How different might our infrastructures look had we known all that we know now when we began to construct them?
Question
  • Nov 2012
The particular technological challenge I want to discuss with this question is the distribution of a novel energy carrier via extant water distribution systems. Potential energy carriers include ultra-high-capacity solid materials (e.g. complex metal hydrides, metal organic frameworks), carbon materials (e.g. activated carbon, carbon nanotubes), natural or synthetic adsorbers (e.g. zeolites, porous polymers), hydrogen encapsulation in water, or a solid substrate hydrogen carrier. So my ultimate aim is not to address or advocate for any particular feasible solution, but to make a contribution to shaping a future infrastructure system which is environmentally friendly, sustainable, multi-functional, manageable and flexible. It aims to encourage scientific community to consider this radically alternative approach.
What do you think about this radical conception of a combined household energy and water delivery infrastructure which might be made possible by emerging technological developments and advances that have yet to become reality.

How widely accepted and established is the field of 'infrastructure studies'?
Question
  • Jan 2014
In my research I have noted numerous references to 'infrastructure studies' and also the existence of significant multidisciplinary research centres and institutes globally (which are both attached to universities and stand alone organisations). However I have not yet found any kind of statement that outlines broadly the space of 'infrastructure studies' or positions it. I am curious to know if this is a field that is emerging, acknowledged or established among researchers and academic institutions. Where would it be positioned in a scholarship, interdisciplinary or knowledge regime or epistemology?

Which renewable energy technologies are compatible to each other toward energy production?
Question
  • May 2019
Dear friends and colleagues,
Are you aware of existing or developing infrastructure works, under which two or more renewable energy technologies are coordinated towards the co-generation of green power energy wordlwide? In general, which renewable-based technologies could be ideally/technically combined to each other towards energy production? Which is the typical output rated power, the advancements, and the technological shortcomings of such large-scale infrastructure works? What about the socio-economic impact concerned?
Thank you for your reply.

Is Landlockedness of Central Eurasia an advantage/disadvantage for developing countries like India? (with reference to energy trade)?
Question
  • May 2018
It is believed that due to lack of direct access to the sea, landlocked countries are mainly marginalized from major trade related networks and hardly benefit from trade opportunities due to their extreme reliance on their transit neighbors who may either have a weak or well-developed infrastructure. Besides this common perception what are other advantages and possibly disadvantages are there for landlockedness?
