In modern day and technology, would polymath learning be more useful to develop at university than mastery learning?
Question
  • May 2018
Polymath or Generalist learning is when the individual has knowledge of multiple fields, in contrast with Mastery or Specialist learning which consists on being able to domain a single field of knowledge.
The idea behind the questions argues that in modern day with the fast development of technology, the need for specalists will progressively decrease causing the current teaching philosophy in higher education, to teach a single career for the student to excel in a determined field, to become obsolete and unsustainable. Instead, a polymath learning approach would encourage diversity in the students skills allowing for it to innovate various fields of knowledge and being able to participate in more than a single specialised career.
  • How do you believe the inclusion of this learning approach affect the profesional development of the student?
  • What benefits or disadvantages would this inclusion bring?
  • Do you have any experience with this approach at higher education? what were the outcomes?
Thank you vary much for you contributions.

If you are forces to transition a face-to-face class to online, how will you use theory to create your new learning environment?
Question
  • Mar 2020
Many teacher are faced with the challenge to quickly transition an in-person class to online delivery for the rest of this semester.
Based on my research and experience, I prepared this podcast for my school today, with advice for teachers as they make decisions about how to restructure their classes. While it is geared mostly to my campus you may be interested in the ideas about evaluating and making use of the different learning tools that are available.

I think that it is important to remember to ground our redesign in theory, even though we need to do it quickly.
I am interested in your feedback and other thoughts (and you will be able to hear my voice).

What changes in education policy related to technology do you think are necessary to fully embrace its potential for learning?
Question
  • Oct 2015
In the US at least - we are somewhat hampered by policy related mandates on what should be taught and how it should be taught and assessed. This inhibits the integration of technology for many of the high impact practices that theory would lead us to believe will make a large difference in student learning. What changes do you think need to be put in place to change the current architecture in such a way to afford better technology-mediated/integrated learning? I would love to hear not just about changes to US policy - but also policies that other countries have put in place that are making a difference with respect to the use of technology in the classroom.

What is your opinion about the advantages and disadvantages of Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI)?
Question
  • May 2014
Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) involves the use of radio to bring curriculum and teacher training to classrooms in some of the most underserved areas globally. It is a cost-effective and widely available medium that has helped rebuild and revitalize education programs in some of the least developed countries
IRI episodes guide learners through the learning process by means of a progression of activities related to measurable learning objectives.
Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) is encompased under the more general term Interactive Audio Instruction (IAI), as evolving technology has allowed different forms of delivering these audio programs including CD players and MP3 players.

Is it time to explore a more integrated primary and secondary school science curriculum in the Caribbean?
Question
  • Dec 2013
Science curricula is still largely being implemented in the traditional 'chalk and talk' way. The actual curricula focuses on inquiry-based strategies which, therefore, is what is taught in teachers' college science education curricula. Lip service has been given to integrating science with technology. A more relevant science curriculum could theoretically be implemented by integrating science with not only technology, but other subject areas such as mathematics, social studies and engineering.
