Two-Factor Theory (Frederick Herzberg) – Differentiates between hygiene factors (prevent dissatisfaction) and motivators (increase satisfaction).
Modern Management Theories
Contingency Theory (Fiedler, Woodward, etc.) – Argues there is no one-size-fits-all management approach; it depends on the situation.
Systems Theory (Ludwig von Bertalanffy, Stafford Beer) – Views organizations as interconnected systems interacting with their environment.
Resource-Based View (RBV) (Barney, Wernerfelt) – Suggests competitive advantage comes from unique, valuable, and hard-to-imitate resources.
Strategic Management Theories
Porter’s Five Forces (Michael Porter) – Analyzes industry competition using five forces: competitive rivalry, supplier power, buyer power, threat of new entrants, and threat of substitutes.
Core Competency Theory (Prahalad & Hamel) – Highlights that firms should focus on their unique strengths to gain competitive advantage.
Blue Ocean Strategy (Kim & Mauborgne) – Advocates creating uncontested market spaces instead of competing in existing ones.
Leadership Theories
Great Man Theory – Suggests leaders are born, not made.
Trait Theory of Leadership – Identifies specific personality traits associated with effective leaders.
Transformational Leadership (Burns, Bass) – Describes leaders who inspire and innovate to create change.
Servant Leadership (Robert Greenleaf) – Focuses on leaders serving their team rather than seeking power.

My study concerns social identity leadership and how org. identification is influenced through in-group and out-group variables from a resource perspective which infers how power is used in identity prototypicality. Since French and Ravens bases of power use coercive, legitimate, informational and other powers among referent power. Referent power is more attuned to have a role in my model. But can I use this dimension (referent power) of French and Raven's social power as a separate variable, more specifically, as a moderator?
Relevant answer

Writing a successful dissertation is not rocket science. It’s all about knowing what you are getting into, determining your action plan and then ensuring that you follow through with the process. Most universities in the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere already have a standard structure, document and framework for a successful dissertation. Unfortunately, the dissertation phobia of most undergraduate, master's and even doctorate students makes it difficult to make the most of their research experience. The Research Team of Prime Strategic Services for instance discovered that most students are unable to write successful dissertations because of issues such as lack of continuous writing skills, anxiety, poor time management, complexity of work demands and not seeking research assistance in time. The identified steps in writing a successful dissertation can make a difference if you want to deliver impressive work at the end of the day. 1. Study the School Guidelines: the school guideline sets the tone for the research, specifies what should be captured in the proposal, outlines the structure of the work, discusses formatting requirements, defines the word count and clarifies any expectations including the marking criteria. Don’t just assume that you know it all, even if it's your second master's Degree; it is better to study and understand than to make mistakes and understand. 2. Check for samples: For every student we support in writing a successful dissertation, we advise them to check for samples of previous dissertations; those written and accepted by the school, those supervised by the allocated supervisors and those related to their areas of interest. When you check samples, you have an idea of what standards have been set and you can understand how to break the records. 3. Find a Topic & Remain Academic: The success or failure of your dissertation depends largely on your topic and we always advise students not to rely solely on AI to craft a research topic. Remember that the research is academic, so there are some ingredients that your topic must have and things to check i.e. availability of materials, research gap, variables of the study, etc. 4. Use AI, Humanising & Paraphrasing tools with caution: You can use AI tools to verify thoughts, interrogate views and guide approach rather than using AI to produce content and use paraphrasing tools to tweak or humanise the text. You risk being caught and the contents will either seem too good to be true or too disorganised. Nobody wants to face a disciplinary panel. 5. Understand your Strengths and Weaknesses, and take action: since research pieces are expected to add value to the world, benefit the academic community and inspire future studies, the place of collaboration cannot be emphasised. Hence, start early to determine what you can do and where you need support. Also, determine what sort of support you require so that you can act appropriately. With the above 5 steps, you can write a successful dissertation in record time. Writing a successful dissertation is always a work in progress. relationship between science and art and how these are related to management
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Saulosi
Interesting question.
Management is, in my opinion, the intrerest in looking for ways to do things better backed up by science.
Ford, inventor of the moving assembly line is a typical example. It requires a lot of engineering effort in developing mathematical models
The result is a consequence of a symbiosis between applying mathematial methodologies and the thinking of manasgers, based on common sense, knwoledge, expertise, humility to learn from others, etc. Of course the decision must always be a human output, the method is on nly a tool.
Until the 50s, management was reduced to selecting projects based on the C/B relations.
At that time, managers realized that a new technique known as AHP would be useful in helping them, because they also were following a hierarchcal lineal procedure, and it could help them in validate what they were doing, and the decistion was right.
However, there were profound social an environmental pressure, that after that date started judging the old procedure, and demanded more participation. This lead to different schemes of industrial organization, being the matrix form apparently the adequate and still used, and opposite to the lineal scheme.
Consequently, managers detected that the AHP procedure, because its rigid structure was no longer useful, and this provoked the appearence of new techniques, pioneered by Kantorovich in 1940 and later made accedsible by Dantzig (The Simplex method), Roy (ELECTRE),and Saaty (ANP), the creator of the AHP. in developing techniques adequate to the new structure.
As can be seen, in this case management promoted the necessity of having new techniques, which made scientists to produce them, in a clear example of symbiosis between management and mathematics.

Hello,
i don't quite understand what difference there is between the term business logic and business model. Are they used synonymously? I know of only one source that says a business model is a business logic when the supply, value creation, marketing and revenue are aligned from a theoretical perspective. Accordingly, one speaks of supply logic, value creation logic, marketing logic and revenue logic.
Is this correct?
Relevant answer
Answer
As I see it, business logic is the way in which the organisation gathers and analyses information that will enable decision makers to implement the business model. i.e. ensure that the decisions taken are supported by information -- the effectiveness of the model can be measured.

Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Fuyu Zhou ,
The journal “International Journal of Academic Pedagogical Research” ISSN 2643-9123 is using a fake impact factor. A common practice of a predatory journal. So, indeed definitely not indexed in Clarivate’s SCIE or SSCI.
The publisher behind this journal "International Journals of Academic Research World" and by definition all journals published by this publisher are most likely predatory. See my previous reply on December 17th, 2020.
So, better avoid.

A virtual team (also known as a geographically dispersed team, distributed team, or remote team]) usually refers to a group of individuals who work together from different geographic locations and rely on communication technology such as email, instant messaging, and video or voice conferencing services in order to collaborate. The term can also refer to groups or teams that work together asynchronously or across organizational levels. Powell, Piccoli and Ives (2004) define virtual teams as "groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed workers brought together by information and telecommunication technologies to accomplish one or more organizational tasks." According to Ale Ebrahim et. al. (2009), virtual teams can also be defined as "small temporary groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed knowledge workers who coordinate their work predominantly with electronic information and communication technologies in order to accomplish one or more organization tasks."

Dear Colleagues
Have you ever had such publishing experience that the editor evaluates your qualitative research according to the rigors of quantitative research?
My story:
The editor of one of the journals assessed (negatively) my article containing a qualitative case study research, according to the quantitative research rigor. He stated:
"The analysis falls well short of the rigor required of an academic publication. No evidence is provided about whether the results would generalize to other settings, apparently there were no control groups, there are no statistical tests, the results did not generate enough clicks or sales to have a clear interpretation, etc. "
I have answered (and waiting for reaction):
"...you assessed it according to the rigor of the quantitative research ("no statistical test", "to generalize"), while my research is qualitative ("to identify categories and/or patterns") and implemented according to the procedure suggested by K. Eisenhardt.
Please read the classic article by Bourgeois and Eisenhardt (attached), which analyzes four observations (stories) and doesn't contain tests. Eisenhardt  is quoted in almost all articles made with the case study (qualitative) research method. Please rate my article according to the principles of the qualitative research rigor."
Bourgeois LJ, III and Eisenhardt KM (1988) Strategic Decision Processes in High Velocity Environments: Four Cases in the Microcomputer Industry. Management Science, Vol. 34, No. 7 (Jul., 1988), pp. 816-835
Have you ever had such experience when editor or reviewer uses quantitative research rigors to assess a qualitative research?
What is your experience as to publishing the qualitative research?

Hallo!
Unfortunately, I faced another example of the use of quantitative study evaluation criteria to evaluate my qualitative study by an editor: "There is a concern that the sample size in your study is rather small – 33 individual interviews. It may not produce robust results ". By the way one of classic sigle case study research (Echeverri and Skålén 2011) did 33 interviews: 'The present article draws mostly on the 34 interviews conducted during the second and third rounds' (Echeverri and Skålén 2011, p. 13)

Depending on the maturity of the studies on the topic, you will need to use different approaches. Studies that present uniform questions and constructs may indicate the possibility of using a quantitative approach, including meta-analyzes. For topics that have not yet reached this degree of maturity, you will need to use qualitative approaches.

These days there is a trend uploading working papers in Researcgate, SSRN and MPRA. Some publishers don't mind it but some journals reject papers because when find that 70 to 80% of submitted papers are plagiarized with initial drafts or working papers submitted in research repositories. This problem becomes aggravated when your paper is submitted in MPRA which don't allow you to remove paper from their database. Therefore, what should be a way out if your paper is being rejected because its initial draft is in MPRA? Please respond to this question keeping in view the management science field especially.

Pre-prints are becoming common in more and more academic disciplines. And this may be true in management science as well. Pre-prints are uploads of your manuscript to a pre-print server, with the goals of putting a time stamp on your research, potentially receiving a persistent identifier (like a DOI or permanent link) and garnering any early feedback from peers prior to publication. That said, there are some journals that do accept manuscripts already posted to a pre-print server and some that do not. A good method to find out whether a journal does accept a manuscript that's already in a pre-print server is to check this website called SHERPA/RoMEO: http://sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/index.php
That said, I'm not certain that MPRA is a pre-print server. But rather a repository for publication of papers and works that allow posting in copyright agreements. SSRN is a pre-print repo. And at the following link you'll find more pre-print servers and disciplines covered: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17RgfuQcGJHKSsSJwZZn0oiXAnimZu2sZsWp8Z6ZaYYo/edit#gid=0

The management sciences appeared at least 2500 years ago, primarily due to military necessities, among the most remarkable works being the "Art of war" by Sun Tzu and have evolved continuously, especially in the socio-economic fields. In the third millennium, through realistic and cyber-simulated economic and social modeling, one can anticipate the results of any managerial and governance decision, with sufficient precision. However, higher education does not bring to the attention of new generations the need to move from a government based on political and religious dogmas, that is, on the basis of private privileges - against public ones, to a government based on the results of science - that is, on sustainable development and prosperity. to all citizens of the world in harmony with nature, perfectly achievable at the level of the productivity of today's work What should scientific research and higher education do in this regard?
Relevant answer
Answer
It is unanimously accepted that politics is a game of power, a game of interests. And those who come to power try to freeze the minds of as many individuals as possible to manipulate their minds and keep the power. Unfortunately, a large part of human beings still prefer to absolutely believe in something rather than thinking, asking questions and looking for answers. If management science is to be used in the governance of countries, the brains manipulation would no longer be successful. Those who lead on scientific principles would be quickly removed by those who have the talent of mass manipulation for their own interest. This is due to the tribal nature of the human being, therefore dogmas are proving to be stronger in the governance processes of any kind. Scientific research and higher education can further develop management sciences, but science is for open-minded fellows while many individuals insist on absolute beliefs (dogmas) and this is exploited by the current and future politicians.

Why science, technology, and engineering? Because those are the fields in which there is demand, ease of access, and mobility, unlike the situation for people with softer skills or for professionals in certain fields (e.g. medicine) in which their credentials aren't accepted at face value and they must go through longish retraining/recertification periods. The folks I know who left from Pakistan and the Middle East were more concerned about stability and freedom and a better life for their children than excessive materialism; they lead modest lifestyles and their desires for comfort and a material safety net are quite middling.

Construction field today is generally seen as a management science, but in my opinion it is supposed to be an engineering science.
This epistemological difference in attitude has much to do with construction scientists not being serious about finding a solution to this problem in an industry that is so vast and so well funded.
Even today there is no satisfactory theory to explain construction process. What do you feel?
Relevant answer
Answer
Safeer Ali, I would also respectfully disagree with you.
The entire construction process needs to evolve and change it's mentality in order to increase productivity and reduce delays. And researchers have been on the case for a few decades now with BIM, the space planning ( https://ascelibrary.org/doi/pdf/10.1061/%28ASCE%290733-9364%281994%29120%3A1%2896%29 ) and The Lean Construction ( http://www.leanconstruction.org/media/docs/Koskela-TR72.pdf). One of the objectives of those works is to increase the collaboration between stakeholders.
So, in that regard, for the design phase, a proper use of BIM is probably the way to go. You can look at the work of Professor Daniel Forgue (https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=FXCB-qwAAAAJ&hl=en&authuser=1&oi=ao) for more information on how BIM will help the construction industry.
Then, the works mentioned by
Peter E.D Love
, have prove there positive effects on construction project managements.
And for the construction phase, proper planning techniques are essentials to prevent delays. So, you can look at the following work
- Iris D. Tommelein and the Takt-Time Planning ( )
- Adel Francis and The Chronographical Modeling

Why do you think they are key success factors? Can you tell a story that you witnessed that provides evidence for the need of a success factor you mentioned?
Relevant answer
Answer
Maria, I'm probably thinking differently about this than you. One of the places I used to work at had a team of engineers, planners, biologists, GIS techs, etc. It was understood that no one professional had any specific 'authority' over any of the rest - we all listened and respected all views.
In my travels, one of the weaknesses I have found in the study of Sustainability Science is the narrowness of academia - we end up with 'an inch wide and a mile deep', because that is the quickest to train and saleable at the highest price. But that does no good when dealing with the complexities of Sustainability. Knowing that, some of the universities around here are advertising that they are trying to build up the 'T-shaped' engineer; in effect, having lots of depth in one narrow field, and a little coverage in everything else. But the 'everything-else' tends not to include history, political science, psychology, etc - all required to actually implement any kind of complex socio-econo-biological systemic change.
My advice would be to include several 'Expert Generalists' - maybe not academics, but with a broad enough background to be able to communicate with all of the Specialists, and note where the gaps and weaknesses are. People pleased with challenging orthodoxy, and not afraid of argument. The generalists may end up being the core team, using specialists on demand to answer key questions.

I need to review a study in which the authors have applied an OLS regression to test the influence of variable A on variable B. From a methodological point of view, everything seems to be fine. However, the authors have formulated a research hypothesis (not null hypothesis!) that goes like this: "Variable A has no influence on variable B."
In my research field (business and management science), I have actually never come across a hypothesis that assumes no relationship between two variables. Therefore, my question is whether this is a valid formulation of a research hypothesis for OLS regression?

I believe it is not possible unless the nature of research is qualitative. If the research is quantitative, the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis (H0 not H1) should be used.

Hello, I am Karen, I am starting my Phd in Business and Management sciences, and I am interested in do research about social entrepreneurship, I started with entrepreneurial ecosystems, but I would like to know If could be a good idea to put the both topics together, if not, I would be more aligned to the Social Entrepreneurship, if someone can help me to find gaps in this area, I would be so grateful, and I want to apply it for Mexico, but I am struggling about to which path follow, so if someone better informed about this topic can help me I would appreciate it.
Relevant answer
Answer
I think it's an oxymoron - the concept of entrepreneurial ecosystems (with profit motivation as the central idea that ignites processes) and social entrepreneurship where the extent of motivation for profiteering for the purpose of growth in the social endeavour becomes self contradictory altogether.
Ideally, you should start off with South American social services sector, do some study of existing institutions that have engaged in these ideas. You might wish to expand your search to include multiple countries and then narrow them down to Mexico.
This is what I advise you do:
1. Define the area of social entrepreneurship you wish to pursue, is it micro financing (hot topic of research), infrastructure growth, education and/or a host of other areas. South America is known to have so many co-operatives that keep popping up due to that region's socialist tendencies. Use these ideas.
2. Once you have a area of focus, you should select most popular case studies in these areas, not just out of Mexico, but other countries too. Consider exploring countries like Bangladesh or India or Africa or Indonesia too - you can study these countries for the kind of schemes they have that sustain NGO-driven entrepreneurial ecosystems and then once you find a type you think you can best discuss in your thesis, find the equivalent (or a lack of an equivalent, you can use your thesis to justify) service.
3. Identify your tools and conduct surveys etc. I always think getting data is so very important.
4. Once your data is in, consider explaining your findings/hypotheses accordingly.
PhD is a good way to explore areas, so don't feel daunted, as long as you have an idea about what you want to write about, you should more or less be able to do so - just don't give in to intimidation, discuss with your colleagues and supervisor. Refer to the university's existing libraries for archived theses with similar ideas.
What helps me most is reading published work and theses written by others, it gives you some idea over the theme and direction to take. But choose something you have a solid exposure of and feel passionately about! It's better to write about something you feel strongly about than something you have no interest or knowledge of!
Good luck, hope this helps!

I am trying to optimize a function that is non-linear in parameters, three in number. I am using Genetic Algorithms (GA) for this purpose. Thus, I have a function of time that is non-linear in three parameters as time-series data. I am using the ga() function of the GA package in R language for the purpose. However, as I see, the initial values that I set for the parameters heavily influences the parameters computed by the ga() function. I also read the following article:
Scrucca, L. (2013). GA: a package for genetic algorithms in R. Journal of Statistical Software, 53(4), 1-37.
In section 4.4 Curve Fitting, if I use the following initial values (min, max): a(1000, 10,000), b(0,10), and c(0.5, 10) instead of the ones used, that is a(3000, 4000), b(0, 1) and c(2, 4) I get completely different results from the ones obtained by the paper. I get a=2772, b=.0235, c=4.07 as against a= 3534.741, b=0.01575454, c= 2.800797 in the paper.
My understanding is that global optimization techniques such as GA would be able to find out global optima irrespective of initial values although it might take more or less iterations depending on the initial values of parameters. Why is this not happening in case of my function and also the example that I cited?
Thanking you all in advance.
Relevant answer
Answer
There is no guarantee to obtain a global optimal solution with any metaheuristic, unless you make near infinite iterations. Also, because GAs are random, the solution obtained may be different in any moment. If you can use another method to obtain a good approximation to the optimal solution, GA will improve it.

There is not doubt that the DM needs data for establishing his preferences.
That applies nicely  for instance, for a company contracting new personnel
One of the criteria could be for example 'quality level' (according company standards), or 'lowest performance accepted' (tolerance to company needs), or 'level of expertise' (according to complexity of a work position).
In this case the DM knows what he or his company wants, and also he needs data. This data may come in the form of presentations made by potential candidates. Then studying potential candidates background the DM can make sound decisions.
This is the way used by entreprenerurs, headhunters and Human Resouces Departments to contract new personnel, although probably they don't use much MCDM methods
However, if in the case of purchasing equipment for instance, the DM gets from the purchaqsing or engineering department firm values for say three different equipments, which is the function of the DM?
Is he going to modify firm values according to his experience?
That is, what can the DM say about the criterion 'Cost of equipment'? Is he going to correct homologated values from suppliers because his preferences?
For another criterion such as 'Performance of equipment from other users', the DM will also may have information perhaps not quantitative but linguistics, as 'very good', 'reliable', 'por performance' and so on. He can translate those values into cardinals by different methods, but where are his preferences?
I would like very much if somebody could explain me this, because I never undrestood the role of the DM when there are quantitative values, nor when he is addressing aspects that he CAN'T have complete information, that is involving a large quantity of people.
How can he decide for thousands?
In addition, and as other colleagues suggest, the selection can be based on 'related literature', I am afraid that I disagree, because each project is unique, each project has its own demands and restrictions, and projects can involve different fields such as Medicine, Geology, Environment, Social issues, etc, at the same time, nor shared by others
In my modest opinjon practitioners must study  their projects very consciously and then select the criteria according to them. Of course, he can extract information from other SIMILAR projects, but this is only illustrative.
The DM has to créate his own criteria considering posible and even unforfeseen aspects of the projects, no matter if he needs 5, 10 or 78 criteria for that.

For testing work rules or policies, I am looking for scales which would allow to measure the perceived legitimacy of a rule or a policy. I looked into field beyond economics and management sciences and hoped to find tested scales there or even beyond in areas like criminology. So far I am not successful. And did not even find a hint. Any hint will help at this stage.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Michael,
I am surprised of finding this very interesting question. I did research on a policy rule and had to tackle very difficult practical and theoretical issues, apparently moving in an almost unexplored terrain. I understand therefore your question of perceived legitimacy in the following way. 1. A policy rule can offer an advantage to a social group, compared to other groups: under this viewpoint, perceived legitimacy has to do with perceived social utility of the policy rule. I would expect a scale measuring legitimacy as perceived social utility being inversely correlated with the self-perception of being part of a social group that does not benefit or is disadvantaged from the policy rule. 2. I would also expect that a an higher degree of conformism generally increases perceived legitimacy for "all rules", regardless their content, aims, effectiveness. There are social personality scales measuring traits of conformism or authoritarianism at individual level (authoritarian personality scales). 3. At a more general level, I would think about the cultural or political environment: how far the culture legitimates having "opinions" about rules? The most authoritarian assertions might sounds like: "rules are just rules and you have just to conform to them". Societies where this assertion is frequently spoken, heard, or just assumed, do not worry about legitimacy of rules. Sometimes they may allow questioning the procedure adopted in order to introduce a rule, which is the legal interpretation of the word legitimacy, but it does not have anything to do with perception... I would expect a less authoritarian society admitting a public debate about the utility of specific rules, their effectiveness, who takes advantage from those rules, and so forth. Therefore, thank you for asking your interesting question.

I am facing problem while conducting moderation analysis, anyone can tell me the procedure of performing "Moderation analysis" by using AMOS (Structural equation modeling)
the data is primary (5 point Likert scale)
Relevant answer
Answer
There are few steps involved in performing moderator:
1. Split data into two groups based on the moderator variable to be tested
2. Save data into two separate files: Names the files as dataset 1 and data set 2
3. Select the path interest in the model to test the moderator variable
4. Develop two separate AMOS models: Rename as model 1 and model 2
5. In Model 1, constraint the parameter in the path interest to be equal to 1
6. Name model 1 as the constrained model
7. In Model 2 do not constraint the relationship in the path of interest
8. Name model 2 as the unconstrained model
9. Use dataset 1: Estimate the constrained model
10. Use the same dataset 1: Estimate the unconstrained model
11. Obtain the chisquare difference value between the constrained and unconstrained model. The value should be differs by more than 3.84, then the moderation occurs in that path.
12. Repeat the same procedure using dataset 2.

Workplace Democracy seems to be discussed in the US more than in Europe, maybe due to Europe's stronger trade unions' traditions. In democratic theory, a renaissance of these discussions from the 1970s is not yet visible in Europe, it seems. I am wondering if you know more about this.
Relevant answer
Answer
Vasilis is right: the area gaining prominence is the transnational dimension of workplace democracy. Here you have the examples and debates around the European Works Councils, workers' representation and paricipationin the European Company (Societas Europaea) and European Cooperative + SCE. A very interesting area to keep an eye on is the emerging level of transnational collective bargaining in form of Transnational Company Agreements (TCAs) and International Framework Agreements. Further on, the existing concepts and debates need to be extended as far as articulation (linking) between the national and local levels of workplace democracy and those on transnational level. A lot of reasearch on this has been conduced by the European Trade Union Institute, Hans Boeckler Foundation in Germany and the Dublin Foundation.

Operations research is variously domiciled in mathematics, industrial engineering, economics, management science, etc, depending on the university.
Relevant answer
Answer
I think the term "Operations Research" is not so much a "discipline" or a "speciality" as it is a toolset. What an interesting question you're asking, though.
No single department in an institution should "claim" OR as their domain. Unfortunately that does happen, and there is much of the OR basics that will get duplicated if each interested department teaches it in-house. But the proverbial "devil" is indeed in the details. When you get to domain-specific applications, the "tool" comes to its rightful use, but only in the hands of an expert. A statistician may not have an appreciation for complex capacitated arc routing problem (like waste collection), and similarly an industrial engineer building intricate simulation models of a bottling line or mining operation may not appreciate whether the solution space is concave or convex.
More recently I also see departments "fight" about where "Data Science" should be housed.
It is because OR is such a "generally applicable" tool that it can (and should) be applied in "specialist" domains.

I am looking for a metric that can be used to assess the quality of research especially in the social and management sciences.
Relevant answer
Answer
Certainly, Impact factor.
However, it depends on several factors: whether your academic board considers impact factor for journals for promotion purposes or not.
As a general rule, the quality research should depend on the contents of the paper and not the journal to which it is published. This is probably one of the strongest case for open access publishing. Academic boards that understand the monopoly around 3 and 4 star journals do not solely rely on the impact factor.
The h-index is the real deal now.
I use the h-index of an author to know his/her influence in his field.

Relevant answer
diversity is now a management approach that is part of the strategic discourse of leaders. While this approach covers different approaches, it requires the mobilization of all with the objective of social justice. The legal framework for the fight against discrimination was a trigger-oriented promotion of diversity management practices. This diversity reflects our society, is an economic and social challenge for companies. In modern organizations, whose borders are increasingly broadened, manager diversity is obvious, a fact they face Corporate Social Responsibility of Business is now a performance boost for the company and launched in 2004 by a labor movement of the Diversity Charter is a real awareness of the leaders of the challenge represented by the management diversity that complements existing devices against discrimination and for equality within the company. The diversity management can be defined as the management of people in the development of their respective differences and the pooling of these differences (BENDER 2006).

This is the difference between a Demand verses a Supply Strategy for entering a market.
Customer driven innovation is an innovation that is created in response to an unmet need in the market place. This is a demand function. The force driving the innovational processes is the demand by a segment of the market for the solution to a problem they perceive. An example would be a smaller more efficient power source for a cell phone.:Customers demand lighter cell phones with a longer battery life and will respond to any innovation that satisfies those needs by supporting the introduction of such a product. (Demand strategy)
A customer centered innovation is an innovation created by the seller to address a need he/she perceives in the market or a specific niche in the market. This is a supply function. The force driving the innovation will be the innovator. The innovator will have to "push" the innovation into the market. For example an App for a cell phone that enables a customer to pay for a cup of coffee using the App with their cell phone rather than with cash or a credit/debt card. Here the customer has many choices for buying and paying for his/her cup of coffee and the inventor or innovation must compete with these. (Supply strategy).

Hi Arun, i think your philosophy should not be based on your topic. Rather the other way around, according to your philosophy, you should pic the appropriate methodology and data collection/analysis approaches. It depends on what research you want to apply, an inductive or deductive approach, where you either explore a phenomenon that results in a theory, or you test a theory, respectively. I am sure you can use quantitative techniques in order to test certain propositions, which would be aligned with a more positivist philosophy. However, there is a lot of interpretation and rigour necessary in order to identify your philosophical standpoint. Hope this helps, and i am not a doctor yet, work is still in progress...

In many areas we have witnessed convergence of technologies to create integrated products and systems. As examples consider the way Google has been merging ideas and technologies to produce integrated solutions. Not so long ago Navigation solutions were the main stay of a number of firms, but with Google Maps (convergence of mapping, navigation and the web) and the Navigation features it has, I wonder who is now willing to pay for such solutions elsewhere? Hence, begging the question, what has happened to the firms and their employees that engaged in developing these systems? If this convergence trend continues, don't we then have a real threat of having sophisticated systems replacing our labor force?
Relevant answer
Answer
Convergence of technologies does not happen overnight! People who are well versed with old technologies are in a better position to innovate, adapt and migrate into integrated technologies (because they already know the foundation and basic building blocks). Technologies, processes will keep converging and merging but it will be people who will drive the change. So, the old workforce will need to learn new tricks as time passes by. No resting and no rusting please!

A vast array of self-administered questionnaires have been used to measure staff satisfaction for the sake of improving productivity. Are these the best measuring tool? What are their disadvantages and what are the alternatives?
Relevant answer
Answer
Based on my experience of 30 years in a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors, I see the following limitations:
Coverage:
- employee satisfaction surveys (ESS) are, in many cases, not able to cover the entire staff: 1. not every employee chooses to participate, 2. specifically for electronic ESS: only those employees can participate that have access to IT - usually a big portion of blue color workers do not.
- ESS need to be kept short for acceptance reasons. Even if questions refer to corporate and depart level, there will be motivational factors on individual level that can not be captured.
- ESS need to contain the same questions to be comparable year-over-year. However, the work environment changes, which would necessitate to include new aspects.
Reliability of results:
- Even if the ESS is accompanied by a motivation letter that elaborates on confidentiality and anonymity, some employees - especially those in organizations with culture / value / leadership deficits - hesitate to give true answers.
Impact:
- ESS primarily show staff satisfaction in an aggregate fashion on corporate and eventually department level. This does not yet help to identify the areas where there is need for action. On the one hand, they do not identify those individual or groups that are less satisfied, on the other hand they do not identify the root cause(s) for dissatisfaction. So, ESS alone are not sufficient to take action and effectively improve employee satisfaction.
To summarize: ESS are an important tool for measuring employee satisfaction, but other instruments are needed to provide a more complete and reliable picture, as well as a sound basis for improvement action.
The most efficient tools are provided by performance management and leadership.
- Performance management:
The (bi-)annual staff dialogue is a central element of systematic performance management. It is based on face-to-face communication between the employee and his/her manager/supervisor.
Whereas the scope goes beyond employee satisfaction and includes individual target setting, performance review and consequences, the staff dialogue provides a perfect platform for the manager to gauge the individual satisfaction, identify (de-) motivation factors, root causes and ways and means to improve.
- Leadership:
As the manager is ultimately responsible for the performance of his/her direct reports, the manager will use a set of instruments that indicate his/her team members satisfaction. These instruments are chosen by the manager according to his/her personal preferences and circumstances. They may include personal interaction during tasks performed together, workshops, lunch, etc. During this personal interaction the manager can observe the employee, his interaction with others, his attitude, the messages about his satisfaction that he sends deliberately or unintentionally. In addition to that, the manager will seek feed-back from peers, direct reports and his line manager(s).
To summarize:
Employee satisfaction surveys together with staff dialogue and leadership provide an effective and efficient tool set for an organization that uses employee satisfaction as one important lever to achieve target productivity.

Evidence sometimes stands in the way of what managers want to do (I speak from the UK perspective). John Maynard Keynes said it all (substitute management for government, evidence-based for well informed) "there is nothing a government hates more than to be well-informed; for it makes the process of arriving at decisions much more complicated and difficult." For example, we have had several major re-organisations in our National Health Service without any heed to the research into the effects of previous ones. We are moving to a more market system despite international evidence that this multiple provides push up administration costs without any increase in quality.
