Another factor for a smooth visualisation of an interpolated result, is the data used for the interpolation.
If the data used are "poor", i.e. unable to give high quality interpolation result, it is almost for sure to get an expected poor visualisation result as well.

CASE GRAMMAR: A MERGER OF SYNTAX AND SEMANTICS
Charles Fillmore’s Deep Cases are determined not by syntax, but rather by semantics. Rather than having Subject, Indirect Object and Direct Object, Fillmore uses such terms as Agent, Experiencer, Instrument, and Patient.
The semantic features often occur in contrasting pairs, like Animate vs. Inanimate, and Cause vs. Effect. Thus:
Agent: Animate Cause
Experiencer: Animate Effect
Instrument: Inanimate Cause
Patient: Inanimate Effect
In an Active Sentence the most active Deep Case is eligible to become the Subject and the least active is eligible to become the Direct Object.
In a Passive Sentence the least active Deep Case is eligible to become the Subject and the most active case becomes an Object of the Preposition “by.”
Normally, the most active deep case is selected as the subject of the sentence:
The Actor if there is one
If not, the Instrument if there is one
If there is no Actor or Instrument, the Object becomes eligible. Therefore we have the following:
The boy opened the door with the key.
The key opened the door.
The door opened.
Is Case Grammar an effective method for showing the interrelationships between syntax and semantics?

Anton: Excellent response. It's OK if the levels remain separated as long as there is eventually an interface between the two. This is the tricky part.

Animations are known to be a fast and very efficient way of dissemination of knowledge, insights, and understanding of complex systems. Through the animations, quite complicated research can be easily shared among all scientific disciplines.
While starting with complex systems descriptions of Dynamic Recrystallization in metals about almost 30 years ago, it had become very obvious almost instantly that animations carry with themselves a huge expressive power.
This recently led to development of the GoL-N24 open-source Python software that enables to create animations effortlessly. The user just defines the input parameters and the rest is done automatically. Share your software too.
This question is dedicated to all such animations and open-source-source software, which are producing them, in the area of complex systems.
Everyone is welcomed to share their own research in the form of animations with the relevant description.

Answer
This animation is depicting an array of identical emergents observed withing one specific neighborhood of GoL-N24 software. This emergent is called the frog.

Dear Animators and Others,
I am trying to animate a Martian in front of a still Martian landscape in Powerpoint. The Martian was created in MS Paint. So even though I set "transparent background", I find this only work INSIDE Powerpoint.
But when I INSERT the animation, I get a white back ground rectangle surrounding it.
Is there an easy and free-of-charge solution?
Relevant answer
Answer
Assumptions
1. You created the Martian using MS Paint (saved it as jpg).
2. You created the Martian Background in PowerPoint (PP) (using various shapes).
3. You added the Martian by creating a Rectangle (Shapes --> Rectangle).
4. Added an Animations (eg. Animations --> Lines).
Try the following:
1. Select the martian in PP.
2. Select "Picture Tools Format" in the menu bar just above the ribbon.
3. Click on or Select the "Remove Background" in the leftmost part of the ribbon.
That should do it. I have included the files that I created and used: martian.jpg and martian-landscape.ppt.

I want to visualize the deformation and failure animation as simulated in SOLIDWORKS via FEA through a game engine UNITY. Is there a way to export the 3D Model with simulation results (such as meshes, deformation, stress distribution and vertex colors) and key frame of the animation from SOLIDWORKS.
Relevant answer
Answer
As far as I know, the STL only contains geometry data. You have to export directly to FBX from Solidworks. I don't know if this is possible for free. Googling "Solidworks to fbx" I found a tutorial that shows a workflow that seems to work correctly. They use a plugin (Simlab composer). Maybe you can test it with a trial license. In the tutorial they open the FBX with Sketchfab, but you can import it in Unity or Blender as well.

I have animated images in a .gif file. I want to upload those files in my overleaf document. I am facing problem to upload .gif file, I have also searched possible solution in a google, however I couldn't solve it with available techniques. I would be really happy to get a genuine solution. Thanks :)
Relevant answer
Answer
Overleaf itself has no issue in accepting animated GIFs—the preview even shows the animation correctly.
Nevertheless, to create a compiled PDF document that will run the animation, you need to convert the individual frames into separate PNG files. With ImageMagick, the command would be
convert -coalesce anim.gif anim_%d.png
After uploading the stack of resulting PNG files, I suggest using the "animate" package (see http://ctan.math.utah.edu/ctan/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/animate/animate.pdf), which allows you to embed an animation with
\animategraphics[controls,loop,autoplay,scale=1]{framerate}{basename}{start}{end}
Using the above example, basename would be "anim_", and start and end the frame boundaries of the animation (part). Keep in mind that not all PDF viewers are capable of rendering the animation—Adobe Reader is one of those that works.

I am trying to make animation for different time steps. I have separate files ( .dat extension) for each time step. After uploading data files through Tecplot Data Loader, Time in Animate menu is not active. Neither could I find Time Strand Editor in Data menu nor solution time/ strand id in data set info. Time details from the plot menu is also not active. Does anyone know how can I get animation from these files? I have access to Tecplot 360 2006 version and currently I am using that. Would appreciate your help. Thank you.
Relevant answer
Answer
Ho Pooja,
Looks like the 2006 version is quite outdated...
Please check whether internal Python scripting is available.
If it is then you can do animation by a simple trick of:
a) loading all the data at the biggining
b) iterating in a loop, showing one piece of data and hiding the rest at a time
Hope it helps.

Can you please help me,
I have done a COMSOL simulation and my result is a 3D plot with slices. The problem is that when I want to export or play the animation, the result is different from the 3D plot; actually, the animation doesn't show any changes (although the player seems to be playing) and it is not similar to the 3D plot.
However, when I change the time and plot the 3D plot, it shows the differences between the two times; but the animation doesn't show anything.
I have attached the 3D plot and an image of the animation.

I am thinking of doing a symptomatic interpretation of Big Hero 6 using the contextualist and generic approaches in film theory, but I am not sure if this is the best methodology for my project. Does anyone have any thoughts on this (possible problems, etc.) and how well this approach would lend to a discussion of the film's meaning?
Additionally, I'm curious as to how other researchers have analyzed animation films and determined meaning/what the film tells about the concerns of modern society. Please share if you have any examples!
Thank you very much for your help!
Relevant answer
Answer
Which methodology you want to use depends entirely on your approach. If you want to analyse the content and ideology behind the film, there is plenty of examples about that, such as:
Ayres, Brenda (Ed.) (2013). The emperor's Old Groove. Decolonizing Disney's Magic Kingdom. New York: Peter Lang Publishing.
Davis, Amy M. (2006). Good girls and wicked witches: Women in Disney's feature animation.
Eastleigh: John Libbey.
If your interest are the visuals:
Allan, Robin (1999). Walt Disney and Europe: European influences of the animated feature films of Walt Disney. Indiana: Indiana University Press. Bloomington and Indianapolis.
And if it's the music what you're interested of:
Care, Ross B. “Threads of Melody: They Evolution of a Major Film Score – Walt Disney’s Bambi”. The Quarterly Journal of the Library of Congress, vol 40, num. 2, 1983, pp. 76-98.

How can I simulate the model from simulink and at the same time I can see the animation and also graph displays? Any suitable CAD software which can easily interface/integrate/embed with simulink?
Next I want to simulate the same lower body model but wearing lower body exoskeleton. Same as above, but now how can I simulate the exoskeleton and the lower body at the same time by using separate simulink controllers?
Appreciate any ideas. Can Matlab SimMechanics do this? What I know, we cannot have human body CAD model simulated in SimMechanics.
Thanks for any inputs.
Relevant answer
Answer
Thanks for the answers.
As for the human body model, so far I cannot find the human body model exported from solidwork which can work in simmechanics. I mean I got the articulated human body model, opened in solidwork and then exported to simmechnics.
Unless the human body is regarded as humanoid robot (use humanoid model), than the model is runable in simmechanics.

Video abstracts come in a variety of forms (have a look, e.g., at the Cell youtube-channel) and lately I tried to establish a format I can offer to other scientists. I decided to have very short abstracts (not longer than 2 minutes), which can be produced quickly and inexpensively. (The contents of the paper is summarized in a few and short sentences and is illustrated by schematic drawings set up during the video/have a look at my youtube-channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCittg4tLzmxR_xsgWlwXpxA) for examples).
Do you think something like this is suitable or do you prefer other forms as, for example, interviews or animations?
Relevant answer
Answer
The audience intended here are fellow scientists. Scientists working in the same or a related field, who might take such a video as a basis to decide whether they will read the paper or not.
You are right, I could still add information on author affiliation (in one of the first statements). I am not so sure about methodological details. Often, I think, a methodological keyword is sufficient and scientists can figure out, which approach the project presented took. (Sometimes people ask that I should also look at appropriateness of this approach, soundness of data, validity of results, etc.. This will not be possible of course....)

How to best defend Procedurally Generated Animation vs Conventionally used animation Techniques? Like Keyframe Vs Motion Capture VS PGA vs Phy. Dyn.
Relevant answer
Answer
They both have their place, so it's not an either-or issue.
Procedural animation is necessary for massively complex systems, like fluid simulation over a rocky terrain, or for a virtual crowd, like an army.
You can't manually key-frame animate ten thousand soldiers.
However, artists prefer to have as much artistic control as possible, so there has been a lot of work in artistically "directed" procedural animation.
The "holy grail" is a blend where you have high-level artistic control over the crowd, or fluid behavior, but the details are generated procedurally.
This is just a natural evolution of animation.
The first animations were done frame-by-frame. Then key-frame animation allowed artists to automatically interpolate the in-between frames via splines, but still doing it for every joint in a character.
Then IK and bio-mechanical simulation + AI (e.g. Endorphin) allowed to only specify the foot and hand movements, or even just the high-level character movement and automate the joint angle animation.
Crowd-sim systems, like Massive allow an even higher-level control for an entire crowd.
So, we've been using procedural animation ever since we stopped manually specifying character joint angles for each frame!
It really comes down to productivity.
Sure, you could hire a thousand very skilled artists (if you have the budget) and manually animate everything.
But we all have deadlines and the whole point of using computers is to automate tedious things.
Manually rigging and key-frame / IK animating 10000 soldiers, or the collapse of a wall made of 8000 bricks, fall under tedious, in my book.

How is procedural Generated Animation (PGA) using procedural programming techniques, as used in Games industry, different form Physics or Dynamics based Animation techniques for biped or quadruped locomotion?
Relevant answer
Answer
A procedural animation is any animation controlled by programmer goal, not real-life one. Examples: procedural generation of plants, particle systems, movement along motion graph, etc. Often such applications are designed just to provide nice look and widely use random elements. But still in the simulation Physics and Dynamics can be used.
If planning of the next group of steps in your case of locomotion depends on game events and interaction with the scene objects, this is not “procedural-based” animation. If the actor or animals walk through the scene in random direction this is a kind of procedure generated animation. In any case algorithm of locomotion simulation still is based on Dynamics or Inverse Kinematics.

I'm researching about Author animation in Mexico, related to indigenous themes
Relevant answer
Answer
There's so many definitions in animation, but you can start on those ones:
1) «To animate literally means “to give life to”; animation is moving something (or making something appear to move) that cannot move itself.» (Parent, 2002, p. XVIII)
2) From Paul Wells you can read from books "Understanding Animation" and "Animation Genre and authorship"
3) an article from Philip Kelly Denslow (published in A reader in animation studies - Jayne Pilling)
5) and off course, from my phd thesis (but it's in portuguese which should not be to hard for an Mexican :-)) where I define the movement in animation based into 5 main rules. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/262232720_O_Movimento_na_Animao_Para_uma_Reclassificao_Digital
YoBut I'have an article in english "Digital Animation: Repercussions of New Media on Traditional Animation Concepts" that could help (I hope).
best,
Filipe

A cartoon is a drawing that portrays situations in an exaggerated style for
humorous or satirical effect.
See, for example, the sample cartoon from an 1869 issue of Punch magazine. Many cartoons have the universality of music. We do not have to read music to appreciate a sonata or symphony. Only listening is required. Similarly, one does not need to read the captions for most cartoons to see the humor or satire in a cartoon drawing by itself.
Every country has its own cartoons and cartoonists. Here are some examples:
Ziraldo Alves Pinto; Brazilian cartoonist
Steve Bell (cartoonist) The Guardian (UK)
Sergio Aragonés, known for his contributions to Mad
Richard Decker, The New Yorker
Yuliy Abramovich Ganf, Russia, Krokodil magazine
Geoff "Jeff" Hook, Australian, Herald Sun
John Leech, 19th-century Punch cartoonist
Mario Miranda, The Economic Times, India
Mana Neyestani, Iranian cartoonist
Shigeru Mizuki, manga cartoonist
René Pellos, French cartoonist
Peter Klusen, German writer and cartoonist
Cartoons appeal to young and old alike. So the question for this thread is Do cartoons have a message that we should take seriously? Do cartoons convey an underlying philosophy or message along with the humor of a cartoon?
Relevant answer
Answer
Francisco Goya y Lucientes sketched several series of cartoons which he obviously meant to be taken seriously. These are the "Caprichos" and "The Disasters of War." He satirizes superstition from his point of view as an "Enlightened" intellectual in the first collection, and the second collection is self-explanatory.

I am new to the field of facial animation and I want to transfer the animation of a real face to a virtual face. What method that uses MPEG4 do you recommend?
Relevant answer
Answer
Hm. Face tracking in a 3D animation program. Almost every 3D animation program knows some degree of face tracking. If you want to just transfer a video face to a virtual but also video face maybe you could use some compositing software like After Effects.
