Think for a moment, shifting from traditional market thinking to green market thinking in 2012 Rio +20 meant a shift from pareto optimality thinking to green pareto optimality thinking, yet to my knowledge nothing is written about this. Green pareto optimality thinking is at the heart of perfect green markets.
And this raises the question, what is the structure of green pareto optimality then? What do you think? I am interested in exchanging ideas on how to address this question and exchange thoughts.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear friends, here I am sharing an expansion of green pareto optimality and traditional pareto optimality to link it to environmental externality management markets, simply as food for thoughts, done with positive intentions just to share ideas
Sustainability thoughts 126: Are environmental externality management based production and consumption bundles inconsistent with green pareto efficiency and with pareto efficiency principles at the same time? If yes, why?

I am looking to research on Environmental Planning and Development. The objectives to guide my research will help as well. Thank you for your support in this regard.

Climate change, water and social justice are critical issues. However, I am uneasy about suggesting a focus. Instead, I encourage you to explore these questions to determine your research question:
1. What do I want to do after my studies?
This is the toughest question to answer, because we often don’t know what we want until we see it. On the other hand, if you don’t know where you are going, any road will do. How could your research help prepare you for what you want to do with your life after graduation?
2. What organization would I ideally like to work for / with?
Do you want to work for a private, public, or NGO organization? Do you already have a wish list of two or three? Might one of them be prepared to sponsor your research on a particular topic that they need to explore? That conversation would help you to get to know them, and help them to get to know you, so you can test your mutual comfort with a longer term relationship. Plus, they might help cover the cost of your studies.
3. What do I really want to know, and why?
A masters is a lot of work. You need to be energized to learn the findings of your research because you want to know — not me, or your supervisor, or a prospective employer. You. Why do you want to know the answer to your research badly enough to invest the time and money to find out? Don’t do the masters for the credential; do it for the increased knowledge about something that you care about.
4. How can my thesis be a force for change?
Sustainability issues are huge. What needs to be added to the body of knowledge about them that people don’t already know about? For example, what would it take to have governments use sustainable public procurement to only allow suppliers who disclose their contributions to the SDGs to bid on tenders? Is it lack of knowledge or lack of action, or both? Think of your thesis as a draft of a guidebook. Ideally, who would you like to read it so that they can be more effective? One of my books was my master’s thesis, another was my doctoral thesis. I wasn’t doing the research to get another certificate on my wall; I was doing it so that the book would be a more effective instrument for change.
These questions reinforce that a masters should be a means to an end, not the end itself. You want to do the research so that ….(what)? Have fun with the questions, take your time, and I know you will enjoy exploring ways to leverage your research.
I hope this helps a bit. All the best.

I think the labelling just depends on the labeller's perspective and insight. I was puzzled when I heard my neighbour saying to her friend "These strange weeds just invaded her garden" as she pointed at my front garden. She was refering to my vegetables that I had interplanted in my flower garden as 'strange weeds'. OMG, she almost root some off the garden, if not of my timely intervention. She is a lovely neighbour who is ready to give a helping hand in my garden at anytime. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder ...

What exactly is it we still need to know about greywater systems as a whole before they become completely feasible on an individual home basis and perhaps an apartment complex context?
Relevant answer
Answer
I feel the most important issue with grey water systems is the challenge to keep them grey: in other words how to avoid mis connections. In practice it is know that during construction and the further lifetime of even a simple separated sewer system mis connections occur (wastewater on the stormwater system and vise versa). Especially when one tries to use specific treatment techniques for yellow, brown and grey water the occurence of mis connections will prove to have serious adverse effects on the treatment efficiency, therefore I underline the remarks made by Pouneh Shahrouz Ebrahimi: keep it simple!

Which is better: Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) or Grey Relational Analysis (GRA)? I ask this question because I see many publications using AHP or GRA, for example, to select materials in the ecodesign concept of products/processes. However, the methodological approach of each of these two tools is different. So, I'm afraid that you can find different results applying AHP or GRA for the same study.
I'll appreciate your feedback!

I am working on a paper in which I study a watershed with a stormwater BMP located in the headwaters and another watershed with a BMP located in the lowlands and a reviewer would like me to discuss the typical distribution of BMPs (whether they are typically in the headwaters draining storm drains or if the are typically lower down in the watershed). Thanks for any help!
Relevant answer
Answer
Genneraly BMPs located in the headwaters protect recipients from pollution accumulated in specific storm drains and BMPs located lower down in the watershed are used to remove pollutants accumulated in the whole watershed. It is hard to say anything more with no aditional data, it all depends on which BMPs are used and why, where your watershed is located (rural or urban area), what souces of pollution are there in the watershed..

Mining is necessary for development, but development at the cost of environment will lead to destruction. Mines and minerals needs to be preserved for the future generation.
Relevant answer
Answer
MINING & ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (EMS): Mining operations that have implemented either a formal (with ISO 14001 certification) or informal (without formal certification or self-declared) EMS have found real and valuable benefits. Positive outcomes in terms of improved environmental performance, assured legal compliance and energy and material efficiencies can be expected by EMS implementation. A sound EMS also helps a mining company to identify its responsibilities beyond simple compliance.EMS implementation allows a mining company to anticipate the changing expectations of the public as well as constant changes in environmental laws and regulations. An effective EMS adopts new ways of providing continuous improvement in a mining company's efforts to manage environmental compliance and performance.http://www.envirogulf.com/mining_iso.html

Won't this pose a threat to the ecological balance?
Relevant answer
Answer
Most of the developing world have been steadily capturing animals from sea, without almost any in put. As the fishing pressure has gone out of control, it has put a big question mark on sustainability. The western world had come across this problem long time back & hence with stricter rules & regulations, the scenario
is still better. Some of them have taken this route of sea ranching their marine waters with the in put of specific type of animals,as per its niches, its food, natural mortality & pressure on fishing. With such a step they have been to an extent able to sustain natural populations & still land fish for local consumption & export. Infusing too much of a population, targeting fishes & marine animals from higher trophic levels will certainly alter ecological balance. But with such high levels of fishing pressure, do the developing countries have the wherewithal to correct the situation - I doubt.

Question

The definition of this topic suggests it is about monitoring harmful substances and exposure. I think it should have a broader remit and look at the repeated measurement of any environental component or condition. Should the title be changed (say to ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE) that then matches the definition and related topics? Should there be different recommended topics? If so which ones?
Relevant answer
Answer
environmental monitoring can also be looking at compliance monitoring, performance monitoring and so on. Basically, it should not be reacting only to the things that may go wrong but should also look at how things can be improved.
