In general programming languages, like java, C# etc. use dichotomic logic.
Perhaps it is not necessary, however three-valued logic can be more expressive and will improve readability. See an example:
Consider a function F(s) returning "true" if "s" is a unicode string or false if it is an ISO-8859 one. If s = "René", then F(s) is true provided that 'é' is codified by means of two bytes, or it is false whenever only one byte denotes 'é'.
By contrast, if all characters in the string s have a code less than 128, then we cannot discern whether it is codified ISO or unicode. In this case, a third truth-value, between true and false, assigned to to F(s) would be more expressive.
I just came across this library of algorithms: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~scandal/nesl/algorithms.html and found the code to be written in NESL, which until then I have never heard of. It turns out, that it is a functional parallel programming language with bindings to MPI. At least that's what the website states (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~scandal/nesl.html).
The newest version of the interpreter/compiler is from 1995 (sic!). I tried to build it and got the interpreter to work. It is based on lisp (SIC!). I did not get the compiler to work though...
Does anyone have experience with this language? Any hints on how to use it on modern hardware/software is appreciated.
I am using nlconst.m for constrained minimization of given function. but when i call nlconst() with some points as inputs arguments, i get error "OPTIONS is undefined". What OPTIONS can be used in this? furthermore, what about other input arguments? whether i have to give each and every arg or can i skip any input args?
There are some references in the literature on how to solve this problem but they all seem to build upon the previous awareness of the actual shape of the pieces.
When I used Matlab mix in order to connect matlab mx function written in c with the cuda runtime, a linking error appear about conflict in static release and dynamic release between the c file and the library. Did anyone solve this?
error LNK2038: mismatch detected for 'RuntimeLibrary': value 'MT_StaticRelease' doesn't match value 'MD_DynamicRelease' in file.obj.
My question is related to the paper "On a time consistency concept in risk averse multistage stochastic programming", published by A.Shapiro in 2009 (Link attached).
I do not understand, why property (A2) leads necessarily to (A1). I understand that in the case of (A2) one can obtain a optimal solution by using backward induction which is time consistent (existence), but I do not understand why every policy of the problem should be time consistent.

I want to solve a group of two-variable inequalities.
Suppose we have more than one (for example 5 of which) two-variable quadratic inequalities in the form below:
where A,B and C are known.
And we have an initial guess for both x and y and also lower and upper bounds for both of them. What is the most accurate solution in MATLAB to find x and y in a way in which all the inequalities hold all together at the same time?
