Hard Negative Mining in CNN leading to class imbalance ?
Question
  • Jul 2016
Hi, I am working on deep learning for object detection (binary classification). I read from various sources that it is preferable to have a balanced training data. I was hoping if someone could link me to some papers that substantiate this claim ?
I ask because I am performing hard negative mining to augment my training set of negative samples. This however, will lead to an imbalanced training set as it will result in more negative than positive samples. Is there any way I can alleviate the problem of imbalanced training data ? And is hard negative mining a good idea in CNNs ?

Does anybody have any knowledge/articles on the formation of false memory through dreams, leading to phobia development?
Question
  • Apr 2015
More specifically, I am looking (or trying to look at rather) at how false memories could potentially be formed through dreaming, how phobia related memories can be affected and distorted, and how -if possible- how dreaming plays a factor in memory distortion.
Any help would be appreciated as it's such a specific area, so thanks I know it's a bit broad!

Where is education leading to? Or what if its only concern is for one to be free from ignorance and know what's in the rest of the world?
Question
  • Aug 2013
The goal of education is to educate a person to develop his knowledge, attitudes and skills so he can use it to become a better person, worthy and functional member of the society. The learning outcomes is a balance of three domains of learning such as cognitive, affective and psychomotor (Bloom). But what do we really want to be manifested as an educated person? Intelligence or character, or both? For example, do we expect that our society or the community will be a better place to live in if everybody is educated? What if education is simply a requirement and no longer a necessary tool to change a person?
