I am writing to you today about the educational experiences that Researcher.Life curate for researchers. We are in the process of creating a holistic training course for researchers specifically in Europe and have put together a survey to understand the needs and requirements of researchers better.
The course is meant to be most helpful for early-to-mid career researchers to help with finding work-life balance, emotional and stress management, self-improvement, and enhanced productivity.
It would be great if you could share your inputs and ask fellow researchers who are based in Europe, and who are in your network to fill out the survey, that will really help as well (to get their point of view). The survey should take no more than 3 minutes of your time.

In many universities, notably in North America but most likely around the world, there are five-year reviews of professors throughout the careers. The reviews can take the form of assembling pretty well everything they have done in the previous five-year period, including providing vast documentary evidence of satisfactory (or even outstanding) performance in teaching, research and scholarship, and service (and, if applicable, in administration). This is generally an extremely time-consuming, intense and potentially stressful experience, and, equally, it is not always clear what the value of this exercise is. In addition to the potential for (conscious and unconscious) bias throughout the process as well as a number of forms and sometimes quantitative configurations, there is also the normative consideration of ensuring that full weight of given to the contributions that are presented for review. Although the broader public may not be aware of the working conditions within academia, it is important to note that, generally speaking, there are a number of regular evaluation-points that professors routinely must face, including: annual reviews, tenure and promotion reviews, grant proposals, conference presentations, articles and other publications, sabbaticals, teaching evaluations by students, some positions and committees, research chairs, etc.. My question seeks to understand—if there is already robust, intense, high-stakes, regular and relatively comprehensive evaluation of academic performance—is there (significant) added value to these five-year reviews? I am aware of some universities that have eliminated them, and others that have re-negotiated the requirements, but they do remain for the most part intact. Do they support and cultivate more enhanced engagement and performance? How? Would the time and resources required for this process be better spent in cultivating more enhanced engagement and performance?

Hello researchers,
I am conducting a factor analysis (FA). In this FA there are some items on student performance or achievement in relation to different subjects and skills. Each student has been assessed by their main teacher in relation to their skill level in Danish, math, natural sciences, music, reading etc. on a scale from 1 - 5 (from poor to great).
The reliability is high and there is a high degree of correlation between the items. However, when it comes to naming this factor, I am in doubt. I have named this factor 'academic achievement' initially but would it be more precise to call it 'academic performance' or something else?

For a job, especially at universities we designed a set of criteria. In this the most important one is about number of research papers (publications), impact factor and citation. Generally, a resesrer or a research group add coauthors and made an incompetent person eligible for a particular post. The person, later on destroy everything and a growing research institution/ university go down for a number of years. How we can safeguard our instruments from such things?

First and Second years of 5 year medical degree programs usually involve studying basic sciences like anatomy, physiology and biochemistry and there are no clinical subjects or ward rotations.
It's just an observation that such monotonous routine, absence of possible interactions with patients and hence lack of feeling as a doctor leads to lack of motivation, interest and therefore academic performance of some of the students is also affected.
As soon as the same students enter clinical years, ward rotations become part of the learning process. Interaction with patients has been observed to lead a change in their attitudes towards academics.
It's proposed that clinical rotations to wards will help with motivation and better attitude towards career and studies in first and second year medical students.
Kindly share your insight regarding this.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm currently busy with my master dissertation on the performance of academic spin-offs. I have currently 179 companies in my dataset and I want to measure performance via ROE. However, 33 companies have negative equity which makes it impossible to calculate ROE. Just excluding them out of my dataset seems as a major mistake since those 33 companies aren't performing well. How should I solve this? Should I manually set the ROE of those 33 companies to a huge negative value (f.e. -200%) or how should I cope with this issue?
Thanks in advance!
College students seem under a lot of psychological pressure to boost their academic performance.
However, while some pressure can improve their overall grade, such stress can also trigger psychological disorders that can reach self harm or even suicide.
How can we help them?

Some practices in disciplines within academia and industry have long ago been proven logically, theoretically and philosophically inconsistent. It reached the level of practitioners and academics being labeled with suffering from cognitive dissonance without their knowledge of such suffering due to beliefs that as practitioners and academics their performance is satisfactory.
How can a paradigm shift in a discipline happen among individuals that suffer from cognitive dissonance especially when such individuals are not ready to accept such state despite that the reality proved it true.
Which DEA technique model is suitable for assessing the performance of academic libraries in the field of medical sciences? And why
Dear all,
There are many schools that launch projects to reduce students' misconduct and unethical behaviours (plagiarism, cheating on examinations, bullying...) based on the new insights supplied by behavioral ethics.
However I was wondering whether there are evidences showing that promoting ethical conduct among students is beneficial for them during their scholarship. Basically, I am not aware of any paper showing that promoting an ethical culture (such as fighting against the above behaviours) enhances students' academic performance and their learning efficiency during their scholarship. So basically it might more beneficial to let students behave unethically to enhance their creativity and so their overall academic performance.
HERE IS MY QUESTION:
1) Do you know any study showing that promoting academic integrity among students has a beneficial/detrimental effect on students' academic outcomes and learning efficiency?
2) More broadly, do you know any reference examining the relationship between promoting ethics and students' academic performance or students' learning efficiency?
Thanks in advance
J
