Has anyone ever observed predation by Agama agama (or any another reptile) on Dorylus ants (driver ants)?
Question
  • Feb 2014
Driver ants are a very impressive component of the African entomofauna. They are noteworthy predators but may also be the prey of a range of organisms, from birds to apes. Although it is well known that reptiles sometimes feed on driver ants, the observation is rarely reported in the literature, and species even more rarely identified. A colleague of mine recently observed the lizard Agama agama taking great delight in eating some Dorylus ants. I am curious to know if someone else has already observed such behaviour. I thank you for your help.

What species of Calotus Agamas are specimens on photos, isn't it dimorphism and can agama change its color?
Question
  • Feb 2016
Dear Herpetologists,
Being in Burma in 2011 in Mandalay City, I found a lot of agamas sitting on trees near the Kings Palace channel. These for my mind are from Genera Calotus, but when using Jacob Hallermann's key from 2000, I saw differences of this species from possible three species known from this part of Burma, as: C. emma, C. mystaceus and C. jerdoni. Moreover, colors of looking the same species males differ seriously. Is that just polymorphism, gender dimorphism or agamas can change its color and what kind is this species?

I'm aware that the Mwanza rock agama (Agama mwanzae) can be found in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania but I was also wondering if it occupied this area with any other sympatric species.
