You know for example, the couple between ANSYS and FLUENT is very common for Thermal-FSI simulation.
Is there any software for carrying out all process of Thermal-FSI only using one software?
Which software is easier and more user-friendly than other?
For example, I think ABAQUS is very easy and good software for Thermal-CFD simulation, however, what is easier software for Thermal-FSI simulation?
Relevant answer
Hi Haidar,
Yes, Specially in the recent version of this software they add a specific module entitled "FSI". So, right now this is the best. I totally agree with you.
Bur between Ansys CFX and Ansys Fluent, which one is better?
Best,
Seif

I guess that you have 3D solid elements, and since a few years the default is to save only basic results to the result file (displacement, stress). So use the command in the AUI Control/Porthole/Select element results and Add a new filter, and change Strain from No to All.
Another way is to use Control/Porthole/Volume and switch off 'Save only selected results for 2D / 3D solid elements'. That brings back the old default, which saves all results for all types of elements, which then cause larger result files.

I am trying to run a direct FSI simulation at steady state in ADINA. The flow is 3D, laminar and incompressible, while the structure is linearly elastic and incompressible. I have created the mesh. The solid part has 3663 3D solid elements, and 35903 nodes. The fluid part has 28083 3D fluid elements, with a 32256 nodes. However, the solution is not able to even start, and I get the error " No enough memory to continue".
Could you advise, how to solve this problem?
Relevant answer
Answer
that is a small model and there should be no problem to solve it on a standard computer. Perhaps you can specify the memory such as 'adina9.7 -m 20gb solid.dat fluid.dat'? You can also specify the maximum memory using -mm '-mm 75%' uses 75% of RAM. Take 'adina9.7 -help' to check options.

What is the best finite element modeling software packages for modeling non-linear and fracture analysis of CONCRETE? I've had some with ABAQUS standart/explicit, but I would like to learn if there is a better software for non-linear behaviour and fracture mechanics of concrete according to your experiences.
Best regards.

Which two software of ADINA and ABAQUS are better for fluid structure interaction (FSI) simulation?
Relevant answer
Dear Mehdi,
I heard, for example, the power of ABAQUS in mesh generation is better than ADINA. A researcher told me that he had a 3D model and he couldn’t prepare a meshed model of it using ADINA and he had many errors and problems, but he prepares the meshed model of that 3D model very easy using ABAQUS. Do you agree with him?

I have studied the calorific value of branches as well as stem of 20 tropical tree species like Gmelina arborea, Tectona grandis, Adina cordifolia, Dalbergia latifolia, Ficus religiosa, Ficus benghalensis, Melia dubia,Albizia procera, Mitragyna parviflora, Azadirchta indica, Lagerstromea lanceolata, Saraca ashoka, Pongamia pinnata, Mangifera indica Syzygium cumini, Acacia nilotica etc. I have found that in most of the tree species the calorific value of branches are approximately same or slightly more than the stem samples in 45-60 cm girth class..

I'm studying the behavior of piles in different soil profile . when i define pore pressure .
1- the value of pore pressure When using units ( Newton , meter , second , Kilogram ) :
the value = water density * Water Height *9.81
or
the value = water density * Water Height
2- the soil density is effective or Bulk
Relevant answer
Answer
@ Daniela Gutstein , yes you can define pore water pressure in ADINA. First define the load as value ( gamma * height) of water from Model >>> Loading>>Apply then choose pore pressure as a load type then from define tab insert the load value. In 2-D problems , you can define pore pressure values related to linearly depended equation from Geometry>>> Spatial Function>>>Surface and the input is the ratio ( point height/total height) but take care of the u and v coordinate.it should be the the same. In 3-D analysis do it on Volume instead of Surface.

Hello Everyone, I am also facing the problem of TI decaying very fast in my simulation of turbulent flow . I am modeling the flow around 2D square cylinder and used k-e model. I made the model in ADINA and computed the values of k and e based on TI, length scale and mean flow velocity. I don't have the option of entering the turbulent viscosity. So any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Divye Malik
you can put the following steps:
1- the turbulent intensity at the entrance about 0.05 and make a long entrance region, you can read the following papers;
2- make a long entrance region and  you can read the following papers;
3- make the upper and lower boundaries as symmetry.you can read the following papers;

ADINA have options to run either as SMP or on a cluster as DMP. But there is a separate code and licensing for DMP.

Hi again Nour,
I edited an input  file and I upload it here. If you check the commands at the end of the file, and check the values in the .dat file, maybe it will help you. Look at the differences at these cards in the .dat files
C*** CONTACT GROUP 1 CONTACT3
C*** CONTACTPAIRS
(I use kdiff3 to compare files graphically, do that if you can).
I expect 01.dat and 02.dat to have the same result, and 03 to differ because it set the new friction on the contact pair.
If there is something else I can help you with send me a message.

i need a pre-processing app to generate fine mesh which could be imported to ADINA AUI . i have tried FEMAP but it seems to be inappropriate for two-way FSI simulations. I want to know if there is any better method to do so.

You can use any pre-processor that can write NX-Nastran .nas files for the mesh. Femap, NX, Ansa, etc. When you have imported the mesh to AUI, you can set all boundary conditions and solver settings, etc. BR, Kenth

Question

Hi All,
I am trying to simulate deformation of a cell as it moves through a micro-constriction (due to fluid flow) and I was wondering which software is capable of that. I have found a group of papers (mostly from the same group) who have used ADINA Fluid-Structure-Interface to relate transit time of the cell through the constriction to its viscosity and shear modulus. This is exactly what I am looking for but ADINA is not user-friendly, so I was wondering if anyone could suggest me a more straight-forward software.
Thank you for taking the time to help me:)

Answer
Demanding a user-friendly FEA software capable of intensive FSI studies, you just walked into a rather deserted area ! As far as I know, Abaqus is user-friendly and has a pretty rigorous FSI ability however, it suffers from  uncompleted CFD package. Ansys might do a better job in case of CFD but still not as strong as Abaqus in analyzing non conventional precise matters. I personally know a guy from metallurgy discipline who has a strong faith in using multiple stage coupled FEA analysis by means of two different software for each main stage so that he has never looked for FSI capabilities so far and instead stands on his own methods to read the CFD data into a different FEA software powerful in case of solid analysis. Bottom of line, my suggestion for you (if you need to make the job clean and sth to be proud of) search for the best relationship between a powerful CFD and a FEA software packages amongst the possible relations and pick the one you are comfortable with. And please let me know about your choice and keep this post updated.
Good Luck with your interesting topic

I want to know if the Adina software is suitable for solving geotechnical problems (dealing with the excess pore pressure for example)?
Relevant answer
Answer
Adina can carry out basic geotechnical analysis so if you don't look for anything to advanced it should suit. Personally I prefer Plaxis, rocscience software, FLAC or Tochnog. I doubt if Adina can perform a computation considering excess pore pressure.
