Have you been curious about the experience of qualitative research participants?
Often when we explore lived experience in qualitative research, participants tell us about some aspects of their life in such a way that they may have never told someone before. When going through such research procedures (like interviews or focused groups) have you been curious about the influence of your designed research procedures on participants' lives? Have you wondered how to do research on the impacts of research participation and the ethical dimensions and issues surrounding such procedures?

Is it possible to analyse narratives "indirectly"?
Question
  • Oct 2019
I am currently working on my ma thesis and I want to analyse if Christians in Iraq are linked to the West via a narrative, constructed by terrorist groups, which possibly causes more persecution of Christians.
I already conducted 19 semi-structured interviews with various people (mainly persecuted Christians, Experts and Politicians in Iraq) asking them about their stories of how they are persecuted, why, by whom and what stories people are telling about Christians and why. I was not able to interview members of terrorist groups due to security issues. My question is how can I analyse the narrative of the terrorist groups "indirectly" from the narratives of the people I interviewed?

Does anyone have a structure outline of a narrative research (dissertation)?
Question
  • Mar 2018
So I have settled for a qualitative narrative methodology for my dissertation. My topic evolves around this female figure who fought her way to be a leader in a male dominant business. I have several questions in regard to conducting a narrative research.
1. In the literature review, do I build the theoretical and conceptual framework around the subject? If so, shouldn't the subject be interviewed first? I know it doesn't work this way (collecting data "interview" in the proposal phase!) Basically, how do you go about writing the lit review?
2. Is there a specific structure for writing a narrative research? Do the narrative constructs differ from other methodologies'? I haven't found narrative dissertations yet, it's not popular.
3. Methodology: is it possible to utilize triangulation in a narrative research? If yes; interview, survey, and .... ???
Thank you.

Is it possible or appropriate to combine Miles&Huberman's interactive model of data analysis and thematic analysis?
Question
  • Aug 2019
Hello.
I am an undergraduate student working on my undergraduate thesis paper which is a narrative inquiry. I have data from questionnaire, observation, and interview. I am aware that there are limited numbers of approach that are deemed suitable for data analysis in narrative research, so I am wondering whether it is possible or appropriate to use Miles&Huberman's interactive model of data analysis along with thematic analysis to analyse the data that I have obtained.
My best regards.

Unstructured Interview Design?
Question
  • Jun 2024
In my qualitative study, I am trying to avoid the traditional belief that types of qualitative research design are just grounded theory, ethnography, phenomenology, case study, historical, and narrative designs. I am of the view that the 'unstructured interviews' I conducted can be mentioned as my research design. However, the key methods undertaken were 'in-depth interviews' and 'focus group discussions. My confusion now is whether the mention of 'unstructured interview design' in the work can cover the two methods.
I will appreciate your contributions. Also, please add references. Thanks.

Hi can you use BNIM interpretation (Biographic Narrative Interpretative Method) for data analysis only and not the interview?
Question
  • Jun 2017
I have already conducted an in-depth interview and am looking for analysis tools to write it up as a case study.  I have come across Biographic Narrative Interpretative Method (BNIM) as an analysis tool but am aware it also comes with a specific type of interview process. So I was wondering if I could only use the analysis stage of BNIM. Also my thesis is phenomenology in nature, therefore is using BNIM a suitable analysis tool for this particular study?
