The question aims on understanding why in common car Head-Up Displays the virtual image seems to be outside the car instead off being on the windscreen.
What effect is responsible for that? Is it the collimation by lenses or mirrors, or is it something different? Also what is the reason for HUDs being so space consuming? What is the benefit of letting the light traveling between multiple mirrors, before finally projecting it on the windscreen?
Any answer is as always much appreciated.
Of course, if further information is needed to understand my question, feel free to ask!
Best Regards
Lukas
