Hello guys,
As you know, in Abaqus, there are different types of connectors which, based on their free or constrained DOFs, we can define specific fasteners. The properties are defined in three main directions. Now my question is, how can we define a connector to work just in its force orientation ( it may be X, Y, or any other direction between these two main directions)?
Relevant answer
Answer
Milad Keshvari Ilkhechi, yes, it is possible to define a fastener in Abaqus to work in the direction parallel to its force orientation. One way to do this is to use the Translator connector type. The Translator connector type allows you to define a linear movement along a specified direction. Once you have defined the Translator connector, you can apply a force to it in any direction. The connector will then resist the force in the direction of the connector.
Another way to define a fastener to work in the direction parallel to its force orientation is to use a user subroutine. For more, let's connect on WhatsApp to discuss; https://wa.me/+923440907874

Which energy source has the most impact on the environment and which energy is pollution free eco friendly and always available?
Relevant answer
Answer
Renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and geothermal energy are generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel sources. However, some renewable energy projects, such as the clearing of forests to produce biofuels, can cause severe environmental damage.Fossil fuels coal, oil, and natural gas do substantially more harm than renewable energy sources by most measures, including air and water pollution, damage to public health, wildlife and habitat loss, water use, land use, and global warming emissions.Pollution free is often derived from renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric power as a source of energy.Renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and geothermal energy are generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel sources. Nuclear is a zero-emission clean energy source. It generates power through fission, which is the process of splitting uranium atoms to produce energy. The heat released by fission is used to create steam that spins a turbine to generate electricity without the harmful byproducts emitted by fossil fuels. No source of energy can be called pollution-free, because, the use of any source of energy disturbs the environment in one way or the other. A source of energy like a solar cell is pollution free in actual operation but the assembly of the device might have caused some damage to the environment. Wind is a renewable energy source. Overall, using wind to produce energy has fewer effects on the environment than many other energy sources. Wind turbines do not release emissions that can pollute the air or water (with rare exceptions), and they do not require water for cooling. Petrol, diesel, and kerosene are petroleum products and they produce pollutants like carbon-dioxide and smoke. CNG or compressed natural gas is a smoke-free gas and does not spread pollution, and thus used in our vehicles. Therefore, CNG is considered as an eco-friendly fuel.

I am aware that GeNorm is currently only available through the qbase+ platform. I wanted to test it for free first, but unfortunately, I can't start the demo license, I have created a ticket on my profile and got no response. Neither am I able to find contact info (e-mail) to reach support.

Dear colleagues,
We are preparing a Special Issue on Biodiversity and Research in Central America to be published in the journal Neotropical Biology and Conservation.
Central America hosts about 5–12% of the world's biological diversity and is often referred to as a hyperdiversity hotspot in the Neotropical region. Amongst others, it is one of the top five most diverse regions for vascular plants. Because of its geographical placement, Mesoamerica is a key area for understanding both ecological and evolutionary processes to which tropical species are subjected. The dynamic landscape of Central America had a direct impact on the diversification and colonization of biota in the isthmus, thus creating new niches. Despite the region's potential for investigation, relatively little attention has been given in comparison to other Neotropical regions. This special issue aims to create a space to promote research conducted in this unique and diverse region and to give it the recognition it deserves.
If you think your research is suitable for this Special Issue, we invite you to submit a manuscript. The submission deadline is 30 December 2023.
All manuscripts submitted and accepted to this special issue will be published free of charge. This is a great opportunity to publish your work open access for free!
The editors of this special issue are Monika Lipińska, Maria Mercedes Lopez-Selva and José Monzón Sierra.
We are looking forward to receiving your manuscripts.

Dear all,
Can you please suggest me how to calculate the Limit of Free Fatty acids in Emulsion samples (O/W) by using titrimetric procedures.
Relevant answer
The limit of free fatty acids in emulsion samples (O/W) can vary depending on the specific application and industry standards. In general, the presence of free fatty acids in emulsions can lead to stability issues, such as phase separation or rancidity. Therefore, it is desirable to have low levels of free fatty acids in emulsion samples.
Different industries may have different limits for free fatty acids in emulsions. For example, in the food industry, the Codex Alimentarius Commission sets maximum limits for free fatty acids in certain food products. In the cosmetic industry, there may be specific regulations or guidelines regarding acceptable levels of free fatty acids.
To determine the specific limit of free fatty acids in emulsion samples (O/W), it is recommended to consult relevant industry standards or guidelines. Additionally, conducting analytical tests such as acid value determination or gas chromatography can help quantify the amount of free fatty acids present in emulsion samples and ensure compliance with applicable limits.

I've generated a Dox-inducible transgene overexpressing cell line after lentiviral transduction followed by single-cell cloning. The problem I am facing is that only 20-30% of the cells express transgene on the application of Dox despite being a pure population from a single cell. The concentration of Dox I've tested is 1-10ug/ml. The results remain the same at all concentrations. The media components are pen strep. L-glutamine, Beta-me, DMEM, FBS, and NEAA. Can any of this act as a dox inhibitor? OR another concern is that we are using FBS that is not tetracycline free because being always cultured in this FBS, is it possible for cells to shut down the expression of transgene if they experience stress from the continues expression of the gene as the cell line doesn't express this gene in WT conditions.
Any comments would help!

If there is, how does it depends on the MgO thickness and magnetization directions of the two ferromagnetic layers?
Relevant answer
Answer
I think there is, and it depends not only on the thickness of MgO, but also on the reference layer itself(just suppose our free layer is a CoFeB single layer). There are several papers for coupling between ref and free layers, e.g. 10.1109/TMAG.2013.2245308. If one carefully modifies the stray field of the reference layer, the coupling can be canceled, in my point of view.

While it is not advisable or ethical to obtain CarMaker software for free through unauthorized means, there are legal alternatives to access and use similar software for automotive simulation and testing purposes. Many software providers offer free trial versions or limited-functionality versions of their simulation software that you can use to explore and learn. Additionally, some academic institutions provide access to CarMaker or similar software for educational purposes. It is recommended to reach out to universities or research institutions that have partnerships or licenses with automotive simulation software providers to inquire about potential access options. Remember, respecting software licensing agreements and supporting developers ensures the sustainability and future advancements of such tools.

Hello, can someone indicate some free journals to publish articles on research methods in the healthcare field?
Relevant answer
Answer
I agree with Ian F Burgess you really can't equate pay to publish open access with bad journals - many excellent journals are open access only and have been so for some time. However, the majority of well-recognised journals in most fields still retain the traditional model of subscription access in which there is no fee to publish (although as mentioned, most of these now operate a hybrid model where open access is available for a fee). In terms of your specific topic - research methods in healthcare - there are lots but it depends on the type of methods article you have in mind. I'd suggest you look at the impact factor list for relevant disciplines (health sciences/services, nursing, etc,) and draw up a shortlist then do a bit of homework on the sort of articles each publishes. I can imagine that there is a tendency for methods-focused journals to be more likely to be open-access (only) but I am sure you will find one. This will help you avoid any predatory journals (but if you don't want to pay an APC you'll be avoiding them anyway)

I did some web searches for you and I found that there are some AI tools (machine learning) for the prediction of urinary tract infection (UTI) based on dipsticks and sediment, but they are not free. Here are some examples:
- **Machine learning models predicting multidrug resistant urinary tract infections using “DsaaS”**¹: This is a research paper that describes how to use a cloud platform called DSaaS (Data Science as a Service) to build machine learning models that can predict the risk of patients to contract a multidrug resistant UTI after hospitalization. The models use sex, age, age class, ward and time period as predictors, and they are trained on a dataset of 1486 hospitalized patients with nosocomial UTI. The paper claims that the best model achieved a Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.909, a sensitivity of 0.904, and an F1 score of 0.809.
- **Is there any free AI tool (machine learning) for the prediction of urinary tract infection based on dipstiks and sediment?**²: This is a question posted on ResearchGate by Cabo Julien from Université Catholique de Louvain - UCLouvain. He asks if there is any free AI tool for the prediction of UTI based on dipsticks and sediment analysis. The only answer he received was from Christian Schmidt from Westfälische Hochschule, who suggested that image classification techniques might be useful for this task. He also provided a link to a guide on image classification with Python: https://datagen.tech/guides/image-classification/python/
- **Reliability of dipstick assay in predicting urinary tract infection**³⁴: This is another research paper that evaluates the reliability (sensitivity) of urine dipstick analysis against urine culture in the diagnosis of UTI in hospitalized patients. The paper uses a dataset of 200 patients with suspected UTI and compares the results of dipstick nitrites, leukocyte esterase and blood with urine culture. The paper reports that the sensitivity of dipstick nitrites was 45%, leukocyte esterase was 64%, and blood was 51%.
As you can see, none of these AI tools are free, and they might not be very accurate or reliable either. You might need to pay for a subscription or a license to use them, or you might need to develop your own AI tool based on your specific data and needs. I hope this information was helpful to you.

Hi All,
I'm doing a content analysis of news articles covering arrests/reports of intimate partner violence, and the words/phrases used by reporters in their coverage. What are the best FREE tools that can be used (besides Voyant) to track words and frequency, and IDEALLY tone of certain terms and/or sentences used (if this even exists). Although I'm not new to research, I am new to content analysis, so anything helps! Thanks so much.

There are many free tools available for content analysis. Here are a few suggestions:
  1. Wmatrix: It is a tool that allows you to analyze the frequency and distribution of words in a text. You can also analyze the grammar and vocabulary used. Wmatrix provides a detailed analysis of the language used in a text, and it also calculates the semantic similarity between words and phrases.
  2. AntConc: It is an open-source tool that allows you to analyze large amounts of text. It provides detailed analysis of the frequency of words, phrases, and collocations. It also allows you to create concordance lines and word clouds. AntConc is user-friendly and easy to learn.
  3. Textalyser: It is a web-based tool that allows you to analyze the readability and complexity of a text. It also provides a detailed analysis of the most frequent words, phrases, and expressions used in a text. Textalyser also provides a summary of the sentiment and tone of a text.
  4. LIWC: It is a linguistic analysis tool that allows you to analyze the frequencies of different word categories such as affect, cognitive processes, and social processes. LIWC is widely used in the field of psychology and social sciences.
  5. Gephi: It is a tool that allows you to visualize and analyze large networks of words and phrases. Gephi provides visual insights into how different words are related to each other and how they are clustered.
All these tools are free, and they can be useful for analyzing news articles and other types of texts.

As a researcher, I am writing to request your help in obtaining a protein ladder for my research experiments (SDS-PAGE). Unfortunately, my current budget does not allow for the purchase of a protein ladder, and I am hoping that someone may be able to assist me in finding a low-cost or free option.
Relevant answer
Answer
John Schloendorn Thank you for your offer to send a free protein ladder. As an emerging lab, we appreciate your kind gesture. However, we would like to clarify that we are facing budget constraints due to setting up our lab for protein purification for the first time, and our current funds are being utilized in purchasing essential equipment and reagents required for protein purification setup.
Furthermore, we are located in a developing country where every reagent and equipment are significantly more expensive than in other parts of the world. This situation further exacerbates our budget constraints and makes it challenging for us to acquire all the necessary materials to carry out our research. We are continuously looking for alternative solutions to maximize our resources and reduce costs.
I will greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Aimon Khan

Question

I performed crosslinking using a 10 mg pellet and 5 ml of diluted 2.5% glutaraldehyde for a period of 2 hours. Upon attempting to dissolve the crosslinked enzyme for activity assay, I encountered inaccurate dissolution. Moreover, when compared to the free enzyme, the crosslinked enzyme did not exhibit activity in the activity assay. However, increasing the concentration of the crosslinked enzyme resulted in activity, which is in contrast to the behavior of the free enzyme, which exhibited activity at a concentration of only 100 ng. What further steps can I take to address this issue?
Relevant answer
Answer
The activity of the cross linked material is likely being lost because of excessive modification of the enzyme molecules, resulting in distortion of the structure. I would withdraw samples over a time course and check both activity and degree of cross linking by SDS PAGE. You need to find the point at which the reaction should be stopped. Using a lower concentration of glutaraldehyde will give you more control and more time to do any in process tests. It is worth noting however that glutaraldehyde cross linking will never give a defined end product. Why do you wish to cross link the enzyme? There are potentially better ways of doing it.
