why is that NIR of landsat 8 good for studies water clarity in coastal?
Question
  • Apr 2018
Currently, I'm doing a project regarding Remote Sensing and Water clarity. I have data of secchi disk the same day with satellite data from Landsat 8. I am trying to see the correlation between two data sets. The result show The higher R-square or the best correlation is Reflectance from Near Infrared(B5) vs Secchi Depth compare to another band. Do you guys know why is that NIR good? Most research are using Aerosol(B1) or another band for water clarity studies in coastal water.

Can any one give clarity in the pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines?
Question
  • Nov 2015
I am in a big confusion about the pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines. One of my colleagues screened various probiotic bacteria on cytokine profile and based on these they are classifying their bacteria into good and bad for anti-inflammatory studies. Is this the correct way to screen? When I read literature there is lot of contradiction to decide the cytokine is inflammatory and anti-inflammatory. So, I request you all to help me in this regard. Thanks for your concern in-advance.

Why does the clarity of papers vary so much from field to field?
Question
  • Jan 2013
I'm not picking on the paper linked but I'd like to highlight the contrast between the abstract and the "author's summary". Having finished the abstract, I was left thinking this might be interesting. It's somewhat out of my field but I'm trying to learn more about epigenetics. Having read the "author's summary", I was suddenly going "wow. Fascinating".
I've had the pleasure of operating in quite diverse fields so far so I feel I have delved enough to comment. An early dalliance with paleontology (early bird flight) was full of colourful and entertaining papers and books. The concepts were no less complicated but the communication was effervescent. Conversely, genetics papers tend to be almost consciously arcane and plodding. I'd be happy to excuse this as reflective of the complexity of the field but, in time spent working on lab on chip diagnostics, I read widely in engineering areas such as microfluidics, chip design and fabrication, electronics etc. Despite being highly technical, the papers were shorter, simple to follow and, to bring me to my core point, facilitated a generalist jumping from papers in one field to another.
Increasingly, it seems to me that genetics papers are written for a narrower and narrower audience. Despite the relevance to all areas of biology, these papers are not widely read by non-geneticists and it is difficult to criticise them unduly for not doing so. Is peer review in genetics so demanding that it mitigates against drafting papers which might be suitable for the uninitiated? Will this trend worsen as bioinformatics comes more and more to the fore?

What steps can one follow to improve the clarity of Landsat imagery for Analysis?
Question
  • Sep 2018
I am interested to conduct a land cover assessment of a wetland using Landsat images. I have downloaded level 1 Landsat 8 GeoTiff. This imagery is about 1 GB, but when I load it in ArcMap, the image appears not to be clear. As in the snapshot attached, at the scale of 1:6309 the image is not even clear despite being a heavy file. Can any one who has worked with similar imagery before help me to understand what is supposed to be done so that I should move to my analyses. Thanks in advance..

Has anyone tried the new CLARITY technique out of the Deisseroth lab in Stanford?
Question
  • Apr 2013
We are about to get the necessary materials to do CLARITY with rat brains, and wonder if anyone else here has given it a shot. I figured this might be a good place to share any pitfalls we might come across, etc. I don't anticipate any problems at the moment, as the protocol is very clear and detailed. Very excited to be trying CLARITY out.
Here is a link to the CLARITY protocol: http://clarityresourcecenter.org/

Can I apply clarity to make relative quantification on protein expression level?
Question
  • Jan 2016
I have been thinking about using Clarity to compare the expression of specific protein before and after addictive drug treatment, to kind of visualizing aberrant plasticity at molecular level. But wondering if the resolution of Clarity would be good enough for this purpose, since the abnormal circuits are the primary reports from the Clarity methodology.

Can anyone give clarity on use of Evapotranspiration data sets as a input in MODFLOW modelling?
Question
  • Feb 2018
Hi Everyone,
I want to use  evapotranspiration data sets in my MODFLOW setup. I am having actual evapotranspiration (AET) datasets. But, I  am not sure of using  directly these AET datasets  as a input in my model.
As per my understanding, MODFLOW needs only evapotranspiration through soil root zones. But, If I use AET, it includes evaporation from soil, water and transpiration from vegetation. I think I should not use this AET. Maybe I am wrong also. If I should not use AET, what evapotranspiration value I should use in my model. I request you to kindly help me in understanding this concept in a better way. It will be a great help. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Satish
