Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know of publicly available observed riverine bathymetry datasets that are available for download?
Preferably, the datasets would not be cross-sections but raster or point-based observations of a continuous bathymetric profile.

These days, when talking about the circular economy, they use talking points without even mentioning the pollution production problem associated with the working of the traditional market or with economic activity which it is also present in the working of circular markets or circular economic activity...See how the UN CLIMATE CHANGE PROMISE talks about a circular economy with no link to its pollution production problem nature and with no mention of the need to move one day to pollution-less economies....
" What is circular economy and why does it matter?
And this raises the question: Imagine you are the environment, can a circular pollution production solution/circularity fix the linear pollution production problem/linearity you face?
What do you think? If you think Yes, please indicate why. If you think No, please indicate why no.

This is an academic question, not a political one.
I am trying to find articles describing the incidence of acute mastoiditis, not in the western world but in the developing world - Africa, India and more. can anyone refer me ? thank you
Two hundred years from now, folks will wonder about NASA’s “crude” thrust-tech of 1986 that resulted in the incineration of the Challenger space shuttle orbital vehicle. They’ll surely muse, “Didn’t the Am’ricos know about cold-thrust propulsion? Strange 20thcentury: wars, Communism, famine, pestilence, Africa, and all.”
Please share your suggestions.

Prolonged bed wetting has been continually occurring beyond the age of 7-10years, when most children typically achieve nighttime bladder control.
it is a common issue that affects approximately 10-20% of 10 years olds, 5-10% of 15years olds, and 1-5% of adults in Africa and beyond. Which these health implications in children and adults in Africa has led to;
(a) emotional distress and low self-esteem.
(b) social isolation
(c) skin irritation and infections
(d) sleep disturbances
(e) impact on daily activities and relationships.
The expression "Je t'aime, moi non plus: I love you, neither do I", popularized by the song by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin in 1969, refers to tumultuous and contradictory relationships that can be strong, intense, see passionate, but, at the same time, imbued with uncertainties, doubts, and ambiguities that underlie real difficulties likely to make the relations complex unstable or even unhealthy. So "Je t'aime moi non plus" can somehow be applied to describe the Europe-Africa relations steeped in a common history that is not always brilliant and, in another register, to Europe-USA-ASIA relations where the Ego, the Culture, and the Will to Power sometimes lead to conflicting competitive situations.
It is therefore a very open subject on which I would like us to rub our points of view, ideas, and visions in order to promote serene and useful exchanges.

The geopolitical landscape in Africa is undergoing a significant shift as China and Russia assertively expand their economic, political, and military influence across the continent. This new "Great Game" in Africa represents a departure from the traditional Western dominance, led by the United States, that has defined the region's dynamics for decades.
China's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative and its emphasis on non-interference have resonated with many African nations seeking alternative sources of investment and development assistance. Meanwhile, Russia has been reasserting its presence through arms deals, energy partnerships, and the deployment of private military contractors like the Wagner Group.
In contrast, the United States' influence in Africa is perceived as waning, with accusations of neglect and a transactional approach that prioritizes security concerns over long-term economic and development partnerships. This vacuum has allowed China and Russia to position themselves as more pragmatic and less ideological partners.
The interplay of these competing powers in Africa has profound implications for the region's future, shaping dynamics in areas such as resource exploitation, infrastructure development, security partnerships, and the promotion of democratic values. As the new "Great Game" unfolds, African nations must navigate these complex alliances and rivalries to advance their national interests while maintaining sovereignty and stability.
I am a Ph.D. student from the University of the Virgin Islands and am originally from Cameroon. I am searching for assistance with my dissertation research. My dissertation topic is "Exploring the importance of creative leadership for innovation and sustainable development in Cameroon: A case study of social entrepreneurs in Douala and Kumba."
I am facing difficulties in finding additional papers related to my field of research in Cameroon and other countries, especially in Africa. Does anyone have any recommended readings, resources, researchers who might support my research?

Is sustainable development or social capital essential for Africa's socioeconomic transformation? Despite widespread preaching of sustainable development by institutions like the United Nations and NGOs, tangible progress has been lacking, akin to an overdue pregnancy—quantitative rather than qualitative. Is Africa still in need of this gospel or what it requires now not just sustainable development but robust social capital to achieve lasting socioeconomic transformation. My thinking. What is yours.
I just finished writing an article on cloud computing and healthcare services in Africa. A case study on Ethiopia. How can I publish it on Research Gate?

Example: Africa is a label for a continent. It has no overall leader or rulership, it is devided into countries. But now we are being told Africa is trying to sue Israel. But who is Africa? If "they" win, who gets the reward and how will it be fairly distributed around the continent of Africa? Or will only some people claim to have been successful in taking a country to court, and use it to show off against other African nations? I thought in order for a continent to take a country to courts, it would have to gather the signatures of every leader of each African country? If not, how does it work?
On the other side, there's Israel, the whole country's label. But within Israel are some people doing some things whilst others are not. Why should some people of Isreal get a reputation for genocide when it was just some other people using the Isreal label? How would others do trade and judge them in the future? It's not precise enough.
I don't think it is a legal move for a continent to sue a country and I'm struggling to see how this process is allowed, who personally will gain a reward from this, who will lose what etc?
It seems like an unfair trial with unfair uses of public legal systems both locally and globally. All because of labeling again. Like "them/they" issues.
Can anyone explain this process or direct me to further information I could read?

The amount of wheat being produced by tropical countries including Sub-Sahara Africa is far below the amount being consumed. This situation has caused and is still causing countries in these regions to spend fortunes on the importation of wheat. Right now deliberate actions need to be taken to address it and specific and reasonable research questions need to be asked and relevant answers are needed as well. This is the drive. It is my drive.

Dear network
We are setting up a new research project on animation as an academic field in African countries.
Animation itself represents a multidisciplinary field of study and research that links cinema, development and artificial intelligence, but which is not yet considered as an academic field of study and research, This is why we are asking for your testimony to let us know the state of the situation. the field of the art of animation in African countries: its teaching, its production, its festivals, etc.

What is the commonly known growth factor of Grevillea robusta in Africa? Especially in high-rainfall and semi-arid areas, agroforestry systems
The population density in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa is mounting. As the region battled the increasing population, there are needs to plan for the future generation. The region needs a policy framework to initiate programs that will introduce land -saving technologies. that is my thought.
Although some might have discredited the idea of Pan-Africanism, there seems to be a sense in which it is still a need. Decolonisation as a process is not an end on itself but a step towards the end. To make sense of decolonisation for Africans there needs to be a way in which Africans show pride of their identity (self-love), and Pan-Africanism might be exactly that way. In fact, before Africans talk about globalisation there should a concern as to what do Africans enter the global world with... this discussion will continue in my paper to be presented in this attached conference for which the deadline for abstract submission has been extended to the 8th January 2024

INTERNATIONAL HUMOR
A world-wide telephone survey was conducted and the only question asked was:
"Would you please give your honest opinion about possible solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?”
The survey failed because:
In Eastern Europe there was no agreement on what "honest" meant.
In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
In some places in Africa they didn’t know what "food" meant.
In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
In South America they questioned what "please" meant.
In the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
And in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain . . . everyone hung up when they heard the foreign accent.
Parts of East and Southern Africa, in particular, have experienced severe droughts, leading to water shortages, crop failures, and food insecurity. On the other hand, intense rainfall events have led to flooding in various regions, especially in low-lying areas and regions with poor drainage systems. What are the other threats and how those threats are related to nutrition security?
Dusty roads, pot holes, uneven roads, disorder in road usage, ignoring road signs, traffic lights, uncontrolled hooting, air pollution, growing numbers of motorbikes in cities, high number of road accidents. The list of challenges facing African roads are endless, yet all seems normal.
We want to look up relevant scholarly articles that have been done in many nations in Africa; the study aims to covers the entire continent. In the continent's nations, it is believed that a wide range of investigations have been carried out on the specific topic so far.
In the search engine (like Google Scholar), how could we search to get all the relevant scientific works?
(a) Country "X" + "Keywords" in the search bar? If this is the approach to be followed, we'll start looking for country by country for all African nations. This may take a longer time to search all the relevant articles in the continent.
(b) "Keywords" + "Africa" in the search bar? If we adopt this strategy, the word "Africa" might not appear in the article’s "Title" or "Keywords." Hence, we may miss relevant articles to be included for the metadata development?
(c) Only "Keywords" in the search bar? This strategy brings all studies worldwide. Then, we need to further screen studies which belongs to Africa?
(d) ???
Any suggestion please?
Thanks!
Question related with thesis development.
Political instability, conflicts and absolute ruler are the major reasons for downturn in business and economic activities in Africa; especially in the Horn of Africa. What would be your view?
Looking at the recent trajectory and resurgence of coups in Africa as well as the massive emigration of Africans due to poor standard of living, Nigeria being the most populous is not exempted from these sad tales. It raises the possibility of young military officers who might be dissatisfied with current realities to also take the initiative to follow the path set by their khaki brothers in other neighbouring countries. This seems unlikely as Nigeria has enjoyed uninterrupted democracy since 1999 - about 24 years now. Nevertheless, it could be argued that democracy has not so much favoured Nigerians. Hence, if there's a slightest possibility of military hostile takeover of government, it is worth looking into. Who when, how, why might be worth considering.
Based on the study entitled "Transfusion Services in Tropical Africa: Challenges and Prospects from the Nigerian Perspective'' (2022), conducted by Sagir Gumel Ahmed. A preliminary study in Nigeria revealed that the incidence of clotting in blood bags in northwest Nigeria was quite high at about 3%. What are the root-cause of this high prevalence rate of clotted blood bags in a developing country, particularly Nigeria?

It has been claimed that several tribes in Africa have developed immunity to Microcephaly.
According to my observations, the political class in most African countries appears to be uninterested in development that benefits the public. The majority of development is centred in metropolitan and peri-urban areas, to the detriment of rural communities.
What are your observations, and would you mind sharing them with me?

Reginald Oduor writes the following:
"Prior to the incursion of Western imperialism, a sizeable proportion of the governance models of Africa’s peoples placed a high premium on consensus-building rather than majoritarianism."
Oduor goes on to detail how elections across Africa today continue to stifle democratization in the continent and that's precisely because majoritarianism is used to shut down discussion.
The critical stance toward making a majoritarian decision first instead of last, as often happens in elections, was also struck decades ago by David Beetham. He, too, held the opinion that we should only use a majoritarian decision when all other options to reach a decision have failed.
In short, consensus-building, deliberation, etc., should be what we reach for first when it is time to decide who our representatives will be or when it is time to make any sort of decision.
What do you think? Why should reaching for a majoritarian decision be the last resort and not the first option to be tried?

Professor Bertha Z. Osei-Hwedie (GIMPA, Ghana) and Dr. R Srinivasan (Praghna Centre for Research) propose to bring out an edited book that deals with Africa from contemporary geopolitics, security and societal aspects. The book project aims to present a comprehensive assessment of Africa's challenges in its aspiration to emerge as a global player. The concept note calling for book chapters is annexed.
Original contributions from scholars from within and outside Africa dealings with subjects of interests to the editors is requested. The book is scheduled for publication by end-November 2023.
There have been growing concerns on the advent of social media having an adverse effect on students learning. Students are seen spending more time on social media than their books in most parts of Africa and other parts of the world.
The highly-infectious disease is similar to Ebola, with symptoms including fever, muscle pains, diarrhea, vomiting, and, in some cases, death through extreme blood loss.
Hundreds of people have died from the virus in recent years, almost all in Africa.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), on average, the Marburg virus kills half of the people it infects, with previous outbreaks killing between 24% and 88% of patients.
The virus was first identified in 1967 after 31 people were infected and seven died in simultaneous outbreaks in Marburg and Frankfurt in Germany and Belgrade in Serbia.
The outbreak was traced to African green monkeys imported from Uganda.
But the virus has since been linked to other animals.

We are leaving in an era of mass Migration in any part of the World. Three days ago, many migrants from Africa and Asia have been killed in the South of Italy. The Italian authorities are trying to deal with the responsability of such tragedy. On the other side, it seems that the African Institutions are not able to explain the fact. How an entire Continent could observe its population migrate without trying any solution to stop it. What do you think about this matter? I think that International Co-opertion has the most responsability in this. African States are not able to follow their own Endogenous Development Programs. Thank you for your contributions.
I am panning to collaborate with a colleague who is in a remote part of Africa, where he will collect fish samples for DNA extractions. There is no reliable electric supply and shipping may take months. Is there any suggestions about a preservative that can be used for preservation, which can be stored at room temperature for 3 - 6 months without degrading the DNA.
can we assess/ discuss the roles being played using specific examples.
