Hypothetical:
I conduct a survey and ask the respondents to answer a yes/no question "do you consider yourself to be an alcoholic". Their responses correlates with high/low averages on another measure "Qualities of Alcoholism" (QoA, e.g. yes=high, no=low). Most of the responses are in the 'no' camp. My questions are:
- Should I include everyone in the sample (yes and no's) if I'm comparing QoA to another measure (e.g. 'Effects of Drinking' scale) or should I just section out the 'yes' cases?
- What would the effects be on regression analyses if I took either approach?
Relevant answer
Answer
- **Include Everyone**: Provides a broader, generalizable analysis but may weaken the relationship in regression due to the inclusion of the 'no' responses.
- **Section Out 'Yes' Cases**: Focuses on a specific subgroup, likely strengthening the relationship in regression but limiting generalizability.

What are the key elements of youth response to climate change as demonstrated through participation in Indigenous land-based camps, and how do these experiences contribute to environmental education and advocacy among Indigenous youth in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada?
Inspired from Youth response to climate change: Learning from Indigenous land-based camp at the Northern Saskatchewan Indigenous Communities, Canada.

Answer
Climate change is a universal concern that affects every part of our planet. The voices of young individuals provide invaluable insights into the intricacies and implications of this crisis. The youth understand that the climate crisis is interconnected with other societal and economic issues, and they call for radical transformation. They are conscious of their role and responsibility in combating climate change and are determined to seek solutions. Inclusivity is crucial in the fight against climate change, and the youth's voices reflect a sense of hope. In India, Climate change and environmental issues have garnered significant public attention, including that of youth climate groups, who are concerned about vital issues such as water, waste, air pollution, health, carbon emissions, tree plantations, and more that affect their communities. These youth climate groups have taken the initiative to work with local, national, and international coalitions, including volunteering with organizations such as Greenpeace and Amnesty International, to contribute to advancing climate action

During flood, the people are shifted to Relief Camps on high lands, which are also also normally surrounded by flood water and the digging of pit latrine (temporary option) is very difficult due to less unsubmerged areas and high subsoil water level.
Also. the accessibility of existing options for the people living in higher floors (in case of multistoried RCC buildings) becomes an issue.
In such situation, what could be the best technological option to address the issue?

Hi everyone,
I am looking for suggestions to store biological samples in the field for endocrinology analyses, where I will not have electricity. One of the options we are evaluating is a solar freezer, which would be very useful also to cool down ice packs, that will be used together with a cooler box to transport samples from the field to where the camp is. On the other side, I am struggling to find a unit that can guarantee -20C and that looks resistant enough to humidity and heat (the campsite is in Kenya and there is always the possibility of some water too as the tents sometimes leak in case of heavy rain). The other option I am evaluating is liquid nitrogen. With liquid nitrogen tanks (ie 30 L), how many fecal samples (20 grams in cryovials) will I be able to store for about 2-3 weeks (after which the samples will be transferred to a major lab)? Is there any way to have a sort of ice packs to be cooled in the liquid nitrogen tank, to be used with the cooler box to transport the samples from the field to the camp?
Thank you for your help!

welcome!
I am happy to give you some advise to solve the problem easily.
You can use only one solar panel to convert the solar energy into electricity.
You need only one battery to store the electricity and one thermoelectric peltier cooler and thermal storage box.
You can search the web to get the components of this system and assemble it.
Best wishes

“If an outbreak were to happen, it would be close to impossible to contain,” Syrian-American activist Leena Zahia said.
She was speaking about the possibility of a Covid-19 epidemic in the refugee camps, both inside and outside Syria, that cumulatively house millions of people displaced by the civil war, a prospect that gives public health and aid workers nightmares these days. In the camp of Vial, on the Greek island of Chios, for example, more than 6,000 people are now crammed into a space intended for about 1,000.
The paucity of food in the refugee camps has led to an epidemic of malnourishment. There is a lack of basic sanitation, with far too few toilets and bathrooms. And there are next to no state-of-the-art medical supplies and very few doctors. In the camps in and around Syria, for example, Zahia estimates only 1.4 doctors for every 10,000 people.
It will be the most difficult one to control if it spreads among Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh where more than 8,60,000 stateless Rohingya refugees live in the world’s largest and most densely populated refugee camp, Kutupalong. About half of the refugees are children. Can you imagine what can be happened if the Corona outbreak is there?

Just this week, I noted two cases of extreme mange in coyotes in my research area. Coincidentally, I had camped out by a cattle trough in the area overnight in September and three days later both my dog and I had a bad case of Scabies, (same thing as mange).
Has anyone dealt with this in wildlife species? What organization do I contact with my findings?
I'd appreciate advice.

I am gearing up for my dissertation proposal and i am running into a bit of a snag with my research design and analysis of my data. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a study you may be familiar with, or provide some insight on how to use the scales most effectively.  Essentially, here is my study: I want to study the impact exposure to a summer camp environment impacts a child's self report of resiliency. To do this, i am using focus groups to operationalize a summer camp experience and defining several "hallmarks" of camp. Then i'm going to create a scale measuring exposure to those hallmarks. Finally, i am going to pre-test/post-test campers before and after their first summer at camp looking for change in resiliency scores. I will be using the Resiliency Scales for Children and Adolescents which has several subscales and three indexes. I want to try and correlate exposure to camp elements to changes in various resiliency scores. Is there a correlation of having an incredible tent family and an increased sense of belonging? Is there a correlation between going on a ton of wilderness trips and decreased emotional reactivity? Etc. Etc. Factor analysis has been one idea, but i still have to work out the logistics as to how this would happen. I'm wondering if this is just several ANOVA's within one study or if there is a better approach to having multiple variables. Do you have any suggestions of research designs, or analysis strategies that you think would meet the vision of this study? I really appreciate your insight and support! Thanks so much!

In ancient Greece, hoplite gained Kleos, glory, by dying in battle. If they were so injured that they could no longer fight, they would not be named on their tomb, therefore gaining no kleos. What kind of reception did they have when they returned to the polis, alive but no more fighter? Did the psyche of the particular polis affect this reception? Comparing the democracy of Athens with the military camp mentality of Sparta.

In respect of a slightly later period, both Arrian (II.67.1) and Curtius (III.viii.14 - 16) report on an incident where the Persian army massacred and mutilated a number of sick and invalid Macedonian troops who had been left behind at Issus while the army continued to march towards Syria where they thought the Persians were waiting.
There is no suggestion that these sick and invalid Macedonians had been abandoned. Rather, it would appear that they had been kept with the army till then as it marched through Cilicia, where Alexander had himself been seriously ill. (See my chapter The Road to Issus.) They were left behind at Issus presumably under care because Alexander was in rush to face the Persians, while being ignorant of their own change of position.
We know Alexander took a number of physicians with him on the expedition, and despite the unfortunate outcome, the story does point to a culture in Alexander's army at least of looking after the sick and invalid. This was probably influenced, given Alexander's own education and cultural leanings, by the Greek culture, at least in places like Athens, at the time.

Evening everyone i finally got an idea for my web based project so i thought of sharing it with you guys and collecting the feedback of my idea. So this is my idea...
I have planned to create a website for a medical care center/hospital which is capable of registering the patients and analyzing the data that is provided, it gives the report on what type of patients are getting registered to what medical care/diseases what i believe is that it might help health care center or a hospital in organizing different events or the medical camps and providing awareness on the specific subject using the report.
So this is my idea for my public health care and awareness project so please give some feedback for it or if you got any other idea share it with me so that i can implement in my project, say what to be done and what not to be, if anything wrong say me so that i can correct it. Thank you
Relevant answer
Answer
John, most hospitals (all in U.S.) have computer programs for registration and maintaining medical records. These are used to extract data for analysis and research. Because we do not know where you live, or the precise details of what your project is supposed to do, it is hard to advise you.
For an awareness project it seems like you should make sure the users are learning something. I might suggest a website tied to a product that someone is selling. If they had everyone sign up, then you could provide the awareness portion. For example, how about getting all mattress retailers to provide your website to those purchasing a mattress, and your website could provide ideas on how to use mattresses, clean them and have tips for sleeping. People who sign up could receive email updates on the info.....

I am looking for a reliable method for dating azoic sediments (conglomerates, sandstones and mudstones). they are triassic-Jurassic red sediments separated by the CAMP.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Mr. Afenzar: You have to investigate in more detail your red bed sediments and clearly distinguish between cement minerals, which are autochthonous and amenable to radiometric dating given they contain K, U, Th, and Rb such as some micaceous phyllosilicates, cryptomelane or uranyl-bearing supergene minerals. The majority of mineral phases might be of detrital origin which have only some implications on the lithological processes in the provenance area and give you a maximum age of formation which has very little meaning for your problem. Lithostratigraphic correlation with other strata of a defined age of sedimentation is possible but needs a lot of experience because you have to take into consideration lateral facies changes between the two.
I wish you much success
