Dear all,
I made a research of UTAUT 2 using PLS (Smart PLS program). According to some variables I had Alfa Cronbach below 0,7, in one case it was very low - about 0,2. My question deal with my future research, because it was my first technology acceptance research using PLS. What should I do to keep variables above 0,7 or what mistake I probably made with my previous research that I had so small result in Alfa Cronbach test? I will be grateful for an advise for the future. :)

Hello, as part of my Dissertation Project I am conducting an item analysis. I used a 2x2 mixed design ANOVA (recommended by my supervisor) to conduct this. I unfortunately got no significant interactions between any of my items...I am not too sure what I should say for this or if I should dwell on it for too long in the discussion? At the moment I think it means that my items do not act in the way they were meant to...so does this undermine my whole experiment? Or would I just advise that future research uses different items to measure what I am intending to measure? Thank you in advance.

So, where there is more hostility than kindness i would expect a switch to a period with more kindness than hostility, and so on.
So, whoever wants a less hostile environment must stop trying to be kind.

Migration has become more a political phenomenon compared to its economic and social nature. There is a need to develop a political theory of migration to counter the so called migration crisis. Migration today stands in direct conflict with the nation-state and is likely to shape its existence. Although many countries do recognize migration as a fundamental right for their citizens but not across the borders. One the other hand, citizens of more privileged countries enjoy visa free movement across most of the parts of the world. Opportunity and restrictions on international migration shows huge inequity in the international political and economic order.
On the other hand, within the national borders the protection of cultural identity and the politics of privilege in the name of sons of soil wrecking havoc. Migration researchers have to address these emerging political issues both scientifically and morally. Morally in the sense that the knowledge production has not been a value free exercise.
It is also becoming evident that migration also affects those who are not migrating or the immobile population such as left behind children, women and elderly. Although research in the these areas have been picking up, the findings are not incorporated in development planning.
In addition, migration policy must focus on migrants not the migration. Although migration and migrants are related, however not the same. Migration is an inalienable attribute of human existence and connotes the right to the freedom of movement. Studies shows integration of migrants in the development has many benefits and their protection will help in achieving the SDGs. The slogan of the SDGs is also very apt- leave no one behind! This bestows enormous responsibility on the the future studies on migration and migration researchers.

All these example future cities are lovely and such, but how are these going to be achievable in a low energy intensity future? After Peak Fossil Carbon, after Peak Usable Energy, you're not going to be able to build, operate, feed, and handle the wastes of these creations. Until you've got a way to address the Post-Transition existence, this is just dreaming.
All of the infrastructure we are building today will get it's first major maintenance in that low-energy-intensity future, and we aren't building for that reality. We will end up with enormous quantities of infrastructure that we can't afford to maintain, which means we will cease to use it, and cease to gain the benefit to our quality of life that we are getting today.
How do you design buildings that can be built (not just operated) with solar energy? How do you gather, transport, distribute, process, and cook the food, and then return the nutrients back to the farms, using renewables alone? We know how we did just that 200 years ago - we lived very close to the farm, in many small communities, in significantly smaller populations, using locally sourced biomass. How can that work 100 years from now? The only solar panel that is made with solar energy is a tree (or blade of grass, or algea, or.. well, plants)..
Add the existential issues, such as climate change, open oceanic fisheries collapse, soil loss, mass extinction, etc - and the stakes are raised, and the flexibility and opportunities that we have relied on in the past just won't be there in the future.
If we don't depend on some technological revolution (say Thorium reactors), then there isn't a way of building bigger, smarter cities that will make life better for everyone in a no-carbon future. And depending on clever people in the future to solve some problem we create today is precisely how we got into this mess. So we have to approach the problem at the root, and not at the end of the branch. Start at the beginning.
First - stop thinking about the city in isolation of the rural land that it support and is supported by it. The cities provide the professional services (education, health care, etc), and factories for goods.. The rural areas provide the ecological services (clean the water, grow the food and fibre) and the non-renewable resources. They can't operate in isolation of each other - they have to be considered together as one planning unit. We don't do that, and that has to change first.
Second - ensure that we can meet everyone's needs today, using only the ecological services, resources and skills available in the combined planning unit. If you can't make it locally with locally sourced materials, then at some future time, mismanagement by someone else will mean those resources will cease to be available for use. If you need it, make sure you have it available in perpetuity, or develop co-management relationships with other communities to ensure continued access.
Third - figure out how to operate these communities in the absence of economic growth - once the EROI drops low enough, there won't be enough to support our current economic and political systems. What will provide hope instead? The answer is likely by focussing on meeting people's needs specifically, people's quality of life will go up, even if the economy declines. But that's not automatic and it will take careful planning.
Fourth - after all that is done you can invest in technological development. But it has to be tested to demonstrate that the development is sustainable. Will people be able to meet more of their needs, more effectively, once over-consumed resources cease to be available, as a result of the technology? How are you going to measure that and project it into the future far enough to be meaningful? 40 years is short term from a Sustainability perspective, and 150 years ago we could never have imagined where we are today. Somehow we have to plan for more than the next 100 years, and make good choices today to take us through the coming transitions.
I really don't think it's by getting more efficient. Sure, that plays a part, but generally when efficiency is increased, resilience is decreased. Better would by getting more effective. How does eco-architecture improve effectiveness?

One must distinguish between "hottest" and "most important" topics.
As for “hot” topics – look at the Universities. New tools (powerful hardware and software) make it possible for developing more and more sophisticated geotechnical research (calculations). Scientists publish more and more “indexed” but “unread” research papers without any influence on contemporary world. There are some key words in this “parallel universe” (sponsored by public institutions) like: green, eco-, sustainability that replaced former leaders: risk, reliability etc. The scientific world does even not pretend to address their findings to the current needs.
As for “important” topics – just look at the current situation in the developing countries. There is a big need for “infrastructure”, “food” and “energy” for the growing populations. The clue point is that development of Asian, African and South American countries does not demand for high-tech technologies or methods. The real world needs simple, cheap and robust geotechnical technologies to be applied in large infrastructural projects (roads, railways, dams, hydro-energy, flood protection, water supply for people and agriculture. �.

Which materials changed the History ? For example, carved stone, bronze and iron changed the History in its own moment, leading to the corresponding Ages of Stone, Bronze and Iron of the Mankind. These Materials allowed the fabrication of better tools that allowed in turn to control the environment (more intensive agriculture, more sofisticated manufactured goods). Cooked clays permitted storage that in turn permitted longer life shelf and water transportation, and the first buildings and writing pieces in Mesopotamia. Paper was another material that changed the History, allowing to keep the written words and then spread the knowledge. Then plastics, that made everything cheap but that become a nightmare latter (thus changing again the History).
Which materials will change the future? Not talking which compounds, but the types of materials we could mention: Bioinspired materials made with the architectures, functionalities and raw sources from biological things and smart materials that will react to the needs of the user or to the changes in the environmental conditions. These materials should come from sustainable sources or have to be so specialized that would allow their use in a profitable scale.

Different types of intelligence are studied and described, eg emotional intelligence is significantly different from classical intelligence. Intelligence is determined by various factors, both genetic and behavioral, developmental. In addition, the development of artificial intelligence, which in my opinion never matches human is done under the control of a human being, which means that the probability of realizing a negative development scenario of this technology presented in literature and film from the science fiction genre is small. Once I read two nice point of views, which from my memory escapes the sources. Firstly, we must stop considering intelligence as just “human-centered”, if aliens exist, they might have a “different intelligence”, maybe not inferior for so; see the intelligence of other species in earth, they may not serve the human purpose, but the species survived for centuries. Secondly, we just learnt to fly just after we stopped mimicking the birds. In some senses, a plan is more efficient then a birds, and a computer is more efficient then the brain. Maybe, before answering your question, we must rethink what we mean by intelligence. When you say “It is unlikely that self-perfecting machines, which would be autonomous robots at the same time, would achieve a high level of intelligence, matching human intelligence” I believe this question is subtle. A rude example might be artificial neural networks, such as deep learning, have you imagined how amazing are the things they can do? Without a mathematical explanation? My point is, maybe this “autonomous robots” you are talking about already exist, but not the way we expect, “human centered”, maybe taking human as the reference might be a limitation factor. Maybe a metaphor is when we grow, unless we have a static reference, such as the shower key we could reach, we may not be able to see that we have grown up. I am pretty such that what your smartphone can do was unimaginable decades ago, and maybe we shall be able to do in some decades to come will be a mind-blowing thing. Regarding “would rebel against people as demonstrated…” I believe we are still far way from creating a conscious-like machine, we still do not understand from where comes conscious, which may triggers such “terminators”.

I am no expert in this field, but i have worked on molecular dynamics simulations of graphene and Carbon Nano Tubes for a good amount of time. As per modelling part is concerned, All the interactions between the carbon atoms have been obtained using Ab-initio methods, and the respective parameters are very well accepted in the community. Sure there are interesting problems to work on with graphenes and CNT but material modelling part if wanted to be improved, then you might have to perform more accurate simulations of Ab-Initio and Density Functional theory methods to obtain respective parameters.

I did not focus on electrical part of this project for purposes of this thesis but I was researching motors that are commonly used. Input values for my calculations came as result from CFD analsys (required force therefore required torque, power...). I found few motors that could fit for that situation for example (I linked you hydraulic pump but same model can be used with shaft on output):
Usually motors used are DC 12,24 or 48V with high torque (for relatively small vessel that I used I needed 11 Nm torq and 3 kW pwr). Thrusters on small boats and yachts usually have their own power supply (motor battery) which can handle 250-500 A current output. Battery is charged from alternators in main drive system. Therefore time constrain in calculation came from this (usually thrusters can work continous 1-2 min max).
I hope you're satisfied with my answer. I haven't checked new technologies in that field recently but I believe there is huge space for improvements.

One way to increase the crop production is a genetic manipulation through conventional techniques. Eduard, in your question you are specifically focusing on radar to avoid obstacles. Personally I don't see a big future for radar as a technology to serve that purpose. It is more likely that enhanced or synthetic vision systems based on laser and other electro-optical systems in combination with highly detailed terrain data basis will provide better cues to aircrews.
Obviously, this is only the 'front end' of collision avoidance as it generates inputs regarding the presence of obstacles. The next level is the integration with the Flight Management System to determine the optimal flight path for avoiding these obstacles. Depending on the stage of flight (e.g. engine failure during take off), the FMS will determine viable flight paths for an emergency landing etc.
Radar is also able to provide information about objects ahead of the aircraft but for high resolution imaging purposes you need extremely high radar frequencies (high-end GHz) which brings a whole slew of challenges in practical environments.

Most modern cameras are much more than cameras. They include dry contacts to turn on / off almost anything, the ability to record and play sounds, sense temperature, receive digital and analog inputs and communicate with a variety of other devices.
The back end management platforms, like Occularis ( as just one example ) and larger scale systems, can perform event driven programming, and a variety of interactive operations, It is much more that can be done that using these systems as a video camera recording mindlessly while someone ignored hundreds of screens.
That the cameras themselves have local computing power, some with built in facial recognition and object tracking - they can be programmed to accomplish significant things in the absence of the control / management plane.
I have seen off the shelf, commodity cameras capable of detecting a pedestrian trying to enter a walkway against traffic, that event signaling the traffic signal to enter a all-ways-red state, and visual and auditory alarms being sounded via dry contact closure to keep the pedestrian from being run down. This is not some future technology - its something that can be done today. This happens in real time, without the management platform being involved. It is a highly survivable system, and not dependant on some far flung data center or cloud. It would work in a remote village or a busy urban population center.
( crappy ) PTZ cameras are giving way to multi-lens 360 degree cameras. So instead of monitoring one place or a series of places along a tour, the entire area is being monitored - even places not anticipated by those designing or deploying the system. These systems are providing much better resolution too. So what had to be accomplished with zoom lenses can be done digitally - to any portion of the scene - after the fact.
There is the concept of "blank screen monitoring" - So imagine a person monitoring the cameras. Its not a millions cameras on a millions screens as seen in The Matric. Normally their screen is blank - completely blank.
They can choose to look at a given camera or set of cameras, but normally, they are not having to hop through all the cameras looking for bad stuff.
The CAMERA ( or the management plane ) detects when something of interest is happening. This may be something where it shouldn’t be, motion when motion normally does not occur, someone pressing a butting, making a sounds, fire, door being opened or closed, presenting an ID card, being detected by a wireless network, ...
These anomalies trigger the management system to display THAT camera. It can also force the operator to acknowledge the event. It can correlate those events over multiple cameras. As additional cameras require attention, they are tiled and then spill over on to other screens.
In one application, the operator has the ability to send screens to a mobile app of an officer or partol car. So now the officer on site has the same view of things as the central office. This is incredibly powerful. Its also easy - no longer does the dispatcher have to try and narrate what is happening - which keep sthem from paying attention to other situations in progress,
There is an enormous amount of things which can be done today with shipping cameras and code. The problem is that most safety offices view them as dumb cameras. They do not have someone monitoring them. they have not seen a better way to do it. Also many of the places which do this well - casinos most notably - are not really willing to share their experiences in the interest of keeping their edge over bad actors.
Part of the reason nobody knows about this is that rarely do you find safety offices that (A) value this sort of interactivity (B) have a dispatch staff capable of making it make sense.

I am trying to estimate turbulent wall pressure fluctuations using LES for zero pressure gradient flows. From the literatures(1,2), I arrive at a conclusion about the grid resolution in terms of viscous wall units. delta_x_+ = ~55, del_y+ ~ 1, del_z+ ~ 15.
1. How strictly we need to follow these numbers to get reasonably accurate LES results. I have seen some journal papers using LES without following these grid requirements. Are such results valid ?
2. Do we have to keep these resolutions throughout the domain or in the boundary layer region only? I am using ICEM CFD & Ansys Fluent s/w.

  • US government data that's available. We have https://www.data.gov/ that is surprisingly robust. Also the BLS, Census, OECD, and World Bank open data https://data.worldbank.org/ have much more social issue related data than you might expect
  • Search for papers on the subject of interest and ask the authors for their data/sources 
  • Many companies and cities are now open sourcing their data so that people can help solve problems. There are also non-profits doing this. One example is http://www.datakind.org/. Many nonprofits will give you data in return for help with analysis. 
  • Some datasets are available to students/researchers that may not be available to those in industry

As you say, quite obviously, past voting behavior has a strong influence on future voter behavior. You ask about a measure by which this could be measured. My recommendation would be to turn around your question: not looking at voters who's past behavior strongly influences their future behavior, but those voters for whom it does not.
Take a look at the literature on electoral volatility (i.e., voters switching party preference). As you will see, there is a lot of literature that tries to explain why some voters switch while others remain loyal to their party. In that way, by reading on voters switching parties, I am sure you will learn a lot with regard to the influence of past voter behavior on future voting as well!

my moderated mediation analysis (process model 7) revealed a marginally significant interaction effect (p=.085). In the results part I therefore decided to marginally support my hypothesis. How should I now deal with it in the discussion part?
I did not find much literature on marginal significance besides Pritschet, Powell, Horne (2016).
Is it possible that the marginally significant interaction effect stems from/is related to the Cronbach's alpha of my moderator (4 item scale, Cronbach's alpha of .71)? Could I suggest for future research to add more items that hopefully increase the Cronbach's alpha of the moderator? Or am I mixing two completely independent concepts that do not influence each other?

A p-value is a function of sample size, and even if it were usually more directly interpretable, which it is not, there are various ways they may be distorted in multiple regression.  Such a statistic can be misleading. 
It may often be a better idea to pick your model based on subject matter considerations, and then see how well it performs on test data.  You may also want to research "model selection," and "model validation."  You could compare performances of candidate models.
You might also consider graphical analyses, as in Figures 5 and 6 in https://www.researchgate.net/publication/313925533_Comparing_Model_Performances_Graphically
When comparing model performances, beware of overfitting.
Interaction terms could be left in perspective models, or taken out for performance comparisons.

In the current era, the precision medicine initiative is stressed as being a priority for the best medical care one can practice/get. In addition, a statistical method called bootstrapping with the support of strong AI (e.g. powerful processing, neural networks) and computers proves to be more reliable than 'classical statistics' used in biomedical millieu. One can generate statisticaly confident results without large samples, as long as the quantitavely smaller ones included are a representatively and correctly chosen values (with enough qualitative variations needed for the study). Some questions arise when considering these large shifts and new possibilites for generating and practicing medical knowledge.
1. Will large scale studies be redundant once precision medicine methods (such as (epi-)gene-orientated analysis for assessment of pharmacotherapy efficacy or enzyme status'), become more available and cheaper? It would surely prevent lots of heavier life-threatening side-effects (therefore costs, but also quality of patient's life) and a more favorable clinical outcome for the benefit of the patient (and the entire medical system).
2. Could these new 'large scale studies' be made through correctly chosen smaller samples run with bootstrapping method? (It would save time, money, generate equal or even more significant findings due to computing possibilites previously unavailable?)
3. an example;  commonly used drugs that affect coagulation (warfarin, P2Y antagonist. new anticoagulants) can have terminal side effects that we want to evade. By having large scale studies from real population data we can assess the common risk factors/symptoms and derive scores for assessment (e.g. HAS-BLED or even the one's for primary prevention such as CHADS) and according to which we can expect direct consequences for patients but also project economic impact of such therapies. If one would use precision medicine, we could surely evade a lot of unwanted side effects that stem from drug-interactions or enzyme inhibitors/inducers concomitantly used, but also due to genetic alterations (e.g. coagulation cascade variability leading to a prothrombotic/prohemorrhagic state). 
In what direction will/should the future of decision making process gravitate to? Statistics is something that never exists in reality, but could point an insecure clinician to a safer route, while precision medicine (getting more affordable with each moment passed), is a way that resepects the basic physiology and biology which is entirely unique in each individual. Will these two methods (small scale vs. large scale) find an equal purpose or are they irreconcilable in their nature?

Speaking from experience, even large studies often fail to capture the  complexity of the patient population.  How would one know that a "carefully chosen representative sample" is in fact representative?  In one study where we tried to predict patient satisfaction, we had data from 10,000 patients, which was a representative sample (as far as we could tell).  We had thousands of predictor variables per patient.  But no matter what AI or other predictive models we used, we could not achieve an AUC better than 0.55, i.e. not much better than a coin flip.  I am skeptical of genetics papers that claim to have high predictive accuracy.
And yes, we tried stratifying the population into subgroups.  But we discovered that any attempts at stratification resulted in overfitting and made the predictive accuracy worse.  There are situations where predictions are intractable, at least based on the data available.  Unless we develop remote scanning technology to read people's thoughts or something, predicting patient satisfaction in our population has been an impossible challenge thus far.

I have had an experience in the field of preventive maintenance of plants, machines and processes. Maybe such approach could be implemented in other areas, as we do speak about system theory. State prediction was an issue. It may be valid in social systems also, as they may be modelled.

I know of two potentially major "breakthrough" projects that have been in existence for over a decade  and shown good promise but have not advanced so it's easy to expect they will take another few decades.
One is zolpidem for brain damage, all explained on this website : https://sites.google.com/site/zolpidemtherapy/home  A proportion of patients with brain damage of all causes respond with SPRCT scans showing new brain activity within infarctions plus clinical responses in stroke patients.  This is a unique effect since no other GABA agonist has this effect (such as zopiclone and zaleplon).
A second project is Colostrinin(R) which I suggest you search for by Google.  It is the only project that has worked well in several models of the pathology of Alzheimer's Dementia plus one placebo-controlled clinical trial.  There is a good review of its mechanisms of action by Boldogh and Kruzel in Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease 13 (2008) 303–321.  
Both these treatments are known to be safe. Both are available now at low cost, ie less than a UD dollar a day, so it is a huge tragedy that so many patients are not getting them.  The reasons for being stalled are many but lack of patents is a major one.  High cost of phase 3 type trials is another. Thirdly, investors see pharmaceuticals as very high risk.  Fourthly, academics in basic sciences see them as "old hat" or clinicans are constrained by health care budgets.  Your new breakthroughs will need to avoid all of these pitfalls, I think.

This is a very good question! Personally, I believe profoundly that scientific work has its own rhythm, very often a slow, very slow rhythm - and "ideas" need time, very much time to become more than simple ideas, hypotheses need much time to become more than simple hypotheses. However, this is a privilege that only very few of colleagues possess. Generally, one is engaged in a series of time-bounded research projects (in general three years …), has to do his/her own branding (like any social organization), has to publish in regular intervals (other – he/she “perishes” ….), has to be present on social networks (like RG), has to interact in more or less real time with his/her students or any other person who could be a potential partner, and so on. Like in other domains – politics, arts, justice,… - one can have the impression that research sometimes “degenerates” to a kind of communicational firework …
On the side, it is also obvious that digital media (in form of digital archives or libraries, for instance, but also in form of services bringing together researchers all over the world) possess – at least potentially – profound cognitive and epistemic consequences for research (I only would like to quote here the emerging “field” of digital humanities).
