i'm a 1st year doctoral student, working on "deep learning applications in engine control and diagnostics", so far i've had to create a number of models. However, I'm having trouble training these models to assess their accuracy, due to a lack of data. The data in question are, on the one hand, cylinder pressure, cylinder temperature, compression ratio....etc, which can characterize the state of health of a part or an associated engine component. On the other hand, data from certain parts whose state of health can be determined by vibrations.

for my current research project I am trying to trace the effects of a CJEU verdict in 2011 via migratory activity of scientists. To do so, I need to obtain data that shows a year-name-affiliation link for scientists working in the respective field. So far I have used Scopus, but the database gives me the information in a format that is impossible to work with. I could do this by hand, but I would rather avoid sorting several thousand entries by hand, so I was hoping that there was a database that would enable me to retrieve the required information in a standardized format. So far I have tried Web of Science, Scopus, JSTOR, PubMed and Publish or Perish, but to no avail.

I conducted some experiments using strain gauges mounted in a wheelchair hand rim to determine differences in push force over a short course. Changes in tire type and tire pressure are related to differences in strain measurements over the course. The differences are statistically significant but are expressed as mV/V which are the raw strain gauge outputs. I have mass, distance, and time over the course.
It could be done if you "calibrate" strain gauge measurement using known force applied on the hand rim, and then you could measure real applied force during the movement.
Also, you should have measurement of the rotational velocity, or RPM of the wheel.

Such theory basically gives the thicknesses (n*lambda1/2) at which the object is theoretically acoustically transparent - of course, the width of the reduced reflection depends on the impedance mismatch between the 2 media – and the thicknesses ([2n-1]*lambda1/4) at which the object is fully reflective.
On the other hand, there is also theory giving the variation of the reflection coefficient depending on the incident angle of acoustic plane waves at the interface between two semi-infinite media (rho0, c0; rho1, c1). Over a critical angle (depending on the impedance mismatch between the two media), the reflection is theoretically total.
Now, here is my question: What is the behavior of the acoustic waves when the two phenomena are considered at the same time? If the plane waves reach a surface with an incident angle, and the reflective medium is finite in thickness (acoustic mirror)?
By experience and through simulations, it appears that over the critical angle, the reflection is not total, even with a mirror thickness for which the reflection is theoretically total.

Usually the code can be optimised: same algorithm but less computing time, less memory (well, sometimes _far_ less). Now, for the quality of the results if you find a _sure_ way to improve it ((for a given search effort, of course, like a number of evaluations) publish it quickly!

I've been doing a EFA with ML extraction and Promax rotation, whereby three factors were extracted. For reporting the results, I was wondering whether to use the 'Initial Eigenvalues' or the 'Extracted Sums of Squared Loadings' (see file attached). On the one hand, initial Eigenvalues are the ones used for parallel analysis, but on the other hand - as least as far as I'm aware of - the cumulative % of variance explained that is reported is the one below 'Extracted Sums of Squared Loadings'.
Could someone please elaborate what those two mean and which one to choose? I'd highly appreciate your help.

I have been growing both HEK cells and primary fibroblasts and they grow fine in 10 cm dishes. After passaging them to 6 well plates I observe slow growth of HEK cell in all the sides of the well compared to the middle. While on the other hand , fibroblasts show complete empty space on the sides and this sometimes happen after changing the media ( many cells detach creating empty spaces only on the sides of the well, while the middle part have healthy cells growing fine). any thoughts regarding this is appreciated.
I have the same problem only with 6-well plates. I think it's related with the edge effect. I really don't have other explanation.
I have seeded same day, 96-well plates (avoiding the edge wells), 24 well-plates (avoiding the edge wells) and 6 well-plates, same media, same cell density and same coating. After reaching confluence all the plates looked great except the 6 well-plates (and curiously the two central wells look better than the corner ones). Some of the 6-well plates I have had to completely discard. It must be something related with the edge effect and media evaporation. In all other plates formats, you can avoid edge wells except in 6-wells.
I don't have a solution for this problem, I have dealt with it by replacing media every one/two days depending on cell types. Also be very alert when cells reach confluence, you may need to change media every day to keep them happy. I would NOT leave them 3 days without changing media after they reach confluence because there is going to be a lot of apoptosis.

I'd like to confirm whether my approach falls under Grounded Theory and how it can be classified – deductive, inductive, or a combination of both.
I wonder if it's appropriate to refer to my research approach in an empirical study as mixed methods.

This is certainly not grounded theory because you have not alternated data collection and data analysis in the systematic fashion required by that method. To be mixed methods research you would need to integrate the results from qualitative and quantitative methods, but it sounds like your N would be too small to produce meaningful quantitative results.
That leaves exploratory research, would be a good match to a thematic analysis.

This is the reason why the current definition of double and triple integration is incomplete.
Brief,
Time is part of an inseparable block of space-time and therefore,
geometric space is the other part of the inseparable block of space-time.
In other words, you can perform integration using the x-t space-time unit with wide applicability and excellent speed and accuracy.
On the other hand, the classical mathematical methods of integration using the FDM technique in the geometric Cartesian space alone x can still be applied but only in special cases and it is to be expected that their results are only a limit of success.
Double and triple integration are mathematical tools used to calculate the area and volume of regions in two and three-dimensional space, respectively. These integrals are extensions of single integration, which is used to calculate the area under a curve.
The calculation of double and triple integrals involves dividing the region of interest into smaller pieces and summing up the contributions from each piece. This process can become very complex, especially for irregularly shaped regions.
However, the use of integration in spacetime is a concept from physics, where time is treated as a fourth dimension in addition to the three spatial dimensions. In this case, integration in spacetime is used to calculate quantities such as the trajectory of a particle or the spacetime interval between two events.
In the curved spacetime of general relativity, integration is over the Riemannian spacetime. The volume element in this curved spacetime is 4-dimensional and, in principle, the general solution requires a quadruple integral (special cases integrate along a contour which is out of the topic). The 4D volume element in the curved Riemannian spacetime necessarily includes the Jacobian determinant which transforms the flat 4D Galilean spacetime coordinates used in special relativity to the curved Riemannian spacetime coordinates. For the above transformation of coordinates, it is proven that the Jacobian is equal to sqrt(-g) where g is the determinant of the spacetime metric. Thus, all integrations include the 4D volume element dOmega multiplied by sqrt(-g) which corrects for curvature by the respective changes in the measurement units (for length and time).

I am a Ph.D. student and I am working on the production scheduling of an open-pit mine by genetic algorithm, and I have a problem with converting infeasible sequencing to a feasible one, so I need someone to help me. how can I create a normalized plan based on a completely random solution? on the other hand, how can I change the time periods that I assigned to genes of the chromosomes or all blocks of the ultimate pit? I don't know any normalization methods for obtaining a feasible sequencing, and I studied some papers related to it, but the normalization methods the authors used, have not been stated in detail!
Technically, if your model is an Integer Programming model then you need an algorithm for finding a feasible solution.

While checking whether the elementary particle reaction is possible, we multiply parity of each particle on left hand side and right hand side and check whether they are equal or not whereas we add energy on left hand side and right hand side and check whether they are equal or not. What determines whether we have to add or multiply ?
In elementary particle reactions, the parity of each particle and the energy conservation must be considered. Parity is a quantum mechanical property that describes how a particle behaves under spatial inversion, which is a reflection of the coordinates of the particle about a chosen origin.
When checking whether a reaction is possible or not based on parity, we multiply the parity of each particle on the left-hand side by the parity of each particle on the right-hand side of the reaction. This is because parity is a multiplicative quantum number, meaning that the total parity of the system is obtained by multiplying the parities of the individual particles.
On the other hand, energy conservation is a conservation law that requires the total energy of the system before the reaction to be equal to the total energy of the system after the reaction. In this case, we add the energy on the left-hand side of the reaction to the energy on the right-hand side of the reaction and check whether they are equal or not.
Therefore, the decision to add or multiply depends on the property being considered. Parity is a multiplicative property and energy conservation is an additive property.

I have a set of data from three groups across 3 time points (2 groups are subjected to an intervention and the third acts as control). I want to evaluate intra and inter-group differences between these time points for a given variable. However, at baseline evaluation, one group data is significantly lower compared to the others. I thought maybe I could analyze data from a percentage standpoint, say first assessment is 0% and afterwards intragroup difference is 15% or whatever. I believe this is possible for intragroup analysis but I´m not sure if it is possible for inter-group analysis.
On the other hand, I could just analyze raw data instead of transforming it but this may lead to some issues that I´ll probably have to adress in the discussion.
Any idea on what can I do?

After entering into the environment, TWPs is largely various and complicated due to its various tire brands, tire application and tire size, which are considered have different component. On the one hand, we could use different techniques of SEM/TEM, FTIR to characterize TWPs' morphology and size after collecting by density seperation, even particle level, which are regared to be time consuming and hardworking. On the other hand, some analytical markers like 6-PPD, SBR, BR and NR could be used to determine TWPs' levels in the environment. But it seems that some analytical markers have other sources but not only from tires tread. And most importanly, after determining markers, we need to use markers levels in tire tread to convert the determined markers levels to TWPs levels in the environment. At my mind, it is tricky to obtain markers levels accurately due to various tire brands, appliations and size. Thus, in this field, how could we determine TWPs levels accurately in the environment? I hope have your kind points.

This objection in gone into in some depth in Barter's book, in a chapter called "Some Paradoxical Result of Reciprocity".
And is the following :
The problem is : to one observer the other appears to have a shortened rod, and to the other observer, the shortened rod is with the first observer. They can't both be right.
The same is true of time. To one observer the hands of the other chap's clock run slow, while to other observer the hands of the first chap's clock run slow. They can't both be right.
In both cases above we have a perfectly symmetrical experimental setup-- each observer is moving uniformly with respect to the other observer. All is identical.

My view is that Dingle and Barter are not wrong--- but that a new way of looking at it is required. I think that way is "intersubjectivity". It's the observers that have to be brought into the problem, just as they were in Quantum Theory.
Once more: it’s wrong, because it doesn’t make the distinction between quantities that are invariant under l9bal Lorentz transformations and those that aren’t.
There isn’t a principle of relativity, if it doesn’t mention the transformations.

Hello, I am intending to set up a numercial model in Abaqus of an FDM process with a simple specimen, but I want to cumulate the heat flux of each element and correlate this with the Young's modulus using a degradation factor. I am using Abaqus plugin AM-Modeler to set up the FDM process. Furthermore, I use an USDFLD subroutine to store the HFL in an SDV in the heat transfer step and an UMAT subroutine to degrade the material propterties in the static step. On the one hand, I can run an Abaqus model built up with the AM-Modeler plugin. On the other hand, the subroutine works perfectly in a dummy model. But I cannot run them in the same model.
I am pretty sure, this is related to the env-file (attached) which is necessery to run the plugin. If this env-file is not in the working directory, I get the error: "USER SUBROUTINE UEPACTIVATIONVOL IS MISSING". If the env-file is in the working directory, everything works fine. But when I include the subroutine in the run, I get the same error. May you have any suggestions, how I could solve this problem? May you know what this env-file is doing? Kind regards Daniel Köhler

Im stuck with a statistical question of one subchapter:
We have two groups surgeons versus non surgeons. We test the sensibility of the hand with wearing different size of gloves: fitted, undersized, oversized, and comparing them to bare hands (control).
Our questions are:
1) does glove fit alter the sensibility?
2) is sensibility of undersized gloves comparable to bare hand?
3) is there a difference in sensibility between surgeons and non surgeons when wearing gloves?
I believe that the control group=bare hands has to be excluded in the Two Way analysis, regarding to the question 1) and 3) since they require wearing gloves. Should the Question 2) analyzed separately with a one way ANOVA?

Yes, you should include your control group when doing any analysis because you will want to know if there is a difference between the control group and the experimental conditions. For example, you would have no way of knowing if having a bare hand is different than wearing an oversized glove. By including your control group it allows you to statistically determine if there is (or is not) a difference.
You could still use a two-way ANOVA with your questions, though. Here is what I would do (use your judgment for your own research)
1). Glove fit + surgeon status as predictor of sensitivity
This will give you a comparison of is a surgeon with no gloves has different sensitivity compare to non-surgeons who have over-fitted gloves, etc.
2). Will be taken care of in the above analysis. When you run your two-way ANOVA, be sure your analysis will report interaction effects and multiple comparisons.
3). This will also be taken care of in the first analysis.
A two-way ANOVA with interaction effects and multiple comparisons will report if there is a difference between surgeons and non-surgeons' sensitivity while wearing gloves of different thicknesses.

If you from your 28 questions create a total sum lucid dream dependent variable and do a linear regression analysis with your categorical variables as predictors you need to add also a continuous variable as predictor like age or some other continuous variable. From the squared part correlation you ee how many % each predictor contribute with to the total variance. From the beta you see if the contribution is positive or negative.
If you do the other way around you can do a logistic regression analysis with the dependent variable coded as 0 and 1, then use the continuous and other variables as predictors.

A straightforward way to find a research gap or research question or challenge over the problem at hand, e.g., in your case gesture recognition. The best and unique way is to start literature review. In literature review you will have to read about the previous works over gesture recognition. You may download various research papers over techniques/algorithms for the problem at hand. In the review processes 3 to 6 months or upto year (first year of your PhD), you will understand the research gap or research question. You will then have to adopt some methodology to solve it.

I have a challenge – if not even a problem. Hope you have time to read my note.
We have two ways to think and compute the average standard errors of the measurement (S.E.m.). On the one hand, we have the traditional way based on the reliability of the score, that is, SError = SQRT(SError^2) =SQRT(S^2X×(1-REL) where S^2X is the estimated population variance and REL is an estimate of reliability. This is the basic formula based on definition of reliability. On the other hand, we can calculate the standard error based on the measurement model related to factor models, that is, SError = SQRT(SError^2) =SQRT(SUM(1-Lambda^2) = k - SQRT(SUM(Lambda^2), where k is the number of items in the test and Lambda^2 is the square of the factor loading, that is, (essentially) the correlation between an item and the factor score.
A challenge in these forms is obvious if both the items and score are standardized, as is assumed in the latter form. Then, the estimated population variance is S^2X = 1, and the former estimator gets the form SError = SQRT(1-REL). Always, the magnitude of the standard errors will be SError < 1. Contrary, the latter estimator may give estimates with magnitude greater than 1 up to SError > 8.0 when the number of items increase. That is, the outcomes differ radically from each other. Which one is more credible or are they both off the truth?
If we take credible the idea that the error variance has a cumulative nature related to the number of items, it seems that the estimator based on factor loadings gives us more credible estimate of standard error of the measurement instead of the formula based on reliability (e.g., Omega). We may ask, why would the true standard error not exceed SError = 0.63 – this would be obtained with test reliability of REL = 0.60? However, let us assume a hypothetical test with 100 items with the item–score correlation of wi = 0.4 in each item We would come up with the standard error of SError > 7.7. A relevant question is, how it would be even possible that a score compiled of 100 items with standardized scores to have S.E.m. of a magnitude of more than 7 standard units when the lower boundaries of reliability of the score would be very high?
This phenomenon puzzles me. Have you been thinking this issue? Any ideas of what explains the discrepancy between the outcome of the formulae.
