Major burn: continuity of care improves the outcome?
Question
  • Nov 2012
Hi, I'm a registered nurse and I'm doing a master in person in critical condition - major burn.
Working at a prehospital mobile medical team and emergency department of a trauma center and burn center in Lisbon, Portugal and would like to know if anyone has literature on the importance of continuity of care from the scene of the incident to burn unit. Is there any study that confirms gaps in treatment / care of these patients from the crash site until the burn unit through the emergency room?

Would you let a British Burn RD visit your Burn facility?
Question
  • Oct 2015
I have been awarded a travel fellowship to the United States to look at what nutritional care is being delivered to patients with wounds (burns to pressure ulcers), with the aim of enhancing care back in Britain. Particular areas of interest are; use of steroids, estimating nutritional requirements, feed/products used to meet nutritional needs, protocols in place e.g. bowel, emergency feeding regimes and trace element/glutamine supplementation.
I am currently in Tennessee but have flexibility in my itinerary to visit hospitals and practitioners who would be willing to let me shadow their burn/wound dietitian for 2-3 days.
Other places I have on my itinerary are;
San Francisco October 26th-14th Nov
Texas (Galveston) 23-25 November and Houston 25th-29th November
New Orleans 30th-4th December
Orlando 5-12th December
Open week before flying home out of Orlando on 19th December.
Please get in touch if you would be interested in working together. I hope to put forward my findings to the next British Burns Association and American Burns Association Conference for 2017.
