Some of my friends and I want to improve our knowledge about "participatory design workshops" in a fundamental way. Would you happen to know of any books or papers that we should check out? We'd really appreciate your help!
Relevant answer
Answer
There's an open collection of Service Design Tools which captures many workshop methods for participatory design: here: https://servicedesigntools.org/
As the name suggests it has a focus on Design for Services and the approaches put high-value on the views of end-users (as workshop participants).
Hopefully helpful :-)

I will constraint this question to cases where two or more people discuss a technical problem. An example could be discussing stress on a new part that will go on an expensive new assembly.
For the purposes of my question, I would consider a computer aid when the computer is performing calculations or displaying graphics more complex than a chart.
The objective behind my questions is to see if technical matters are discussed in a way that could as easily be discussed using paper prints or if despite having computational tools available, the group don't make the most of the computational power available during their discussions.
Relevant answer
Answer
In my experience, my colleagues and I use our laptops extensively when discussing technical matters.  What is interesting is that when handwritten documentation is required, it is more often written on whiteboard walls or glass walls and then photographed using cellphone cameras.  Little to no paper is used.  To directly answer your question, computational resources are the tool of choice when discussing technical problems - specifically laptops, as well as e-mail and mobile phone cameras.

The Q&A facility of ResearchGate is a great way for workers to find solutions to vexing problems, make contact with like minded researchers, etc. Yet, it seems a long way from the support that could yield increased collaborative interaction between researchers, and perhaps even lead to publications. What might others wish for in such a facility? Would such a facility get used? Other comments?
Relevant answer
Answer
I would be VERY cautious about placing research data and paper drafts in online space I do not control.

Currently, I try to visualize knowledge about sustainable behaviour. I.e., I'd like to construct diagrams showing (primary causal) argumentations about why certain behaviours are (un-)sustainable. It would be an aim, to visualize the consequences of our actions and their environmental and societal impacts and to encourage discussions about the underlying argumentations, based on these visual representations. Ideally, such diagrams could be developed cooperatively.
Does anyone know about related work?
Does anyone even know about the existence of such "sustainability knowledge modelling languages"?
(Or do you think, the idea to visualize such sustainability-knowledge would be unproductive?)

The Club of Rome essentially did what you are asking for in its 1972 publication, "The Limits to Growth", by modelling a number of different scenarios. The results only of these scenarios were shown in a series of graphs, but not the underlying structure of the models. However, the structure of these models and subsequent models can be viewed and run using dynamic simulation software. One free software package is Vensim PLE. When using Vensim PLE (and other similar software) a conceptual model is first developed graphically using symbols for stocks, flows, and linkages. The direction of influence (positive and negative feedbacks) are then added. Quantification of influence is established by using equations and the model is then validated by comparing simulations against historical data and making necessary adjustments to the model. The validated model can then be used to create different scenarios by using slide controls to change the values of various parameters in the model. I recommend John Sterman's book "Business Dynamics: Systems Thinking and Modeling for a Complex World".

How can we differentiate between horizontal and vertical enterprise?
Relevant answer
Answer
Horizontal and vertical can also describe how a business is structured internally, and how communication flows.
In Horizontal organization, offices at equal levels on the organizational chart can talk to each other and the communication is "flattened."
Vertical organization is hierarchical and communication must go up the organizational hierarchy and down by another path to reach another office at the same level of the organizational chart.

Can we be sure if it is not just a phase, and it will not disappear any time soon?
Relevant answer
Answer
 Dear Hani,
Im positive/absolute confidente that this will never disappear. Why? Because the "social interaction" among people is a basic need. So, IT is just providing new ways of interaction - digital ones, mobile ones. Like I simple don't believe that People will ever stop their intrinsic need of communicate, we can see in the future renewing of the approach of the development of new solution for social networking, but this is an Era that have come to stay.
Best wishes for your research, hope have not been too much philosophical

I would like to know, how can I understand the methodology of research? Such as I want to publish a model or method in current information systems. How can I understand what is the most suitable method or path should I go to reach success? (analyze or collecting data)
Relevant answer
Answer
It depends on the objective , type of respondents and time lines .
If the objective is to assess  demand for FMCG products in a  specific geography , it is the best to do primary consumer surveys physically, telephonically or thru internet . On the other hand , it is for industrial products, secondary survey can be done by studying / analysing reports already available on  similar products or demand drivers for such products.

What are the different matrices to be considered for  calculating Return of Investment(ROI) for using Cloud in providing Citizen Centric Services through e-Governance Applications.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Dr. Das, nice question. But I am afraid, all efforts need not have ROI, especially for extendong citizen centric egovernance services. In my view, business values would determine squarely the metrics to be used for ROI. In thus case, like net neutrality, one had to be careful, whether we need such measurement! In fact, measure that is measurable.
Some refinement of this question would clarify your intent. For example, would some one lime to measure B2C services piggyback on this infrastructure or would one lime to make G2C services revenue based?

In superconductors, the magnetic effects are carried by Cooper pairs with zero spin. These are assumed to be two electrons bound with zero spin. Why not think of superconductivty as a field theoretic model carried by massive zero spin photons satisfying the Klein-Gordon equation?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Professor Arbab,
I suggest that the Cooper pairs could be two neutrinos bound with zero spin. Because on your paper about the massive photons, they are magnetic monopoles, and they can render massless photon described by quantum field theory. So the massive photons seem to be Cooper pairs of neutrinos.

You could consider to use Twitter. It has a really nice API to get tweets, followers and trending topics.
If you use python there is a really nice module for that:
This is a nice example: http://www.twittermood.org/
They extract the mood from the tweets and build a map.
Good luck!

I'm investigating Shadow Systems in IT, meaning all systems architecture that is not "official" but created by user and other stakeholders to do their jobs (yes, that includes all those mini systems in excel). Does anyone have pointers to studies on the subject, or practical experiences about the good and bad points of such systems?

Answer
Thanks a lot, Abdessamad Mouzoune!
Yes, the last article I already have it, but the first one and second are a nice addition to the reading list. Specially the term "Feral System" as a synonym of the Shadow one, which may help me find more literature about it.
Great! Thanks!
