There are a number of driving cycles and scenes (acceleration, hill-climbing, etc.) to be considered for vehicle design, including legislative requirements and each OEM's own design standards. Taking all the design trade-offs in terms of the cycles and scenes into consideration would be almost impossible and computationally intractable for example even in the case of design optimization. I am wondering how people manage it. Do they only focus on the cycles and scenes that are important for marketing purposes to determine the vehicle baseline design?

It is impossible for the OEMs to take all your mention conditions in consideration for vehicle design but it depends on where and how the vehicles is used. For example, in compact vehicle, the OEM have a cycle contain (30% Urban, 30% Extra Urban, 30 Highway, and 10% Mountain). For small size city vehicles, the Urban % will be increased.

To answer your question, we will need first to underline what is AI & machine learning in automotive value chain and how it is categorized, AI in automotive value chain can be as follows:
1. Manufacturing: Design, supply chain, production & post production.
2. Transportation: Driver assist, autonomous driving, cloud computing, driver risk management & driver monitoring.
3. Service: Predictive maintenance & insurance.
AI automotive value chain is the accumulated AI value produced by companies to sell AI components, AI materials and AI vehicles to consumers.
To truly tackle your questions, I will look at an excellent paper titled Artificial Intelligence in Automobiles published in 2021, it covers some major AI applications, their feasibility and what can be their commercial value based on initial AI investments, please have a go at reading the paper that I have posted at the bottom of the page, all the best with your research interests.

Dear colleague,
I am sending the following decomposition procedure which we used in the analysis of catalyst samples [1]:
1 g of the catalyst samples was weighed in a 50 ml beaker. 15 ml of
freshly prepared mixture of acids (5 ml conc. HNO3+15 ml conc. HCl)
was added to the sample and the beaker was covered with a watch
glass. The sample was left to stand for 1 h at room temperature in
order to prevent vigorous reactions. After that, the sample was heated
for 6 h on a water bath and allowed to cool down slowly to room
temperature. The content of the beaker was transferred quantitatively
into a 100 ml volumetric flask and filled up to the mark with redistillated
water. The undissolved material (γ-alumina+silicates)
has settled down and the supernatant solution was subjected to
analysis by ICP-AES. The volume of the solid residue is less than 0.4% of
the final volume.

Dear Community,
since UTAUT2 has already been discussed here several times, I can imagine that my concern also affects other people.
I use the addressed model to find out which factors influence the adoption of a certain product. Using the AMOS 28 program, I run a measurment model (CFA) and a structural model to evaluate a model fit.
//Unfortunately, I come across the following problem:
The measures TLI, CFI, GFI are minimally too low. Would you have a strategy for me on how to move the values more towards a model fit? I have already tried to remove the question items with low factor loadings without much effect.
I hope that the attached screenshots can give helpful information. Among the screenshots you can find the conceptualized model, the results of measurement model and the cut-off values as they were defined.

Dear Mr. Geiser, dear Mr. Gyamfi I am very greatful for your unexpectedly fast and comprehensive support.
I have done the following two approaches to improve the model fit:
  1. I covaried three error terms. Many thanks for the advice to have a look at the modification indices.
  2. Since no convergent validity was provided, I have considered the standard residuals and deleted the item with the largest deviation. Furthermore, I optimized the model by deleting all items with factor loadings below 0.7, if possible. In total, I removed five items from the model.
Thus, I now have a sufficiently fit model. According to some influential papers in the research field, CFIs and TLIs > 0.9 are interpretable as good fits.
  1. CMIN/DF: 2.236 ✓
  2. CFI: 0.952 ✓
  3. TLI: 0.94 ✓
  4. RMSEA: 0.066 ✓
Perhaps you can assist me with your expertise on the following issues:
  1. Two items have too low factor loadings (<0.7) in the constructs WR and EB. However I am not allowed to delete them. If I had deleted both underperforming items in each factor, the constructs would be statistically underidentified (min. 3 factors).
  2. No discriminant validity is given for the construct LEerw. The reason for this might be the particularly high correlation coefficient with HM. Higher factor loadings would help, but here I would need at least a loading of 0.94 in the deleted item.
  3. I could pass the cut-off values for all paramaters with deleting only three items instead of 5. Would you still suggest deleting all items that do not exceed the loading threshold of > 0.7?
What would be your advice, what conclusions do you derive from that result, how would you proceed?
The sample has 333 participants, was conducted in multiple countries, the participants have different backgrounds.

There seems to be a movement to electromobility in the sector, but i agree, hydrogen engines will play their part too in the movement away from fossil fuel vehicles. Regardless of which systems eventually becomes the norm, significant changes are going to be the result - although i wonder if we will see regional variations in the choice of system adopted.

Why are electric cars still much more expensive than an internal combustion engine?
What needs to change so that the price of electric cars will drop significantly and be lower than the price of cars equipped with an internal combustion engine?

More and more car companies are introducing versions of some models of produced electrically powered cars into production, ie they are becoming part of the increasingly global trend of electromobility. However, electric cars are still much more expensive than those powered by an internal combustion engine. In some countries, the state pays a significant part of the purchase of an electric car.
An interesting issue is that pro-ecological technologies have been known for a long time but have not been introduced to mass production. When the production of cars started at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, then electrically powered specimens appeared at that time, but mass production was not developed as part of the development of electromobility, but this method of power supply was replaced with internal combustion engines. Unfortunately, it took 100 years to finally take the issue of electromobility seriously.
In view of the above, I am asking you the following question:

Quick question I couldn't easily find a definite answer, so I hope someone here could help. I've been looking for information about the ratio (by weight) of glass or carbon fiber to epoxy matrix in composites that are used in automotive applications. The info I've found suggests that 60% fibre/40% epoxy matrix seems to be common for glass fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP), but does this apply in automotive applications, and is it representative for carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) as well?

60%/40% a typical fiber-matrix ratio for GFRP/CFRP composites . But it differs based on the number of layers, thickness, fabrication route and etc. while fabricating for particular application. Recently we fabricated the basalt fiber composites. We got better results for 70%/30%.

I suspect that the answer is "no" - as far as I could determine, there are quite a few tools available, but they are all quite expensive, and not open-source. Different software excels at different aspects (yard operations versus optimal mainline traffic timetables, for example). RTC (Rail Traffic Controller) and OpenTrack are two of many examples out there (google it), and I recall that in Europe RailSys was used often. You may find this article useful ( )
Having said that, I recall reading about PULSim ( ) - it seemed open-soure to an extent, maybe that works for you?

Great question Antonio! When dealing with RAW data values, first you want to determine if the numbers are hexadecimal or not. They will be prefaced with $ if they are hexadecimal (almost always are). After you know that then you wanna look for markers TID and CID. TID indicatesb Test Identification and CID indicates Component Identifications. The first TID tells you exactly what test is being performed by the ECU, the second CID tells you the actual values of that data (in RAW values). In order to convert these values to anything sensible you are going to need access to the manufacturers repair manual, specifically the "DI" or diagnostic inspection section.
Most manufacturers provide access to their repair manuals online, although access can be as expensive at $25/2 days. You are (in my experience) allowed to download the PDF of as many pages as you want within this time. I use TIS or Toyota Information Systems and have used this service to access all of the raw data OBDII conversions for my RAV4. Not only does the manual specify what each TID and CID is referring too, it also provides the UNITS and CONVERSION FACTORS for these numbers as read by a diagnostic device. Now a first party device will already know what these numbers mean but purchasing and accessing a manufacturer's Diagnostic Test Tool is very expensive and not at all necessary to the average automotive diagnostician.
What type of numbers are you looking at? I am able to retrieve all diagnostic data with Torque (android) as well as OBD Link (android) including raw values for "Mode $06" (for EVAP) and "ABS" and "SRS".

Automotive ceramic coatings that use sio2/tio2/graphene. Is A novel nanohybrid composite of TiO2, SiO2, reduced graphene oxide (TiO2@Si:Fe:rGO) is fabricated by the sol–gel method. The properties of the coated film were examined by structural and self-cleaning analyses using simulated discoloration/soiling and roofing tests. The coated substrate is excellent resistance to simulated acid rain and significantly preserved the substrate from soiling in roofing tests. The surface modality of the ceramics can be observed and characterized under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The group of silica coating + Titanium+ graphene oxide attains the highest shear bonding strength used specially to dentin.

Prabhu[4] given below, prepared the reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/TiO2 composite self-cleaning material according to the solvothermal method and improved the visible light absorption efficiency of the composite self-cleaning materials, which exhibited the good photocatalytic efficiency and super-hydrophilic performance under light irradiation.
Synthetic process:
Sol-gel processed silica layer was applied on the PC substrates prior to TiO2 coating. A silica sol was prepared by adding 1.5 mL TEOS in 4 mL ethanol and this mixture hydrolysed by adding 3 mL of double distilled water with 1 mL of nitric acid. Stir overnight and spin-coated on UV-treated PC substrates at 2000 rpm. This silica coating can annealed at 100 °C for 2 h A crack-free surface morphology and low surface roughness compared to the coatings prepared from the higher vol% of SiO2 in TiO2. The water drops on this coating acquires a contact angle less than 10° after UV irradiation for 30 min. For further, graphne addition refer [4] no which may be quite useful for you.

Hello,
I am doing a metal forming simulation in Abaqus, and I want to create a mesh similar to the one in the attached image. Particularly, on the "Blank" part, where there is a dissimilar mesh transition, going from fine to coarse.
I heard that if I use TIE constraints then this will work. But it is not clear to me how to do this?
How could I use TIE constrains in Abaqus to create and merge dissimilar regions of mesh density within a part?

In my exprience, it is best to connect two different nodes (one on each mesh) to prevent over-constraints. Tie constraints, can basically allow you to select two sets (one on each mesh) and link their nodes together so that all the TIED nodes move with the same amount

the so-called quasi-isotropic (QI) stacking sequence can be obtained by exploiting the well-known Werren and Norris condition (see the book Anisotropic Elasticity by P. Vannucci for a deeper insight into the topic).
However, the Werren and Norris condition is just a sufficient condition to get a QI stack (recall that in this case the stack is isotropic only in membrane, while is complitely anisotropic in bending).
Necessary and sufficient conditions for obtaining fully isotropic stacks (both in membrane and bending) as well as other general properties, like membrane or bending orthotropy, uncoupling, membrane or bending square symmetry, etc., can be obtained by using the so-called polar formalism. By means of the polar formalism, the membrane, bending and membrane/bending coupling tensor of the laminate are expressed in terms of tensor invariants (which are called polar parameters) which are directly related to the elastic symmetries of the laminate. I think for any material to be accepted it must pass standard tests according to the required specifications and requirements. These requirements and specifications are application oriented. The secondary issue is whether the solution for one industry can be commercialized in another industry. It could be adopted in an another industry if the cost of including the solutions is acceptable and profitable. For example, remote diagnostic technology solution in the automotive industry (OnStar) was effectively used decades ago in the telephone industry, and it will be used in future in all the household equipment such as refrigerators, washers, dryer, etc. Yes, a solution for one industry can be introduced to another industry if the solutions fits in the business model and create value for both the company and customers.

0,9 bar is usually the maximum when you have a mechanical pump (Diesel engines). But the pump is pretty slow and after braking it takes some time to recover the vacuum.
Petrol engines are faster but usually end with 0,8 bar. Most modern petrol cars need mechanical pumps as well due to emission requirements which do not give enough vacuum anymore.

Here I am gonna ask a really stupid question, but I don't accept stupid answers.
These days, I got chances to "play" with some automotive radar PCB (not assembled one, I do not have the chip's information), but I wanna know what is what on the PCB.
Normally I take the most array number one is LRR Tx, since higher the gain longer the range, then take next to him as SRR Tx, since they are from the same area (chip area, transmitter?), then take others as receivers, usually four of them.
But on some boards, they are all from the same transceiver area.
My question is that 1. normally how many LRR Tx, SRR Tx and how many receiving antennas on the board?
My another question is that 2. I heard 76-77GHz is for LRR-Tx, 77-81GHz is for SRR-Tx. Is it correct? and the Rx is 76-81? why don't we use LRR-Rx (76-77GHz), and SRR-Rx (77-81GHz) separately?

I am about to visit wind tunnel facilities to test an automotive vehicle. The speed at which the CFD analysis are being carried out is 17 m/s To avoid the blockage effect a scaled model will be created with a scale of 1:3. I am assuming that in order to achieve the kinematic similarity the Reynolds number must be the same. Hence, the speed must be 3 times greater than the speed of CFD simulations. I have assumed that the forces acting on the car will be given by the equation RealForces =(1/scale^2)*ModelForces.
These forces will be the forces for the real car running at three times the speed?How can I calculate the forces acting on the real car at 17m/s??

The validity of wind tunnel results obtained in testing of scale models is based on the fluid mechanics Principle of Dynamic Similarity (White, F.M., Fluid Mechanics, 6 ed., Boston, USA: McGraw-Hill, 2003, p. 866) which states that: "If two physical phenomena can be described using the same formulation (same equations and same initial and boundary conditions), the solutions for one of the phenomena are valid for the other one."
For the motion of air around and obstacle, this Principle guarantees that the non-dimensional results measured in a wind tunnel for a scale model (e.g., lift, drag, and pitching moment coefficients) will be the same as for the real, full-scale obstacle if the following conditions are fulfilled:
  1. Geometric similarity: all relevant aerodynamic features of the real obstacle must be accurately replicated in the scale model
  2. The Mach number must be the same for the model and obstacle θ γ
  3. (as you said) The Reynolds number must also be the same
  4. Heat transfer (thermal effects) and diffusion can be neglected
For CFD, this is not usually a problem, since you have much flexibility in defining the boundary conditions and other settings such that these 4 conditions are satisfied and, for example, Re and M match those of the real fluid problem.
Now the dilemma comes when trying to extrapolate wind tunnel results to the real fluid problem: If the fluid properties for both the tests and real case are the same (i.e., same speed of sound (T), ρ and μ), and the scale model is smaller or larger than the real obstacle, it is obvious that it is not possible to have simultaneously the same M and Re as in the real problem. If we cannot replicate simultaneously both parameters, it is then necessary to choose which one will be kept similar to the real case. Generally, we choose the parameter with a stronger influence on the flow. For instance, roughly speaking M is dominant for supersonic flows and Re for subsonic flows (your case). Thus, for example, in high-subsonic testing, we would strive to work with the same Re as in the real case, and would not pay so much attention to M. Effectively, this means that we are not complying fully with the requirements of the Principle of Dynamic Similarity, and thus the test results have some error respect to the behavior in the real case. Many researchers have characterized the Re and M scaling effects to be able to correct for this error when extrapolating the wind tunnel results to the real case, if the Re and/or M in the tunnel are different than those of the real case.
If the fluid properties for both your tests and real case are the same, you should try to work with a model as similar as possible in dimensions the real obstacle, bearing in mind also these recommendations (Barlow, J.B., Rae, W.H., Pope, A., Low-speed Wind Tunnel Testing, 3 ed., NY, USA: Wiley & Sons, 1999, p. 713):
  • Blocking coefficient (ratio of frontal area of model to frontal area of test chamber): should be less than 0.1
  • Wingspan (or width) of the model: should be less than 4/5 (80%) of test chamber width
If you manage to have same Re and M, then the lift and drag coefficients (cL = Lift/(0.5*rho*V^2*S) and cD = Drag/(0.5*rho*V^2*S)) that you obtain from the tunnel can be extrapolated to the real vehicle. If you manage to have only the same Re, the lift and drag coefficients that you obtain should be corrected, but this error should not be very large and maybe the values from the tunnel are still valide to you. If you don't manage to have the same Re, then you could correct the cL and cD following the procedure described in the attached image from White's book Fluid Mechanics, for which you need to have values of cL or cD at several flow velocites (i.e., at several Reynolds numbers).

There is a big drive into lightweight materials i.e. composites, aluminium, etc. As Emmanuel has mentioned additive manufacturing is big on the agenda. The lightweighting is mainly supporting hybrid and electric powertrains. These powertains are heavy, so to reduce weight and increase range the industry is looking at lightweighting.
I suppose with motorcycles it will be similar. I've seen a motorcycle manufacturers also developing electric powertrains. So again, lightweight materials would be good. Most people tend to concentrate on the frame. However, how about reducing the weight of the engine (if keeping internal combustion) and look at reducing the weight of components such as suspension, etc.

I´m currently working on my bachelor thesis about the usage of Sequential Pattern / Sequential Rule Mining-techniques for automotive predicitve maintenance.

I don´t have access to real-life automotive predictive maintenance data, so i thought about taking an webpage click-stream dataset. So my consideration is to take an sequential dataset and then gradually minimize it.
Let‘s assume that with an dataset of 1000 sequences it´s possible to extract 50 sequential rules with confidence 0,8, and with half of the data (500 sequences) it´s only able to extract 35 rules with confidence 0,8, with 50 sequences only 10 rules, and so on. I think i will only change size and variability of the data set.
Do I think correctly or are my thoughts wrong?

There are several issues that need to be addressed concretely:
  1. What is the 'length' of the rules i.e. how many parameters/factors/features are a rule dependent on?
  2. Do all the rules have the equal 'length'?
  3. Does 1000 sequences mean that there are 1000 samples of sequences?
  4. Are the rules and sequences overlapping or are they disjoint?
  5. What does the 'confidence' actually mean? Is the confidence in frequent itemset mining? Is it the percentage of of all possible rules? Is it the probability of encompassing all possible rules? or sth else?

Originally, I wanted to use random stratified sampling for my survey involving an automotive industry. The sample is based on the value chain comprising of manufacturing, sales, quality finance and HR. The composition of the respondents follows the percentage breakdown of the population. I did not have problems with sampling during the pilot but during the main survey, there were a number of organizational changes that resulting in poor response from the sales division with only less than 5 respondents out of a target 150 respondents. What should I do? I am consideringremoving the sales division and focusing on the balance and considering focusing the study on the supply chain. Alternatively, could I use all respondents minus sales but still consider the survey to be on the automotive industry? Any other suggestions?

i think that you don't need data backups, data backups can't give real time plotting i think that you must need some RF signal from the sensor so that the signal can be send from the sensor front to the monitoring system so that you can process the signal. Now a days we advanced with Wireless Sensor Network so you can make an embedded system such that it can send data from vehicles and also you can back up data and real time processing.
