1. Lack of knowledge and awareness: Women are often unaware of the opportunities available to them in maritime professions, and may not have access to the necessary resources to learn more about them.

2. Gender stereotypes: Women may face gender stereotypes and discrimination in the maritime industry, which can make it difficult for them to break into the field.

3. Lack of support: Women may have difficulty finding mentors, support networks, and job opportunities in the maritime industry, which can make it difficult for them to gain the experience needed to advance.

4. Physical requirements: Certain maritime professions may require physical strength and stamina that some women may not possess.

5. Cost: The cost of training and gaining the necessary certifications can be prohibitively high for some women.

1) Not exactly an internal wave, but the two-directional current system in the Bosphorus has been known for centuries.  Surface waters flow from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, and bottom (much more saline) waters flow from the Marmara to the Black Sea at the same time.  Fishermen wanting a "free ride" to the Black Sea against the surface current would lower their nets to catch the lower flow.

2)  Fridjtof Nansen had a research ship named the "Fram", which may be the one that Dennis Mazur is referring to above.

the yellow flag with the red lion with a sword is the States flag. Later in time the Dutch admiral had a flag with numerous red, white, bleu horizontal banners. The Geuzen had a red white and blue flag (quartered). Some flew the jolly roger. The Habsburg Netherlands had flags too,. The best known are those of the General Imperial Company in the 18th century (yellow and white with eagle). Normally in the early modern period a red and white flag with the imperial eagle was used or the Brabant flag (black with golden lion). It is important to distinguish signalling and manoeuvring flags from other flags (as is still in use today). The St-George was also flown (under Maximillian I).
