Alisa Parmer I believe you will need to learn (a) scholarly writing style and (b) test/reference citation format. I can recommend a couple of videos and coaching courses. All are free (at least don't give out money until you have searched for more courses first).
More specifically I highly recommend the APA writing style likely it will be mandated by your university - check with your supervisor and also ask that person as well as your librarian if there are any resources at your own university which may help you! Hope this helps! My textbook discusses the research design and satistical methods across all disciplines so you may find that helpful or contact my colleague Narasimha Rao Vajjhala is you are planning to use a qualitative grounded theory approach. -Ken

How important is the development of a fully inclusive school culture? Are leadership teams willing but in need of structured professional support?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Dr.Lorraine Marsland
In order for inclusive education to be realized and sustained in practice, it is crucial that time is spent on establishing shared beliefs and understandings. That is, coming to a collective realization about education and its purpose, about how students learn, about what constitutes quality and effective teaching, about responsibility, and about the vision for life and communities beyond school.
In practice, culture change can be viewed as impacting the “hearts and minds” of a school and its population.
In order for authentic culture change to occur, the majority (80%+) of staff need to reach a point where they believe and understand that quality, evidence-based education should be afforded to all students, and that diversity should be embraced and celebrated. If changes in practice are demanded prior to significant cultural impact, there runs a risk of minimal compliance, tokenistic responses, and the less than desirable outcome of integration. Inclusive school reform is not likely to be scalable and sustained long term.

differentiated two aspects of motivation: initiating motivation which was concerned with the reasons for doing something and deciding to do something, and sustaining motivation referring to the effort for sustaining or persisting in doing something. Dörnyei and Ushioda (2001, 2011) identified two dimensions of defining motivation on which most researchers would agree: direction and magnitude of human behavior. Accordingly, motivation specifies the reason why people decide to do something, how long people are willing to sustain the activity and how hard they are going to pursue the activity.
As for teacher motivation, Sinclair (2008) defined it in terms of attraction, retention, and concentration as something that determines 'what attracts individuals to teach, how long they remain in their initial teacher education courses and subsequently the teaching profession, and the extent to which they engage with their courses and the teaching profession (2008, p. 37). Dörnyei and Ushioda (2011) highlighted the two dimensions of teacher motivation in accordance with their conceptions of motivation, namely, the motivation to teach and the motivation to remain in the profession. Their review of literature came to a conclusion of four featured components of teacher motivation: prominent intrinsic motivation which was closely related to the inherent interest of teaching; social contextual influences relating to the impact of external conditions and constraints; temporal dimension with emphasis on lifelong commitment; and demotivating factors emanating from negative influences.

After several publishing experiences, correcting minor errors occurs in the proofing stage. However, every once and awhile errors can pass by authorship teams and proofing/editing teams. Many errors are never formally addressed but when they are what are standard means to manage them?
Most personal experiences suggest that additional proofing edits take care of most author/journal requirements prior to in print publication. In some cases, issuing an erratum could be a means to provide for additional clarification or corrections. After review of colleagues and COPE guidelines, retraction is not a means to be applied to correct for non-scientific errors/editing mistakes.
Very interested to hear about personal experiences, especially those that serve as editors. I am trying to refine a reasonable editorial 'cap' and approach.

I'm working on an article on "learning to lead with integrity: reflections of a Christian educator." In this article, I intend to find new ways of integrating the theological and philosophical positions of the various Christian community settings of my upbringing (a branch of Protestant Christianity with a rich theological tradition informed by John Calvin and other reformers), with the questions teachers often ask about "what does this have to do with classroom teaching? How can I learn from this and be more confident that I am practicing my faith in the classroom? How would you relate foundational statements about theological positions taken to questions about pedagogical practices faced by classroom teachers?" To add an additional wrinkle to these questions: since I do much of my teaching and advising at the Master's level through online course notes and "learning forums," I am seeking advice on how best to communicate any suggestions you have ONLINE.

Yes, there is subject-matter content that is helpful, but is the "study of" leadership more significant than than "doing and learning leadership"? Just asking. In a world dominated by globalized ideas is the field of educational leadership open to more practical approaches?
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, I agree with Wendy. But I would also add other factors. It depends also on the context one is referring to with about 74 countries classified as conflict zones, and also depending on the kind of political system involved. Also depends on what kind of university programme is involved. From a number of postcolonial perspectives, many university programmes are not teaching the constitution, laws, values, cultural norms, the design of social institutions that many people have to work in - a fundamental problem of policy transfer with a lot of the globalised education systems.

In the year 2015 alone, 26 out of 47 counties in Kenya experienced cases of arson of school property and some students lost their lives in secondary school unrest (refer to Daily Nation Newspaper of August 4, 2015). My thinking is that current preparation arrangement for student leaders may be lacking in some key skills and procedures which can enable them sense trouble and help deal with it promptly. However I am not clear in my mind what the skills or procedures might be. But as a student of educational leadership, I think we need to help make school time learning time and not 'problem solving' time.

One of the main problems is that many professors don't understand they teach Millennials and Z generation. These generations are completely different than previous generations - they don't like only to listen (as was the case for X generation), they want to interact with their professors and to be respected as young people. Also, if you don't have "a digital approach" to teaching, you're perceived as old fashioned.

Evaluating academic faculty for promotions often include assessing their teaching abilities. Is it sensible to base these on Student Course Evaluations?
Geoffrey Alderman wrote in the Gaurdian that a reason for the decline in academic standards has been the 'increasing and increasingly stupid use of students' course evaluations as pivotal factors in the academic promotion process.'
Does anyone have a deeper insight on how the use of such student evaluations have impacted faculty at their own institutes? Have they led to dumbing down?
How much confidence would you have in the teaching ability of the applicant if the evidence was exclusively based on Student Course Evaluations?
Relevant answer
Answer
I agree with so many of the comments, if they are to be used, they must be just one element in the evaluation process. If they are administered and collected, they must have a purpose. They should be a resource to potentially identify problems within the instructional setting, but not as confirmation of a problem. Validation only after a deeper examination into a possible issue.

Leadership styles
Relevant answer
Answer
The distinction between those two styles of leadership may or not be meaningful ,but all have to be and are used in any kind of organisation depending on the situation. As a leader, you need to get people committed to the organisation goals either by rewarding (positive transactional style) or by stimulating (transformational style) instead of punishing (negative transactional style). However, depending on the context, the reward would be more psychological (public recognition of performance) than material.

I feel that it is difficult to come up with a single model that would works out everywhere. I did TNA for a banking sector years back. What I'd like to suggest is to carry out analysis from various levels: Institutional/sector specific issue, the nature of work(functions), and trainees. Moreover, the demand of the task/business and the existing KSA gap would lead to the training and development needs. In today's dynamism, particularly in the rapid technological changes, the future or potential demands also require due consideration.

I just want to get an broader view on the student development process
Relevant answer
Answer
In my humble opinion, a real problem for students (who are actively participating in student political organizations) is distraction from their studies even though they may deny that.
I have witnessed students (elected as representatives for students in certain disciplines) who wasted lot of precious time at the expense of their studies including absence from lectures.
In some 3rd world universities, elections of student unions have been politicized. Wastage of 3 days occurs easily during this process (one day before the elections, the day of the elections, and the day after so as the “winner” celebrates !). I do not think that such activity can add positively to the development process of students.

Relevant answer
Answer
No such thing. Find a laboratory which can assist you with your samples. They will provide the quickest evaluation of your needs to see if any of the techniques are applicable. LC/MS analysis takes years to learn and longer to master.  While there are many wonderful books, articles and websites with tuturials and guides, none of these will "teach" you how to perform the analysis (I Teach and consult in LC/MS analysis and no one can be taught to be proficient in this technique from reading books or taking classes). Every instrument is different and each requires specialized training in how to use the specific hardware and the software too. Change models or brands and you start over learning all of the specific info for that system once again. There is no reason for you to spend years learning the technique when you probably just have a project you need help with. Hire experts to assist you or find a lab that you can work with which can provide you with some introductory training while they run the show and work out the needed methods and interpret the data for you.
BTW: This question/request lands on my desk at least 2-3 times every week. People that ask the question do not yet understand how complex the technique is. This is not like teaching someone how to use a lab spectrophotometer or analytical balance (which anyone can do in one day). Follow the suggestions above. This is the most efficient way to proceed.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this research problem. "No way, we are not school teachers!" was the immediate response of a senior lecturer in a large university when this topic was raised. When school leaders observe teachers in action, they do so to provide support and enrich teaching and learning activities within their schools. Then why are university lecturers not provided the same support while they teach? Are instructional leaders in universities different from the ones at school?
Relevant answer

Peer observation in my experience leads to meaningful and effective reflection and improvements in an environment of trust. Using a trusted colleague as a mentor removes the potential for a supervisor to use undue influence on any individual, unless student feedback indicates peer review is not effective as a triangulation.

My sense, however, is that students don't want such responsibility.  Perhaps, as various scholars have argued, they have been conditioned by the educational system to leave the teacher in charge.  But I doubt this.  Most students understand that teachers actually have very little control over anything.  Curriculum?  No.  Testing?  No.  Homework?  No.
Moreover, the commodification of education, along with the influence of neoliberalism, has removed all but faint vestiges of teacher autonomy.  Students have accepted their role as consumers, demoting teachers to the role of clerks.  To appease our consumers and to avoid the discomfort of pervasive differences in student performance, we have facilitated grade inflation and the dumbing down of curricula.

Some days it inhibits a G alpha q response and some days not - also very fresh never thawed stock does not appear to be the answer.
There are not many publications and this might be why.
On one occasion it gave a beautiful full and fairly potent dose response curve and it did not inhibit at all on another day - same expt - is very hard to understand.

Dear Jack Rijnen,
Maybe this article: "Meaningful Learning fostering For The Students' Pragmatic Competence", can answer your questions. Because in my opinion "deep learning" is Synonymous with "meaningful learning". The following articles can be downloaded: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/305912852_Meaningful_Learning_For_Fostering_The_Students%27_Pragmatic_Competence

I'm conducting an action research project on the impact of IBL on elementary students' achievement in math and comparing outcomes from classes that use current math textbooks only with classes that only use IBL.
My secondary questions are:  What impact does IBL have elementary students' motivation and engagement in math?  How does IBL effect students' perception of mathematics?
If anyone has a great survey for self-efficacy, self-regulation and/or motivation of mathematics in elementary students, please include them as well.  I would be very much appreciative.
Thank you!

I am working on a project of preparing teachers for inclusive classrooms. I am thankful to those who send me their articles. I want to be more clear about the challenges face by regular institutions in preparing pre-service teachers for inclusive classroom in developing and developed countries.

Hello Samina. Regardless of country, I think the most important message to get over is that INCLUSION is not the same as INTEGRATION. The former invites the ´outsider´ to bring her achievements into the salad bowl. Integration, on the other hand, invites the ´outsider´ to ensure that her achievement aspirations are compatible with the host community; this is a melting pot model. I prefer integration. Best wishes Paul

I am a novice researcher working on my PhD proposal.
My dissertation is titled: A Grounded Theory Study of the Undergraduate Students’ Online Learning Experiences in English Composition Courses.  In my dissertation, I am working to create a grounded theory regarding the perspectives of undergraduate students about their learning environments in online English composition classes.
Before I can go forward and submit to the IRB, I will need to have area experts assess my interview questions.  This is called field testing and it is an important element in the research interview process.  The field test will assist me in determining if there are flaws, limitations, or other weaknesses within the interview design and will also allow me to make necessary revisions prior to the implication of the study.  This field test will also asset me with the refinement of the research questions.
So far, I have had no luck gathering participants.  I have one willing, but need more.  I have looked in my own institution and reached out to others, but no luck.
Are there better ways to find participants?

In Bavaria, there is a mostly implicite but nevertheless rather clear-cut stereotype of the Hauptschule-kid (lower education) as different from the Realschule-student (intermediate) and from the Gymnasiast (higher). This image is transmitted by the students themselves, their parents, their teachers and - recently - by official curriculum commissions (LehrplanPLUS), although there seems to be no evidence whatsoever that there are corresponding categories of giftedness. Where can I find research about school (social) structure and cultural stereotyping?

A trend is developing in Papua New Guinea Universities, industries and organizations where their GAPS and TNA show that bulk of the employees need upskilling and upgrading of qualifications to perform efficiently and effectively. Work based education is more sustainable means of professional development and training and creates and environment of collaboration and cooperation among Universities, industry, learners and the community at large. This I believe will contribute to building a more productive local economy.

Very good question and statement. Competitive nature of the job market have needs new vision. To remedy this shortcoming, work based learning is attractive. It is an alternative flexible form of learning that attempts to tackle these issues. It enables students to learn whilst they work, addressing the funding issues, and enhancing their employability through the acquisition of higher professional qualifications. The following paper presents the findings from a survey conducted among stakeholders from all four pillars of work based learning, namely the learner, the academic environment, the workplace and the external context.

Angela, much has been said about your question above and would reemphasize that there are few role models for the boys right from infancy. The mother figure who is often their first,  for most,  even in school is all boys get. It behooves the significant men therefore to up their present and positive influence on  the boys. And yes a curriculum that parallels and augment that followed by schools to support the " boys will be boys" need to be in place urgently for after school.

Jinan:
I think Universities can be more effective in implementing Education for Sustainable Development by making their curricular more globally responsive to students' need. As an international student, I was not able to easily transfer what I learnt at a foreign University after studying for my doctorate and returning home as the curriculum rarely catered to a third-world or developing country perspective. As such, my education was not fully sustainable. The attached helps to elaborate on the need expressed in considering sustainable education.
Many thanks,
Debra

curriculum instruction
gains/losses in achievement gap
high achievers lose out on services
Relevant answer
Answer
As students move up in grades the curriculum content becomes more advanced. The high achievers tend to grasps concepts quick, they perform well in tests on knowledge of skills like multiple choice questions which is the mode of testing in high stakes tests but when tested with varied assessment tools and methods they tend to pan out to just above average performance in other assessment areas and struggle through some concepts that the low achievers grasp easily.
I agree with Adrian and Michael that the area of high achievement is often related to knowledge of skills, leaning more towards IQ style testing which tends to be skewed to only an assessment area on which the achievement gap is based.
Different factors should be considered in the components that determine high achieving students and how the achievement gap relates to them.  In order to determine high achieving students, all students should have the benefit of understanding the curriculum content through differentiated instructions, differentiated methods of assessments and varied assessment tools.
The factor that determines the mindset of the students is an aspect that bears consideration in the relationship between achievement gap and high achieving students. The elements that contribute to a student’s mindset in some cases are extrinsic, which tends to give credence to the perceived mindset intrinsically.
If all the areas of instruction and assessments mentioned are purposefully and effectively implemented, and the factors that affect a student’s mindset are eliminated, a student who achieves high above average level on all areas tested can be said to be a high achieving student.  The achievement gap between the performance of high achievers and low achievers at this point may not be very significant because instructions and assessment have been differentiated to meet all learners’ needs.
Even though students have been identified as high achieving, assessment data will throw up specific skills and concepts that the students fail to demonstrate proficiency in.
I believe that the relationship between achievement gap and high achieving students is subjective, as Mark affirms that knowledge of theory is not the same as knowledge of practical application and flexible thinking.
