I am writing a section on overtourism for the next edition of the Cultural Tourism textbook. I have seen cultural experiences (such as rail corridors turned into bike paths between country towns) that help with underuse issues. However, there also has been some discussion in Australia regarding slow tourism as a means to reducing overuse. My question is: what types of cultural experiences are there for slow tourism that reduce the impacts of overtourism?

As a researcher, one question that keeps coming to my mind is: Is knowledge induced with the social, political, and cultural factors of the territorial context within which it is produced? Do countries give access to certain topics to be discussed and not others?
For example, as someone in the field of urbanism working in Egypt, can researchers discuss and publish papers regarding cities for women (feminist cities)?
How about the LGBTQ community?
How about the marginalized communities, e.g. black community, refugees, etc.
How about topics on religion?
How about politics? Topics that may tackle / criticize the ruling system
Regardless whether the researcher supports these topics or not, do you think a researcher has access to openly discuss them in countries that establish certain standards? (Any country in the world)

Dear Dr.Taher,
People today expect cities to be livable, cultural hubs with sustainable lifestyles. Interest in urban planning and development is growing in this setting. This curiosity has given rise to a new perspective on the goals and operations of cities. Cities should be enjoyed more as "culture havens" than as just places to live. To fulfill these desires, cities can be developed and renewed through cultural planning. Cultural planning has been a concept for more than 30 years, and many city planners are familiar with it. The goal is to involve locals in the planning process of how they want their cities to be, rather than just creating spaces where people can display art or host other cultural activities. Speaking with residents of the city or region where cultural planning will begin will help with this. In order to better understand the local cultural environment, this fosters cooperation between local residents and communities. Urban social innovation strategies, among other things. Interactions between citizens and cities are at the heart of everything. All members of a community will participate in the development of their city under this model, but the process will mostly be cultural rather than political. In order to improve living conditions, people from various political perspectives can come together. This actually occurs, and individuals have come together at the local level in their desire to better people's quality of life.

The development of smart cities is a part of the broader concept of sustainable pro-ecological development based on the use of modern, innovative information technologies and in addition to ecology.
In this way, the development of smart cities also improves people's lives and can make people happier.
Do you agree with me on the above matter?

Answer
Dear Leila,
Yes, I agree with your thesis that the development of smart cities will significantly improve people's quality of life, because modern infrastructure and amenities mean fewer development, system and infrastructural constraints. In my opinion, the development of smart cities should take into account the implementation of the principles of environmental policy, sustainable development goals and the green circular economy. Therefore, the development of modern cities should follow the model of sustainable, pro-environmental smart cities.
Thank you very much,
Best wishes,
Dariusz

Hi everyone,
I think the approaches of policy mobilities and policy translation help us to understand the contextspecific assembling processes of "creative cities". In order to critically analyse "creative cities" and to develop progressive "creative cities" new perspectives and methods are needed.
What is your research on "creative cities" about in particular? What informs your research? I'm looking forward to discussing our perspectives!
Regards,
Moritz

Hi everyone,
first of all I'm trying to figure out if dispositive analysis is a useful perspective for geographical research. Furthermore I think about doing further research on creative cities using this perspective. Why are there just a few geographers using the dispositive, introduced by Michel Foucault, although it allows for adressing material and immaterial aspects of ("creative") urbanism for instance? Are there disciplinary, theoretical reasons, path dependencies in geographical thinking with Foucault? I'm looking forward to your critical input!

Creative city is a cutting-edge topic for urban and regional policies, however, it's really difficult to find spatial planning tools on this matter (such as maps, cartography, indicators, development plans, local action plans,ecc.). Do you know some interesting case-studies?
