I am using fsQCA to analyse the performance of community forest management in tropical forests. As this is a small N research I decided to do both a software and a manual analysis to identify the necesary and sufficient conditions. Both analyses render different results. Luckily, both analysis identify one common important factor that enhances the performance of community forest management but they connect this to different configurations. How do i deal with this? Or is this an error in the analysis? All suggestions are welcome.

I have a dataset (based on a 5-point Likert scale). Following the direct method, I first calibrated it as 4 (fully in), 3 (crossover point), and 2 (fully out), but given that it is skewed to the right, I recalibrated it based on percentiles (20th, 50th, 80th), then (25th, 50th, 75th). However, only the complex and intermediate solutions are shown, while the parsimonious solution is still absent. What might be the reason?
Thank you,

so my survey is a misture of questions.
1)2 questions with yes or no
2) 2 questions with 5 point likert scale
3) 2 questions with yes, no, both
total of 6 questions i need to use in the fsqca software. How to calibrate?

So as I am sure you know fsQCA refers to fuzzy Qualitative Comparative Analysis where instead of using a either/or 0.5 delimitation of either belonging or not belonging to a group in a truth table there is a more sliding scale that gives you also the relative strengths of belonging or not belonging as a way to help deal with complexity. One can set this within the conceptual framing of Emergent theory which is a method used to make sense for example of the movement of flocks of swallows or the group dynamics of people when having to quickly leave a building. Though I am sure you have already explored these avenues I can provide you with some readings if you have not.

Hey,
I am currently writing my Master thesis and I'm conducting an fsQCA using the QCA package in R Studio. In total, I have 9 causal conditions which I all calibrated already. However, I found out that whenever I exceed 7 causal conditions while generating my truth table, I get this error:
`$<-.data.frame`(`*tmp*`, "cases", value = c("", "", "", "", :
replacement has 45 rows, data has 13
First I assumed that my last two variables weren't calibrated properly, however after some investigation I found out that I can combine any 7 out of 9 variables and generate a truth table but once I add an 8th variable, I get this error again. I am wondering if someone could give me some clarification on whether the QCA package is limited to 7 causal conditions or how I can solve this problem?

I have carried out robustness test by adjusting the calibration threshold, and the consistency of some configurations in the test results is slightly lower than 0.75 (such as 0.73/0.72). Can this result be regarded as robust?

Dear all,
I have to apply FsQCA test on my data, I hv few queries in fuzzy set data..
1. Whether we can score during calibration of data matrix to any condition as 1 or it should be less than one.?
2. Whether in fuzzy set data we can score our outcome data column as zero and one, even if we score our conditions between 0 to 1. Or we hv to score outcome column between 0 to 1 values.?
3. Suppose if we hv given outcome as zero and one form to our fuzzy data matrix then while generating truth table whether we hv to use zero column values of outcome cases as set negated and outcome having one value, set tab for outcome is used???
4. While giving consistency threshold in ragin software in truth table formation the dialog Box asks one thing delete rows and codes what does it mean...? I noticed that value one appears by default in that space...but what this one shows there..? And we fix 0.80 consistency and click ok.
I would be thankful for ur kind responses...
Thanks and regards...

1. Could you please help me to get some study materials, links, and video demonstrations?
2. Could you please suggest any books / papers that describes easy steps for beginers?
3. Could you please suggest the best software/tool to use "fsQCA" technique?

The unique coverage scores of the two configurations in my fsQCA are about 0.002 and 0.003. What does this mean? Can I delete these two configurations?
