Courtenay in Social Science & Medicine that theorises about the link between performances of masculinity and health. There is also a chapter in Handbook of Studies on Men and Masculinities by Don Sabo that gives an excellent introduction to this topic.

From the viewpoint of housework couples share cooking to a greater extend than e.g. ironing. You should consider the expected work schedules for professional cooking: evenings and weekends. That's sometimes quite difficult to handle for mothers, so they probably drop out of their cooking profession more often than men or fathers do.
